Subbed because I was surprised to actually *enjoy* listening to a UA-camr…and then realize she doesn’t even make videos anymore :(
0:02 i thought the video ended...
adorable ball python! I like your set ups.
You just gained a new subscriber! Your channel is very informative and helpful! Nice to see trustworthy pettubers popping up in the community.
Thanks for the videos! Just got my first ⚾🐍 and you've helped a lot!!!
I love your set ups!
This is very helpful thank you!! You and your python are very beautiful. Trying to convince everyone in my household to get a ball python!!
They are total puppy dog noodles, once people are around them for a while it's pretty easy to realize that they are such babies. Hope you can convince everyone!
Beautiful. The python looks nice as well.
Very helpful!
Thanks for the information awesome video I just got my first ball python this month❤️
great video and very helpful!!
Great video, very informative...much appreciated. My first baby ball will be coming in on the 16th, and I used the bigger tub set up too.
Thank you! I'm so glad this helped you! I'll be posting a video showing my actual tub setup today :) what morph is your new baby ball?? so exciting!
@@elenacarvell3346 Sry....I never get my notifications lol. He's a normal and I'm getting a female blue eyed lucy in early February. I hope you keep making videos, they're very helpful!
American Made No worries! I miss UA-cam notifications all the time for some reason 😑 Aw normies are so great, my normal was my first too and he is literally like a puppy ❤️ so excited for you!
On my lamps without hooks I use large binder clips to hold the cord against the lamp stand. I definitely recommend it!
Omg you are a GENIUS. I'm addicted to cute office supplies too so I got alll the binder clips. Thanks girl!
Elena Carvell no problem! I’m the same way, I love all things planning / office supplies!
Melissa Leigh oh god do not get me started lol I should honestly make videos about my obsession with planners and organization, and like pen/highlighter reviews 😂 idk why it’s so addicting haha!
Elena Carvell I have an entire IG account dedicated to planning! 😂 I work with planner shops doing PR. I LOVE it! Check out @chicandclean on IG. I’ve been a little inactive because I’m nursing two ball pythons Back to health though.
Careful with dimmer with heat pad. Would seriously recommend thermostat!!!!
I use both haha, thank you though! I didn’t explain that very well
Please make more videos. Im getting my first snake and you're videos really help.
Great video.
The snakes are cuties
Im actually looking at that exact tote for juvenile BPs. We live in Northern California fire country so I want lite enclosures if we need to evacuate quickly. I think I might try to cut the gasket in the lid, only leaving gasket underneath each latch and possibly adding a second layer of gasket under each latch to allow air to flow through while still keep it secure. It might allow limit the amount of unsitely holes that need to be drilled in the tote.
I made a tub setup for a young 3 month old jungle jag CP i got i cut out a hole on the the top in a circle that perfectly fits a heat lamp and also have a UTH for her as well doing great we are currently in the proccess of moving so when we move i will be building her a custom enclosure!
Darrin Minkiewicz that’s amazing!!! I have wanted a Carpet Python for soooo long, the next snake I get will either be a CP or a Boa. Would love to see your custom enclosure once it’s built!
I really enjoyed this video! How long do u leave your lamps on and your uth? Thank you!
That look she did crack me up lol.
Anyways so it safe to you heating pad on a tub .
I wish I had came across your video sooner! I am keeping my Ball in a very similar tub, but it's the Ziploc version with reinforcement ridges on the bottom. The heat pad doesn't make good contact, I had no idea Sterilight made this style...Amazon here I come. Also, I really like your desk/bench setup! May I ask, how do you have the lamp stand secured? Mine is just held under the tub but it is kind of sketchy. Nevermind, I see your links now.
Do you have the link for the tub?
Your temp controller setting will differ completely on where your probe is located. Never rely on ur temp controller for your actual temps. Also, the gradient is very important for healthy digestion in ball pythons. If you have windows nearby, more the reason to have a way to have a controller for each and 2 thermostats (one hot and one cooler) and also a way to check humidity.
