Kodak Gold with a cheap on-camera flash is THE look of the 90s. Last time I tried Gold with flash I thought, "oh my gosh this looks like high school!!!" The photos immediately made me think of Nirvana and pagers and Fresh Prince and slap bracelets. I don't know what it is about how Gold responds to flash but it transforms in a really punchy but graceful kind of way.
Fuji Superia is god tier. It's almost perfect. I love your videos man. You're the main reason I got into Film. Keep doing you bro. The content never disappoints!
I always get too much green with it. Shooting at 300 gets better results. Nothing beats Ultramax 400 at box speed though, or Lomo 800 which is rebranded Kodak.
my comfort film stock is fujicolor 200. I've shot every single possible thing with it, from concerts to bright day shoots. It works wonderfully and I know how to make it work since it's the one I've shot the most.
Out of all the consumer Kodak film stocks I honestly think my favorite is probably colorplus, it might not be the sharpest out of all of them but honestly I think it has the most pleasing and natural looking colors.
I've been shooting with Gold for 3 months now and it's an absolute beast, made some beautiful pictures. There's one I've taken during night In a tunnel which had LED stripes on the sides of it and my friends where in the middle so it looks brilliant. The only con is that night photography is hard on it, but except that it's a BEAST
Been shooting a lot of Gold lately and loving it too! But on the east coast it’s been hard to come by, so when I see it or it comes in stock online I buy it up. Also on the east coast the only drug store film I come across on the rare occasions it’s in stock is Ultra Max 400. But it’s over priced and come in 24 exposures.
I agree…also I’m just not a fan of Ultra-Max. Love Kodak Gold, long as it’s daylight. For lowlight-that’s where the fine grain of Portra/Lomo comes in. I REALLY wish Walgreens would drop the UltraMac and start carrying Gold instead👍🏼
YES!! You just validated my feelings about Kodak Gold 200, I have definitely noticed that superia has a greenish yellow shift in my Pentax K1000, but with Kodak Gold the images are definitely warmer, which I agree looks GOOD to my eye. With a 50mm 1.4 wide open, the superia has this funky 1970's glam photo look, which can look kinda cool in a stylistic way. the Kodak Gold I thought looked great when I went to the lightner museum in St Augustine Florida on the sandstone and blue skies. It just fits warm summer scenes exactly like you want. Superia is at it's best with cooler season landscape scenes. I think it has something to do with your expectations of the color palette given the scenes. Warm tones are expected in warm scenes, more blue green in fall and winter. Mixing those up just looks... weird! Bang for the buck wise, it's really easy to get nice photos with Kodak Gold, I have yet to be disappointed by the pictures I get with it. It's a very forgiving film in that regard
I live in Phoenix and Kodak Gold makes for some beautiful photos for this desert climate, long as it’s daytime. Obviously it’s a faster speed, daylight balanced film, too grainy for lower light golden hour-that’s where the fine grain of Portra or Lomo come in. But for daylight shooting Gold is my go-to👍🏼
Those photos are amazing! I’ve been getting those packs of 3 Kodak gold 200 at Walmart for like a year or so. Definitely the most available film stock yet result is amazing
Kodak Gold 200 is great, but for me the consumer film that I've been in love with is actually Kodak Colorplus 200. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!!
I love Kodak Gold because it is colorful and vibrant. It is also nostalgic for me. It was out of stock at B&H for a while so I ordered 70 rolls of Kodak Pro Image 100, which is now cheaper than Kodak Gold by about two dollars.
I think Gold and Ultramax give off what I call "family photo" vibes, i.e. they remind me of photo's you'd find in an older family album. That isn't a bad thing or an insult though. I love the vibes it gives and use it specifically in some situations for those feels.
I always have Gold in my Olympus Point and shoot for my everyday carry. I grew up with gold when my parents would ask me to buy it from the film store everytime and would specifically ask for Gold 200 Love the film most especially now that Kodak is increasing again.
