- Caves seem to be the main theme of this city. That means loads of trainers to take out, and some more Pokemon to find and catch! Hey, get away you Pokemaniac!

Having a bit too much fun with that neuralizer, eh?
LionsEatNoobs (Mighty Lion LPs)I don't know what you're talking about?(brightflash) ... sorry what was I doing?
Koffing's base stats in Gen 2: HP - 45 Attack - 65 Defense - 95 Sp. Attack - 60 Sp. Defense - 45 Speed - 35. Koffing is a physical wall, not a special wall.
And here are the balls from Kurt that don't actually work as intended in Gen 2: The Moon Ball, for some ungodly reason, has a x4 catch rate on Pokémon that evolve with a Burn Heal - that is to say, nobody. The Love Ball has a x8 catch rate on Pokémon of the same species AND gender, which is surprisingly progressive. The Fast Ball has a x4 catch rate against Pokémon that can flee in battle, but only for Grimer, Magnemite and Tangela. Any other Pokémon that are capable of fleeing aren't affected.
The other new balls all work as intended and can be very useful. The Friend Ball especially give set a caught's Pokémon happiness at 200, making it very useful for getting a Crobat super early. The problem with those balls, however, is that Kurt can only make one ball at a time and it takes him all day. Gen IV allowed you to make new balls in bulk, but by that point, we got Net Balls, Dive Balls, Quick Balls, Timer Balls, and especially Dusk Balls, which are all objectively better. Such is the sad story of Kurt.
pokemon that evolve with a burn heal...oh boy that must have been fun to explain lol
"The Fast Ball has a x4 catch rate against Pokémon that can flee in battle, but only for Grimer, Magnemite and Tangela. Any other Pokémon that are capable of fleeing aren't affected."
Which makes me despise Delibird even more...
Blaine: "I told you that you better have Burn Heal!"
Make no mistake, the Gen 2 titles are much more stable than the Gen 1 games, but it's easy to forget that they're still held together with glue and duct tape for the most part. There's a reason among other things why Game Freak decided to rewrite the coding from the ground up with Gen 3.
@@shadeknight6537 Poor Kanto gets flacked the most by this, getting a LOT of content cut out. Since it was a miracle Kanto was even able to fit on the cartridge anyways I don't mind this, and hopefully the gen 4 remakes have a lot more of the Kanto stuff intact, but it's still hilarious seeing how pathetically small areas like Viridian Forest and Mt. Moon have gotten.
Hey, a spoiler for future parts, in case Johnny edits the battle out: ELLIOT IS ACTUALLY IN THIS GAME!!!
There's an NPC called Elliot in the game, and he's a Camper. He also has a girlfriend. :D
Are you from the future? Quick, what are tomorrow's lucky lottery numbers?
With how knowledgeable Matt is about Pokémon I want him and chuggaaconroy in a competition to see who knows more about Pokémon
Tbh as much as Chuggaaconroy knows his stuff. It always came across like he had bulbapedia on with him or something like that. Like he was just reading it straight from the source, I might be wrong but that's just how it always felt in his videos... While Matt is doing a lot of this off the top of his head. So personally I'd place my bets on Matt more.
Chugga would beat me.
MMetelli Aww c'mon Matt, don't you want to be the best, like no one ever was?
Austin Stewart He could be unbeatable.
YAS!
Funny that you mention No Guard, Matt... one of my greatest fears when Red, Blue and Yellow were released on the Virtual Console and made compatible with Pokébank was that it would be possible to acquire a Machamp with No Guard and Fissure... thankfully, all Pokémon transferred from Game Boy games have hidden abilities, so Machamp is stuck with Steadfast instead.
I miss the longer episodes, being honest.
Slowpokes can summon rain when they yawn? Quick Elliot, yawn so we don’t have to endure this intense heat any longer.
Moon Ball and Love Ball don’t work as intended in this generation.
Even if they did work, they’re pretty much useless. But they look pretty!
Too bad PokéBalls don't have a cosmetic effect in Gen 2
Pokemaniacs in this game look like they'd be a gym leader.
Poke-Maniacs: The average Pokemon fan.
Bada ba bo ba ba
WA
Hub Pie Not enough making Rule 34 five second after something is revealed for that to be the case though.