She should try using a regular heating pad, thats what i do, just have to make sure it doesnt have the 2hour auto shutoff and make sure theres a little room between the tub and the pad, the heat dispences perfectly and dont have to worry about overheating or using a temp controller
Amazing video! Helped me a lot. Your python is so cuuuttteee😍!! Im going to melt into a puddle!! Oh, just a suggestion, Try to speak up a bit for your next video :) great work!
Thanks! He is so adorable he makes me melt all the time :) I am always so scared i'm like, yelling haha. I can definitely turn up the volume of my voice when I edit in the future. Thanks!
Elena very good video i have thought about using that tub but didnt think it would work. Well it does thank you so much for the info what about the substrate that you use and the rack you use to hold or sit your enclosures on thank you so much
linda pecor sooo sorry late reply! I am actually in the process of filming a video covering all of that so stay tuned!!! Lotta editing to do haha
Do you cut a hole in the top of the tub's lid and have the heat go through the hole or do you just heat the tub through the plastic lid of the tub?
Heat through lid
Hey, does the heat actually penetrates the tub lid? Having a CHE really raises the ambiant temperature?
Do you know anything about heat mats are they safe for farunarium
What all do you have inside the enclosure for instance how big is your hide and waterbowl
What size tub do you use?
In my tub setup video I show the exact size and brand of tub that I use :) but most of the tubs I use are 54 Qt (51 L) and 22.5"Lx16"Wx12.75"H.
Subscribed! Can't wait for more videos!
where do you place the heat pad? and where should i place the drinking bowl pls awnser i need help.
Never thought of a tub like that to be honest brilliant idea, how is it trying to keep heat and humidity like tho. I have a thin profile tub and a I'm now struggling to find decor to fit, keep up the vids rep room looks cool to 🙂
Could you do a heat bulb that provides light in the day and then use the moonlight at night? Or should I just choose one?
NO! Buy heat bulb for the day that has light and buy a ceramic heat emitter for night. The colored bulbs for night time is horrible for them! Never ever use a colored bulb at nighttime for any type of animal, it is like shining a blue light in your eyes while you are sleeping, it throws them off of their day and night schedule.
Were did u get those tubs with those 4 latches
I've seen them at Target
They have them at Wal-Mart and on Amazon too, you might be able to get them at big lots too (if you have one in your area).
what kind of lamp stands are those
Is it ok to leave lights on tubs when leaving to work if I have on thermostat.
Would heating a tube to 92 degrees melt the plastic?
Do you have a hole cut out in the lid under the lights?
Thanks! you helped me out so much. I'm starting my own dubia roache farm for my Yoshi and I need to heat up the tote the roaches are in and they hate light so I can't use a heat lamp. And eBay has the lamp stands for like $12 just a little heads up eBay is way cheaper
Samantha Tucker Omg thanks!!! I never even think to use eBay anymore haha! Those lamp stands are like kinda really expensive too for what they are! I’m always so annoyed when I buy them on amazon haha
Elena Carvell
I love eBay
Nice
where did you buy your plastic containers?? I cannot find any that are clear all around.
Halley Eldridge they have some at target (I work there)
Apologies if this was covered but how many qt are those tubs
Can u use just the lamp with a plastic tub?
I recommend using a UTH (heating pad) without a lamp instead of just a lamp, but it kind of depends on what the ambient temp is in the room you keep your snakes and also the size of the plastic tub you use. The best thing you can do is test it out before you move your snake into the tub and monitor the surface and ambient temps in the tub with a infrared heat gun for surface temp and a digital thermometer for ambient. Using a lamp is really to bring ambient temps up and allow them to bask under heat if they want to (mine usually come out at night and sit under their lamp for a while). Most of the time they will be hiding and using a heating pad will keep them much warmer than the lamp would at that point. Hope this helps!