Currently (11-26-21) you can get Kodak Gold 200 at B and H. It's $10, up from $6.50 just two months ago. Kodak could do a better job of communicating with the film community, particularly people that supported them for decades and never switched to digital. The rise in prices and scarcity are shocking.
fortunately in my country (Indonesia) Kodak Gold is still around $6,65 (Rp 80k). a lot of film lab order it in a huge amount from Kodak (as far as i know) so yeah, it's still very cheap
recently got the scans back for my very first two rolls of film. happy to say they turned out surprisingly well. your channel has been an amazing resource while learning the craft. glad you do what you do and pls keep it up brotha #MINOLTAGANG
It is my go to film, it is readily available in Walmart up here in Canada. I would recommend checking them out down there. I love how it renders blue, especially blue skies. I used to be able to get it for $12.99 cdn for three packs, it has gone up to $16.99cdn and expect it to go higher in January.
Kodak gold was my first film stock and have shot about 4 rolls since I stared shooting film about half a year ago. It's pretty great even though I've grown to like c200 more in the end
Love Gold too, a friend recommended it when I started and reffered to it as "poor man's Portra", my favourite colour stock closely followed by colourplus. If I need something for special shots I go to Portra 160. 🤓👍
Yeees! I've been saying this for the longest time. I'll take Kodak Gold over Ultramax any day. Here in Portugal I can still get a triple pack for 21 dollars. Which is real nice, but there seems to be a scarcity at the moment
hi i have been shooting with Kodak Gold since more than 10 years. I bougth them at CVS pharmacy , Wallgreens ,B&H .. when i was in summer vacations in US . Vey good color film for various photos .
Personally I’d rather go with Fuji Superia 400 (and not for the convenience, if anything Kodak Gold 200 is more “convenient” since it’s cheaper and much easier to find, at least in Europe). This being said if I could go back in time I’d pick superia 200..
I expected him to bring up Portra, surprised with Gold 200, the first film i shot with and yeah it's got that childhood vibes, now trying out Portra and Afgaphoto B&W with my A-1 but yeah Gold 200 is always there in the T50
Hi again from Spain, KingJvpes! So great to hear about your thoughts on this film, in fact I discovered its potential some rolls ago and I totally agree! I love it! The point is here in Spain there’s no problem to find Kodak Gold, Portra, or Ektar. The problem comes when you try to get some Fuji C200 (which I personally love) that was a cheap film (it was available everywhere three of four years back for less than 5€/$) but it isn’t anymore, it’s very hard to find anywhere and the prices have risen up to 10€!! These price increases are going to make me back to digital 😰😰! Well, thanks for your videos again!!
I always preferred Kodak film over Fuji as Fuji does tend to have that cold colour cast and more muted colours rather than warm/neutral tones that Kodak has. I do hope that we start getting more variety of film stocks in stores but not sure that'll happen anytime soon.
Hmm ill have to shoot some. Normally i shoot color digital and B&W film. I was a long time lover of Fuji Acros 100. When that went away, i stayed with kodak porta. Good vid. Ill add this to my rotation.
Kodak Gold 200 is very good. I push mine in camera to 400 ISO and the frames come out to my liking, to the point where I don't need to touch in post. I actually have a roll loaded in my camera right now to test 320 ISO
After I clear out my film archive to a folder to free up space, I found out that I didn't shoot Kodak Gold for 10 years now, the last time I shoot with it is probably early 2014 as far as I remember but I still didn't found my archive from that time using Kodak Gold. My impression at the time is that I don't think it's a particular good film compare to more expensive professional film which I am more amazed by them, Kodak Gold have somewhat tough grain, high contrast, and a bit vibrant picture with yellow tint, which I don't particularly like at the time and it's a film my father always buy back when in was in my childhood, when I found a store that sell more expensive film, I try those film and never go back unless I just want to shoot just for testing the camera and didn't want to care about the picture. Maybe I have some prejudice but I to this day I still have a feeling that I don't want to shoot cheap film, the only cheaper film I shoot time to time is Kodak ProImage 100 and sometime Fuji either 100 200 or 400 but I rarely do though not to the point of not shooting with it at all like I do with Kodak Gold and ColorPlus.
