I listened to this song as an outcast child, as a troubled teenager and as an adult down on their luck. It got me through near - homelessness, multiple jobs that I either quit or got fired from. I knew one day I would find somewhere I belong. I have finally found it and have never been happier. To anyone who listens to this and feels like they are an outcast or unable to find the place they belong... Go the distance. One day, you will find where you belong.

Hercules isn't singing about how he'll do whatever it takes to become a god. He didn't even know his father was Zues or that he was a god when he sung this. This song is about him being called a freak and that he just wants to be accepted because of his strength...
This song is for all of us. When Hercules was a young man he didn’t know the great hero he would become. He felt like a lot of young people do. Unsure of the future. Wanting to be liked and accepted by his peers. This sentiment rings out like the Liberty Bell in this country. America has always championed the underdog. We are all about the struggle to overcome the adversity of daily life. We are not called the land of opportunity for nothing. Individual initiative and determination count for something. Hercules had both of those. He suffered a lot on his way to being the legend that’s still remembered to this day. No matter how many times you hear the words of this song, it reminds you everyday to keep trying to make things better for yourself and others . Make something heartfelt last in influence when your remembered.
DAMN IT DISNEY! I don't have time for childhood nostalgia! I have stuff to do, deadlines to meet! Crap, I'm already sucked in. Oh look, "Colors of the Wind". (clicks on video)
tf u talkin about? You mean you can't relate to all of the other songs about deceiving lost souls and performing voodoo magic to curse foreign princes?
***** The thing is. All songs, specially Disney's songs, recall your childhood and those happy moments spend watching those movies. Since the sound it's almost the same, or at least similar, all Menken's songs makes you think of those moments when me and other guys were kids. Let it go it's a wonderful song made in modern way. As a composer and musician I have to say that Disney HAD to make this breakthrough and take its music to these years. Even though some of us, grown up kids (I'm 27) may still think that Disney changed too much its style.
This was sung by my high school senior choir during our graduation ceremony. Really was a great song to send us all out into the real world! Nobody is EVER too old for Disney songs!
my personal favorite disney movie, because of how much i could relate to hercules feeling like a worthless outcast but keeping hope that i can be great one day
Phantom-Oblivion I have felt like an outcast and right now feeling like I’m Worthless because I’m trying to break into the healthcare field and I sometimes get looked down upon because I’m a career changer.
All my life, I felt like an outcast due to my autism and been called a nobody by many people. I want to be a musical artist and composer and music teacher, but I feel like even because of my autism, I feel like I don't belong anywhere and that no one would like my songs.
I remember this one time my dad came home crying and just locked himself in his room... his mum had just died... my grandma.. ofc I cried too... my dad saw me crying and told me that I should man up. he wiped his own tears so that he could stop mine. this song forever represents my dad's love for me and the message he was trying to portray to me...
2:47 is also the final fanfare from Hellfire in Hunchback. Under the Sea and I Just Can't Wait to Be King also made use of an arpeggiated major I chord. Disney recycles music in the best ways possible.
I always get emotional and teary eyed when listening to this. But listening to this now...where i am currently packing up everything i own in secret so that i can get out of this toxic and abusive place just kind of made the realization that this is happening. In less than a week i will be living in my car because i have no where else to go. I have reached new staged in my mental and spiritual growth i never thought id reach. Im tired of feeling like im trapped in a cage by my abusers. But by god am i scared to tell my brother that i live with that i am moving out and then my mum because she trys to do her stupid devil advocate. I dont need to clinic up for this. Just support. If it wasnt for my step dad...i would have stopped talking to her a whole lot more. Ill get to my happiness. My original dream i wanted as a kid that everyone made fun of me for. Ill get there. Ill get thru this just like i always do. Because at least this time, my fear is my battle armour instead of a weight and my happiness is my sword.
Whenever I need inspiration, or feeling really discouraged by homework, school, or even life itself, I always listen to this song. It's so inspiring and uplifting!
I remember years ago my father was poor and we couldn't afford alot of things. This movie is one of the only ones we owned and it to this day holds a special place in my heart and the music will always have a special place in my heart.
This hits hard after suffering from a mental illness for the last two years. I can’t even remember how great life was before it happened. May we all find our inner strength to carry on, and go the distance 😊
As someone who pretty much was given the back by all my family except my parents, being always an outcast among my owns and then moving away from my country to follow my dreams this song hits me every time.
I was an outcast even to my own parents, especially after I came out as bisexual. I came into my own while I lived in Vietnam. After that though I was even more alienated from my family because they disliked me making them look unaccomplished or inferior. It got even worse after I published my first novel and I was accomplishing dreams my father could only fathom. Of course as I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to accept my place in my family and take pride in it. Who else will love me if I don’t?
