“It’s not me vs her, it’s us vs the situation”
I preach this ALL THE TIME to my friends!!!! Y’all are reading my mind lmao I was vigorously nodding my head hearing you say that. Relationships are a TEAM effort and should never be a competition of who’s gonna “win” over the other person! Resolving conflict should never leave one person feeling defeated, because if one person “loses” then you both lose

A resume of what they said:
    - Financially on the same Table
    - Have emotional Check up every Week
    - Get to know the Family
    - Choose to love not base on your feelings & emotions
    - comunication is important
    - In alignment with the heart desires ( when to have kids, where to live etc)
    - learn eachother " fighting styles" & continue to go on intentional Dates ( quality time)
    - Cherish every Moment, time goes very fast. Have slow moments and cherish them

Ikr. Back when I was in high school and watched them get married I was like that's so sweet I would do that if I met the right person, but here I am at 20 thinking I am in no way shape or form ready for that. I'm not saying it's bad that they got married young, but I do think it shows how incredibly mature they are and were. They're not that much older than us, but they've always been my mentors.

My husband and I got married just 6 days after you guys. One thing that really works for us is our ‘15 minutes’. Uninterrupted time with no distractions (phone, tv etc) to just talk every day for 15 minutes minimum. It can get hard sometimes with work and being busy to actually sit down and spend time only with your partner & it keeps us on the same page.

My husband and I got married just a couple of months before y'all (10.08.16), so we just celebrated our 5 year as well (and we celebrated 10 years together in November)! I get so excited about landmarks like this because our happy and healthy marriage is something I'm so proud of. That being said, I feel I needed to hear Jess say, "Cherish every moment," because while 5 years ago feels like a different time, it also went by so quickly. Loved this, Jess and Gabe! I recently just went through a breakup. I was dating this guy for a year and 1/2. What caused our breakup was his lack of communication. I noticed things were getting a little weird between us. I asked him if we were okay and he would always answer with you're overthinking as usual. Obviously that wasn't the case. He waited until last minute to tell me what was bothering him. It got to the point where his frustration turned him into someone very mean and hurtful. Communication is so important. I feel like if he spoke to me more about what was bothering him, than we could've fixed those things together.

So glad you guys opened up about the conflict of where you want to end up. I moved to my fiancés country to be with him and because I had always wanted to live there, but since moving I've dealt with severe homesickness and culture shock - it's been 4 years and it's still so hard. I always wondered what Jess' experience was and if she struggled like I did, and it's also interesting to hear Gabe talk about how he felt guilty (same as my fiance). It feels like an impossible situation, but we've done the long distance so I know that the most important thing to me about where I'm living is that he's there.

My husband & I only had 45 people (including us) at our wedding! We wanted it intimate and small and it was PERFECT! We were just so excited to get married and only wanted those who were close to us there. We invited a couple friends from both sides, and the family that’s closest to us! Wouldn’t have changed the day for anything!!! Also to your point of communicating, YES. My husband and I when we first started dating, we wanted to always be honest and communicate. We talk about every single thing small or big and it truly helps! Definitely don’t let things build up. If you need time to think before talking, do it. Jess, I am from Brazil and my husband from USA. I had the same struggles dealing like half of me is here in the US and the other half in Brazil. What I had to realize was that I had to kind like “cut the umbilical cord” from my family in order to 100% be committed and build my family here in America. I will always be half Brazilian half America but that significant thought helped me to follow God’s design for my family. I have been married for 20 years thank God and have learned a lot. Wow. I understand how Jess feels because I’m the same way. I miss home (Texas) but now I live in England. I didn’t understand how much I was going to miss my family and yet how much I love being with my husband. He feels guilty as well. We just bought a house here in England and I’ve been here for 2 years and it’s just starting to feel like home.

My husband and I have just celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary a week ago! We had a similar start to our relationship as you guys; started dating July 2015, engaged July 2016 and married November 2016. We had an intimate (immediate family only) ceremony at the courthouse. I bought a cheap dress online, did my own makeup, my sister was my photographer, hair stylist, and cake maker, I handmade all of the decorations, we had a casual sit down dinner at a non-fancy restaurant after. I was 19 and he was 21. We now have 2 beautiful boys and wouldn’t have done anything differently ❤️💕

Hey. So similar circumstances, married at 19, same year too of dating, just a few months past 5 years now and one thing I wish I knew or a tip is how is their behavior when they're upset or angry. And not just towards you but your family as well. Its okay to be upset and angry but it's never okay to disrespect or hurt the trust of others, there's a manner of how to handle things especially to those you're supposed to love

You are so right though..you always feel good after a little crying moment, you gotta let that stuff go to make room for more positivityyyy. I love you guys so much. Hopefully I'm able to meet you guys one day or be a guest on one of these podcast type vids and we chill and drink coffee and I can cuddle Milo :') a girl can dream

The financial one is SUCH a big one. Be open about that because you need to know where money is going. My husband got student loans for college… we pay close to $1,000 a month on just student loans not including our mortgage, car, bills, groceries, living lol. Be open. My husband told me right away I will have student debt, it will kick in a few months after I graduate and so on. That’s my big one. Be open about finances and also what you want from a marriage and life.. if you want kids that’s something you need to both want to make your marriage and relationship work.

I just got married a few months ago, and this is such a helpful topic. I’d be interested in another video for sure. We talked about a lot of things in pre-marriage counseling, but it’s so different in actual life practice than hypotheticals. It’s a beautiful refining process though I think
