I'm an MOT tester and I'm telling you now stop taking your car to that garage. They are bent, if DVSA paid them a visit they would be in trouble because they are making fraudulent fails. Nothing wrong with the brake pipes, oil (yhh bolt missing) but not enough to deem a fail, missing the strut bolt (what can i say). Find a new garage and stay well away from that one.
You mean DVLA.
As a tester myself, thats fkn shocking. Basic stuff!!!! Locking/retaining device loose, track rod end my arse.
I totally agree, I do mot’s as well mate there’s nothing wrong with those brake lines, wasn’t worth reporting. But once again great video
I totally agree. Confusing hydraulic oil for engine and transmission oil... missing that lose strutt... Failing for slight surface rust on a brake line.
The sad thing is most people would had gone and spent thousands on another car after that fail.
Can t see anything deemed unworthy for the road . That should of passed . You've been had by them mate
OMFG How did they not see the loose strut bolts, They should be struck off and launched in to space lol.
They prob loosened them themselves and took that bolt out the pan and loosened the other one for more "work"
Your mot station need checking with vosa fail it on stupid things that are not failures and miss out DANGEROUS things
Mate i love your video's. Love your channel. So relaxing yet informative at the same time 👌👌
Time for a new MOT station fella.
loving the more recent uploads
The oil coming from the pan looked normal - if it's just the oil cap and / or crankcase vent pipes that have some mayo, it's usually caused by condensation build up. It's accelerated by short trips (engine doesn't see operating temps for a long enough time to burn off the moisture) and leaky gaskets etc. that allow moisture to enter the engine when sitting. Some engine designs are more susceptible to this.
Nugetti Yes I agree with this my brother had trouble with a 1.6 Astra he was always doing short distance at the time a great car though.
On a previous mot there was an advisory for overheating during its test so its possible there is a cooling system issue but most likely the usual vauxhall mayo build up.
Hello. That mayo might come from a clogged PCV. If you have the same on the breather pipes, remove the valve cover and clean it up with hot pressured water. The mayo should disappear.
great video mate, surprised you couldnt feel that wheel wobble through the steering wheel
Another good video James. I tend to agree with you about the brake pipes. They looked perfectly fine just like your Fiesta ones did. Like you say, there might be a directive where if you see any rusty coloured corrosion anywhere then it must be deemed a failure because they sure looked fine to me.
Cracking idea that of sticking a trolley jack under the tyre. The number of times I have jacked up the front end of a car & forgotten to loosen the wheel nuts. Or tried to lift of a heavy tyre/wheel. Top Tip!
Make sure how many turns you made to take the ball joint of as when putting new ones on might put our tracking out keep up with the good work mate 😊
Another quality video!
My personal tip- you can use a scissor-type ball joint splitter to push the rubber exhaust hangers halfway off the pin. Once they've starting going over the ball on the end of the pin (if your hangers have them) they're much easier to shift by hand. It's also handy for breaking them free if they're stuck on with rust.
This is for all engines - On the engine block, where the timing case, or in some cases, the rear main seal carrier or oil pump meet the engine block, a bead of quality sealant should be used where the surfaces mate before fitting the sump and gasket. Not all over the sump or gasket, just a very sparingly on the join where the 2 components meet. This has been standard for pretty much every manufacturer I’ve worked for.
Great video wish I had the knowledge to work on my car like that.
That brake pipe ain’t even worth a failure! Yes as someone mentioned the oil look very milky! It’s most probably the chain cover gasket failed, head gasket normally ok on these! Also would be worth changing the oil filter as you got the oil out as you didn’t mention it! Also what you can do with the kick off is put some beam benders on so the kick off is a straight line! Also I’d be taking the car else where for an mot in case they’ve missed something! Keep up the videos! 👍
Been watching your vids for over a year now, awsome content! I have always wondered what you do as a job day to day?
0880matty0880 he works in the reptile department at a garden centre advising people on tank sizes and special habitat requirements. He mentioned in a previous video that he sells musk turtles online also as i remember him saying he was losing half his stock when posting the live pets due to a certain delivery company using refrigeration vans
@@jayjayk4915 nice one, thank you for the reply! 👍
Sometimes the ball joint for the aduster can pop out of the reflector bowl if someone has tried adjusting it to far one way, which judging by whoever has previously worked on it and left bolts loose is a possibility. Sometimes you can pop the ball back in with a couple of levers.
Should do a drip test and see if more than 5ml falls from the affected area over a set amount of time (5 mins I think). If more than 5ml or more is drips down its a fail. I've checked 2018 regs so I recommend you show them the book if its less than that! Great vid!
Great Video and good repair, thou I would love to see the oil Sump cleaned, on the outside to. Thanks mate.
what i find works best to find oil leaks is to do it in the dark, use a torch. The new oil coming out will stand out because it's shiny. I have narrowed down oil leaks this way where I couldn't easily find it in the light of day.
