    Negative effects of psychotherapy for adults are reported at a prevalence ranging from 3-20% of clients (Berk & Parker, 2009; Linden, 2013; Mohr, 1995; Schermuly-Haupt et al., 2018). These include worsening or lack of improvement of symptoms, development of new symptoms, social difficulties such as increased family distress, stigma, and dependency on the therapist (Berk & Parker, 2009; Linden, 2013; Rozental et al., 2015; Schermuly-Haupt et al., 2018). These effects have been reported across a variety of disorders (Barkley, 2018; Moritz et al., 2015; Parker et al., 2013; Rozental et al., 2015) and for different modalities of therapy (Parker et al., 2013; Roback, 2000; Rozental et al., 2015; Schermuly-Haupt et al., 2018) with qualitative and quantitative findings.

      In the same paper: Distinguishing whether a negative psychotherapy experience is in fact a negative effect due to poor treatment or an unavoidable challenge inherent in the treatment process continues to be a central problem of this literature. There is currently no consensus on how this should be measured, and minimal studies on this question in youth (Herzog et al., 2019). If a youth believes the negative experience is a sign that therapy is not working or is harmful, then this attribution will affect treatment success (Baruch et al., 2009; O’Keeffe et al., 2019).

    Difference Between Counsellor and Psychotherapist

    • @waterwolf982
      @waterwolf982 Рік тому

      A counselor is someone you go to for advice, and may not dig deep on certain subjects. Think of a school counselor.
      A psychologist or psychotherapist in long sessions will aid someone in a deep-dive into their memories, traumas, current lives, and help someone cope and recover from what they are experiencing.

    I never followed a course of therapy because it was so expensive and one could spend a lot of money without feeling any better.
    I would be prepared to spend a lot of money if I could definitely get better. If you get the wrong therapist there is no comeback and because it is so abstract you would have great difficulty proving it wasn't working.

    Feeling better about something or yourself. Ddesn't mean it is going to result in constant consistent physical mental financial spiritual progress. So instead of being so theatrical in your treatment. Let's stick to what has been scientifically classified religiously verified to make the type of progress that is going to be long term permanent. Instead of a brief moment like gluttons drug addicts and alcoholics experienced daily. I mean psychology has the potential of improving upon and maintaining the quality of life to the highest degree that is humanly possible.

    I wouldn't waste my time with a psychotherapist, or a psychiatrist or anyone with an (IST) on the end of their title. They are the ones who need a head doctor, because they have more problems than most and many of them are divorced. Do they really care? No, but they do love the money. And the money they get an hour is highway robbery! Get a dog or a cat to listen to you.

      Totally agree with all of the above except the first and the last statements. Psychiatrists are basically legal drug dealers who are probably better to get meds from than illegal drug dealers because they're less likely to poison you. Psychotherapists can be helpful dealing with the legal system because they're basically professional con artists like lawyers but not as expensive. So far as talking to dogs and cats, that didn't really work out very well for David Berkowitz

    The way she is explaining psychotherapy. Doesn't seem to be much different from traditional psychology? Am I missing something.

    🚴‍♀ 🕸 simple concept basic logic if life is not free why the hell would death be any cheaper it's not. So the question one may wonder is the spiritual cost to one's own soul and spirit for having lived and died to the lowest standards of quality for so many years now global pollution has diminished the quality of life to the point where today's people are living, dying and yielding the worst spiritual kickback that has ever been manifested since the beginning of life only getting worse. The polar opposite extreme to that is today's people should be living and dying to the highest standards of quality which would make each and every moment physically, mentally, financially and spiritually beneficial.
