Context is only 6 marks. If context helps ur explanation, it will improve you beyond 6 marks, but you don't need to know all the context in the world to get decent marks.
Context could be a different by up to 2 grades

how could you introduce freud in texts like romeo anf juliet or a christmas carol as they were written before freuds time?
I'd have to disagree with the other reply to some extent. Freud is a theory that describes people regardless of when they existed. It's a psychological theory. Psychology is not restricted to time. Also (against contrary belief) context isn't just historical stuff, it also includes things about human nature and so forth. Be careful which texts you use Freud for though - it works best for Jekyll and Hyde and potentially Macbeth.
@Gruoch-fr2qf Agreed. Although the caveat is that it could potentially impress an examiner - useful for candidates aiming for the top grades. It's a gamble, but I would certainly agree that it's a waste of time in many situations. Personally, I use pre-prepared analysis of Freud in different GCSE texts - and it works a treat!

the id is responsible for desire and is in the unconscious and is what drives every character to their actions. for example in romeo and juliet , romeo is driven by his desire for love, therefore his impulsivity for it, despite being aware of the familial feuds. and juliet is driven by her id to be relentless and go against the patriarchal rules and therefore she got secretly married to romeo
