Ebony and Jet were 2 magazines that actually reported interesting and even useful info on MJ and the Jackson family. And their sources were MJ & the Jackson family members themselves and people who worked with them and knew them closely. This is a really nice interview. Wish more interviewers were like this one.

I've always loved this interview because he was just - so - handsome... he makes me swoon!!!! And of all the interviews I've seen, this one and the one with Geraldo (just before the end of the 2nd trial,) seem to be his most relaxed, like he is his most authentic self, not defensive or on edge. Fun fact: Michael had to stay focused: Frank DiLeo was making faces & horsing around in the back, Michael was trying not to be distracted or bust out laughing in the middle of the interview. I love this one - thank you!

At 11:27 when Michael starts talking about his visits to the London School of Medicine those visits were initially made to see if top dermatologist could find a way to reverse his Vitligo and cure his lupus. He made a visit in March 1985 and May 1986. And in October 1985 he made visits to Australian institutions of Medicine.
Just as I was when I first commented, I'm still watching and wanted to speak on why he possibly became "jaded" later in life. Just as you basically said, with all of his success, he stayed humble. As crazy as it sounds, it seems that it's true that the media and others did all that they could think of to break down his kind spirit. I know first-hand how ignorant people will hate you for your kindness and find ways to achieve that.

I honestly cannot imagine doing what he did, just being the huge influence and star that he was. It was interesting to just watch and listen to the questions being asked and Michael's response to the questions. He was trying to show a more grown up, edgier side to himself with the Bad album, and just the whole era in general. I have watched this interview before but seeing it again is great, it's one of my favorite interviews as well

His spirituality comes from his Mom. She is a Jehovas Witness and (at least tried) to raise the kid's in that way. That is one of the reasons why mj was that way. And Mom did a very good job..💖 👍👏👏👏👍💖
I appreciate your curiosity for Michael Jackson's work. I grew up with Michael Jackson and his Brothers from the early 70s into the 80s and of course the 90s. He was part of the soundtrack to my life. So its great to see those who were born from another era, be so interested.

Can I just say as I was watching this interview there will never be another Michael Jackson ever. He was a spiritual person who just wanted to make a world a better and peaceful place. No they never showed the journalist. He's actually Bryant Gumble's Brother. I saw this in real time back in 87. I was surprised about it. He wasn't granting many interviews back then. But, he did have an album to promote at the time.

I had the opportunity to see Michael Jackson Live for the first time over seas on the Bad tour back in 88. He was like an ambassador of music. They really loved him across the board out there. So when he says he feels like that. It's true.

Did you see MJ Oxford Univ speech in 2001. It's on UA-cam. I cried so much his upbringing and father experiences was similar to mines. MJ and I have so much in common it's scary.

I remember parts of this interview being shown on Spike Lee's documentary on Bad. I must say though, unless I misunderstood what was said in the same documentary, the story behind Bad was different. I thought that the young man helped or was accused of helping to kill someone else. I didn't know that he was killed by his friends.

What happened to the young man who he partially portrayed, was actually murdered by law enforcement. It wasn't his friends. He did get coerced into something he probably shouldn't be doing. But, peer pressure is crazy from any side of the aisle.

Good question about not seeing the interviewer. Not sure the exact reason, I know his interview with Molly Meldrum from 1977 and 1996, it was the same format, we could only see Michael. Another he did in 1983 with a woman interviewer, the one where he joked about his age being 30.
Wish it was real. But it all fell apart. As a super fan it was hard to live through.
Well Michael Jackson and his Brothers are media savvy. They were trained or lets just media trained by the Motown machine. Over the years its seemed as if Michael Jackson used the press to his advantage. Ebony Jet is black owned. I'm sure for Michael it meant a lot to grant them an interview.
