Had a Puch Maxi 1.5 as a kid. I actually found it out on a curb with the trash. It was like new looking. Carb was majorly gummed up. Rebuilt the carb and rode it everywhere throughout my teenage years. You just couldn't kill this thing. It ran even in the coldest weather. Sold it to some random guy when I started driving and bought a car. I wish I still had it, my son would have loved it!

I bought a 1982 POOCH in 2008-ish with 600 miles on it that was sitting in a tool shed for about 25 years. I installed used tires, air filter, gasoline hose, washed it, changed gear oil, checked the tank and chain, mixed some gasoline and started it up. Later got a $20 carb set by a lawnmower guy. 40mph for $120 total in for a 2 speed auto moped...

i owned one of these when i was a kid, they are so easy to take apart and repair. us cool kids removed the peddles, and just ran to turn it on!.
PS you can not break a puch, they have so few moving parts. that it will always run!.
and i do not think that is the original exhaust!, the original one had a bevel on the end of it, didnt it,, its been 20 years since i last seen one or worked on one.
this brought back many good memories me as a 16 year old with my 1st GF on the back going to the beach. i even bought her a special buddy seat for the back.
PS PS you can make that thing go 50-60 miles per hour, if you want, just use a different exhaust, diffrent cog on the rear wheel, a better/bigger carb, the problem is..breaks!.. the breaks need to be buffed up- too, because they are not made to go that fast!

I had a Honda moped. It was great for short tip and even ling runs. The half galleon tank gave you about 70 mile range. I carried a litre bottle for long trips and just topped it when the tank went on to reserve. The only trouble was steep hills and windy weather. Got blown onto other side of road into on coming traffic and pissed my self is shock .

That had mopeds and we tricked them out to do about 60-70 miles an hour.(far from stock, bored out, stroked ported, big carb, trick clutch and geared.) They were way illegal. I still have mine. 70cc,2:1 gearing trick clutch and 21mm Dell' orto carb.

Your knowledges of the mechanic are so much that you probably won't need much of that manual book unless you need the exact name of the missing/brokn part that you need to order. And i am not sure you even need that. You are kind like my father in making/repairing guitar, violins or any music wooden instruments, he can repair any instrument, creating pieces for the instrument as needed from scratch and even created tools to make those pieces. That's why i enjoy watching your videos that much. You might not be the certified technician, but you probably are one of the best guys out there to fix any kind of problem that we can rely on. You are also almost the exact same kind ofperson as my dad was, he wasn't big on polishing talks nor very polite when he is working, however, he almost always finished fixing stuffs once he started it. You are too, not big talk but you deliver the result, thats the most important thing in this new modern society, lot of big talkers but not enough doers and certainly, lot less finisher.

Sixty five years ago I had a moped " mobilette" and I travelled with it from Chatham to Newcastle upon Tyne quite often taking about 15 hours non stop driving. I had a Puch Maxi, a sort of hand me down from my brother who bought it new in 1978 - I got it from him in 1981...it was burgundy and beautiful and we had it 15 years with no issues besides regular maintenance (it is a 2 stroke, after all). His best friend bought the model you have in the video, even the same color. There were 4 more in my neighborhood, all Puchs, all essentially similar - they were just really well built, and I wish I still had mine.

So much fun to watch this one, these were very cool when I was 16. I still have mine from 84, bought 2nd hand in 87. And of cource make them run faster. It was a hard job to get them above 100km/h. This meant we had the carburator of of it a lot. You can turn it towards you and pull it off. The cable can be pressed into to throttle bushing and then moved out. In the best days we ran these with 70CC and a carb from an old 80cc Zundap. Of cource bigger exhaust and even drill out the ports in the engine housing so it could breath more. Sometimes running this above 14.000 RPM, wich meant we had total engine failures alot. about every 6 to 8 months, I had a spare, totally redone engine waiting for the running one to explode. Very easy engines to work on, parts where very available and cheapish. Had a lot of fun with these. Still have mine, did a total restauration in the 90ies, but it is rotting again in my garage! There were 2 speed Puch Macho's, but my Maxi was just one speed with a big wet slipperclutch.

hi mustie1 love the video and just had to come in and comment on this one, you were right when you said puch but I would think there are many different ways to say it. This brought back many memory's for me as this was the first bike I bought with my first wage packet when I first got my learners license back 33-34 years ago, I would just like to say that I did progress up the ladder all the way to large passenger vehicle's and large goods vehicle's sothis little moped gave me a good start on the road. keep up the great work

I had a PUCH myself. Almost completely the same as I did have. Choke down is on and it comes up when you hit the gas a couple of times. Greets from the Netherlands. Jur

Finally got around to watching this particular video. The scene where Mustie goes to blow and test both sides of the carb gave me a chuckle. At first, I thought he was kissing the carb....

Had a lot of Puch mopeds. Maxi, Newport, Magnum, E50 and ZA50, Sears Free Spirit and JC Penny Pinto, made by Puch/Kromag. Also had a Peugeot 103, Moby 50V, Bianchi, Garelli, and Tomos. The worst things about Puch mopeds are those Bing carbs and the white plastic junction blocks. The screws in those always stripped out, allowing the wires to come loose. I rewired every Puch I had. I still have 2 Puchs, a Free Spirit, which is mostly Puch parts, and a Tomos A35 Targa.

When I grew up, in the UK we called these pedal & pops, my geography teacher rode a similar Puch, and used to laugh watching him pedalling it on the big steep hill near where I lived

If you wanna take the carb off without unbolting the intake each time, you can simply tilt it sideways while still on the intake and pull it out! That's how I do mine! Enjoy your videos, keep up good work! Cheers

Great Story from my Navy days in the early 70's. We rented Bikes like these in Puerto Rico. Eight of us from Engineering Rented these for $29.00 for a three day weekend. Only used .90 cents in gas. When we returned back to the ship the guys called us The Over the Hill gang.

fuel cap is exact messure of two stroke mix , then add straight petrol. shake bike with cap on . has got manual choke , push down button slide near bottem right side of fuel tank . when warm will push up , or will come up with throttle. take engine head off , clean black carbon of top of piston with copper coin . , I had three of these . put new plug in , new points as well . It will go up any hill , when these things are done . In England top speed is 35 mls.

Those pucks remind me of the pucks in window regulators before you could buy them I made them on a CNC mill from scraps of Delrin I got from work. I would do the fist side in a vise then flip them over and do the second side in a vacuum fixture I made.

I had a friend with a Puch, back in the 1977-78 timeframe. Other friends had Sachs, Garelli, and a few Vespa Ciao's. It would be neat to find one of these.

Next time you have a stuck throttle valve slider, heat the carb body with a torch. The valve will come out like butter. It's gunked up old gas holding it, heat will soften the gunk. I rebuild motorcycle carbs. Done it many times, works great. Works great on stuck jets too.
BTW your videos are very awesome : )

Those Puch's were all the rage in the early 80's. Saw a lot of them here in California back then and even rode a few. The pedals were worthless but their presence allowed them to ride in the bike lane back then.
