I was recently thinking about one of these, but ended up going with Aussie Air for simplicity and longevity. 16cfm runs at 86 db.
With adaptive milling on Al I find running air with the coolant great, but it certainly cycles the compressor!
Yes 16cfm is certainly a big unit. I'm sure the cast iron piston style of compressor will last you a lifetime. My Chicago air is only 10.2cfm. I predominately use flood cooling when machining, but if I ever want to use air mister (fog buster etc.) I could always turn on the old girl on for back up or just use its tank for extra capacity. For me it's all about noise levels and keeping the neighbours happy :-)

Just to note, a 3dBA difference is about double the sound pressure level, so from quiet to noisy for that thing it is a difference of 4 times the sound pressure level between low to high

You can also daisy chain the tanks for more run time between cycling. Use a large diameter hose like 3/8" or 1/2" and Milton Type V fittings. A double Male with a valve on it would work to connect the 2. That is noticeably quiet though, very nice.

Not so much of a neighbour problem because my workshop is solid brick, but annoying for me when I'm in the same room. I'm just a hobbyist, and retired, but love learning and getting into projects. Wow. Impressive. My old 15 cfm twin piston belt driven compressor at that distance I would have to yell to be heard. I'm convinced I'm selling it tomorrow and buying the air hush. I paid $1500 about 30 years ago for it, so $1000 today is cheap. Thanks .

most noise from a compressor is from the intake.Geta silence intake filteror run the intake outside to reduce the sound.Major improvement.

Wow great video. Ive got the hush 100 in my shop and the hush 20 at home which i admit is waayyyy to small for general automotive work. Big difference going from a noisy direct drive and belt drive air compressors to this thing. I like both of my compressors though. Really awesome.

Have had compressors for about 50 years. This is by far the best I have come across. I recommend it highly.
BUT
A question for owners of this model.
I am having constant problems with very small dust like particles being passed from the compressor units down the air hose to the tank. These particles jam open the valve that can be seen as a brass unit at the end of the flexible line on the side of the tank. Allows air to escape to another valve tucked inside the chassis of the unit, and which drains air until the tank is emptied.
Have spoken to Sydney Tools about it, and I'm pretty sure I'm not Robinson Crusoe.
Particles would have to travel through the snorkel pipe, the compressor, and the braided pipe to get to this valve.The machine operates in a very clean environment.
I would appreciate any feedback.

You want to get the mufflers for yr cnc air outlets..this makes a huge difference to noise levels..hope this helps combat the neighbouring noise..and also stops the annoying hissing

Just ordered one 4 days ago and got the phone call today to pick it up. Let me tell you it's the best on the Australia market for the money Chicago HUSH100 at $1,174.00 👍👍 Having air compressors and using them all my life (And that's giving them a hard time) I'm very very impressed with them. But all ways remember big is best, You don't want to make a small one work like a big one and run it's guts out !!

I went and looked up the specs..... CFM: 10.2 @ 100psi (289lpm FAD) .....not bad at all!!! You can pretty much run anything off that....nice! I'd like to put those pumps on my 80gal tank. :) Great vid buddy!

@@DCT_Aaron_Engineering yep.....the sanding/grinding tools take a good bit of air! I think your wife might agree.....if the compressor comes up short on providing compressed hot air, you can make up the difference.......we can probably put the hose in either end. ;) Seriously.....I'm happy for you getting the quiet compressor! Having that other one in the shop like that had to be brutal! I can barely hear mine, but I'd still like to have a much quieter one. :) I've actually been collecting the fittings to rework my lines a bit. Switching everything to 3/8" or high flow and adding a few extra drops. I'm waiting on the crimpers to arrive. I'm going to crimp ferrules on instead of using screw type hose clamps. They're actually pretty cheap and should look way better.

Hi Adam. Yes they are good compressor. If I lived in a rural area on some land with a bigger shed I'd probably stick with cast iron reciprocating piston type air compressor. However, because I live in a built up outer city area I need the quieter type. Cheers and thanks for watching. Aaron.

