@RetiredandLivingthedream Agree, I bought a new 1.8 Nissan Neo VIP automatic from a Nissan dealership in Bangkok back in early 2006. A lovely looking car, beigh leather interior, chrome spoke alloys, reversing sensors, all the mods and still attractive looking today. A relative in BK is still driving it daily today. The Neo name was the Thai version of the UK Nissan Almera, same chassis with some body and grill design variations. I did advise him not to convert it to LPG, but he did, and it eventually burned out the valves. There have been quite a few quid expended on it over the intervening years (gearbox and engine valves overhaul), but it is still driving and looking like near to new today, almost 19 years down the road. Car motored and performed beautifully and was an eye turner. My only grouch - the body work felt a bit light and tinny.

@@RetiredandLivingthedream Hi Les, I agree with you on this. I had an Isuzu truck that was hit side on by a lorry and pushed into concrete roadwork barriers on the other side. It would have been written off in the UK but here the insurance company decided to repair it. I was gobsmacked at the quality of the repair and you would never know it had been in an accident. I sold it soon after and then bought new for the same reasons as you. The body shops do turn out some fantastic work, not easy to spot if a vehicle has been in an accident. Good luck with your search.
We've also got an Almera and it's been a great car, out of them 3 i'd stick with that. The front of the MG was horrible and it looked like it needed bigger wheels.

The Honda's I like are more expensive than the cars we looked at, so they were not in the running because of the price. But Honda is number 1 here in Thailand. Thanks for the comment.
What is wrong with your older Nissan; it didn't seem that old and looks in good condition or have you worn out the paint washing it so often when making vlogs?😃 I am not sure if I would buy a Nissan because it is part owned by Renault and allegedly has financial problems. I would have a look at a Toyota Corolla or a Mazda 3. I would probably buy the 2.0ltr Mazda (non-hybrid) because it has a proper automatic 6 speed gearbox (not a CVT).
The curb appeal of the car the Nissan wins for me, but maybe with a little more money now we know some prices we can up the budget a little. Honda garage this week.
@@RetiredandLivingthedream In my opinion Honda engines are not as strong as they used to be. I have been in Taxis (Toyota Corolla 1800cc) in Bangkok that have done +1 million kilometres on the same engine and gearbox. Try and test drive a Mazda 3 or Mazda CX3. You should consider a Toyota Hilux Double Cab Diesel Pick up because you have the comfort of a car, more comfortable ride due to suspension and tyres, better during flood flashes and you have the back for carrying building materials and they are the same price as a car at 780,000 baht ish.
What a lot won’t know is about Micro Insurance. This is for cars under 10 years old with type 1 insurance where you can get big discount if your doing low mileage. The girl in the Vid referred to below talks about it at the end of the Vid she states it’s for 5,000 Km and that you can carry unused mileage over and big extra in 1,000 Km blocks. Since Vid they also offer it for under 10,000 Km. I looked up an example and normal would be 12,000 for a year insurance, under 10,000 Km 8,400 & under 5,000 Km 4,900. See - Everything About Car Insurance In Thailand PURPLE INS.
@ You will soon find out what insurance is here if you have an accident and deemed to be at fault as you then responsible for blood money if anybody dies, injury compensation and medical bills. First the government compulsory insurance Por Ror Bor pays out to its limit and then above that private insurance. All Types of private insurance also cover a bail bond for any insured driver and there is a reason for that. One case I can remember is a Brit who hit a killed an old man about 4 years ago. He tried to fly out the Country and they stopped him at the airport and put him under house arrest with an ankle bracelet and he started a Go Fund. Hi Les i recently looked at an Almera, I asked for a trade in price for mine which I paid 330000 baht for 2 years ago 50km on the clock which was a decent price at the time, 90000 baht !
Trade in is never a good idea as they don't want your car selling private is the way to go. The book price on my car was 300,000 THB and Honda offered me 130,000 THB against a New Honda City at 749,000 THB You can imagine my reply. Thanks for taking time to comment.
You did better than me Les, book value of mine was 220000 but as I said they offered 90000 against a new Almers, dealers don’t make money on new cars but rely on taking credit like they do in the U.K. I am retired and I won’t get credit nor will my Thai partner, I might look at a car only a year old with low km on it, I don’t really want to go through the rigmarole of selling it privately.