How high above your plastic tubs do you keep your heat lamps? I'm trying to find the optimal distance so as not to burn the plastic, but still close enough to raise ambient temps. Thanks!
Brianna Suskie So it will depend on how many watts the bulb is and also which brand of lamp you’re using. My favorite are the Zoo Med ones because they have a wire hook. I use mostly 100 watt bulbs, but 75 watt works too. Average distance is about 8-10 inches. I definitely suggest experimenting to find the best height for your setup since there are a few factors that will vary based on what you’re using. Brand of tub, room temp are also things that could factor in. I would start off with higher up and move it down incrementally over time until you hit an ideal temp.
So I've been a little nervous because I want to use a heat mat and nightlight bulb but I'm worried it will melt the tub. Is there any way that I can avoid that?
それはだだまされてはいけない yes! If you buy a lamp dimmer switch you can hook up the heat mat to it and control how hot it gets so it doesn’t melt the tub! With the lamp you want to get a temperature probe that allows you to set a specific temp so once the inside of the tub reaches that temp, the lamp will shut off!
@@elenacarvell3346 Thank you so much! I have another question though, and sorry if you already said this, but what wattage of bulb do you use?
Great video! But I am curious about keeping the heating mats on the dimmers. Shouldn't they be put on thermostats also? I do like how you set your tubs up though, maybe I have been wrong but as far as I know, any heating source needs a thermostat.
Yes. You're correct
At 4:50 the snake behind you in the tank gets bored! Lol
How do you get the heat mats to stick to the under part of your bin!? I have tried several things but the heat is not letting the mat stick under the bin & the lil air space i provide to maintain air flow lets the mat just fall right off so the bin has ZERO heat! Idk what else to do except transfer everyone to glass tanks which i really don't wanna do. Plz help!
You can use aluminum HVAC tape.
Me and my lady have the same one
Link for the tote you use? Please
So what's your cool side temp? 85!? Little confusing I have a similar tub set up with just a mat and I have a lamp ceramic heat emitter set up like urs I haven't used it bc everytime I tried it out the tubs kinda hot boxed like it made my cool side too warm.. I did have a shorter tub than these when I tried it out though (and yes it was on a thermostat) I'm just curious what your cool side is generally? You said you don't do a gradient you do ambient? That doesn't really make sense ambient means the temperature of the air that's all, you still need a tempature gradient so they can properly regulate their body tempature so I'm a little confused there. I will try using the lamp again with the taller tub but I can't imagine having 1 enclosures cool side right next to another enclosures heat lamp very good at keeping that cool side cool it might be worth getting more thermometers to make sure you have a cool enough cool side idk what the temp of the room is so I'm not gonna assume anything is wrong with your set up I just noticed these things and was curious, thank you for your video!
The temperature gradient model is sort of the "classic" method that has been taught sort of since the beginning of keeping ball pythons. There is nothing wrong with using a stricter gradient, but another option is maintaining a more stable ambient temp between 82-86 and providing a warmer spot that is about 88-90 is a method that works really well too. It will vary depending on the region you live in and the room temp, but typically there ends up being a slight gradient anyways and temps will drop slightly at night as well. With this type of set up I've found that they don't need to move back and forth during the day and instead will just come out at night to explore.
And what size are they
Wow your pretty and you like snakes! Thanks for the info.😍
Do you think this would work for blue tongue skinks? I was thinking of getting a few tubs and taking out the sides and putting them together to make one larger one.
I recommend watching more videos. I do not know much about snakes, so I find that watching and sometimes reading multiple sources helps a lot.
@@secretGIRL0257 Blue tongue skinks are not snakes, and I can't find any videos on people housing them in tubs so that's why i was asking.
@@imsam1974
I'm so sorry. I think my brain was obsessed with snakes and the letters got stuck in my head. I just found this source on Google. www.goherping.com/bluetongueskinks
He is an okay guy; I saw his snake care guides, and they were good information in my opinion. He is also very detailed so that might help.
