    It’s more recommended to put the sensor bit for the thermostat inside the enclosure above the heat pad but under the substrate so that way you can get a reading of the temperature inside the enclosure

    • @aut1x234
      @aut1x234 5 років тому +3

      BossMan Gameplays until your substrate moves and the snake isn’t on top so the heat map heats up even more.

      Absolutely NOT. If the snake burrows and moves the probe it will get cooked.

    • @ohiohouston3560
      @ohiohouston3560 5 років тому +2

      You use a heat gun to get the temp inside the enclosure. Ignore the temperature on the thermostat, just adjust it until the inside temp is correct

    • @jeremyhoffman5655
      @jeremyhoffman5655 4 роки тому

      @@ohiohouston3560 if you put the probe in between the mat and the tub your readings are going to be off. That's why you secure the probe on the inside so it can't be moved.

    Won’t the heat burn their under part

    • @ereynolds4637
      @ereynolds4637 6 років тому +14

      No, that's what the thermostat is for. Because all reptiles are cold blooded, they need a source of heat to help digest food and metabolize. For the majority of snakes, the heat pad is necessary because of belly heat rather than a lamp. If the thermostat were unregulated, then yes the snake could easily burn and the plastic could melt, also causing potential fires and the heatpad itself to melt and malfunction even further. Usually the tempurstures needed for snakes range from 85 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit depending on the species (for ball pythons it's usually 88 to 90), however without the thermostat the heat mats easily reach 130.

    I was just concerned about the heat pad on the plastic container. It says on the heat pad box to only use with glass, not on wood or plastic.
    I guess however the thermostat will make sure that the pad doesn’t get too hot and burn

      A lot of them come with legs to prop the tub up, and the temp shouldn't get hot enough to melt the tub, depending on the plastic. If it does melt, it's likely wayy too hot for most snakes.

      It can but if you use a heat mat it wont do much if you get a good tub it wont do anything, but a thin cheap plastic tub might warp it but not melt it

    • @Carter-um4gb
      @Carter-um4gb 6 років тому +7

      you should be using a thermostat with heat tap or heat pads. you plug the heat source into the thermostat and then plug the thermostat into the wall. The thermostat will allow you to set the desired temp and it will keep it regulated. also there needs to be a small gap between the heat source and bottom of the enclosure. ball pythons need around a 90 degree hot spot and no that is not hot enough to melt anything plastic.

    • @uaroach4055
      @uaroach4055 4 роки тому