If anything Matt has a good point about the changes the Poke-Maniacs going from normal looking to cosplay
Hub Pie
Group of black men:
OOOOOOOOOOOH!
Zack! Zack! He's a Poke-maniac!
No guns! Use a bow instead. Or this electric dragon who helped found modern Unova...
"Fuck you, Fox!" Said Wolf.
Even though Dark types were meant to counter Psychic types, almost every single dark type sucks in this game. They either are physical sweepers (meaning at best they deal scratch damage to Psychic types cuz all Dark moves are special) or they don't join until Kanto, meaning they're very underleveled.
If they wanted dark types to be the answer to psychic types, the should have at least put Houndour in Johto.
It's actually rather sad when you think about how gen 3 introduces the 2 types so much better. One of the first mons you can catch is Poocyhena, a dark type, and in the cave near the 2nd gym, you can catch Aaron, a steel/rock type and even a pure steel type in Mawile.
QueenyPie another reason why Gen 2 is bellow Average.
To be fair, there weren't many Psychic-type users for the Dark-types to capitalize on during the Johto journey... but that still doesn't excuse us players being stuck with Umbreon (and Sneasel in Crystal) as the ONLY choices for Dark-types until we go to Kanto.
Also, KAREN FROM ELITE FOUR FAILS AT LIFE! She could've easily put Sneasel and Tyranitar in her team instead of Gengar and Vileplume.
Or how about a good chunk of Johto Pokémon only being available in Kanto? The fuck is a logic?
Is that the next Phoenix Wright villain in the thumbnail?
mechashadow I'm DYING!
'Ohhh' Could be in GTA: San Andres character's words, Big Smoke: "OooOOHHHhh!"
MUH *DAWG*
I picked up a zubat in X and Y and raised a crobat for the first time: it was surprisingly fun
BlueDragon I always laugh when people hate on Zubat and run from it. Crobat is one of the best poison types out there. It's so underrated.
It's a great Pokémon :) extremely fast and has an assortment of annoying support moves like Confuse Ray, Toxic, Defog and Giga drain/Fly.
In the later gens you can make use of its decent attack stat with moves like Cross Poison, Roost and Acrobatics or Brave Bird.
Crobat is amazing
Crobat sucks and nothing anybody says can change my mind.
Fite me
Actually, Pokemon you caught yourself will disobey you, too. However, they will only do that at higher levels. Without a badge, traded Pokemon will obey you until level 15 at the highest. Pokemon you caught stay obedient until 20. Badges only serve to increase the threshold. Traded Pokemon will stay true to that, but your own caught Pokemon will stay true past that for up to another ten levels.
Also, the Hiker between Azalea and Union Cave? The rematches are weird. He raises his Machop to Machamp very quickly, only to de-evolve it into a Machoke. Somehow. It makes no sense.
The funny thing about the level-based disobedience is that if you get a glitched pokemon that's above level 100 it will disobey you even with all eight badges! They actually hardcoded it so the eighth badge enables pokemon *up to level 100* to always obey, instead of just making it disable the check entirely.
Then again in gen 3 the only truly mandatory badge to unlock the elite four is the sixth, so I can't credit them with always making decisions that make sense.
where the fuck did here about that?
Johnny, if you want to access Trade Evolutions on an emulator without having to track down the specialised systems, I suggest taking a look at the Universal Pokemon Randomiser.
Basically, you choose what it randomises and how, meaning you can choose not to randomise anything, while merely changing things such as making impossible evolutions (Mostly trade ones) into ones that can be done by just one player. The other useful thing is that you can save the altered ROM under a different name, so you don't mix them up and you get to keep the original ROM as well.
I've just run my Gold ROM through it to see what the new evolution methods are. Every trade evolution barring Slowking has now been set to a level between 30 and 40, while Slowpoke into Slowking is now done by Water Stone.
Up until Gen VI, Steel was weak against Fire, Ground and Fighting, immune to Poison (both the type and the status ailment, except in Gen II, where the status can still land if it comes from a non-Poison attack), neutral against Water and Electric and resistant to everything else.
