Thank you so much 😊 we have a rule in our house that you always have to try the meal and if you don’t like it you can either modify it or find something else in the kitchen to eat. There’s almost always leftovers or things to make a sandwich or cereal.
From Corrie Cooks: If you look at your Instant Pot pressure cooker, you’ll see there also are three settings: Less, Normal, and More. So, the logical conclusion is that, if you want the best results, you should set the pot on Less, the equivalent of Low in your old slow cooker, right? Wrong! The Less setting only gets the temperature up to 190 degrees Fahrenheit which is too low for cooking food regardless of the time length. Slow cooker setting + Less - Cook at low heat. Reach 190 °F only. Slow cooker setting + Normal - Cook medium heat. Similar to the "Low" setting on the slow cooker. Reach 195-205 °F Slow cooker setting +More - Cook at high heat, similar to the "High" setting on the slow cooker. Reach 200-210 °F. So you can ignore the "less" setting and use only "normal" or "more" modes. If you are using the slow cooker function + normal (=low temperature in a regular slow cooker): Cooking time stays the same. If you are using the slow cooker function + more (=high temperature in a classic slow cooker): Add 15 minutes for every hour on the original recipe. So for example: 1 hour on slow cooker = 1:15 hour on Instant Pot 4 hours on slow cooker= 5 hours on Instant Pot 8 hours on slow cooker= 10 hours on Instant Pot
I know you're probably done with slow cooking, but you may want to pick up a second-hand crock pot for stuff like this instead. I love my crock pot for when my planned meal requires the instant pot for 2 different things and I want to keep the first thing warm while the other cooks. It's great for get-togethers, too.
Agreed. I've never used my instant pot for the slow cooker feature, but it seems to work differently than a regular slow cooker. Thrift stores are full of them in good condition. They are great for beans. Even when I ate meat, I used my slow cooker mainly for beans.
I just discovered you and REALLY enjoying your channel and looking forward to more fun with your cooking videos and book reviews. I just want to say the pressure cooker cooks differently than a slow cooker. Pressure cooker is cooking by steam, slow cooker dry heat. I love my pressure cooker but the slow cooker offers it's benefits. For one you can put everything together earlier in the day and not have to fuss in the evening. This is helpful for those with busy evenings. The IP slow cooker has a thinner wall which doesn't distribute the heat the same and thus the burning. If you are cooking for a party, you can take the whole slow cooker and keep food warm at the event. Finally, the slow cooker teaches us patience and gives a sense of anticipation. Both are wonderful tools but this year I want to really use my slow cooker more.
Try some slow cooker recipes again in the winter. Dump everything in and come in from the cold at the end of the day with the house smelling yummy. Some nice beany soups/stews. 🙂
Soups and stews in a slow cooker are amazing. The flavors are so much more developed than with any other cooking method without having to tend to a stove top all day.
I have a regular slow cooker. What I like is that I can cook overnight and pack a hot lunch for work in the morning. I can also start it in the morning. Then I come home, the house smells like I’ve been cooking all day, and dinner is ready. I have even used it to make bread. The catch is that I have to brown the top in the oven, not a big deal.
My experience has been the Instant pot doesn’t work well as a slow cooker. It doesn’t get hot enough. I would love to have the first Hester recipe you made in the 1/2 version
@@pbwithjeremy I’m vegan and I have a slow cooker to prepare soups. There are a lot of plant-based UA-camrs with slow cooker recipes. Using the slow cooker is best for soups because it allows the flavors to mingle better over the longer cooking time. I have an Instant Pot also, and I’ve made various soups in it. And there are various “Soup Makers” on Amazon that claim to make delicious soup in under 20 minutes. But soup taste better when prepared in a slow cooker. That’s the best reason for a vegan to purchase a slow cooker. 50 years ago, my mom purchased a slow cooker to prepare roast beef, etc. But these days, a slow cooker can be a vegan’s best friend. 😃
I'm going to try the chickpea cacciatore. I'm never used a slow cooker function on the pressure cooker so I'll give that a try. Have to use up all these extra tomatoes I have.
Really enjoying yr channel. Thank you. I especially enjoy you cooking out of a cookbook for a week for your family and sharing the results. What cookbooks do you rely on? What did you start with on your WFPB lifestyle?
Slowly and we eased in. I mostly started by modifying our old recipes. But I used the Bad Manners books a lot - Deliciously Ella and a few others. You?
As you discovered, the IP is not a slow cooker, even in slow cooker mode. The IP’s heating element is in the bottom, while the Crock Pot’s is around the sides.
