  • A new analysis of seismic waves show that the earth’s inner core slowed down its speed of rotation relative to rest of the planet and is now spinning slower. In ThePrint #̦PureScience, Sandhya Ramesh explains how.

Apparently, the core has been slowing down since 2009, I'm just wondering if all the dramatic weather occurrences over the past decade are somehow a result of this....🤔

Here is a video that shows the retrograde motion of Mercury relative to Earth. ua-cam.com/video/FtV0PV9MF88/v-deo.html. Other than that important detail, it's a good illustration to explain the illusion of retrograde motion.

It seems easier to observe a very distant galaxy and learn about it than understand what is below our feet. Paradoxical.
Few weeks back, I have read that in Mars also similar phenomenon has occurred resulting in formation of “wrinkles“ on the crust, which are about 2km tall. Is it possible that the earth’s crust also develop similar wrinkles on account of different spinning rates of mantle and inner core?

No it appears to us like that.
      Simple experiment :
-You and your friend go to a park and find a roundabout or merry go round.
-You sit on roundabout & start to spin & you friend will run along side by you.
-If suddenly your friend starts to run slower than your spin, It appears to your eyes that he is running backwards ( opposite to the direction of your spin )
Similar phenomenon here with Earth and Core.
