Honestly don’t mind having less enemies if their AI is good. The OG Halo games has 3 repetitive enemies, but the AI was so good that it didn’t matter. I wish more developers understood this.
Actually having less emeny types while keeping the variety of weapons is good to me. In some games they will claim to have a lot of types of enemies and weapons while the player is only supposed to change to a certain weapon while encountering certain type of enemy and that's what I would consider "fake variety". Instead of that I would rather have a game with enemies that has mostly aesthetic difference, while all of my 16 interesting weapons can be used towards most of them.
@@sunessetham627 The problem (for some people) with that is that there isn't any incentive to use any weapons beyond the one or two that you need. Like Charlie said, he only used two, maybe three weapons for the majority of the story. Not much point to having 16 guns in the game if you don't need them. That's where AI and enemy abilities come into play. If enemies are versatile enough to adapt to a weapon or playstyle, then there is ample cause to switch weapons, and is usually a player's first instinct when their initial plan is thwarted.
@@AbsoluteMongoloid Then I guess it's just personal preference that I'm more into this type of weapon system. In my first playthrough of 13hrs, I managed to maxed out 6 weapons without intentional grinding. (Pea shooter, shotgun, sprinkler, scatter bomb, sniper and rocket launcher. I've played it in another language so I don't know what they are called in English but you know what I mean), as well as a couple other weapons that are in level 3 or 4. I'm not sure if that number is high or low, but what I'm sure is despite the weapons I purchased after the final boss, there were only like two or three guns that I didn't use as much during the playthrough. When I know that the player can upgrade their weapons even further in NG+ I was stunned. Also, like Charlie I played on highest difficulty as well, but I actually found that this game encourages you to use different weapons based on factors like enemy arrangement and position, map layout, player health etc. (rather than solely used against certain enemy types like some other games). Therefore subjectively speaking, I think the variety issue isn't that bad.
@@sunessetham627 The debate of weapons being required vs encouraged is an old one, but there is no arguing that repetition is boring, and that using the same weapon(s) on the same enemy is very repetitive. Besides, why should Ratchet be the only one with an interesting amount of variety? Even in the hotly contested games, such as Deadlocked, there were enemies exclusive to some worlds, such as Leviathans and Pincer Rays. The Devs intentionally not giving worlds that sort of "living personality" via new enemy encounters is pure laziness imo. Think about it. I say Aridia, you think Sandsharks. When I say Catacrom 4, you think of Robot Zombies. Exotic enemies are iconic, engaging, and give you something fresh, even if you are the type to stick to only a few weapons. Removing them made the game lose a good amount of appeal, but I'm sure modders could work around that easily. I might just buy the game anyway, since it seems generally good in other ways. A word to OP: R&C AI isn't nearly on Halo levels.
@@AbsoluteMongoloid this has been the case in every single ratchet game but the first one. In Ratchet 2 you can literally just spam the bouncer the whole game. These games let you decide what you want to use and doesn't make it too difficult. You can't expect ratchet to be like Doom Eternal in which weapon switching is necessary.
I am absolutely in love with this game. It makes me feel like I'm a little kid again, and it's so much fun to play. I've been obsessed with this franchise ever since the first game and Rift Apart is definitely in my top 5 or even top 3.

I’ve waited for this one so badly hehe I’m so excited to see what he says about it! Edit: alright fair criticism, I respect it. That's because Ratchet had a different voice actor. I didn't know this at first, but apparently the guy who voiced ratchet in the first game voiced one of the ninja turtles in one of the animated series. Mike kelly or something like that, you can look him up if you want.
That's cause in the ps2 days he was an edgy shirtless chad that eventually learned to give a shit about people exploding, not a cringy insecure nerd. They rebranded to better appeal to their audience
1:04 yes exactly my reaction throughout the entire game. Based on the aesthetics alone this might be one of my favorite games ever. Also I’m an old school retro gamer and this one definitely took me back to the days when games were much simpler and fun.

The third game did just reskin the most abundant enemies towards the end of it, but in the developer podcast Anthony Garcia said it was a miracle the game was completed as they were running out of time with development. Also the focus on fighting was there due to majority of people just wanting it (his words).

