I’m an arborist and I’ll say that the sugihara bars are some of the best I’ve used, especially on smaller saws and top handles. I’ve beat the heck out of it on my T540XP and haven’t even needed to ever touch the rails. The performance of the bar is also better than most others. The tolerances seem to be tighter and the way the chain slides along the rails is super smooth and allows for more precise cuts. I don’t think they’re stainless and mine rust. I usually grind off all coatings and cold blue the steel.
I primarily use stihls and I’ve only ever used the factory bars. When they wear out, I go to my local stihl dealer and get a new one. I going to look into one of those sugiharas now. Thanks for the video!
I grew up on a farm, most of my family is pro loggers . My brothers got a couple skidders and slashers and all that. We just use what’s available, I’m starting to wander and look at other stuff. Lol I usually cut 50 cords or more every year of just firewood. Keep up the good work you rock brother.
Yeah and not all stainless has the same rust resistance. I worked in marine industry and the best stainless steel for rustproof was Swedish stainless steel hands down.
1 point to be made is that its a half pound 28" I. front of you and at 8-12 hour shifts it definitely makes a difference. Especially when running a 372xp or 395xp all day.
I agree almost 100% with everything in this video. The only thing I would add is that personally, I have ruined 2 bars by getting them stuck while felling. I almost wore one bar out with normal use. As a homeowner who cuts firewood I'm twice as likely to destroy one than wear one out. Well, I'm glad it's not like that with vehicles.
Bars can be a great debate! There's a big difference between professional Sawyer's homeowner/ Rancher or firewood cutters! Homeowner/ rancher usually don't know about bar maintenance poor about maintenance in general
I see a lot of torn up bars all due to maintenance also my more professional woodcutters they know about maintenance and how important a good maintain bar is for production Your barn chain is just as important as your powerhead I can tell all my guys it starts with your bar and chain in order to get a straight cut!!!! A well-maintained bar and chain I'll take a lot of strain off your power head I make your powerhead last 100 times fold!!!!!
If anyone thinks that the steel used in an Oregon bar is equal to a Sugihara they are crazy, I use only Sugi bars on my Husky's now and will never go back. The Sugi's are made in Japan and are of a much better quality and they are lighter and last longer. Sugihara bars are hardened 4 times and have a rockwell hardness (HRC) of 60 when Stihl bars are 57 and Oregon bars are 55
Thats correct its if cheap it will have some pull on the magnet.if its 200 stainless it won't be at all.. also I know grinding on the bar is not a good idea but for anybody who doesn't care. Take a grinder and touch the bar. Yellow sparks are steel blue sparks are stainless. Correct me if I am wrong
@@beeehusky7431 there is a difference for sure but not sure you could make a definite yes. You probably could tell if you have a sample to compare with. I bet the metal comp is online. It is most likely a hardened steel blend.
I LOVE when I get a small tree job! It's fun, a good workout, and I almost always get paid twice. Once for the job, and then once for using the tree afterwards. If it's good wood, like hickory, I'll bring it home and mill it into lumber. If it's good firewood, it goes in my stove. Even pine, I'll sale to people wanting wood for their fire pits.
@@novicelumberjack I'll probably post a video of the place today. We rented a bucket lift. I'm using my truck to pull a few trees over. This one pine gets me excited. It's huge.
Bro, if you only wear out 1 side of the bar you get half life out of the bar. How can you begin to say anything about a tip wearing out? I have seen them replaced by people that cut all day every day. Try that and see what happens, huh? Personally I don’t care about advertising for anyone unless paid to and an upside down bar to me shows some sort of knowledge of maintenance, not that it’s put on wrong or a mistake made. But then again if I had your money…..
The archer bars are pretty darn heavy, and I immediately bent the hell out it when I got my bar pinched(first tree of the day fuck ups). I bent it back to fairly straight it works but not ideal lol. The versacuts are my go-to. I also have a speedcut which i believe is just versacut but .325, don't buy their speedcut chain it's got half the length of some other teeth on other chain types lol.
@@RumfordSledhead I deleted his stupid comment. Don't know what he was on about. If he does it again, he'll get blocked. Can't stand a holes like that.

It's called truing the bar when you even the rails up. They've also got a rolling clamp to get the gauge back where you want it.
The versacut is a lite weight bar. They only make them up to 24" and I paid $75 CAD for it. Funny is the 16" was the same price as the 24"
Your right, the versacut and speedcut line replaced the Pro-lite series.
Magnets don't stick to stainless, usually. Though, if read, somebody already said that.
That Sugi most likely has LOTS of Chromium in its alloy, and that will allow for longevity AND extremely good rust resistance.
That chrome also contributes to the Sugis being harder/more wear resistant.

I purchased a 20" Sugihara for my 372. Im not gonna lie....its a looker
I have Sugi or Tsumura on every saw I have, no issues yet but I rotate through all my saws.
I use a 20” power match , good bar and replaceable tip. That’s all I know lol
They make a new one now with an aluminum core. Not sure but they say it’s stronger and lighter. But I have no clue lol