Looks similar to what California air tools sales here in the states. A well deserved upgrade for your shop. The important question, how did you get it up on that bench?
Hi Jody. Yes these units are very similar to the Californian Air Tools one. I'm not sure if these are sold anywhere else. Are they available in the States? In regards, to the bench. You have a very good eye. I tried to get it up there with my shop crane but ran out of stroke. I had to get my Son-in-law help me lift it up. It's still on the bench and now I'm waiting for him to come back to get it down ha ha ha

Nice looking compressor. You could build a little sound proof enclosure to put over the top and it's be near dead quiet.
Hey Manny. You read my mind mate. That's exactly what I want to do with it. Stick it under a bench and use some carpet squares or foam to insulate it. No more screaming banshee compressors for me mate :-)

The spec is 800 (h). What is the distance between the ground and the frame for the axle? I need to reduce the height a little if I were to get one for it to fit into my ute canopy. Thinking to remove the wheels and bolt it to the floor of the ute tray.
For work I use a grinder for spurts of 15 to 20 mins, this goes on all day (8 to 10hrs). It requires 15,000rpm, 17.2 CFM, 90 PSI. Do you think this will handle the grinder? The receiver recovery seems to be quite fast, as you mentioned about 3 mins 0 to 100%.
By your calculation. It will require about 1500w to run all three motors. I plan on building a deep cycle/solar panel/inverter setup to run this compressor as electricity isn't always available. Would you be able to provide any comments or suggestions?
Hi Ben. To be honest, I'm not sure how your solar, battery & inverter would hold up to current draw 1500w. That's like boiling water in a kettle and I know my Ryobi 1.7kw generator feels the pain when I do this. As for ground clearance, you could remove the wheels and gain 100mm. As for CFM flow when using an air grinder, I think it may struggle to supply a continuous amount for 20mins. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I use my compressor to power my CNC machine and plasma torch, but they continually cycle for more than 5 minutes. Cheers, Aaron.
PS: you may have better success with a Honda (4 stroke) powered air compressor

Question as I have the old piston air compressor which now is dead time to update as I do lot of spray painting car parts panels etc which Hush would be a good one for me to purchase.
G'day mate. Yes the compressor would work fine for spray painting. I think you should get the bigger unit though. Mine is the 3 motor 100L tank and it kicks in and out a bit using my plasma cutter. My mate Ken bought the bigger 4 motor one for that reason. Cheers, Aaron.

@@Snip59 It is always better to go bigger in my opinion. You can turn each motor off too independently. The 70L may cycle in and out a bit when spray painting me thinks.

I am looking at purchasing the 150L compressor due to the noise level mostly it will be a lot more neighbour friendly, do you think the air flow will keep up with the gun for a ute respray 😁
Hi Tim. Thanks for watching and providing positive feedback. I think the larger 150L unit with the 4 pumps should easily keep up. If you know the CFM rate of the gun, check that figure against the output rating of the compressor. I use mine with my plasma cutter and it keeps up most of the time. Hope this helps mate? Cheers 🍻. Hold up 35 cents per KWh that’s nuts, we pay around 10-15 cents per KWh here in Canada. Does everyone in Australia have solar cause omg it’s a no brainer at that point.

Hello and thanks for watching. Yes it’s an oilless air compressor. It still gets condensation in the tank, but not as much as my old piston air compressor. Amount varies based on the moisture content in the workshop atmosphere. 👍🍻

I am thinking of getting one of these to run my ATC spindle but not sure which model. The Hush70 has a 70 letter tank and outputs 343 lpm free air delivery but the Hush100 has a 100 letter tank and outputs 289 lpm free air delivery.
G'day Matt. TBH, I'm not sure how that works. The Hush 70 is a twin motor design and the Hush 100 is tri-motor. So you would think 100 would have a better flow rate. I would speak to the sales guy down at your local store and get their advise mate. I'm very happy with mine and it's still going strong. Having the bigger tank also slows down the cycling rate too. @@DCT_Aaron_Engineering I was also thinking of adding another tank to it, from a buggered compressor, but I see a bit of conflicting info wear to couple the 2 tanks together. Have you seen anyone add an extra tank to a compressor?
I'm measuring 73-74 dB at 1m from my old twin piston Pulford belt drive compressor (just a bit bigger than your old one) on a 90L tank which it fills in roughly 2-21/2 minutes - I think you might have a louder than normal unit there. The major concerns I would have with these is that they seem to be a Sydney Tools in-house brand compressor so parts etc only seem to be available through Sydney Tools. Your old Pulford also looks like it's at least 30 maybe 40 years old (as is mine), I wonder what the longevity of these motors / compressors are in the real world, my old compressor has only ever needed 1 belt and a motor swap.
FYI for the same money ($1300) there is a HUSH70 - as the name suggests a 70L tank but it has 2 larger compressors and motors instead of the 3 smaller ones here - the FAD (free air) is rated higher than the HUSH100. It also has an Aluminium tank instead of steel so is much lighter if weight is a factor.