When I done my tie rod the thread was different to I had to change the rod aswell mine was also a 1.2 sxi
Good job keep it up 👍
Reckon you could be right about the mot tester noting the corrosion, An MOT station I used to use was literally a 2 minute drive away from my house, so when I put my last car in for an MOT after a week long holiday layup it picked up an advisory for surface corrosion on the brake discs, so I'm guessing they have to acknowledge that they have seen it to cover themselves. Agree with you though the Corsa pipes are still in pretty decent shape after a clean up. Another quality vid mate cheers for uploading 👍
@Delta Romeo Agreed that was a shocking oversight on the part of the mot tester!
If my memory serves me correctly those two loose strut bolts are also your camber angle adjustment, they certainly are on other vauxhalls I have worked on.
Fitted a recon steering rack and forgot to tighten the bolts. Was an experience having to turn steering wheel about quarter on sharp bends before car would follow. Was fine on shallow bends tho.
Great video once again....
Old video I know. But having seen you getting a gun from draper I purchased the same one and “ITs OKAY” never really used it fully yet. Only to remove the wheel nuts once lose. Not sure on the 400nm torque but it’s a good gun.
hi james. how do you go on about insuring multiple cars?. keep up the good vids
hmm i see you got same butter like me in my cors main couse of that is very low milage done only by time to time very typical in that car so its not a head gasket just give her a propper spin for 2 hours ish and shut be fine keep it up you doing nice work mate
I found a dry Brillo pad on brake pipes works wonders then a smear of grease to cover them. Told to me by an old mechanic. But we all have different methods.
You didn't notice the camber change with the loose bolts going round bends ? Remember trying to set up the camber&caster on my old VW Scirocco small amount of adjustment made a huge difference on steering and handling took most of a Sunday afternoon well worth it though handled we'll miss that car
Looks like it's been tampered with to me.. ;o
I had the same with parts from Euro. I bought a fuel filter and the thread was different. I used the correct car details 🤔
Oh hell that play in that wheel bet your glad you got this back before it shook itself to bits
Oi that euro car parts looks really familiar, was it the one in Bredbury??
Isnt thr drive shaft just pulled out because of the loose bolts? Or was that the other side. Good content btw
Would you think about doing vids with your friend in his 1.4?
THat gunk on the oil filler cap is that from standing or is the head gasket on the way out? Just mentioning as if you are selling it and i was looking to buy it`s the first thing i`d check.
Great video... I love it... Liked
did your mot place loosen the bolt and remove the other then say it has a leak???
p Feeley Yeah that’s what I was thinking too 🤨
Very good point
Was checking replies to say the same thing! That wheel movement would of been noticeable when driving... find another garage
Yer cause that’s what mot testers do during an Mot 🤦♂️
Good Video!
you should reserve car parts online euros always has coupon codes usually get 1/3 of price of usual parts
Or register for a trade account with them, that way they can deliver to his door within the hour ;)
Everyone assumes head gasket because of that milky sludge on the cap, chances are, it’s condensation and the car isn’t used much and not driven far. Same thing happened on my Mk2 Polo, head gasket was fine
What's the latest on the trike project?
I use a place that only does MOTs, they're not a garage. They sell themselves on having no reason to fail your car. If its borderline theyll usually give it as an advisory and point it out to you top blokes been using them for years, they've got a brilliant reputation.
Always makes me glad to have dedicated government run MOT centres here in Norhtern Ireland, saves any issues like this.
OMG mot fail for a bit of oil leak but bolts loose should have been marked as a danger! And never mentioned it , Shows MOT system we have in U.K. isn’t really fit for purpose 🙈
Beam kick on the off side headlight is no longer required, n/s only, your mot station needs a serious shake down 👍🏻
great video
What’s your job besides UA-cam u seem to have all the right tackle and know how.
I had a corsa c bloody nightmare car have you had the water in the drivers footwell nightmare job to do
Thanks to all the MOT guys for saying what they said .🏆👍🏻
They didn't see the strut bolts but they failed it on the barely corroded brake line I think those guys deserve a cookie at least
I have the same problem, is possible fix it?
Bulbs in upside down for headlamps?
9:13. HOLY COW
Stainless very easily cold welds together so it might be a nightmare removing it later on more than a rusty steel bolt.
Where didn't buy your gloves from
Could you do a wheel tracking video please
with out buying a four post ramp and a few grands worth of tracking gauges i do not think he'll be doing them anytime soon. tbh you should go to a good suspension and tyre shop to get them done professionally
Have you changed the steering wheel on the Fiesta,I thought you had painted it red ?
Delta Romeo doh I should have noticed as I have a focus lol
Glad you've got gloves now... When watching all of your videos I've been thinking you really ought to invest in some!
Can I ask you what do you think about Hyundai i40 cars? are they good cars ?? I want to buy the i40 1.7crdi with the automatic transmission dct
Yes you should have no Issues my brother has the Tucson 1.7 crdi No issues
That Corsa was a death trap.
I know what the tester as done, it gives you a special notice on the computer that Corsa’s have play in the top mounts from factory and he’s must of noticed the play but put it down the play in the strut mount, still no excuse to miss the loose bolts tho, (let me guess tho £25 mot? And that’s what you get)
Delta Romeo, I’m not saying hes got any excuse in missing that I’m just putting why I thought he may of over looked it, 100% should of noticed with that amount of play
Oooo man be in mk2 focus squad
Got to agree with all the other comments, find yourself another MOT garage! Tells you it's dangerous to use on the road because of an hydraulic leak - which turned out to be just engine oil, but totally missed the fact one of the struts was about to part company with the hub! Scary stuff.
