  • After 2 years, I was finally able to break my old world record. But I didn't just break it. I SMASHED IT.
    In the previous world record of 1:19, I only manipulated two or three shrines, and the remainder of the mages were luck based. Plus, I also fought Seto 2 and did the Final 6. This run aims to manipulate all 5 shrines in a row, skip Seto 2 and do the Final 7 instead, saving TONS of time.
    This run was very, very good. But I'm FAR from done yet. Sub 1:10, here I come! -- Watch live at / gfc_

    • @GFC_FM
      @GFC_FM  5 років тому +19

      @@AKDHFR no, I didn't use Python in this run. I didn't use any programs or anything, just the normal, unmodified game itself.
      I /DID/ use a Python script to create the ROUTE/STRATEGIES for the speedrun.
      There's a Python script that basically simulates thousands of duels per second and tells me in a big spreadsheet exactly what card I'll win on each frame. When creating the route for this speedrun, I ran that simulation and figured out which frames have Meteor B. Dragon as a drop. Then I figured out how to hit that frame during speedruns, then I practiced it a lot, and then I performed it during the speedrun.

    Does anyone know why at 43:51 he attacks with his 300 monster first then his 4000 when his 4000 would have just ended the duel?? Isn't that just a time waste??

    • @GFC_FM
      @GFC_FM  2 роки тому +1

      It was RNG manipulation. This entire run, I'm taking actions during the duels that manipulate the game into giving me favorable outcomes.
      In that particular duel, I had to attack with a card with less than 1000 attack in order to manipulate the luck in my favor.
      If you're playing the game normally, you would never do this, as it would indeed lose time.
      But in this run, every single action I take has been meticulously planned out by looking at the game's code and figuring out the outcomes ahead of time.
      Once you know the outcomes ahead of time, you just have to perform them properly, which is easier said than done but is possible, hence this run.

    I just watched the current any% wr and some things looked a little weird to me, I've never seen anything like it before. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on them.
    At 59:45 during an attack, the screen completely fades out.
    At 1:02:05 when the opponents zoa attacks GFC's thtd the card art for thtd is distorted and the name reads as skull knight.
    What causes things like this?

    • @GFC_FM
      @GFC_FM  4 роки тому +1

      1.) The screen fading out is because I activated a 3D duel and then immediately cancelled out of it. If you attack by pressing the square button instead of the usual X button, it triggers a 3D duel. The screen fades to black and then the 3D duel plays out, then the screen fades back to black and you're brought back to the usual duel screen. However, you can cancel out of a 3D duel at any time by pressing circle. So, I initiated a 3D duel, and then immediately pressed circle to cancel out of it. I did a 3D duel at all for RNG manipulation. 3D duels change what card you win at the end of the duel, and doing one at that time was required for me to win the card I wanted.
      2.) That is a common graphical glitch that happens most often when playing on a real Playstation 2 with "fast disc speed" turned on in the settings menu of the PS2. The glitch basically happens due to a loading error. The glitch will incorrectly load the art of the card, and will try combining it with whatever the last card shown on screen was. In this case, the last card on screen was Skull Knight, so when the glitch happened, the game basically combined the card art for THTD and Skull Knight. I don't know the exact technical reasons as to why this happens, only that it's related to the game loading the art incorrectly. However, the glitch is purely graphical, and does not actually change how the cards work or what the stats of the card are. So, for example, when that THTD glitched and the name read as Skull Knight, it was purely graphical, and the card still functioned like a normal THTD, just with messed up card art/graphics.

      He waited for a specific set of frames to start the game on. This is called RNG Manipulation. Basically, the game's "randomness" is the same every time. If you do the exact same thing every time, you'll get the same results. People found that starting on that specific period of frames gives you the best starting deck.
      There's videos out there that go into more detail, but this is the gist of it.

    • @cr103
      @cr103 5 років тому +1

      59:45 and how come it fades out here during an attack?

    • @GFC_FM
      @GFC_FM  5 років тому +9

      1.) That's a common graphical glitch that happens when you play Forbidden Memories on console, specifically common when you play it on a PlayStation 2 with the setting "fast disc speed" turned on. That's how I play (mainly because fast disc speed makes the game load faster). Basically, what happens is that the game can't keep up with loading the new card art, so it glitches out and accidentally shows the last card art that was loaded (in this case, the card art for Skull Knight). If the card that was played before my twin headed was a Blue Eyes White Dragon instead of a Skull Knight, then it would've glitched to look like that instead. Sometimes it just flat out loads the previous card art entirely, and sometimes it tries to load the twin headed card art AND the skull knight card art at the same time, resulting in a weird glitchy combination mess, which is what we saw in this case.
      2.) Are you asking why the opponent put a card in attack mode but didn't attack? That would be because it knew it couldn't beat my monster. It didn't go into defense mode because it has a base attack of 3000 or more. ANY card that the AI plays with an attack of 3000 or more will always stay in attack mode. Keep in mind I'm saying BASE attack of 3000, so equips and field advantages do not count. For example, if a Metalzoa is played by the AI, they will ALWAYS keep it in attack mode, regardless of the field, because the base attack is 3000+.
      Hope that answers your questions!