If the skink needs to be in a humid place then yes, tubs will be fantastic.
www.reptifiles.com/tanks-vs-tubs-best-reptile-enclosure/
This website talks about the necessary different cages and how they can help.ReptileMountainTV has a series of this type of skinks. This is what I got from a quick 30-minute search of Google/ UA-cam. Let me know if any of them helped.
I see you have a top on the tub. How do you keep the top of the tub from melting? I love your set up and the videos! I just got my first ball too, and I would love to have more. Just looking for innovating ways to keep them. ❤️🐍
I just went digging through comments looking for this answer myself and I found it! A year ago she said " I did not cut an opening on the lid, the heat seems to get through just fine without one! Having an opening on the lid would make humidity a little harder to maintain!"
if you just have some space between the top and the lamp it will not melt. you just need soome space for the tub to be breathing.
Great video! Did you cut an opening on the lids of your bins for the heat to get in?
luvlost03 so glad you liked it! 😊 I did not cut an opening on the lid, the heat seems to get through just fine without one! Having an opening on the lid would make humidity a little harder to maintain!
@@elenacarvell3346 I'm designing my own enclosure using a tube. I'm blessed with blacksmithing skills so I'm smithing my own lamp stand! The one thing I could not land on was whether or not to cut a hole in the top and cover it with mesh for the light. Glad to know that it transfers well through the lid!
You got so many Dudes™ in your comments girl I'm so sorry. Excellent video keep it up 👍👍👍
Your video should have more likes. It's instructive.
Who makes the bins, Rubbermaid or sterrelite??? I'm trying to find them online
Justin Di Paolantonio go to Walmart or target. I have sterilite ones from Walmart for just 8 bucks each
A shallow tepid bath is cheaper and easier for stuck shed
When the plastic is heated up ..it doesnt release anything that could harm the snake?
Most plastic tubs won't release any toxic fumes unless they are actually burning, which won't happen unless they are heated beyond 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit). It's highly unlikely that any plastic tub you would purchase commercially wouldn't be heat resistant at temps suitable for reptiles. For ball pythons, and pretty much any reptile, you wouldn't want to have temps getting any higher than the low 90s Fahrenheit. Hopefully this helps :)
Can you out a heat mat on the side of a tub? Would that melt a tub?
This is for a crested gecko!
It won't melt the tub, but always put heat mats on a thermostat!
Do heat mats like burn the plastic on the tub or no
Yes🐍
Lecil Inting ok thanks
Hey what brand UTH are you using? What brand tubs are you using? Have the tubs been holding up well? Sorry for so many questions, but I am thinking about doing a setup like this also but with leopard geckos.
The zoomed Uth!!
So sorry I missed your comment! I was on a bit of a hiatus 😅 I use the ZooMed UTH and I use a lamp dimmer to adjust the heat output so no one gets scorched!
if you don't mind could you recomend somewhere to purchase a ball python that isnt super pricey?
Hey not sure if you wanted anyone else to respond, but xyz is a website that sells healthy and nicely priced snakes. The very basic morphs I have seen on that site are cheaper than a lot of places I have seen
@@ThatAnxiousGamerDragon Thank you
Do you plan on getting more snakes or breeding love your video's
linda pecor sry late reply! I would LOVE to get more snakes. I’m mainly interested in Pythons and Boas. I also really love geckos and monitors! Honestly I just love reptiles in general, I don’t think there is a reptile I wouldn’t get 😂 I just really want to make sure I can provide the best for any animal I take in, really do the research, and I want to make sure I’m giving everyone love and attention. So right now life is a little crazy so probably no new snakes yet... but I’m hoping to pick up some new little guys at the next NARBC in Tinley Park (huge reptile expo) Also don’t plan on breeding, I just have never been interested in it but who knows. No time soon though!
