Lovely memories of 6 months I spent in France working on a farm back in the 1970s. I was given one of these that was broken and lying in a barn, with the offer that if I could fix it, I could keep it as a runaround. Fixed in in two days (magneto contacts, spark plug and perished lead to get it running, other minor mechanical fixes) and spent the summer with "Moby" buzzing around everywhere, including around the farm. I'd forgotten about the furious pedalling to start routine. Thanks for the memories and a lovely restoration job. Alas, Moby was more utilitarian in look but it was supremely simple and reliable and a hoot bouncing over the fields after the farm 2CV van.

When I read your comment, those moments came to life in my mind like a film. Really this moped is a work of art and engineering that has touched the lives of many people. I wonder what memories this moped has accompanied for 54 years. I would like to know which sadnesses and happinesses he witnessed.

The first motorised vehicle I ever owned was a moped 55 years ago !! the amount of fun I had on that moped I will never forget!, a gallon of two stroke lasted me about a week and cost 17½ pence new money, in old money it was 3/6d or 3 shillings and 6 pennies a gallon of petrol for 17½ pence hard to belief isn't it ? today its about £8.50p or 180.9 a litre how times have changed ! today I drive a eBike no road tax and no insurance or MOT and its almost as much fun as that moped I owned all those years ago thankyou for making the video I admire your skill wish I could do what you can do fantastic to watch !

Выбивая болты и шпильки с резьбой, не надо по резьбе бить молотком, просто гайку до конца не откручивай, и бей по гайке. Когда почти вылезит откручиваешь гайку до конца, резьба не будет расклепана.

I feel rather emotional about this "Mobylette Motobecane" video, as I had one exactly like it, I landed in England in 1955 as a 16 year old young man, and after that I bought this Mobylette. I drove it all over the South of England including going from Chatham to Par in Cornwall and up to Wales and to Portsmouth . When I went to University at Newcastle upon Tyne, I drove back to Chatham and then back to Newcastle upon Tyne, each leg taking about 13 to 15 hours non stop. I drove from Chatham to London, through the tunnel and then up to Doncaster and Newcastle, On occasions I went from Newcastle to Scotland to Edinburgh and Glasgow and Pitlochry to see the salmon.
Mine had a Sachs engine, and through all those journeys I never needed to change the driving belt, nor ever had a puncture.. My colleagues at Chatham Dockyard thought that I was a fool, as their philosophy was that the longer the journey the bigger the engine one needs. I never had any problems driving at 25 to 30 mph, even slower on occasions.
I never gave it any heavy maintenance, but out of curiosity, once I opened the automatic clutch and the centrifugal balls that change the width of the pulley and once I understood it, I looked after it in the manner in which I drove. and the oil I mixed with the fuel.
When I was to returned home to Malta, in 1970 I broke my heart to have to leave my beloved Mobylette behind, and to my surprise one person at Newcastle, who knew that I was leaving, he asked me for it, to put it in his collection of cars and motorcycles. He had a Rolls Royce 1904 !0 HP.
Thank you for the memories. Congratulations for the dedication and skills and devotion and accuracy and detail which I would never match, but indeed a pleasure and an honour to see you doing this, This made me feel younger and I still drive a Honda 70 cc with which I cover all the short and long journeys I need at no more that 30 miles per hour.
Thank you once again, and congratulations for the video where you respected the sound of the work conducted as the best music to accompany the video ........... that shows respect for the sound and rhythm of engineering sequences, and how the permutations an d combinations of parts bring to life " a brother or sister od my faithful biped with a rocking engine to keep the belt in tension"

I read what you wrote letter by letter. You have equipped it with such beautiful memories and sentences that it is impossible not to be amazed. I offer you my respect and love. Your comment and support really honoured me. I am grateful to you, this is a great source of motivation for me. people's negative thoughts are much more than their positive thoughts. In fact, the value of your travels is more valuable than those made with big motorcycles. You have travelled by feeling the travel and geography and accompanying the smallest detail. Most motorbike travellers think that they are exploring by doing 400-500 km a day, but the faster you are, the less detail you see and adopt. again, I offer my respect and love.

In other words, it is one of the very few genuinely true motorcycle restoration videos on UA-cam. The rest are fake for those who don't understand anything about restorations.

As a young boy, in the late 50s, I remember these Mobylettes when my parents went on our summer holidays in France. They were absolutely everywhere - and often had a baguette or two strapped to the back. I seem to recall that they were often ridden by teens. I think the French licensing laws were more relaxed than they were in England.

I'm pleased to see an actual MoPed bike on YT! I've had three Honda and one Italian bike, all of which were pedal-free Motor Scooters. Yet virtually everyone insisted on calling them mopeds. Sorry, folks, but they don't *ped.* They just motor. It was a lost cause.
If you wonder why so many, one was stolen, trashed, and left at the bottom of a creek, one wrecked by a drunk driver, and another had the engine's exhaust attachment ear break off due to a cylinder expansion kit the original owner had installed. The last was sold to someone who was willing to repair it after I dumped it hard braking for a pedestrian who ran out across traffic on a steep downhill. I'm done with them.

My first legal ride was a Moby, (GGW21C), that cost me £10. It had caliper brakes on the front, and rigid bicycle-type forks. Easily did a true 30mph and ran on any fuel/oil mix I could afford. The local garage 2-stroke dispenser was 4p per shot, so when the tank was low, as many shots as possible at 16:1 went in, and the fuel tap turned off. It ran far enough to get me home; the oil was then decanted and the tank topped up with petrol. As an apprentice on £5.12 per week, every £1 counted. When I was 17 I got my Honda S90 for £70.
