Definitely one for the living room to pair with the apple tv. Our living room is small so I don't think we need a pair. I'm also thinking about a pair of minis for the kids' hangout space in the basement. Maybe a full HomePod for down there?
Stereo is great but for those who really want it with their Apple TV experience, I really wish Apple would make it possible for us to add at least 2 to 4 more satellite mini’s to a pair of the big ones to make for a an even greater Surround Sound experience. $1000 for excellent Movie sound is not a bad price considering AirPods Max is $549!

I have a question for you and your fellow home automation gurus. My mother is hard of hearing and even sometimes when her iPhone is near her she can’t hear it ringing. As an excuse we can say my daughter lowers the volume of the ringer by mistake when she means to lower the volume for her games. Is there a way to get the iPhone to ring over the apple home pods. I know you can make a call, answer a call from, and transfer a call back and forth to home pod, but is there a way to make all the HomePod ring . Is there something in settings. Maybe an apple shortcut to make. I would really appreciate the help.
I like how you made an actual review explaining the product and your opinion vs just saying “I don’t really understand why this products exists” like every other person
Great video....thanks. One thing I can't seem to figure out is if one (or two) work as Mac speakers. Specifically as speakers/mic for Zoom/Skype/Teams calls via an iMac/Mac Studio. Without routing through my phone. Weird, I can't find anyone who can answer this.
Yes, you can use homepods as speakers for your Mac. Not sure if you can use the Mic on them for input tho. I don't think homepods will show up as input options... only speakers for output.
Great review, we’re all Apple but I don’t think I’d rush out and replace my mini’s with this and would rather use my sound bar even though we use Apple TV on all our televisions. What I would like to see is a comparison between two mini’s vs two Lg Home pods.
When setting up HomePods for kids' room do you use your appleid or the kids? I find that our apple music gets mixed together. Like I'm getting recommendations that are more for my son or my daughter's HomePod won't recognize her find my when she's looking for her devices.
Excellent review, Shane. Love the details provided and reviewed. I’ve come down from my original plan to add 7 of these to just adding 5, and I’m glad I’ve waiting for a panoply of reviews to come in as they’ve made that decision more informed. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the computational audio will do in the master bedroom where the TV is in a corner.
Regarding the stereo pairing for use with Apple TV, have you or any of your followers experienced an issue with the speakers starting to pop and crackle after being used for a while. I had 2 original connected to my Apple TV as a stereo pair and connected via e-arc and would play perfectly and sound fantastic until they would then start crackling and popping and needed to be fully turned of and reset to clear. I have now stopped using them as a to sound system. Just wondered if this was a problem others had experienced and maybe fixed.
Very good Shane. this is the first review I’ve seen with a heavy emphasis on smart home capability. I’m also an audio guy who was a teenager in the 70s and stereos were everything to us. I have a big pair of Klipsch speakers for my primary Soundsystem. But I must say that in any other room, the full size HomePod is awesome. I have two of the OG versions, two minis and two of the new full-size ordered in black. I’m glad they are back on the market and we can replace the originals if needed. But I also want to really expand my smart home in as many directions as possible.
People have mentioned that after a few updates, the HomePod 2 may sound as good as the OG. Since the OG has been out for a while it’s been able to be refined overtime. Make sense to me ✌️
I currently have two HomePods as a stereo pair with my Apple TV 4K. They sound great but I feel like I want more. Would anyone recommend having a stereo pair alongside a single HomePod?
I probably wouldn't recommend that. You're not going to get true surround sound or anything by doing that (unless Apple gives us an update one day to support it) and it would probably mess up the computational audio that makes the stereo pair so good.
@@ShaneCreates Thanks. Like Apple Music, I wish the HomePods had an audio EQ settings menu. Dialogue is clear on the Spectrum app I use for network TV watching. However in apps like Netflix and others even with Dolby Atmos content, the dialogue is slightly lacking.

Should Apple Allow more than a Stereo pairing of HomePods so that you can have a surround set up with front and rear speakers via a software update I will most likely add 2 more to the two OG I have in a paired setup connected to my AppleTv. Thanks for watching. Strictly sound quality alone, the OG may be slightly better. But the new HomePod does have a newer chip for better processing, plus the added smart home capabilities, so it would be better in that way.

I actually said that there is an “improved handoff experience” on this one (not that the OG couldn’t). The first gen could do handoff, but the experience is much better when it utilizes the U1 chip (ultra wideband) which is only in the HomePod mini and this new HomePod.
@@TheDavidPlata For me it’s not so much the cost of the Pod but the thought of replacing an entire house full of switches, plugs and devices that are supported by it.
To costly for speaker that takes 2 HomePods $600 to compare to 1 amazon big speaker $200, I’m an apple fan with all apple products and I logically can’t buy these at this price, good informative video as usual 👍👍
If you have an older tv without an HDMI arc port you won’t be able to use HomePod for tv/cable programming. That was a dealbreaker for me. Sounds good on Apple TV content but won’t work for cable.
As long as Siri isn’t “smart” all Apple Homepods will fail in the long run. I am still flabbergasted that Apple does not comes up to par with the competition
There’s only one “OG”, I’m sticking with it… just got a HomePod mini for upstairs. I used to keep up but Apple is releasing too much for my wallet ;-} Nice review Sir. Thank you.
Why are my HomePod mini’s so stupid? I’ll ask them to shut off a room of hue lights and it will ask which room and go on to name every room. I’ll repeat the room and it again asks which room. Other times they’ll say I’m having trouble connecting to the internet. My phone and watch are flawless at making my commands work. Frustrating!!
@@ShaneCreates I know you mentioned it but it’s a huge feature and one that many many users don’t know exists or understand. It also beats the pants off any equivalently priced sound bar. Not if you include the Apple TV price, but if you already have an Apple TV and just buy the speakers then it’s leagues better than any sound bar at that price point. It’s probably the single biggest reason / market for selling these speakers and most reviews gloss over it or don’t talk about it at all.
Not cheap? THe price was lowered and the spund is up to pair with speakers twice the cost. The only thing it's missing is aux at least bluetooth would be nice but their business strategy removes that from being viable.
He doesn't really touch on it much but this speaker is a downgrade on the audio part and an update on the chip side(bluetooth support, etc) - in short "improved Apple profit margins".

Money grab by apple imo - good video
I want one
As long as Siri isn’t “smart” all Apple Homepods will fail in the long run. I am still flabbergasted that Apple does not comes up to par with the competition
There’s only one “OG”, I’m sticking with it… just got a HomePod mini for upstairs. I used to keep up but Apple is releasing too much for my wallet ;-}
Nice review Sir.
Same, it turns the Apple TV and Tv set on/off but not the lights. It did for the first couple of days but not now. Why?? 🤷🏽♂️
Another review that doesn’t go into detail on the eARC feature which is probably the biggest feature.
Well I did mention it (twice) and I’ve also done a whole video in detail about it which was referenced and linked in this one.
When you look at it from an inflation point of view, it really is about $250 in 2018 dollars. Still don’t think I will be getting any.
He doesn't really touch on it much but this speaker is a downgrade on the audio part and an update on the chip side(bluetooth support, etc) - in short "improved Apple profit margins".
Probably not. I almost bought the original, but they cancelled it. So now I see no reason to by this one.
Thank God another ALL CAPS UA-cam title. This kind of originality is MIND BLOWING.
Shane is actually a great guy. Not his fault that UA-cam algorithm sucks.