I took my car for an MOT once, the guy rang me saying the car was ready, drove off, few miles down the road, engine management light came on, car could not regenerate, boost pressure bullshit, I looked around the engine, couldn't see anything, pulled the exhaust pressure sensor and gave it a good clean up, nothing changed, took the car to a decent garage only to find a very fine cut in the turbo hose which wasn't normal as it looked like if it was poked with something very sharp and definitely wasn't a cracked pipe. so I would't be surprised if they had something to with the missing/loose missing bolts
An easy way to confirm where a leak is coming from, dust some talc over the areas you suspect, then any fresh oil/water leaks are easily visible.
No, you can buy it in every supermarket.
@Delta Romeo the asbestos containing talc was banned in the 1980s I think but you can still buy talc
WOW! Spots the 'rusted brake line' but missed the strut bolts. Hmmm.. If they call that 'rust', they should see our cars here in Montreal! Glad we don't have MOT's here!
Look for an other MOT station, and ask if they can do iT when you are there, here in Holland i look when they do the check. I can see what is not ok.
If iT is not ok to look if they are at work, i take the car to an other station
I have a strange feeling unless you have had that sump apart yourself in the past and left those bolts loose that this MOT centre maybe pulling a fast one on ya and you might need to ask them about this and see how red their faces get , and maybe report them.
Threads have been mashed on the new tie rod.
I know I'm just sitting here and typing while you're doing the hard graft, but you do realize that had you given the suspected leak area a good clean with some carb/brake cleaner spray then let the engine run for abit over the course of a couple days, you might have rather easily spotted exactly where the oil is seeping out from and saved yourself a load of work or second guesses. That is why the top takeaway from this video is ; always clean up the oily pools and bits when you suspect a fluid leak. Making the area spotless will highlight where fresh fluids escaping from and where they simply collect/splatter instead of wondering if you have multiple leaks .
Mot tester missed all the holes in the rear wheel wells of a forester s turbo I purchased. So sat in garage on stands Oh well.
Track rod end in UK
holy shit, those bolts on the strut shocked me. how the hell the MOT tester didn't notice them I do not know.
Unless you do shoddy work and forget to tighten up bolts etc it is the garage pulling a fast one.
The mayo under the oil cap is just condensation but wait for the car experts to say its head gasket
The rocker cover is plastic and sweats
You should come fix my Polo haha. I'd pay of course :P it's burning oil So it's either the guide valves or pistons. I'll supply tea, cakes etc hah. Great video, keep it up man.
MobileGaming what polo is it mk1-3 or newer?
2003 3 cylinder 1.2
Had the same problem on mine, its a common prob
Can someone help me, with this video the clock is blue does anyone know what bulb or where to buy coloured bulbs for the clock? Please help
Terry Lake he used blue hammerite on the bulbs
Was there a video that he put out showing how he did it?
jay jay does he have a video showing how he does it and what type of hemmerite paint?
There’s definitely something fishy about that garage, Those brake lines are CLEAN!
i think i need new tie rod ends as mine are flat as a pancake
Where are u from ?
Definatley been tampered with mate. Which garage was this, thats pretty fucked up.
I was just changing a tie rod end today and ran into the same issue where the threads didn't meet and screw in... :(
That's amazing that those strut bolts got missed, gives concern for MOT testers out there...
As a mechanic myself I am flabbergasted that an MOT tester would miss those dangerous pinch bolts on the strut and fail the car for surface rust on that brake pipe. General rule of thumb for rust on brake pipes is that most often than not the rust appears worse than what it actually is. If you press the nail of your thumb in to rusty pipe and it creases it, the pipe needs changing. If the pipe doesn't crease then you can do what this chap did in the video.
You need to name and shame that garage fella dangerous as fuck 😱
those gloves are so worth it keeps you from having hobo hands.
Also get yourself a thread gauge, really useful when ordering replacement bolts, www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0015NSU0I?tag=amz-mkt-chr-uk-21&ascsubtag=1ba00-01000-org00-win70-other-nomod-uk000-pcomp-feature-rscomp-wm-5&ref=aa_rscomp
Tie rod end😭 track rod end surely. Anyone else??
I,M a tester, take it to a difference station . That is absolutely shocking. And that brake pipe at the particular section you cleaned up is not even an advisory
You might want to take it some Where else for mot if they failed that brake pipe
My car just failed it’s MOT 😭
Good job buddy maybe you should be a MOT tester.
Anyone else want to see a tool box tour?
A few things wrong, you done half of it already,i be well surprised if they fail it again, why not try another garage and see what it fails there, them strut bolts where well loose.
To echo the other comments, time to find a new garage?
cover the pipes with thick grease so they cant see. i do it all the time.
Mate I'd find another test station.
If a garage says there’s something wrong or broken on my van I make sure they show me I don’t trust anything people say until they prove it.