I was not expecting Gold lmao. It was the first color film I shot, and I still love a lot of those early photos. It was a super bright day and I erred on overexposure on a lot of pictures, and all of the pictures had a beautiful washed out brown and yellow look (I know it sounds nasty but i was shooting a power plant by a lake. It worked.)
whenever i see a title like this pray tha its a cheap one since kodak gold in germany went from 6.99 for 3 to 19.99 for 3 this year. but it seems like i cant get away from kodak, then again there film stocks are just beautiful
When I was shooting film I always preferred the ISO 200 films from Fuji and Kodak. They were, it seemed to me, slightly muted compared to the 100 films bur still fine grained. I liked the look of the images shot with them. I recently bought a Kiev 3 rangefinder and four rolls of Gold 200. The problem is I'm in Ecuador and don't know where I can process them.
beauty!! I haven't really used this film as I am also fujifilm lover or Ektar. But I bought this film stock few weeks ago and excited to use it as well!
For me ultramax is a bit too blue. The ultramax photos I took got that slight bluish feel comparing to gold. Because of that, ultramax gave me a cool tune feeling.
was hoping through the intro that you were talking about gold! my family always shot with it and now it’s been my go-to for the last 4 years! tried superia after shooting gold, and personally didn’t get the hype.
Kodak gold rules, I’ve heard people call it mom emulsion haha cause it was the go to cheap film back in the day for family photos! Great video, always love to hear your opinion and regularly go back and watch your thrifting videos with envy as we don’t have those kind of stores here in Australia!!!! 😭😭
Not color, but I've been shooting alot of Silberra U400 lately. It's incredibly bright and high contrast. I've gotten some cool shots of downtown cityscapes with harsh shadows.
Colour plus is more true to colour. Gold has warmer colour cast. Iso 200 is definitely limited in low light situations. Just bought 10pk colour plus, so cheap and so available 😊
I'm a huge fan of Superia Xtra 400. I've shot a ton of Color Plus 200 and have become a fan of that as well. I'll shoot Ultramax 400 every now and then but don't really care for it. If I come across some Gold 200 I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks for posting.
If I shoot colour negative film I shoot Kodak. Kodak Ektar. Back in the day I've shoot Kodak Gold. But the one of ISO 100. Beautiful colours, same warm tones but without any green or magenta tint, good DR and good, small grain, albeit a bit larger than Fuji Superia 100 which was awesome and my No.1 colour negative film. And these days both of those films are discontinued, f***...
Great clip, great Channel! I come from Germany and we get 3 Kodak gold rolls for 16$ in some stores for 10$ ist unbelievable. But it’s super hard to get other Films like the Lomo or anything without Kodak gold, ultra max and B&W Film
Since Fujifilm also has the popular Instax instant film, they can get stores to add a few extra sku's for the 35mm products. Kodak Alaris doesn't have that leverage.
Kodak Gold is my top as well for now. I know this is an old vid and maybe you have a more recent vid changing this again but I'll ask are you still shooting gold? My only real issue is that locally I can only find the 24 exposure gold which is fine but those extra 12 shots make me reach for Superia more often than I'd like because I really do prefer gold for a everyday film.
Kodak Gold was obscenely cheap here in Germany until recently. You could pick up a three-pack for 7.90 euros in a drugstore. Recently they've upped the prices to 18 euros, more than 100% increase. Still relatively cheap in comparison with other colour films but I feel a bit ripped off paying so much more than what I was paying just six months ago. Anyway, it's a film that has grown on me a bit because I didnt like it at first (it's pretty crap when it's not sunny). Still, I think I prefer Colorplus when it comes to cheaper Kodak.
I would not agree with the neutral look of kodak gold, that neutral look had Fuji 400 pro H with an extra coating but that's a whole different story. Personally, I love warmer tones by Kodak these are my all-time favourite
Yo, i know this is out of topic but my rangefinder only allows me to shoot at 1/500 shutter speed, if I want to shoot 800 ASA is there anyway to compensate by adjusting the aperture or am I completely doomed?
A lot of people start loving Gold. I can see that, when i check the prices lately. Sorry, but if i want to shoot in colour, i am going for my digital camera.

Way Back When Kodak Gold Was Cheap and Ubiquitous.
