As a design nerd, I like that they updated the packaging to better reflect the product. The Space Grey HomePod on the box looks nothing like the actual product. Great review!
@@olympian3 the colors of the previous and new (for the dark) are almost indistinguishable. Funny how packaging and the almost indistinguishable color difference on just the darker version is the focus here. I love her videos as well but most of what she is saying is exactly the same between the old and new yet the video title is “what is different”. Like the stereo pairing on an Apple TV… doing that on both the old HomePod and the mini. Wish the focus of the video was actually on the differences. Oh and I can use intercom on both versions too which is also not different….. aaahh
Basically, if you have one; don’t replace it just because there’s a new one… but the new one is a great evolution, especially when it’s on sale later this year
I’ve been mostly curious if the sound quality is the same. We’ve had duel 1st Gen HomePod’s left-right channels; one above _hidden_ above the kitchen cabinets by some hanging plants, and the second tucked behind some family photos in the dinning area, and together they’ve just sounded soooooooo amazing for years now. When they were discontinued I was honestly pretty devastated because I eventually wanted to expand these out, but since their return, I just want to know if there’s been any reduction in clarity or complexity of depth. The original’s if you play a ‘Dolby Atmos’ album in spatial audio truly do sound absolutely unreal man.
The Minis will also give you temp and humidity inside your home. Like my Minis (3 in different rooms) but love my original Homepods in stereo. I have not tried them for TV because I have a good soundbar with subwoofer but expect they would be very good.
Decent update. (edit) GREAT review! Genuine experiences > spec reviews. If apple made Bluetooth, wireless version, they might become the bestselling wireless speaker. Love my niece's Homepod mini but it's stuck to where it is. I must say, considering all the cutbacks, surprised it isn't cheaper than it was before BUT if it sounds better, guess that's what really matters...though hindered by Siri a bit.

Good now I know I can save the money n just stick with my old HomePod which I absolutely love after a few software updates and I think the sound quality is superb on it. Two things that will keep me from getting it. It doesn't come in the same colors as the home pod mini and it can't pair with the old homepod. Those are deal breakers for me. Also the old homepod has a stronger presence in its sound compared to the new one. It's just slightly less present in the soundscape of a room.

I have one black homepod mini and one white one for my stereo pair in my bedroom. I have other black homepod minis but idk why I just refuse to switch them out. But they sound amazing paired with a sub via an airport express second gen. I haven't felt the need to replace them with the regular sized homepods.
I still want the mini version. I have a echo dot in my room and I love that but I would like to try the mini, The new home pod is still too expensive. I agree

Very few people bought the original homepods as there was very little one could do with them. They are nice sounding but there’s too much to setup and they are fussy in what they play , including need an Apple Music subscription. My homepods stopped playing many of the free radio stations and I use them to only airplay movies and music . The question is if in the long run one really likes to listen to spatial sound. One shouldn’t forget that there are better and bigger speakers with more natural sound for movies and music which don’t require so much of setup

Honestly the HomePod mini is so awesome and the sound is so good. If you’re looking to not spend as much I’d def go that route.

HomePods are nice but I have a house full of Bang & Olufsen products, including the new Beosound Theatre which I refuse to give up haha.
