Frederick Hubbard Gwynne was an American actor, artist and author. He was best known for his roles in the 1960s television sitcoms Car 54, Where Are You? as Francis Muldoon and as Herman Munster in The Munsters, as well as his later film roles in The Cotton Club, Pet Sematary and My Cousin Vinny.
The CBS Mystery Theater (a.k.a. Radio Mystery Theater and Mystery Theater, sometimes abbreviated as CBSRMT) is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed.
The format was similar to that of classic old time radio shows like The Mysterious Traveler and The Whistler, in that the episodes were introduced by host E. G. Marshall who provided pithy wisdom and commentary throughout. Unlike the hosts of those earlier programs, Marshall is fully mortal, merely someone whose heightened insight and erudition plunge the listener into the world of the macabre (in a manner similar to that of "The Man in Black" on yet another old time radio program, Suspense). Fred Gywnne is to me the greatest OTR actor ever. So flexible, so detailed, and never took a story off. He was one of a kind. Made every episode special.
I cudnt have said it better myself. Fred and Robert Dryden in my humble opinion were the two best actors of Cbsrmt. This was such a brilliantly done show and being in England had never heard of this and other staples of American telly!! Thanx to UA-cam and the legends that upload these precious gems for our perusal and for that 'we salute u!!!!'
@@simonmcgrath4112 agree 100%
Agnes Morehead also.
@@johnmeszaros2234 She was great, just wish she was in more episodes. Tc
What a fun compliation! Gwynne's voice is so recognizable and soothing. Even if I do always hear a tinge of Herman Munster in it.
Lol But True ❤
THANKS ,,,, LOVE FRED GWYNNE
APPRECIATE YOUR WORK 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇱🇷👍👍
I love Fred Gwynne’s artistic repitoie on the Radio.
fred gwynne & howard da silva - exceptionally dulcet tones! thank you sincererly, chesterton radio superheroes
I love Howard Desilva’s voice specially when he portrays a Jewish person.
I love Fred Gwines voice
Fred Gwynne, multitalented!
He had so much talent in so many areas. He was such a pleasure to watch. So unforgettable. So recognizable.
The Tell-Tale-Heart episode is one of the most powerful shows i can remember listening to and it- (in my opinion)- brings out the absolute best in Fred Gwyne!!
Love Fred Gywnne, what an amazing man and actor! So much talent no matter what he did! Thankyou so much!
I miss E.G. Marshall as well! He is in the “National Lampoon Christmas” and really good!!
Thank You 🙏 I’m an admirer of Fred G/ man of many talents including beautiful Children’s Books 📚
Thank you
Thank you for playing this compilation. Fred Gwynne is one of my favorite actors
Thank you @Chesterton Radio! 😎👍
Love Fred Gwynne!
I injoy the Period correct commercials best of all, It makes a whole experience and memories enjoyable.❤
I love Fred Gwynne too...I thank you as well
I only knew of him as Herman Monster
and the Judge in my cousin Vinny
this an awesome find, a true testimony
of his talent beyond just a funny man.
Great.
What a rare treat! Thank you so very much, David; it's like the best gift, ever🙏🙏😘
Absolutely enthralled with these radio plays. Plugged in for the night and non stop bedtime stories . Thank you.
I admire Fred gwynne
Fred was a brilliant actor, classically trained in the theater arts. The poor guy will always be remembered as Herman Munster ? Only in America?
Yes! A great actor! Because he was such a good actor he was perfect as Herman! L💙ve The Munsters!💙
Nothing wrong with being remembered for his role as Herman Monster . Mr Freddy is the only reason i liked that show .i do agree he did have mini successes on stage and radio … Long live his fame
Nope... in the 70s I listened to these OTRs on KOMA radio. They were wonderful then, and they're especially wonderful now in 2023. Loved Mr Fred Gwynn in these CBSRMTs. Also loved him as the inimitable judge in the movie My Cousin Vinny. He was absolutely brilliant in that role. As for his Hermann Munster work, he was The Best part of that show. Thē Bést! But his part in My Cousin Vinny? It was a stellar performance. Loved him so much. 💐
Enjoying this so much 👍👍
Brilliant man .😊
Thanks
Nice collection. 👉✊👍. Thanks for sharing.
Great memories
I remember listening to scary stories on KQV radio in Pittsburgh when I was a little girl.
That’s a film 🎞 blow out? Member that 1!
I always knew our Freddy Boy had a great sense of humour and this comedic show is just done to a T and its so funny. Ude think he'd just ask her to lend him the money but that wudnt make for a funny episode now wud it?!!?!! Just wait till u hear the scene with the television, just brilliant!!!
Should list the contents of each episode.
'The Theraputic Cat"
Fred u r the main man, now answer that door wud u and tell Wednesday to comb her hair!!
I love Fred Gwynne! You should put a Larry Haines compilation as well. Another great voice. Thanks!. 👍🏻
Fred,yes.
Look up his life story.
There is so much more to him than his Munster role.
Herman Munster is a blip on the screen compared to his life's legend.
Bet u😀 never heard his Sunday night syndicated radio show!
Should have stripped out radio commercials

Regarding The Slave: I began listening to CBS RMT while I was in my mid-20s; I will be 76 y/o next month. I am an African-American student of history, so the subject of the 'Particular Institution" is well known to me, but this was the one and only episode I found to be completely ridiculous: the characters, the dialogue, the story line, the beginning, the middle and the end was so silly that it wasn't funny; it was pitiful.
Wah Wah Wah.....🎻🎻🎻😢😢
The second show was absolutely boring and horribly written, waste of time. Won’t continue with this series as the others are for the most part wonderful.