    • @GFC_FM
      @GFC_FM  5 років тому +4

      Oh, I want to add something on to my answer for #1 here:
      I want to add that it's just a GRAPHICAL glitch. The actual graphic/art of the card is what's glitching out here, nothing actually changes. The attack, the defense, the type: everything is still the exact same when this glitch happens, the only thing that is actually changing is the appearance of the card. So this random glitch can't actually help or hurt you in a duel, it just looks cool sometimes.
      I also wanna note that how often this graphical glitch happens also seems to depend on how scratched up your disc is and things like that. But everyone who plays on a PS2 with fast disc speed gets it pretty often regardless. People have had it happen on emulator I believe, but it's FAR less common. I'm not sure about playing on a PS1 but I'd imagine it happens there too, maybe less commonly because PS1 doesn't have fast disc speed but idk.

      @@cr103 OH. My bad LMFAO.
      That was actually a 3D duel that I instantly canceled out of.
      You know how if you press Square when attacking, it will show the monsters in 3D model form attacking each other? I did that, but as soon as the 3D battle started, I immediately canceled out of it. This was for RNG manipulation purposes. 3D duels change the outcome of the duel, basically. And canceling out of the 3D duel at different times affects the duel differently. It just so happens that, for that particular manipulation, I had to initiate the 3D duel and then cancel it immediately.
      There's a more complicated answer as to why this was needed for the RNG manipulation, but I'll leave it at that. If you're interested in the more complicated answer, read the next comment I'll leave in a minute or two.

    i dont understand.
    1) why did you reset the game when you saved at 4:42?
    2) your starting deck is incredible. you can make thtd whereas i had to grind hard for those dragons and thunders
    3) you estimated beating Heishin and getting 3x MBD in like 10 mins. how the hell did you know?

    • @GFC_FM
      @GFC_FM  4 роки тому +19

      1.) This was to reset the frame count of the game back to 0. This speedrun uses RNG manipulation. Basically, this game runs at 60 frames per second. This means, once you turn on the console, the game starts keeping track of a number. That number starts at 0 and goes up by 60 every second. For example, 2 seconds after you turn on the console, the frame count is at 120. One second later, it's at 180, and so on. Forbidden Memories uses this number to determine what card you win at the end of the duel. For example, if you start a duel on frame 1000, you might win Meteor B. Dragon. Now, if you reset the console, that puts the frame counter back to 0. Now, if you start a duel on frame 1000 AGAIN, you'll win Meteor B. Dragon AGAIN. You're basically getting the exact same duel over and over again. And we reset the console so we can hit the same frame number over and over again. It's basically just starting a duel at the right time to get the outcome we want. It isn't a glitch either. This is exactly how the game is intended to work. Normally, if you play the game without knowing about this (which most people do), using this system makes the game APPEAR random. It makes the card you win APPEAR random. But it isn't TRULY random, and you can take advantage of that. But it's INCREDIBLY difficult. Remember, the game runs at 60 frames per second. That means if MBD drops on frame 1000, for example, that you WON'T win MBD on frame 999 or 1001. That means if you're 1/60th of a second early or late, you won't win MBD. So, it takes a TON of practice to be able to hit it consistently like I did in this speedrun. And even with all of that practice, I still fail it more often than not. This was my best run ever, but it doesn't show you the hundreds of hours of failed attempts and practice it took to get to this point. It's not easy.
      2.) The starting deck is also obtained using RNG manipulation. It's the same thing as the card drops, except it's determined by the frame you start a new game on. So, if you start a new game on frame 1000, you'll get the same starting deck every single time. Once we knew that, we looked through thousands and thousands of starting decks on every frame. The deck you see here is the best starting deck we found that didn't require waiting very long for the frame count to get very high. It's on frame 711. So, if you turned on Forbidden Memories right now, and you started a new game on frame 711, you would get the EXACT SAME starting deck I did here. Maybe you'll start the game on frame 711 by accident. Or, you can AIM for it, like I do in this speedrun.
      3.) RNG manipulation, see number 1 in this post.
      I made a video describing exactly how all of this works. Check my channel for a video called "Win any card you want".
      It isn't a glitch, it isn't a hack, it isn't a cheat. This was how the developers coded the game INTENTIONALLY. It's just that the common player typically won't notice this, and it will just appear random to them. But it isn't random. And I use that to my advantage in this speedrun. Is it hard? Yes. Is it harder than playing the game normally? Yes, much harder, because when playing the game normally, your timing doesn't matter, but in this speedrun, if I'm 1/60th of a second off with my timing, the run is over. And trust me, it took hundreds and hundreds of hours to get this speedrun. And hundreds of hours more researching the game and how all of this works. It isn't easy. But, I did it, and I'm super happy to show this run off, as it shows a complete mastery of the game and how it works, inside and out.
      Hope that helps!