Both have really nice graphics but death stranding definitely goes for more of a realistic vibe but I like this more cartoonish vibe more because everything feels more alive
I'm glad that Doom Eternal's lasting effect on the game industry is getting everyone to scrutinize weapon incentivization and enemy variety in other games Too many games just don't really push you out of your comfort weapons and tools and expect you to kill normal man, big man, small man, sneaky man, and shield man for the entire game Not that other games haven't done that as well, Eternal just had that wider market appeal.
@@worldkat1393 Not even to say it hasn’t, but I’m assuming this specific game has enough of an issue that a modern eye sees it immediately. I mostly played the first two games and do remember that even on a planet to planet basis there was a ton of enemy types
@@razordoom1 There were yes. The original trilogy focused on a world by world narrative, this game focuses on a key set of enemies but yes in terms of enemy types this game was lacking.
My only mistake is not listening to charlie sooner.
What?
I remember being so hyped for this game, and the graphics actually look better than I expected!

I am absolutely in love with this game. It makes me feel like I'm a little kid again, and it's so much fun to play. I've been obsessed with this franchise ever since the first game and Rift Apart is definitely in my top 5 or even top 3.
This game made me feel like I was playing ratchet and clank going commando all over again, it really gave the franchise the jump start it needed
It is a good time to be a Ratchet and Clank fan! The pure vindication from having your newest installment be the best looking video game of all time while also being critically acclaimed is a wonderful feeling!
Currently in the process of playing the 2015 R&C, and this looks like an amazing sequel.
It's from 2016 and i think it's the weakest (in plot at least) but it's pretty enjoyable

That's because Ratchet had a different voice actor.

1:04 yes exactly my reaction throughout the entire game. Based on the aesthetics alone this might be one of my favorite games ever. Also I’m an old school retro gamer and this one definitely took me back to the days when games were much simpler and fun.
Ratchet and Clank is my favorite Playstation franchise ever, from the fun chaotic ps2 games to the more serious (story wise) playstation 3 games, I really can't get enough of them. The lack of enemy variety has been a problem in the saga since the 3rd game which is...a little bit dissapointing but still, this game looks like a ton of fucking fun
The third game did just reskin the most abundant enemies towards the end of it, but in the developer podcast Anthony Garcia said it was a miracle the game was completed as they were running out of time with development. Also the focus on fighting was there due to majority of people just wanting it (his words).
My only gripes is the weapons, enemies and no skill points. Nice to see gold bolts back. Theres only really two types of enemies and the weapons arent as great as the classics, especially upgrading imo.
@@I_THE_ME yeah, pretty funny how the most popular game of the franchise is the one they thought was gonna flop
also, adding a new crate for a bottle of beer is my favourite reason to add a game feature, ever.
They manage to make great games for everyone to enjoy while primarily trying to appeal to a young audience.
Truly a skill
Ratchet and Clank has always been really good at visuals
Play the game on one of the harder difficulties, you will HAVE to switch your weapons up, if only because you run out of ammo completely

Nothin will beat going commando, up your arsenal and deadlocked
Deadlocked is not talked enough about imo, fantastic game
Death Stranding is up there with the visuals. No fancy lights, but good detail
Both have really nice graphics but death stranding definitely goes for more of a realistic vibe but I like this more cartoonish vibe more because everything feels more alive
Nowadays , we're so often scared that great looking games may become another Anthem...
But that is so refreshing.

The Sly Cooper and Jak & Daxter Easter egg was the cherry on top of this game 😂 P.S Sony animates Sly better than Sanzaru did 😂
I'm glad that Doom Eternal's lasting effect on the game industry is getting everyone to scrutinize weapon incentivization and enemy variety in other games
Too many games just don't really push you out of your comfort weapons and tools and expect you to kill normal man, big man, small man, sneaky man, and shield man for the entire game
Not that other games haven't done that as well, Eternal just had that wider market appeal.
This has also been a strength of this franchise though.
This franchise did it before doom eternal was even a concept bruv
@@worldkat1393 Not even to say it hasn’t, but I’m assuming this specific game has enough of an issue that a modern eye sees it immediately. I mostly played the first two games and do remember that even on a planet to planet basis there was a ton of enemy types
What bro? Plenty of games had weapon incentivization before hand, and some are much more popular than doom. Borderlands is one of them.
@@razordoom1 There were yes. The original trilogy focused on a world by world narrative, this game focuses on a key set of enemies but yes in terms of enemy types this game was lacking. The AI etc was handled pretty well and hopefully will act as a solid basis for more enemy types in the next title as this is main issue raised about the title.

Insomniac games bringing bangers. Spiderman was amazing and now Rachet n clank.
DF did a deep dive with the lead engine head over at Insomniac. Yes they are able to unload and load the entire memory buffer of an entire scene within 1 second. It was so fast they actually had to redo the main engine to actually be able to keep up with all the data coming in lol. It was just too much for the old engine to handle.
He also stated that they are excited to jump into the world of real-time GI lighting and ditch the old baked method because it costs so much money and takes so much time to do baked lighting. I'm sure teams across the world are saying the same things.
