His musicality, sense of style, endless versatility, technical virtuosity....and of course originality. Listen to him for 10 seconds and you always know it is him. Perfect player.
Danny Gatton & Funhouse: Danny Gatton (guitar), John Previti (bass), Billy Windsor (vocals, rhythm guitar), Dave Elliott (drums), Bruce Swaim & Phil Berlin (tenor sax), Chris Battistone (trumpet)
I was at this show, right in front of Danny. It was like a nuclear bomb of guitar virtuosity going off whose musical radiation mutated you for all time. An absolutely mind altering experience for any guitarist.
Tremendous! Perfect watching and listening anytime but with a cold, on a cold end of the year weekend just what the doctor ordered... Thanks for posting !
@@ellisduncan4035 I sure wish I'd been able to see Danny in concert. It sounds like you were lucky enough to have the pleasure. Fortunately, there's lots of great footage here on UA-cam, even if it's not quite the same as being there in person. Seriously, such a killer band! I checked out Donnie Bell you mentioned - he's put the hours in, hasn't he? Good stuff! Whereabouts in the world is he (and presumably also yourself) based? Here's one I was involved in a couple of years ago: ua-cam.com/video/dIklnGmwwf4/v-deo.html
You are absolutely right! I can imagine hime doing what other players could do, but I can’t imagine them doing what he could do, if that makes sense. 😁
I'd heard of Danny many times during my life. For whatever reason, I never listened to any of his music. Then when I heard Joe Bona who (lol) saying what a big influence and help Danny was to him, I knew I had to listen. He was one heck of a gifted player to say the very least. Anyone hwo was an influence to Joe B is someone I have to listen to in depth. Joe's my favorite player of all time, and I'm an OLD man. Thanks for this incredible upload, I really appreciate you for uploading such a rare treasure. Cheers
Definitely a gem here. Danny as usual and those great horn arrangements. What an interesting case Gatton is. Record companies couldn't figure out how to market him which seemed to do him in.
Excellent band and what else can be said about Danny... I don't know why this old guy keeps trying... I envision waking up some morning and my hands will work like Danny's...
@@vincentl.9469 I’ve noticed that, as well. He had working man’s hands. Used to work on old cars - his other passion. His hands must have been incredibly strong.

Have you seen the videos that Warren K uploaded: ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=%22danny+gatton%22+%22warren+k%22 ? Or Danny's gig at a Holiday Inn: ua-cam.com/video/-KmikNdhEWA/v-deo.html ? Or at the Taste of DC: ua-cam.com/video/X4oagZnQHpc/v-deo.html ? There are a lot of Danny's videos out there; it just takes digging (pun intended) to find them.
Just when I thought I had heard every note that remains of Danny's great playing, I found this today and I am mesmerized again.
So sad the guitar world lost this guy .. what a talent!

Such an amazing performance by the humbler
1 hour 55 minutes and 27 seconds of sheer Gatton & Funhouse awesomeness. Thanks a lot Ellis Duncan !
Elie Kleiman yes, a wonderful performance and amazing evening all around. Enjoy!
Such God given talent what a blessing to watch and hear
He was without a doubt a Master, incredible playing it's hard to imagine how someone can play like that ……….

I was there too…do you remember him bringing up a little kid to shred?
Amazing music, thanks for uploading this, there's only one DG
this guy was one of the best too bad he was gone so young
As a guitar player, when I heard of Danny’s death, I sank into a real and prolonged musical depression! Dang, I really miss you Danny! RIP ❤❤
The solos on the Elvis medley are sublime and this is the first time I have heard this version of them.
Terrific stuff thanks for posting i havnt seen before what a muso ❤
Thanks for uploading this!!! Danny Gatton!!!

Thank you so much I wonder one day I will have seen all there is to see of Danny, but along comes this treat!
This is incredible. What a band! Thanks for posting such great footage. It must have been one hell of a gig for those in the audience.
Yes, it was but they all were!
So happy that you enjoy it. I have been inspired by young Donnie Bell, and his worship of all things Gatton!

This guy was on a whole other level.

Danny absolutely killing it. The left hand will mesmerize you but the magic comes from his right hand IMO
Awesome!

talking of hands...his fingers were chunky and not very long but he still managed to be dexterous

Danny Gatton's virtuosity reminds me so much of Frank Gambale lightning style. Kinda effortless playing but destroying the poor thing. Just me?
NICE!
1:39:51 starts an interesting take on Sugarfoot Rag
followed by I am a Pilgrim - quite jazzy
Can we get a set list?
Anyone know the rig in this??
..Was that Kim Mitchell introducing them??
Mike T. Kerr nope, my buddy Patrick “BlueFox”, who I hired a lot to roadie for bands I managed. I wish I knew where he was these days!