Yes, Sydney tools have branded this Chicago air. However it seems only to be there own product range. Hence parts can only be bought through them. To be honest, I’m still very happy with my unit. The reason I went with 100 L tank was to have more air in reserve. I didn’t know about the larger pumps, on the 70 L unit. Have a nice day and thank you for your input. Regards Aaron.

Thanks for the review on this chicago compressor. I have been thinking of getting one of these for my workshop and will be good for my homemade melting furnace which will need compressed air. I did ask Sydney Tools close to me and for cash was $1,000 but that was a while ago so maybe the price has gone up.

Did you find that the regulator supplied with the Hush 100 was faulty? Mine dropped back to about 5PSI when it was delivering air no matter what pressure was in the tank or what pressure I set on the reg. I only got mine yesterday so I've not done much work with it yet. Certainly quiet though.

@@DCT_Aaron_Engineering I ended up taking the supplied reg off. I am going to connect the compressor to a shop air system and I have a very large receiver mounted outside the shop that I want to run at the same pressure as the fully charged Hush 100. I will then run individual regulators at different points in the shop. I already have three reliable regulators but I was hoping I could use the supplied reg at a fourth point that is still to be added. I will get in touch with Sydney tools to see if they can replace it.

For a revhed. Take an v8 or inline6 engine. Separate petrol injection to 1-2 cylinders and the exhaust to those to an air tank via the needed valves. Guess tank fill fast😁😁

Hi Aaron, is the Hush100/Hush150 suitable for sand/soda blasting; small and large domestic jobs. e.g. removing paint from painted bricks and from old window frames.
Hello. I have used mine for plasma cutting (long duration), and the 3 motors usually keep up. Sometimes I stop and allow it to build up. May I suggest looking at the CFM flow of your sandblaster and compare that against the manufacturers specifications of what each compressor can supply. That price is very reasonable. I have several smaller "silent" air compressors, but I no longer use them because all of my tools are now battery operated. What is the duty cycle on your compressor?
Hello and thanks for watching. That is a very good question. I just reviewed my manual and it doesn't state the duty cycle. I suppose it would vary depending on use and flow rate of the air tools that you are using. From memory, I think this one is rated to 10.2 cfm. Yes moving to battery powered tools is the way to go in my opinion. However, for my shop I need compressed air to run my CNC milling machine. Thanks for watching. Aaron.

Another great video Aaron. I have been looking at the quiet compressors myself but havent seen one with 6 units. I also note max working pressure is 120PSI....what can it maintain in psi all the time like when using a spray guy have you tried that test yet?

Hi Sam thanks for watching and commenting. TBH, your question is a little out of my area of expertise mate. I would buy a vacuum pump to suit your purpose. Take a look at eBay as I was looking for one myself just recently. You may be able to hook your vacuum pump up to an old tank and pull a vacuum in the tank so you have more in storage when needed. G'day Farmer Dan. Yes very expensive isn't it. We mainly use coal powered electricity here in Australia, but with assistance from wind and solar. They have closed some brown coal power stations along the way. Additionally, most power generation has been privatised. Both of these have driven up consumer power prices. I have been on the market for one of those but I can't seem to decide between the 100 litres which has three motors, the 70 litres which has two bigger motors and apparently and according to the specs is much noisier and the 50 litres which has two of the same motors as the 100L.
Did you look at the 70 litre model at all? I want it for working on motorcycles and some air tools and the occasional sand blasting.

To be honest mate, go with what your budget can afford. Having 2 or 3 independently controllable motors is a good feature. I bought a 2.2Hp TOOLEX quiet-type compressor, but could not start it with my 2,000W inverter (I live off-grid), even though the inverter is supposed to "surge" to 4,000W. If I had a compressor with 2 or three 1Hp (750W) motors, should I expect to be able to start the compressor up on one motor with the 2,000W inverter, then progressively add the other/s? Buying a large enough inverter to start the TOOLEX compressor is going to cost about the same as buying a multiple Chicago Air Hush type.

I haven't tried it on my new compressor yet, but you have inspired me to try. I'm still happy with this compressor and I think it was money well spent. Mind you I only use it on the weekends. @@DCT_Aaron_Engineering Hi Aaron, yes, that would be interesting to see if you could get one motor started with the 2000W generator, then switch on the others. I've been thinking of putting a compression release in one or both of the TOOLEX cylinder heads, just to get the motor spinning. Once it is running, then theoretically it will only use 1650W, which my 2000W inverter should have no trouble with. (750W = 1Hp, 2.2Hp X 750W = 1650W) Some 2-stroke Victa mowers had a small compression release valve linked to the starter, and I see on eBay that Husqvarna chain saws use them. Cheers, Boswell.

