@@Steijn01 Elite poker? Brian Townsend? 😂 Whatever you say. It's a bad bet and makes no sense, you only get called by better. Even if you're playing in a game with people attempting to play GTO and trying to find a crazy c/r bluff on the river you can pick much better candidates to call with. Betting so thin for value and then turning it into a hero call is just way over playing and over thinking. He should have checked the turn and then he could have just called Antonius' river bet. Brian would have to put Patrick on a weaker Q who's now turning it into a bluff for this hero call and his river bet to make any sense at all. If Patrick actually had a slightly worse hand that might pay off his thin river bet he would have just called instead of c/r. Just saying that Patrick may occasionally find a crazy c/r bluff in that spot and that's justification for calling is just bad poker. Something not a real player would say but someone who just watches Doug Polk videos. I've been playing and watching since this video actually happened. You probably just started learning and going back watching old classics for the first time. You're analysis is WAY off. Please never take your money to a real cash game.
@@ImDrizzt So true at 50nl you never raise a set on the river like that you would never get called from worse fish raise. Maybe 10 nl you might get a call with worse.

wtf is he value betting against on the river? QT? Even more interestingly, what hand does Antonius turn into a XR bluff on the river? The only draw was 78 that made nuts on the river.
In the same serie, Antonius made a hero call against Ivey with trip Aces while Ivey had a boat. Pot was nearly a million. Guess Antonius felt the pain bestowed on him right after.
That’s not a hero call. It’s a hand you can fold, but in theory you’ve gotta call quite a bit there. A hero call is more like one pair ( especially a low pair) , ace high. What Antonius had there was pretty much a cooler.
you should just imagine this hand is not played in your 5ct/10ct online game for a second and players like antonius are actually super capable of both herocalling and bluffraising rivers before you make such statements
@@skinrule1 being right shouldnt be so important mate, relax a bit, being so certain youre right is not very helpful if you want to get better in poker, so gl
Retired poker pro here: These are my thoughts on the hand: 1. Unorthodox but viable trap by Antonius. Protects calling range and should be done some amount of the time. 2. Same deal on turn for Antonius. Townsend's hand plays well as a bet or check on the turn. 3. Mandatory check by Antonius. Viable but thin value bet by Townsend. 4. Hero call is interesting. It's hard to put Antonius on a straight as he was just calling down, therefor he is representing a straight or two pair. Since Townsend has possible straights, sets, and large two pair, riverered two pair is dangerous a a checkraise. Antonius would 3bet with QQ or KK and would fold 44 on flop or turn, so he is essentially representing a slowplayed 66 or 55. In this era of the game almost every top player favored checkraising flopped sets, especially on this board texture. That is why Townsend was so confounded and Antonus had a reputation for occasionally running massive bluffs. So what do I think of Townsend's call? It is bad because he is not blocking Antonius' 66 and 55 combos. In fact, A6 or A5 make better hero calls than QJ for this reason. Lastly, I am more of a "tough" player known for making big hero calls and I can honestly say that after millions of hands played I have rarely won pots by calling river raises after I made a large bet. It's almost always been wasted money.
@@stephen3762 After playing (mostly online) for about 12 years I grew disgruntled with the game. A lot of the mystery is gone due to solvers and a plethora of pros sharing their secrets. I have saw some bad played hands, but that river bet instead of just checking behind might actually be the worst ever. This makes me wish I played poker back then 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm an average poker player, more than decent but not a pro, but I don't understand the call no matter how I think this over and over. Am I the only one? It drives me INSANE to hear a commentator say RERAISE when someone is simply raising a bet. There has to be a bet and a raise first before there can be a reraise!!!
Pretty terrible decisions here by Townsend. On the flop he bets pot when checked too, Antonius calls. On the turn, he bets pot again with a marginal hand, Antonius calls. On the river it's a very easy check back given 78 got there and you just bet the size of the pot twice with a marginal holding (has plenty of showdown value against some of antonius range). Instead, he decides to bet 2/3 pot for value and gets raised. After betting huge on all 3 streets, just to get raised, you have way better hands to call down here than QJo.
the river hero call is bad, but arguably the river raise by Antonious is just as bad. Townsend has all the nutted hands you do not have other than 7,8. Normally very hard to get called by worse here.
Not remotely close to being just as bad. KQ bets that river, and should bet that river, close to 100%. And someone with KQ can call that reraise as well.