@Francisco Haladjian up until 5 years ago kodak gold was $4 a roll, now its like 3x that...
Kodak Gold 200 is amazing! I'm working on a video right now about shooting some Gold 200 that expired in 2008 lol
I also shoot Kodak Gold off and on. It's good to try several before loading up on just one kind. I kind of like the gold.
I always have Gold in my Olympus Point and shoot for my everyday carry. I grew up with gold when my parents would ask me to buy it from the film store everytime and would specifically ask for Gold 200 Love the film most especially now that Kodak is increasing again.

How can it be both warm and neutral?
IME Fuji always gave artificial colour, almost electronic. I used to regularly use Agfachrome or Ektachrome instead. Agfa CT-100 was superb.
Fuji Superia 400 -> Lomo 800 -> Kodak Gold 200.
I find that super interesting, Kodak Gold is the standard go to cheap film in Germany (available in all convenient stores that carry film)
How is the prices now?
Kodak Gold is my top as well for now. I know this is an old vid and maybe you have a more recent vid changing this again but I'll ask are you still shooting gold? My only real issue is that locally I can only find the 24 exposure gold which is fine but those extra 12 shots make me reach for Superia more often than I'd like because I really do prefer gold for a everyday film.
Love Gold as well, the perfect film would be a Kodak Gold 400 😄
Fuji superia and much more r back including velvia in canada
Totally agree with a Kodak Gold 💛🤍 but last week I try fuji superia premium 400 it amaze me also by the way keep going bro✌🏻from Thailand.🇹🇭
I got six , 36 exposure rolls ready to go right now 📷
Hi KING, may i ask what do you scan your film with?
Kind Regards
How much is a roll of film in USA?
Kodak Gold was obscenely cheap here in Germany until recently. You could pick up a three-pack for 7.90 euros in a drugstore. Recently they've upped the prices to 18 euros, more than 100% increase. Still relatively cheap in comparison with other colour films but I feel a bit ripped off paying so much more than what I was paying just six months ago. Anyway, it's a film that has grown on me a bit because I didnt like it at first (it's pretty crap when it's not sunny). Still, I think I prefer Colorplus when it comes to cheaper Kodak.
It‘s 12.95 at DM, which is still not bad.
What’s a good film stock to shoot in The Philippines 🇵🇭? I’m going to Manila, Tacloban, Eastern Samar and Palawan.
I would not agree with the neutral look of kodak gold, that neutral look had Fuji 400 pro H with an extra coating but that's a whole different story. Personally, I love warmer tones by Kodak these are my all-time favourite
is it okay to use pro image 100 film for an ISO 200/400 camera?
I'm a newbie... Does fuji film camera comes with both Digital and Analog version???
Film is analog; digital is digital.
I really like Gold but overall prefer Ultramax it so good, but like a lot of things right now it's not always available.
Yo, i know this is out of topic but my rangefinder only allows me to shoot at 1/500 shutter speed, if I want to shoot 800 ASA is there anyway to compensate by adjusting the aperture or am I completely doomed?
Isn’t some of the fujifilm made in usa, actually kodak film, during the pandemic era?
Oh wow, in Germany a 3-Pack is 8€ 😱 everybody shoots it here. It recently went up to 13€ but is still a no brainer 😍
Yeah 8 euros was SO good. It's now like 17-18 in DM :(
Actually I see that it's 13 online. In store I've only seen it for around 18.
Last month I bought it at the DM store and it was 13€…
@@fIysohigh oh really? Every DM I’ve been in in Berlin (only about 3 stores) since the price rise it’s always been something like 17.90. Strange
I bought it last week in the drug store for 13
A lot of people start loving Gold. I can see that, when i check the prices lately. Sorry, but if i want to shoot in colour, i am going for my digital camera.
Dude today I was in a camera store here in the UK and they were selling fuji superia 400 for GBP 12.99 a roll! That's 17 DOLLARS!!!!
You said there's a ton of risks with aperture wide open and slow shutter speed - can you name a few?
I just purchased 3 triples of Kodak Gold for $18USD / triple pack with free delivery in Canada.
I was really expecting it to be ColorPlus. A'ight well Gold ain't too far off either. xD