Honestly, this song is what I listen to whenever I feel like life is hopeless. Whenever I feel down, I come here to remind myself that no matter how hard it gets, I can go the distance.
I can make it to be a soldier. I won't let my allergies and mental issues stop me. I can reach my dream and carry on the family tradition. I can go the distance!
I just turned 14 and I saw Hercules for the first time on Saturday and I loved it. You never grow out of disney. If you do, u probably didn't have a childhood . And I'm sorry about your cat! I hope u find him/her.
Ah, Disney. You makes wonderful songs that can break my heart, warm my heart, and songs that just make me happy I watched (and continue to watch) Disney.
I have often dreamed, of a cleahean room. Where a great warm bed would be waiting for me, where my mom would cheer when she sees my room and her voice keeps saying this is how clean i'm meant to be! I will find my broooom, so i can clean my rooom! I'll do this everydaaay, if i can be STRONG! I know every sweep will be worth my mom's smile, i would clean almost everywhere to feel like i could sleep all night looooooong!! I can CLEAN MY ROOM, I CAN SWEEP AWAY THE FILTH! I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH, SOMEHOW I'LL BE STRONG. I know every sweep, will be worth my mom's smile. I would clean almost everywhere to feel like i can sleep all night loooooong!
My grandma was my everything... my whole world for the first 10 years of my life that i got to know her.. our thing was watching disney movkes. This song has pulled me through so much. I often listen to it when at a crossroads in life, feeling outcast or unwanted, but I have to remember that “I know every mile will be worth my while” so for those of you feeling like you can’t take one more step, YOU CAN!! ❤❤❤
This piece of art inspires me to follow my dream of becoming a Firefighter. To serve the community and to give hope to the people among my society that human kind is caring.
This is one of the 3 songs from Disney that best tell my story. Along with Son of Man and I'm still here. I have autism and depression, so I had trouble with social interactions as well as having mental struggles. I had to have therapy sessions at school, an office, and even at home. I always had trouble with speaking, being told what to do, control my feelings, the list goes on. The school I went to was for special needs kids, and I've been there since 1st grade to what is now my senior year. I have really grown up compared with myself from even a year ago. Disney has always been a favorite thing of mine, they own my childhood, always made me happy, and they practically even raised me. I have my morals, a strong conscience, and all in all, I 'm generally a good person. Or at least I try to be. There is still much for me to learn. In my life, I have 2 dreams. 1, to make movies for Disney. And 2, to meet someone who would I hope to be my wife. I never really had a girlfriend. And I've always wanted to belong in a relationship. In short, I just want to be loved by the people around me. Including that significant other. That's me in a nutshell.
You can sing this song if you feel stuck in life and know there's something out there for you to thrive for this mythical happiness everyone talks about.
I’m 28 years old and after several years of teaching, I have come to realize that my calling is medicine. I’m applying to UC Berkeley’s post-baccalaureate pre-health professions to get the needed pre-reqs for med school. This program will be the first step to a long road. I am very passionate about medicine, not just my specialty of interest (ENT), but also providing compassionate and empathetic care - two attributes that many doctors lack. Even though I’m a strong student, I’m not the strongest test taker and being a non-traditional student, I fear med schools will reject me for not being the typical science major straight from undergrad with top MCAT scores. This song reminds me that anything is possible with hard work and determination and my dream is not out of reach.
As a grown man, I'm PROUD to say I know all the lyrics to my favorite disney songs. They truly were real magic and reminds me of good times when life gets dicey. To all my disney song lovers here, much love

I've always said that if anyone ever sang this song on American Idol, I'd vote for them like crazy. I
I get so much courage and determination from this song
I bawl my eyes out everytime I listen to this song. It’s so inspirational, damn Disney why don’t you make em like this anymore
That’s beautiful! Hope you’re still doing well 6 years later
That moment when the old Disney songs is still better than "Let It Go"
lol ikr 😅
Always will be.
I think every early Disney song beats Frozen. Even Tarzans. Cause you'll be in my heart! :D
*High five*
All old Disney songs are better than let it go.
Okay, please tell me I am not the only who sings this song longing to part of a fictional world?
No i do it too
+Hannah I would like to live in Zootopia... and not just because of the sexy bunny. I always thought of myself being a raccoon, not human.
Me all the time
You can sing this song if you feel stuck in life and know there's something out there for you to thrive for this mythical happiness everyone talks about.
That's deep
this song comes in handy when you are stuck in a rut....and when you feel down. lol. best song in my opinion
lonny grice agree!
Did you make it to med school in the end?
As a grown man, I'm PROUD to say I know all the lyrics to my favorite disney songs. They truly were real magic and reminds me of good times when life gets dicey. To all my disney song lovers here, much love