I agree with others I think a proper slow cooker would work. Kathy Hester does instant pot recipes so I guess this book is for people who don't have an instant pot. I have 3 slow cookers(I inherited them, wish it had been a house or ton of money😂) great for meat which I don't eat anymore & uses very little electricity which is super expensive here in Ireland, well everything is expensive here. Love your show
I occasionally use my Instant pot as a slow cooker. The trick is that on slow cook, low is equivalent to “keep warm”. If you want to cook at the equivalent of a slow cooker low, you need to set it to medium
I agree about getting a real slow cooker. It heats from inside the walls, not just the bottom like in a pressure cooker on slow cooker setting. The recipes that I've tried in both always turn out better in a true slow cooker.
that looks good, usually I use date sugar for my oats with banana ,apple, frozen cherries, blueberries plus pure vanilla with home made nut milk and some sprinkled crushed walnuts, cinnamon on top.....thanks for sharing.
I do not like warm fruit. Never have. Once met a Berry Cobbler I didn't hate but overall, no thanks. Maybe grilled pineapple. I'm not sure why that's different. I love your videos. I've been watching a lot as I'm preparing to switch from vegetarian to vegan and I've learned a lot. I appreciate your gluten free switches and honest reviews of those switches as gluten is a trigger for an autoimmune disease I have been struggling with.
Kathy Hester commented when I posted your video to her Facebook group that she does NOT recommend using the slow cooker function on the IP except for already cooked beans in soups and stews.
For the slow cooker cobbler, use a prepared white or yellow vegan cake mix. Mix it with melted vegan butter and then sprinkle on top of the sweetened fruit.
Love your family's reactions to your cooking. I bought a couple of Hester's books a while ago. I wasn't that impressed by her recipes. Also, all her recipes have oil, which I know can be swapped out, but I much prefer to stick with recipe books that just leave it out. Interesting choices you picked.

Hi Jeremy, a cookbook I really like is Plant Based Cooking Made Easy by Jill & Jeffrey Dalton. They have a show on UA-cam. 2 recipes from this book that are sooo good are the Frosty Shake ( I increased the cacao powder to 1.5-2 tablespoons and the dates to 2 dates) and the Coffee Smoothie (perfect the way it is). The carrot cake looks so good. I’m going to make it soon because my husband loves that. I also like Cathy Fishers book, Straight Up Food and her recipes on her website. I made her cauliflower soup all the time! So warming. ☺️ Thanks!
Thanks! Both of those books are on my list already, so thanks for the additional recommendation! Thanks for the shout-outs to those recipes too - I'll flag them for sure :)
I got rid of my slow cooker when I bought an instant pot. I figured I rarely used it since going vegan, and the instant pot was supposed to have the same function. I have tried it a few times, but my food never seems to cook, so I end up just using the pressure setting after.
The slow cooker is great for dahls, oats, curries, baked beans, and some soups. It's good for people like me who have not invested in a slow cooker yet...lol. the trick is to make sure that the pot is at least 1/2 full otherwise it makes a mess.
Do you mean people who haven't invested in an instant pot? Or pressure cooker. I highly recommend. I have a video I'm working on right now dedicated solely to the IP :)
In my experience, the one big failure for the instant pot is that it makes a terrible slow cooker... before I transititioned to WFPB, I let a beef stew "cook" for a number of hours and it was barely warm, in a propper slow cooker it would have reached simmering.
I dusted off my Thug Kitchen cookbook this week. They changed their name to Bad Manners a few years ago, but they are vegan and have some good stuff. :) And have some colorful language to keep things interesting.
It’s one of my all time favs those books. And then have a new one this fall. I’ll review the new one for sure but I’ll try to dive back into one of the older ones before that.
I think this video has taught me I don't need to bother with the instant pot slow cooker function( I probably wasn't going to use it, haven't since bought it)

I think you should borrow one and make them again, or try some more recipes! She's such a nice lady, why not!? And i like canned trashy mushrooms 😂😂😂 🍄 PS crockpots are cheap
I know they're cheap - but I would never use it if I'm honest. And if I only have room for one more device before my wife kills me it's going to likely be a creami :)
"f*ck sh*t *f*ck"- you sound like me in the kitchen 🤣 fwiw - slow cookers and the slow cook function don't match. as i guess you already figured out. my kids managed to kill (seriously- we went through 3 in two weeks) our instant pots- but the slow cooker is still with us- after 7 years -s o yeah - maybe i'll give this cookbook a go.
It's not fair to test a slow cooker cookbook without a slow cooker. The Instant Pot slow cooker function does not work nearly as well as a real slow cooker. Also, the original version of that cookbook was published in 2011, before electric pressure cookers were big. I really enjoy these cookbook videos that you make, but I want to be fair to the cookbook authors as well.
