God bless you big homie. One extra thing I wanna add for anyone leaving it in there and just turning it; make sure you disconnect the wire harness after it’s opened just in case it decides to reset itself like mine did 🥴
Thanks for showing the actuators , I turn mine with a small locking pliers and a coin, without removing the actuator, unplugged the connector and that's it, air to the vents again
Did this, worked for a year, got a new battery and it reset but someone said you can use a flat stick or bar and reach it through the underside of the steering wheel
Damn I thought this was going to be a quick duck but ima have to literally become the mechanic or find one. I’m afraid I won’t know how to put it all back together cause in reality I don’t know what I’ll be doing.
"Look up and see one, that's not the one. Look up and there's another one. That's the one". I love how it explains absolutely nothing as the first one has no desription... which also doesn't describe the other one... But hilariously... THAT'S THE ONE! EUREKA! Wait... what are we looking at?
I did end up taking the actuator off. But it is possible to turn the metal dial on the outside without removing the actuator. I just didn't have a tool that would fit in the opening.
What I ended up doing is the actuator next to the broken one (floor vent actuator) has the same size power plug. Unplug the working actuator plug and plug it into the broken one and it opened the vent door so I unplugged it when it opened, keeping it in the open position and now it blows through the front dash. This however will not work if the actuator itself is damaged/broken.
Thanks, Max and Nicole! My '03 TB has the same problem. If I go that far, I'll probably replace the actuator but at least your method is a great workaround th beat the heat temporarily. Nice instructions!
So i have an 09 envoy gmc and i cant get cool air to the floor and the defrost and actually the side dash vents that defrost the door glass by each mirror.
Thanks for the video! I have a 2002 trailblazer with the same problem defrost and vent actuators are both bad was in there and got defrost working but it stopped again. Going back in and doing it your way.
You should be able to reach the actuator without removing the top dash. At the time, I was also removing the radio. Also, removing the dash gives you a little more working space and light
Eleazar Rosales .....just take off bottom panel under the steering wheel, not the whole top panel. He only took that off cause he was changing the radio too, there’ll be some screws that hold both together but you’ll only pull off the bottom part...

Wow fascinating! I was delivering fruit for my job and the AC had to work. One shop replaced the fan clutch. Nothing. Brought to dealer - a week later - and they replaced the fan clutch with a GM part. haha. $1600 and still NO ac. You would think the dealer would know how to fix it. Dang! Now you show the secret of the actuator moving. thanks
@@maxandnicole Just got back from driving 350 miles. I forgot to check my condenser again. But when I got up north - I checked the condenser - the hoses - the accumulator - all HOT. haha. So my AC is totally busted. What happened is the dealer did NOT do the PCM update as per the TSB - since it got "cancelled" in 2008 - and so the mechanic wrote, "not sure if the update will improve the HVAC." So then people say - if you don't get the PCM Hvac module update then the fan clutch will bust again. haha. Oh well... tomorrow the dealer promised to give me free labor for redoing the rear differential cover. They claimed to have refilled the fluid - and fix the gasket leak. Since it was still leaking - then I checked the fill plug and of course it's all rust welded and stripped out - rounded out. Oops. So I ordered a new differential cover. Hopefully it will fit.
I broke a butter knife halfway down the blade it worked wonderfully to open actuator. Was able to reach it without taking dash panels off, only the bottom panel. Also don't forget to disconnect wire so it don't reset to close. Thanks for video nice temporary fix

You could replace it but any time your battery is disconnected for repairs - Oops - same problem over again. Just get rid of it! Leave it open and manually close the vents - no problem - like you're doing. thanks
Thank you for the videos and awesome information, I'm having slight the same problem as you ,my front vents are blowing air but the left side (driver) vents blow warm air ,the passenger side vent is cold ,do you suspect its a closed front driver vent thats causing this problem? I'm gonna tear the whole dash apart anyways and get to the problem!
We worked on our '03 Trailblazer last weekend for this same issue. We couldn't get to the top actuator, so we started the TB, moved the actuator gear with a big screwdriver, then unplugged the wires. No we have in your face vents for A/C without having to replace the actuator, and we can control speed and temp with the control panel.
I know this is an old tutorial but I'm experiencing the same problem with my Trailblazer, question can you reach the actuator from the top if I remove the dash board or just underneath to turn the valve?.
Great info. did this & unplugged the actuator and vent works. The problem I'm having is that it resets back to defrost only when the truck is restarted.

What size flat head did you use to turn the piece on the actuator?
when you removed the vent did you need to disconnect or unscrew anything, or just pulled the vent out? thanks
When you say vent are you referring to the actuator? If so, then yes it needs to be unsrewed. I think. It's been a while.
How many hours did it take to replace it?
If the clutch is kicking on and I still have warm air coming out could it still be a fuse or relay
Not likely. If the air is blowing warm then. Check if you have enough refrigerant, you may need to add some.
