    This video is great I’m trying to install some on my 850 wagon. Do you know if I could use the OEM Volvo fog light plugs on the bottom of my car?? I would get the right relays and switches

      Awesome! Those plugs are specific to the foglamp itself. I'm sure you could cut the connector off and splice in wiring to connect to auxiliary lights provided the wattage of the bulb is the same, but I've never done something like that. Anytime I've wired up fog lights I've always done it using my own wiring.

    Can u help me? So I have a tower of switches inside my jeep. They all connect very cleanly to a bar inside my engine bay. (S-Pod). Can I just run the two wires from the lights direct to my spot poles + and - . Would that work without all the relay stuff?

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  3 роки тому

      I've never had the luxury of wiring up to an sPod, though I do know what you're talking about. To my knowledge you don't need a fuse or relay for this setup, as it's all taken care of in the built in wiring. I would double check for your specific application though, because I don't have first hand knowledge of your setup.

    How did you install the bracket on the bumper that you mounted the lights on??? I'm stumped with how to install my lightball bracket and have it nice and sturdy did you pull off the bumper cover??

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  2 роки тому

      I did pull off the bumper cover and confirmed that behind the license plate holes were little riv-nut type things to screw into. It wasn't your typical self tappers into a plastic bumper. I wouldn't want to screw the bracket to just plastic, but seeing as there was something else behind it, I felt ok to give it a shot. It's been on there for over 2 years and hasn't ripped out, so I think it's ok.
      If I didn't have those riv-nut things, I was going to drill through the bumper cover and attach the bracket to the bumper beam itself.

      @@StevesGarage Interesting okay that is really good to know so I'll pull my bumper cover off this coming weekend and see what's there for me to screw in to that isn't just the plastic bumper alone thank you for the info!

      @@StevesGarage So I got my light bar installed, I got a 12 inch long drill bit that's 3/8, drilled through the stock license plate holes all the way through the metal crossmember inside the bumper cover, stuck two 7 inch 3/8 bolts and bolted the bracket like that. Nice and sturdy!

    Hello, I've tried this exact setup on the same car. Nothing works?! I tried two oem fog light switches... Both are good. I'm grounding the switch under the dash.

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  4 роки тому +2

      If it's not working then you need to troubleshoot whats causing the issue. It might not just be the switch. Do you have a multimeter? You can use one to measure voltage to see where the power is being lost. You can also use the multimeter or a test light to check your grounds are good. This setup is the same idea as the wiring video I did on the Jetta and I haven't had issues with either one.

      @@StevesGarage thanks for the reply! I have a voltmeter that's somewhere missing right now... I'm wiring the Hellas on a V70 XC. Identical to the one in the video. I pulled the lights and tested them with a battery I had in storage and they worked. I've grounded the relay to the factory grounding point on the strut tower. And I've run the ground wires for the lights it's a negative terminal, and the ground wire for the relay as well. Yellow blue green into the Volvo Foglight switch, I grounded the switch to the metal brace under the dash on the side of the frame. I'll try and locate my volt meter.

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  4 роки тому +2

      @@SAFphilly Of course, I try to reply to everyone! Sounds like your wiring is solid. Try running the switch that comes with the Hella lights as a test. If it works with that, that indicates that the Volvo foglight switch is the culprit. Are you using the front foglight switch vs the rear foglight switch? Mine is wired to a rear fog switch, so maybe the wiring is different for a front fog switch? Not sure if you have an Instagram, but if you contact me on there, we might be able to share some photos and get this solved! Definitely want to help you getting your lights up and working!

    great video!
    What gauge wire did you upgrade the power to? What fuse would you recommend for a 4 light set up?
    I recently bought a '14 Subaru Crosstrek with 4 of these lights, but the previous owner never had them wired. I really want to use them, and want to avoid a short circuit as much as possible.
    Thanks again!

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  4 роки тому

      Thank you, and congrats on the car! Glad you're checking out this video even though you own a Crosstrek, my goal was to try and create a video that everyone can use to reference. I upgraded the wiring to 14 gauge, which is good up to 15 amps. Watts/Volts=Amps. So assuming the bulbs are 55 Watt, you're looking at a total of 220W/12V car battery for a total of 16.9 Amps. I'd probably go 12 gauge wire for that, with a 20 amp fuse.
      Let me know if you have any other questions, I definitely understand wanting to use the lights if they're mounted! I've had the lights on the car since April, and haven't had any issues with car washes, and rain, so I'm confident in the method I used.

    • @neverwonder
      @neverwonder 4 роки тому

      @@StevesGarage Thank you! You have the only video I can find on UA-cam that discusses installing more than 2 of these lights. It's incredibly comprehensive and incredibly useful!
      I found that 220W/12V would actually equal 18.3 Amps. Would you still recommend 12 gauge? and the 20 amp fuse?
      Also, did you only upgrade the black wiring from the lights? Would I need to upgrade any of the other wiring ( excluding the ground ).

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  4 роки тому

      That's exactly why I made it! Figured someone else out there must want to wire up more than 2 lights.
      Good check on my math, not sure what I did wrong there haha. You should still be fine with 12 gauge wire and a 20 amp fuse. I did upgrade the wiring to the lights since I ran one wire out and only split it close to the lights. Technically you could run 3 separate power wires of the stock size back to the relay, but I didn't want to that for complexity sake. I honestly wish I ran the single wire further, but it's something I didn't think about until it was all wired up.

      @@StevesGarage I appreciate you being so forward minded! I am definitely keeping the video for reference, and will recommend it to anyone I know who plans to have multiple lights on their light bar.
      I reread the wiring kit, and it includes a 30Amp fuse, So I should be okay ?
      Also, based on the wiring system ( its the Hella ValueFit Kit ) it looks like I'm going to have to attach 2 lights to each of the leads to the relay, to keep everything as simple as possible. I just hope the connector that attaches to each lead will hold up. I will definitely get some heat shrink to keep the connection strong though

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  4 роки тому

      @@neverwonder Thank you! The 30amp fuse should work fine. Terminal size may definitely be an issue with 12 gauge wiring, as that is a bit bigger than the standard wire. I suggest buying new ones and not re-using like I did, just because it's a pain and then you can also get the right size terminals. If you want, you can run one wire out of the relay, and then split that wire further down using a but connector, or whatever type of connection you want. I may have gone overboard with the heat shrink, but living in a winter state, and that wiring being low and on the front of the car, I don't want to take any chances. So far so good with rain and carwashes!

      You should be able to find them most places. Auto part stores definitely have them big box home improvement stores might, and if all else fails you can order a big box of them from Amazon.
