Many decades ago I heard there was a support group in New York for lottery winners who had gone bankrupt. I was fascinated to learn that was a thing. It was pre internet era but I was able to use library books, newspapers, and magazines to understand better. There were two factors I found most incredulous about people in general that are just magnified by a big lottery winning. First, the failure to comprehend that millions of $ is not the same as infinite $. Second, inability to visualize that after buying things there are ongoing costs for maintenance, insurance, etc.
