What a super review! Andy, you make it sing - you are a very talented guitarist. I recently picked up the exact same guitar for a bargain price - I was shocked by the quality, sound, and playability - I've had many a Fender Strat, and I just love this one, which I really didn't anticipate! Many thanks for a really enjoyable well-presented video!

I just recently got the burgundy Mist Gold Edition of that guitar with the big 70s headstock the guitar plays and looks wonderful I haven't yet gotten it set up where I like it but that comes soon within about a week I wish I didn't live 3,000 miles away or whatever amount it is here in the United States because I would come and take lessons from you I love you playing your phrasing your Jazz chords your your comp chords and the voicings that you use for each chord is beautiful if God willing I can ever get to the UK I'm going to come and get some lessons from you

Thanks for the review. I just bought this one. Although I'm new with electric guitar (2y) I'm enjoying the looks and quality of this piece. Got it on sale. So far, is the best buy I've made. I'm also noticed that the tremolo is kind of stiff

Managed to pick up the same model/colourway for a criminally good price via Thomann last autumn - first Strat-style guitar I've ever owned but really loving it so far, a lot of guitar for the money plus the sea foam green really suits the surfy Californian vibe too

    My sunburst is 9+ pounds!
I recut the nut slots for 10-46 strings and loaded the slots with graphite, swapped in a roller string tree, lubed it and the saddles with Super Lube. I've got 4 Fender vintage tension springs on the trem, upgraded the sad wan zinc trem block with a Musiclily full steel block, and got their stainless keyhole style saddles. I float the bridge about 1/16", no tuning problems at all. One does need to relube things as time goes by.
The only bad thing was fret lift. I live quite close to the ocean so once it was fully sopped in I had to glue 19 frets back in. I can so it was just a couple hours of bother but still, the factory should probably glue them in initially...
I liked the pickups a lot but I already have a SSS with slightly hot gray bottom late 60s voiced pickups so I installed a set of full stack noiseless pickups in a single ply matte black vinyl scratch plate with a GFS active boost circuit. Sold the loaded aluminum plate which put me at about $240US outlay (the sunburst was on deep discount at Musicians Friend to start.)
Too heavy to play standing for long but the noiseless pickups make it great for recording. I guess the sunburst isn't too popular but I really like its looks, reminds me of a german shepard, lol

First off, ridiculously tasteful playing. Next, the colour of that guitar seems worth the price alone given how upgradable all the hardware is. I guess that a benefit of Squier over Sire is that you can use parts intended for a Fender and they should fit perfectly. Nice job with the PTFE, hopefully that lasts. You can actually get stiff springs to put in the threaded hole before threading in the bar and they've worked well for me. Might also be worth considering a graphite string tree to improve tuning stability. So long as the body and neck are comfortable, you can simply upgrade the rest over time as anything wears out or annoyances surface. Might be a nice testbed for you to try out a few "loaded pick guards" you can get these days. 😊

Yeah I guess it’s a very easily mod-able guitar should I get the urge to fire up the soldering iron!

Great down to earth review and really amazing playing. Really love the different styles (and techniques) you seem to master.
I have the sonic blue version of this guitar and I really fell in love with this guitar.
The neck is the best playing neck on any guitar that I've tried, allthough that does not say much. :)
It's something about the satin finish and this specific neck profile that make it so easy to play.
Funny that you mention the weight, as for me it's the lightest guitar I own. :)
For reference, I also have the 40th anniversary vintage telecaster and that one is much heavier.
I also have an older J Mascis (made in China) Jazzmaster Squire and that one is also quite a bit heavier.
Thanks also for the great tip for the tremelo arm. I had good results with adding a tiny spring in the hole for the tremelo arm, but your solution seems even better. :)

I bought the sonic blue as well but had to send it back the frets were beveled too far leaving almost no fret under the E strings. I'm deciding if I want to try again.

You can always order some tremelo springs for strats to help with tension but plumbers tape works too just wears down over time

Ultra strat string guide, CTS potentiometers, add a .047 orange drop capacitor, change to cloth wiring, upgrade the bridge, pickups and possibly the nut. They’re worthwhile changes and can serve as an educational project if it’s your first time doing it. You will learn tons and the satisfaction of doing it on your own is very pleasing.👍🏼

I like your playing it sounds really nice I bought the squire strat 40th anniversary Gold edition and the 40th anniversary telecaster and red with a black binding. I have a 2003 fender 40th anniversary stratocaster. Well it was manufactured in 2003 for 2004. What I noticed when my guitar is arrived and I collect guitars and Gibson guitars also as well as fender and other brands the reason you like the neck profile is because it is the same as the 54 stratocaster. That is what has impressed me about the guitar. And the guitar also came with out standing sounding pickups. My fender 40th anniversary strat I replace the bridge pickup because I don't like the output of it. But the ones that came in The squire 40th anniversary sound amazing. Anyhow I subbed to your channel and I really enjoy your playing.

Please excuse the literacy. I'm talking into my phone. Also I meant to say that my fender strat is actually a 50th Anniversary. But the only thing I need to do with mine is lower the strings and set the intonation other than that for being a squire that thing is ready to go.

.....don't envy me, but pity me.....I fell hopelessly in luv with these guitars....and, bought all three....not all at once, but as the prices dropped, i followed. Initially, they came out of the gate @ $599 US.....I had my eye on the 'two color' - having a 'sea-foam green' Vintera already - something about this burst...3/4 of the body is black, and the small, caramel brown center complimented & matched the neck.....and with the anodized black pick-guard with the three white singles popping from within....it was just an unusual look....But, $599 for a Squire?.....low and behold, a little more than a year ago, Sweetwater offered a major drop in price of $240....so I snagged one for $360....my last one, the 'sea-foam,' I snagged at $300....they must have made too many of them, for on Reverb, new & used, a gazillion for sale. If you can buy one today at or below $300, it will enchant you for a lifetime!.......Andy, what a wonderful display of personality and craft, Bravo!