Gen VI removed some of the resistances, making Steel neutral against Dark and Ghost, but it also made Steel resistant to the newly-introduced Fairy-type and Fairy weak against it.
Arcanine is my favorite pokemon of all time.
Fighting is also good against steel.
Punching steel works just as well as melting it, of course
I'm assuming that, given those steel guys's insane defenses, fighting is rarely dangerous to them?
VonFirflirch Not really given that 2 prominent fighting attacks are special: Focus Blast and Aura Sphere. Close Combat is also a worry. It's physical sure, but it's power, accuracy and the fact that you can spam it spells trouble for steel types.
Yet steel somehow resists steel even tho most equipment used to shape and cut steel are made of metal as well instead of karate chops and upper cuts.
Little did Matt know that 3 years later hex would get a buff and now is the best ghost type move you can use
Gen 2 pokemanic looks like Matthew Patel from Scott Pilgrim.
Ninetales really shines in Gen V, where it gains Drought. Sadly, Gen VI nerfs all weather abilities and introduces a better Drought user in the form of Mega Charizard Y. Gen VII punishes Kantonian Ninetales even further by giving Drought to yet another Pokémon (Torkoal) and introducing Alolan Nintetales.
Fun fact since Matt mentioned Onix's shit Attack stat: Onix has the same base Attack as Pidgey, no joke.
A Slowpokes's yawn summons rain... that eternal raincloud over Route 33 in HeartGold and SoulSilver makes a lot more sense now! :o
What a nice picture of Lewis in the thumbnail.
Jack Noir he always looked like Leon
Oh, I never realized you could delete someone's number in this game.
Koffing focus more on Defense then Special Defense while Vulpix focus on Special Defense and Speed.
Heavy Balls are only practical against Lugia and Snorlax. Fast Balls work all weird. And I think some have a quirk with the code because the early games were very glitchy...
2:58 Elliot: "Sandshrew!"
*image of the "Oh, You!" meme with Elliot and Sandshrew*
I will never look at koffing again after not being unable to see the WTF perve face xD
Man, I was crying from laughter before the 3 min. mark.
"Certain emulators allow you to trade Pokemon." Yeah, it's called the 3DS Virtual Console.
And before anyone corrects me: yes, I know there are actually emulators that have that function. I'm just being a smartass.
None of Kurt’s balls work except heavy and lure, Love works on same gender, moon works if you evolve with burn heal, fast ball enhances the more specially defensive you are, and so on
Spinners always make me so anxious. I just want to get around this fucker and continue on my way, but NOPE, gotta beat his crappy common mons. That I can occasionally slip by makes it kinda worse.
Ah, the apricorn mechanic. I never used it. If I recall right, it takes a whole day to get an apricorn ball and I couldn't be arsed to wait that long. Kurt only takes one type of apricorn per day, but takes as many as you got, so the mechanic is alright, just I never remembered and never felt the need.
9:14 Hey Gold, I heard there's a butt load of Dunsparce fuckin' in a cave, I don't care Anthony!
As much that Zubat is severely common, I still like using them.
I've always loved Onix despite its pathetic attack, and I love Steelix, one of my top favorites. In Gen 4 onward I like to raise a Geodude in the Daycare Center until it has Earthquake and Stone Edge then breed it with a female Onix so it has the best strongest STAB moves along with an Adamant nature. Still 45 Attack but all of that does help, and 170 Defense is useful.
Time for Union Cave this is going to be fun
"CLUTCH... NIXON!" I guess Totodile does have Ferberger-esque quailities to him. Continuity??
GuineaPTwinkie I hope sow and miss oportunity to call him ferburger too.
If you put the captions on around 8:16 it says "poking mayonnaise"
Is that Matthew Patel in the Thumbnail?
Jurassic Reptile *Bollywood Intensefies
Nah, can't be, he's not dressed like a pirate.
@@DKen2021 Pirates weren't in that year.
Brock even tried to salvage his Onix with an Eviolite at the PWT in Black 2 and White 2... it also failed. :/
Great. Give the doujin more ideas why don't ya?! XD
Pre-Gen 6 Steel was weak to Fire, Fighting, and Ground, was neutral to Water and Electric, and resisted everything else. Post-Gen 6 they're neutral to Ghost and Dark and resist Fairy. It's still one of the best defensive types thanks to the resistances and high defenses.
