Got the kit, followed your instructions, and voila! 20 mins later, a tight, quiet hatch cover. I did break the latch bezel, sadly, but it was still worth it. Thank you!!

Thanks a lot for the video. I'm a happy "rattle-free" 850 owner once again! Second Volvo around. Sold the last one, a 940 2.3 aut state with 485.000 km on the clock and still driving everyday. GLT 2.5 20V 7-seater now. 330000 km on the clock, and just back from a 3500 kms summer holiday outing and not a single issue. Missus happy, kids love it. Love these cars!

Seriously love this. Thank you guys for giving me the opportunity to save me some money. I've been listening to this rattle on my 850 for years.

Many thanks for this. Very easy to fit. Think it took about 15-20 mins start to finish. I pre drilled the plastic before fitting the self tapping screws which made the job a lot easier. No trouble removing the latch surround, just ripped it off.

This is great. If you cut some small rectangular little wood chunks, that and some JB Weld, you can rebuild a much stronger base for the clip, and it wont breat, just FYI my car is on its 2nd repair of this, and was previously repaired with this same kit years ago, poorly.

I got all of the parts and the bone tool mentioned in the video. I then gently, gently, and ever so gently tried to pop the trim around the panel off - at least 5 minutes of attempting this and nothing was budging. Then the piece of trim just simply shattered. Nice idea, nicely done video and explanation, but wholly insufficient in letting people know the practical problems faced in doing this. Again, nice video and explanation, but not enough information on the DOs and DON'Ts.

Use a hair dryer on LOW heat setting to warm the plastic first. This plastic gets more brittle as it ages. Also use silicone spray or WD40 (and a red straw on the spray nozzle) to spray the clips before attempting removal. Wear a forehead headlamp (WalMart, $10) so you can make sure your spray is getting onto the clips. Also heat up your shop if possible.

Good top tip, but how do you fix that rattling dash?

Removing the interior latch plastic bezel is the hardest part of the job. For those who are struggling (as I did), here's a little more detail on how to do it...

My rear latch cover is on like GLUE. I removed the tailgate panel 10 years ago to fix the rattle, but don't remember it being this hard to remove.
Can someone please explain how many clips need to be released with and where are the approx. location of each clip.

OK the rear latch cover does not want to come off like in the video. I have the proper body tools but don't want to damage anything. Any tips?

Don't believe this job to be as easy as they make it sound. The handle surround can be a pig to get off and once you've got the trim off you have to use self drilling screws to secure the new metal clips. All I've managed to do is crack the plastic where the screw is supposed to go. Self drilling screws work well with wood but these fiddly little things do not work with plastic. I wish I hadn't wasted my money on this kit, the rattle wasn't so bad after all. :-(

Why wouldn't you show how you bent the aluminum sheets over the busted plastic? Or how much of a bear it is to get the top clips in position? It's a decent fix to an annoying problem.