    • @GFC_FM
      @GFC_FM  5 років тому

      That's a common graphical glitch that happens when you play Forbidden Memories on console, specifically common when you play it on a PlayStation 2 with the setting "fast disc speed" turned on.

      En caso de que no te manejes bien con el inglés te lo explicaré a grandes rasgos
      El juego funciona con un número de "semilla", este número comienza a correr cuando comienzas el juego y aumenta 1 por cada frame, es decir que al cargar el juego el número comienza en 0 y aumenta en 60 cada 1 segundo, este número de "semilla" decide todo lo que pasa en el duelo, las cartas que tu sacas, las cartas que tu oponente jugará y la carta que ganarás al final del duelo.
      Usando un script se consiguió simular miles y miles de duelos posibles, con esto se pudo reconocer cuales eran los duelos más "favorables" para obtener ciertas cartas, y en base a eso se creó una estrategia para poder hacer la run.
      1)Lo primero es el duelo, supongamos que quieres el Meteor B. Dragon que da Heishin, gracias a la investigación que mencioné anteriormente se pudo descubrir que existen 100 frames posibles en los que Heishin te dará el MBD, supongamos que eliges el frame 1000, esto quiere decir que si cargas el juego y entras a un duelo con Heishin en el frame 1000 obtendrás el MBD, si reinicias el juego el número volverá a partir de 0, por lo que puedes volver a entrar al duelo contra Heishin en el frame 1000 y ganarás DE NUEVO el MBD, puedes hacerlo infinitas veces ya que este juego no es random, todo está decidido por ese número de "semilla", aunque suene fácil en realidad no lo es, ya que si bien ganarás el MBD si inicias en el frame 1000, si inicias en el 999 o en el 1001 no lo ganarás, es decir que si eres 1/60 de segundo muy rápido o muy lento no le apuntarás al frame necesario y no obtendrás la carta que buscas, es importante saber que este número sigue subiendo infinitamente hasta que apagues el juego, por eso en la speedrun GFC resetea la consola para devolver el número semilla a 0
      2)Cómo sabe el speedrunner en qué frame está? fácil, para eso está su deck, el número de semilla como mencioné decide que cartas sacarás en tu primer turno, la forma en que lo hace es que dice por ejemplo: "si inicias el duelo en el frame 1000, sacarás cualquier carta que esté en el espacio 5, 8, 12, 24, y 33", por eso es importante el cambiar el orden de tu deck antes de entrar al duelo, ya que si ordenas el deck por DEF la carta n° 5 no será la misma que si ordenas el deck por ATK, esto permite que el speedrunner pueda por ejemplo iniciar un duelo en el frame 1000 y que en la primera mano le salgan todos los materiales para fusionar al THTD (el dragón de 2800)
      3)Durante los duelos, el número "semilla" deja de aumentar con el tiempo y en lugar de eso aumenta según las acciones que hagas en el duelo (duelos 3D cancelados rápidamente, interacción de guardian star (cuando atacas o te ataca un monstruo de un símbolo diferente y el ATK aumenta o disminuye en 500), cartas que te destruye tu enemigo, daño directo mayor a 1000 puntos, daño directo menor a 1000 puntos, cada fusión y cada fusión errónea (son las fusiones de monstruos que no se pueden fusionar, por lo que simplemente "botas" uno de los monstruos)), cada una de esas acciones aumenta el número semilla en una cantidad exacta, por lo que si entras a un duelo 100 veces en el mismo frame, y repites 100 veces las mismas acciones, recibirás 100 veces la misma carta, esto es importante ya que la carta que ganas se decide por el número de semilla FINAL, con el que terminaste el duelo, no con el que iniciaste, el iniciar el duelo en un frame específico es simplemente para facilitar el terminar el duelo en el número de semilla exacto que necesitas
      Entonces, como aplicamos todo eso: mediante un script los speedrunners consiguieron simular prácticamente todos los duelos posibles mediante ciertos parámetros definidos, por lo que mediante dicha información sabrás que al entrar a un duelo con el duelista que elegiste en el frame X tendrás la información de cuales serán las primeras 15 cartas que sacarás, las 2 primeras cartas que jugará tu oponente y en qué guardian star las jugará, y además que si haces el duelo con las acciones que predeterminaste al ejecutar el script obtendrás la carta que ahí dice, con toda esa información puedes por ejemplo, basándote en tus primeras 5 cartas saber si conseguiste entrar al duelo en el frame deseado o no, y a partir de ahí ejecutar el duelo como planeabas para obtener el drop