Immune to Poison, too, both the type itself and the status ailment (except in Gen II, where Twineedle can still inflict Poison on them, and in Gen VII, where Corrosion bypasses the status immunity).
Speaking of fairy, it's about time steel and *especially* poison gained something they were useful against. Beforehand steel was essentially just an inferior fighting and poison was just... better left undiscussed.
The neuralizer acts sorta like a smoke bomb.
If Geodude is a rock type, and it eats rocks dose that mean Geodude is a Cannibal?, plus can it eat it's own rock poop? These are important questions that needs to be answered.
(Slowpoke Well. Also known as the Rainmaker Well.)
So that's where Kazuchika Okada trains at. Either that or the Inklings invaded Johto for ranked.
GreenShinobi70 is he related to Koji Okada?
Satan The Arbiter Not that I'm aware of, nope.
Red = Level Ball
Blue = Lure Ball
White = Fast Ball
Black = Heavy Ball
Pink = Love Ball
Green = Friend Ball
Yellow = Moon Ball
U can emulate the transfer pak for projects 64 and trade that way. The extension is called nrage I think.
I feel like koffing or any pokemon that expel gas should be weak to fire
Heal Ball is Gen 4, Matt.
I thought Elliot was a Hypno
oh boy bring Nueralizer again this might take long
I thought Elliot was a Hypno not a Slowpoke?
Actually Matt got it backwards about Koffing. Average HP with high defense and alright special defense
Also, disobedience can be seen in pokemon with your OT, it just usually never comes up because the badges that dictate obedience usually have the upper limit way past what you'd have at that point in the game
Design wise I prefer Haunter.
At least in gen 2 your mom buys items that are useful, like healing items and stuff. In the remakes she just buys those berries that reduce super effective damage after a while. I'd much rather super potions, or heck, maybe like status healing or hp healing berries...just saying.
In my experience whenever I played Silver, she always bought stupid Pokedolls that you can use to decorate your room. I OUTGREW THIS STUFF 3 YEARS AGO MOM!
She'll buy you a Moon Stone. Absolutely can't argue with that.
Fire and gas don't mix.
John, you say pointless pokeballs I say free pokeballs to sell but god damnit make sure you have a lot of them in a single stack because he will only make one per stack
steel is also weak to fighting
Longer episodes please
If you over level a pokemon you caught it will disobey you
Scott Elder only traded pnes actually
Nope, even to this day, if you caught it, it will listen no matter what.
As a random question, favorite 5 Johto Pokemon? Mine are Ampharos, Dunsparce, Espeon, Crobat, and Kingdra.
Umbreon
Espeon
Crobat
Suicune
Heracross
Furret.
HerosHelper Linoone is gen 3
High Voltage Then Flaaffy.
Heracross, Ampharos, Typhlosion, Quagsire, and Ho-oh. A shiny level 100 Ho-oh was my first ever wonder trade with X and Y, I'll never forget.
What ever happened to the persona 2 innocent sin playthrough?
Rougewarrior073 matts psp is busted
Hiker: I'm a pretty little girl
The Retro Gamer I see too that you watch the great Gambino.
Actually first lol
Since someone brought it up:
I still _HATE_ Arceus.
IDK, I feel like the literal GOD of Pokemon should be something more GRANDER and Cosmic than a Shitty lookin' Moose.
But it's a COSMIC moose.
It's also not even a moose...the thing itself is actually based on a lot of creation myths, myths in general, and even those calf/bull idols.
Shin Computer-Monster But Arceus is not a moose, it's totally a llama.
I always figured it was a goat given it's long neck, short tail and potbelly, and the massive thing around it's waist is a halo.
The irony is that goats are more Satan oriented.
Regardless I'm not a big fan of Arceus either. I'm not against the idea of a pokemon god, but I feel the design isn't grand enough nor it's stats.
Austin Stewart I always took it as the Arceus we see is an Avatar of the God. He is invisible(like the Abrahamic God) and his Avatar is Bovine(like a few Hindu Gods) so I think his looks are awesome since the Sinnoh Dex implies this is but a form of Him since he lacks any tentacles in that form(e?).