This is a good point. I did try to put the blame on myself that I needed to figure out how to adjust it. Once I got the temperature down I had a lot more success. I hope it didn’t seem like I was blaming the author. I think it’s also worth noting though that most people who are plant based don’t own slow cookers so they would also likely be using an instant pot. Thanks for this. And for watching!
I was going to say the same thing. I have the original book as well, and it was definitely written for a traditional slow cooker. It’s also not fair to say that you could make the dish in 30 minutes in an instant pot when the instant pot had just been invented at that point. Kathy Hester is such a delightful person and she does a lot to show ways to modify her recipes. Try watching one if her videos.
I know I’m coming late to the party by commenting on this, but you made the biggest mistake is by cooking this in the instant pot. The instant pot has a slow cooker setting but it’s trash and it doesn’t really work. If you would put this in a real slow cooker and cooked everything your experience would’ve been much better and everything would’ve came out just fine because an actual slow cooker uses the condensation and the steam to cook your food better where is the instant pot doesn’t really do that on the slow cooker setting for some reason. Everybody who’s ever use the slow cooker button on the instant pot ends up regretting it because it doesn’t cook right or it burns everything. I would say redo the cookbook, but do it with an actual real slow cooker and you’ll be surprised how much different it will turn out.
I like watching your show and your family. I have been plant-based for 20 years. I do agree with whoever said that y’all eat with your mouth open. But what I don’t like is the cussing, the F word and especially GD.
I would like to see your fruit recipe. Not impressed with slow cooker one. Please do review of Jill Dalton's cookbook. She is tge first vegan I started watching on UA-cam. I love her. (Ann, please don't talk with mouth full of food. Thank yoy!)
Hey Patty - you might notice that this video is from over a year ago. There's no foul language in our current videos and hasn't been in some time. Apologies if it offended.

#piepeople here, I feel you!
Yaaaaas. Pie people for the win!
Yup - I think I sorted it out by the end, but it's a different beast. Thanks!!!
How do you kill an instant pot? Wow! Those are some talented kiddos.
Well, mine wouldn't even have tried to cook for himself though, so...
@@1auntievenom hahaha
You need a real crockpot! The heat is more evenly distributed and the lids allow some steam to escape.
I'd never use it - but thanks!
I’ve never understood slow cooking for hours 😂 I prefer pressure cooking , fast as possible.
Me too!!
A slow cooker is for when you want to dump it in and leave and come home to it being ready. You don't want it ready in 30 minutes.
True that.
She’s Sally The Sourdough 😅
Love it!
Lol...your funny, now I know where your girl gets it.
Ha. Thanks! She's a real firecracker :)
Cute kids, girl too funny.
Thanks!!!
The IP slow cook setting isn’t ideal…..I have slow cookers in different sizes and Kathy’s recipes come out perfect in a real slow cooker….
Gotcha - thanks!
nice ear on that sourdough
Awwww. Thanks! #breadnerds
I prefer a slow cooker instead of pressure cooker
*looks at you with suspicion*
What do you make in it?......
I like watching your show and your family. I have been plant-based for 20 years. I do agree with whoever said that y’all eat with your mouth open. But what I don’t like is the cussing, the F word and especially GD.
The new videos don't having any swears and we're working on closing our mouths while talking :) thx for watching!
@@pbwithjeremy Thanks. God bless.
I would like to see your fruit recipe. Not impressed with slow cooker one. Please do review of Jill Dalton's cookbook. She is tge first vegan I started watching on UA-cam. I love her.
(Ann, please don't talk with mouth full of food. Thank yoy!)
I’m noticing how many gloppy stewy type foods we vegans eat.
We are a sloppy people. And they're often sooooo good :)
Can we control the language?
We do in all the more recent videos!
Not a fair review. Invest $30 in a slow cooker and learn to use it before attempting to review a slow cooker cookbook! 😊
Thanks for your opinion.
Why the fowl language especially the gd & fu?will stop watching if continues.
Hey Patty - you might notice that this video is from over a year ago. There's no foul language in our current videos and hasn't been in some time. Apologies if it offended.
I would rather be called a woman than a person. That sounds so impersonal and distant.
THanks for your feedback, I think it's a personal thing for everyone.
Bad manners or unbelievably vegan
Thanks for these Unbelievably will be on the list for SURE - and I've been meaning to do Bad Manners but we've cooked from their books a lot so I might just do the new one coming out next month.
Do you really need to use bad words to cook. Umghhh no bueno
It helps with the flavor!! :) but the newer videos don’t have swearing