      En el script lo que haces es "simular un duelo", por ejemplo pones como va a ser el duelo, por ejemplo pones que el duelo durará 4 turnos, y que en esos turnos harás 3 fusiones y 4 ataques directos, con eso el script te generará todas las combinaciones posibles para cada drop del rival que elegiste, con su respectivo frame, por lo que el script te dirá que si inicias el duelo contra tu oponente en el frame 500 y haces el duelo tal cual lo pusiste (dura 4 turnos, haces 3 fusiones y haces 4 ataques directos) te dropeará la carta que dice en el script, ESTO ES 100% SEGURO, es como está programado el juego, por lo que es 100% certero
      Te daré un ejemplo completo en caso de que aún sea difícil de comprender, hiciste correr el script y pusiste a Heishin, y pusiste que tu duelo iba a durar 3 turnos, ibas a hacer 1 fusión fallida, 6 fusiones y 3 ataques directos, y buscaste en el script en cuál frame Heishin te dropeaba el MBD, supongamos que el duelo contra Heishin comienza en el frame 1000, hacer una fusión aumenta el número semilla en 100, una fusión fallida aumenta el número en 50 y un ataque directo de más de 1000 puntos aumenta el número en 200. Como dato adicional el Meteor B. Dragon se dropeará si el duelo termina en el frame 2250, empezamos:
      -1er turno, ves tus 5 cartas y te das cuenta que si estás en el frame 1000, por lo que comienzas haciendo una fusión errónea seguida de 2 fusiones buenas para hacer el dragón de 2800 (un dragón débil con uno de piedra para hacer el dragón de 2000 de ATK y luego ese dragón con uno de trueno para hacer el dragón de 2800 de ATK, eso cuenta como 2 fusiones), el frame comenzó en 1000, 1 fusión errónea + 2 fusiones, el frame ahora está en 1250
      -turno oponente, juega una carta boca abajo en defensa (en tu script tu ya viste que carta es, y sabes que la puedes derrotar, de lo contrario elegirías otro frame en el que el oponente juegue una carta que si puedas derrotar)
      -2do turno, haces 2 fusiones más para hacer otro dragón de 2800, con uno de los dragones atacas a su monstruo boca abajo y lo destruyes, con el otro atacas los puntos de vida directamente, ahora tu oponente le quedan 5200 puntos de vida. El número semilla iba en 1250, 2 fusiones + 1 ataque directo, ahora el número está en 1650
      -turno oponente, el oponente vuelve a jugar una carta boca abajo (que de nuevo, sabes cual es ya que salía en el script)
      -3er turno, haces 2 fusiones más para otro dragón de 2800 (por esto es tan importante el punto 2), el script te dirá la posición de la carta que sacarás, la posición 1, 10, 15, etc. por lo que si en el scripts ves los números de las cartas que vas a sacar puedes ordenar tu deck para poner en esos lugares las cartas que tu quieras), con un dragón le destruyes su monstruo y con los otros 2 dragones atacas directamente y ganas el duelo. El número estaba en 1650, 2 fusiones + 2 ataques directos, el número está ahora en 2250, felicidades, obtuviste un Meteor B. Dragon.
      Así es como funciona el juego internamente, todos estos cálculos son posibles hacerlos por una persona mediante ensayo y error, el script simplemente acelera el proceso y te permite analizar cual es la forma más fácil de obtener las cartas que quieres, eso es la manipulación de RNG
      Como dato el script es inútil en una speedrun, me refiero a en el momento en que se está haciendo, ya que es lentísimo, perdería muchísimo tiempo buscando el mejor frame, etc. el script se usa para estudiar los mejores duelos posibles y tratar de trazar una estrategia para llevarlos a cabo, luego de eso es solo practicar mucho para poder llevarlo a cabo
      Sé que dije que lo explicaría a groso modo, pero terminé alargándome muuuuucho, pero bueno, ahí está.

    How come he resets the game after he saves? Does something different happen when you save?

      I'm resetting the game in these cases so that the frame count goes back to 0. Basically, for the rng manipulation I'm doing, I need to start some duels on the correct frame. However, the frame count starts going up the moment I turn on the console. So let's say I want to hit frame 700 against Heishin 1 in free duel to win MBD. Well, first I have to sit through all of the cutscenes right before the world tournament. That makes the frame count go way beyond 700. So, once I can save, I save, then I reset the console. This brings the frame count back down to 0, and now I can aim for frame 700 again. And, if I fail the manipulation and want to try again, since frame 700 has already passed, I have to reset the console to get it back to 0 and then try for frame 700 again.
      So, in short, I'm resetting the console to reset the frame count back to 0.