Thanks for the video, Aaron. Greetings from Brisbane! I'm trying to decide between the 100 and Air HUSH 70, which has 12.1 cfm at 100 psi but only has a 70 litre tank. I'm in the process of putting together an ATC spindle (Avid CNC router with CNC depot's ATC spindle) that needs to be hooked up to an air compressor capable of 100psi output at 5-6cfm. Do you think 12/1 cfm @ 100 psi will be enough to run air mister (fog buster etc.) at the same time?

Hi Mitchell. Moisture build up really depends on how much moisture is actually in the air. If you live in a humid area you will be constantly draining they compressor. Recently when I was in Vietnam, I would drain my friends compressor daily and get 1-2 litres out of it. But home in Melbourne I would drain the old compressor once a week or month and only get 250ml out of it.
How is that machine. Are you happy with the duty cycle ?

Hi Aaron it appears tank drain on this unit of set so it can't drain all the water from the tank , a friend of mine has one and it is a bit of a design issue as he has to tilt his with a hoist to drain the tank ,if not a fair volume of water stays in the pressure vessel
Hey buddy. Thank you so much for telling me about this design flaw. I will check it out ASAP. It's still up on the bench as I'm waiting for help to lift it down ;-).
I made up a low stand on which to place mine. Engineered-in a 25mm (1”) slope on the stand so that the drain plug is at the low-point.
I also bought a small auto-drain for the tank.... but haven’t needed to fit it, as the Refrigerated air dryer has an auto-drain built in.
So I manually drain the Chicago tank about once per month. Usually get about 250 ml ( 1 cup).

I'm trying to figure out what band would write such a song, but I can't, even though the style looks familiar.
Put some serious air filters on this thing. I wrapped my intake filter with a ball of paper towel. It's kinda known thing that the dust particles getting into the pistons of the oil-less compressors will wear them down and the noise level goes up while this happens. Mine is a California Air TOOLS air compressor. Too weak, too small. If I had known I'd buy a larger one. Maybe it's called "tools" air compressors for the tools who buys them. :)

Is that a 240 volt or a 120 volt. Is that oil filled? How is that compared to California Air Compressor?
kermitefrog64 it’s a 240vac model. This style of compressor is oil-less. To my knowledge they are very similar to the California Air range, and I think they would be on par with them. Just don’t buy the Chinese clone version 😉

Maybe not as efficient, more motors more energy required. Gets to volume faster but maybe not as efficient as the single motor.

Thanks for great video, I am considering one my self. I was just wondering life cycle of the pump and replacement cost if pump dies? After quick search on net the pump is only available at Sydney tools and it’s $448. Last thing I need after spending $1,300 and when warranty expires 12 month later in need to replace a pump. What is your opinion?
Hi Marko. Mine has been running trouble free since the day I bought it (touch wood). My mate Luke over at CruddCNC on UA-cam has had his for 3-4 years and he flogs it to death most days and it is also still running strong. TBH, this was one of the questions I asked Sydney tools when I bought the unit. Apparently they keep spare parts in stock for these units and can repair in house. they are very quiet as for your project... i think is would work great the noise level is like day and night. yet check the CFM out put. most compressor dont rsted at 35psi so you got to convert or do more reasearch to calculate if the CFM output is optimal for your sprayer.. good luck...

Depends on air use / total draw. I use mine with my plasma cutter and it cycles in and out ok with that. Check the CFM rating of your sandblaster and the output of the compressor you looking at purchasing. Cheers, Aaron.

Hi Arron, I’ve been looking at these recently too at Sydney Tools and from all the research I’ve done on oil free compressors they certainly don’t seem to have the longevity of oiled compressors...
Then I also noticed that Sydney Tools stocks and sells replacement compressors for all the Chicago Air Hush range, at a very high price too I might add...
It just seems a little disconcerting that they are stocking and selling these replacement compressors as it appears they don’t have much of a lifespan. I note that they don’t seem to stock or sell any other brand compressor motors like Lincoln or Fendi which they also sell, perhaps because they don’t need to as the motors have a much longer lifespan?

I am very happy with it and my friend Luke (CruddCNC) also has one and he has been running it non-stop for the last 2-3 years. The company told me that they stocked spare parts for the motors and compressors and they can repair them in store. I haven’t had any problems with mine (touch wood) so I really can’t validate this. I agree with you, they are expensive and I’m sure there are other units for sale which are better. However, this unit suits my purpose and my budget. Cheers Aaron 🍻👍