Where have you bought your specific tubs at? I've tried looking round Ace hardware Lowe's etc and I have not found anything that was close to your work with the lid locks like you got. The one I currently have only has two locks on the side he's a two year old and I don't think he would try to get out but I just don't want to take the chance and I don't want to put tape on the sides either....
I have the same tubs, and I purchased them at Target, maybe check there!
I'm feeling a little bit lost. It sounds like you're using a dimmer the heat pad instead of a thermostat. If I understood that correctly, why?
It's cheaper.. I don't recomend it personally I just get themostates and only recomend those. People used dimmers before themostates became well known/popular. People continue to use them bc they either aren't updated in their reptile products and care or they are just trying to save money and they aren't saving that much Mabe 10, 20 bucks. Just get a thermostat guys!
Catie F no she does have a thermostat as well. It’s the 1000wat with 3 plug ins. It just only comes with one probe which is what she was trying to explain :)
Payton Rain yes thanks for clarifying for me, I do use both ☺️
Wut ubaet bull snakes
I have had my ball python for about 9 months and he is like the same size as yours, but I feed him a fuzzy every week (if he eats) anyone know what’s wrong with him. Thanks.
Without more information it's hard to know what is wrong with him. I feed Gilly large mice, usually 2 or 3 if he will take 3. Ideally I would feed him weaned or small rats, but a few months ago he started refusing those and seems to prefer mice so I'm letting him eat mice for a while before trying rats again. Rats are more nutritious for them so once you can it's a good idea to feed rats. You could try fuzzy or weaned rats and they'd probably be small enough. Other factors you will need to check are temperature (v important) and whether or not he has adequate hiding spaces that make him feel comfortable. Hope this helps. I recommend the r/ballpythons subreddit for more detail.
Elena Carvell ok thank you
The heat pads don't burn the plastic? I have a heating pad that said don't use it on plastic...I am just leary
meh if you get a thermostat it should be fine. If it is a polypropylene tub it should be able to withstand about 320 degrees before melting and I bet the heat pad won't get that hot
GamerX12 if your heat mat gets that hot you’ve got some bigger problems lol
I use a dimmer switch to turn the heat down, but that is mainly so it doesn’t get too hot for my snakes. But if you don’t have any space between the bottom of the tub and whatever you’re setting it on, they can get suuuper hot because the heat can’t escape. I haven’t had the plastic actually melt, but it will warp and you’ll start to smell like something is burning. That happened to me initially with this really cheap heat mat I got that came with a dimmer dial, and I only had it set at about half power. The important thing is that you either test it out before putting your snake in, or you really have the time to check every 20-30 minutes to see how the temps are and make adjustments.
@@TheGamerX12 could you link some polypropylene tubs with latches?

What's wrong with tanks
Virginia Asbury Oh nothing is wrong with tanks! 3 of mine are in tanks! Tanks just require some more work and some different strategies to keep heat and humidity in. I’ll be making a video covering that in the future!
Well for my tanks I use repti fogger..... so far So good with helping with humidity. Each snake has had great shed since. Also I make them humidity boxes it's to cute with the baby lol
I like your setup though..... I'm thinking about trying out tubs
Silly Snakes tubs are also so much cheaper too and so much lighter for tank cleanings! :)
your bp is a common wild morph..not a black pastel..I'm shure by now you've upgraded your snakes enclosure as he a adult by now. temp guns r impt. to check .
Hard to hear... Love rhe snakes
U should name him Geo or Hyro
I hate lamps, hard to setup a lamp and if you just sit them on the enclosure goodbye skin.
She should do ASMR!
This video is rendered useless by suggesting a dimmer for a uth. Always, always, ALWAYS use a thermostat with uth.
Please do not red or blue bulbs for any type of animal at night! They do not need light at night and the light is horrible for them at night. Please buy a ceramic heat emitter from amazon you can get a 2 pack for 10 dollars. All animals need to have a day and night cycle and the colored bulbs throw them off of that cycle which is bad for their health.
Could barely hear anything even with the volume on full blast lol