Look nice the MG But made partly in UK sent to China then onto Thailand my friend has had nothing but trouble with his MG dont mean to be a kill joy sorry
Hey Les, we just bought a Toyota Yaris. Smart edition. Replaced our same model, 4 1/2 years old. 594000 baht. Got a great deal. 0 percent financing 4 years, free insurance first year. Body kit half price. Free window film, mats., caners, etc Our other Yaris was great. No problems, 50 mpg. New one seems a bit bigger, definitely more power Great car, check it out.
We used to have Nissan, but unless Nissan pulls a last-minute financially viable magic rabbit out of the hat, then the company is headed for bankruptcy within 12 to 14 months.
Once you've had electric windows, you realise how stupid it would be not to have electric windows and the same is with an auto box, head up display, all the sensors for safety you can get, auto braking, collision avoidance, digital air con, etc. and if that costs an extra Bt100k or more then fine as Bt100k over 5 years is Bt54 a day but you'll get more back for the car when you sell it so why not have all the things you need for the sake of less than £1 a day ?
I am not a fan of all the sensors as they are more things to go wrong. Being a good driver why do you need to be told your too close to the car in front, ( common sense ) Check your mirrors often and you will be ok, watch out as your too close whilst reversing and etc etc. Thanks for the comment though, if we decide to buy then we will look at all the models available.
I think the missus likes the Toyota Les 😂 Personally, I would spend more money on a bigger car. Something like a Honda Accord size. I don’t trust those tiny turbo engines these days
She hated the red interior but liked the shape, as I would be the driver as my wife does not drive it lacked the headroom and difficulty getting in and out because of my height 6'1 I will keep looking.
You will get a VERY bad price for your car if you trade it in. I got an "offer" for my mazda 2 that was 200 000 baht below market price in ford when i asked for a trade in. I understand you will get an lower bid for a trade in but 200 000? Was a joke. Sell it privately if you can. Bought my car for 669 000 baht. 2022. 20 000 km. It is like new. They offered 200 000 baht 😂
Dont agree with you on the sensors binging, worth every penny to have on a car here, blind spot, adaptive cruise control front and rear cameras and emergency stop, the one I turn off is the lane wandering ping....wouldnt go for any of those 3 cars, 1L motor is undersized, nothing under a 1.5L and Japanese.
Don't buy the MG,you ruled out the Yaris I am 6'3 never had a problem driving a standard Yaris the gf had but now I am thinking about the Yaris Cross or the Corolla Cross when I get back to Thailand don't forget Honda
I heard so many bad reports and resale of the MG 5 like in Malaysia I have been told Proton are trouble the Perodua are much better as a local car,as I am think to spent most of my time in Malaysia
During the recent heavy rain and floods, I heard that many MGs ended up in the workshop because they easily took water into the engine. Perhaps the air intake is pretty low? Worth considering nowadays, particularly with the increasing rainfall.
Never would I buy Electric too many problems once you bought it it is yours for life as no one would buy 2nd hand, the battery life is not great. Just my opinion. But thanks for the comment.
Why aren't you going with an EV? The govt is pushing the country to move in that direction and the market is flooded with all types.. Perfect match with the house going to Solar..
Comfort of passengers only as I drive all the time. Sitting for 2 1/2 hrs from the Airport in the back of the Yaris if your head touches the roof is not fun, most of my friends from the uk are all in the 6' feet range. Comfort of others is important.
My car drives really well and am happy with it but 5 years I'm thinking of trading it in for a New car. But it makes sense to hold onto it as it goes well and is reliable.
@RetiredandLivingthedream I know u never liked the Toyota Yaris bought one 3 years ago, hatchback for my g.f great little car, she has done over 60k kilometres in it, its never missed a beat.
Seriously don't understand why your spending 1/2 million bht minimum on an equivalent vehicle albeit New... Total waste of money in my opinion and I bet they didn't offer you more than 250k for your perfectly OK Nissan...Currently given what situation you've shared with us.. There is no need to commit to a fiance deal is crazyness... Just an opinion 🤔
Thanks for the comment, after looking around I am getting to the same conclusion but will make a decision following our Holiday this month. Thanks for watching.
In my humble opinion, you should just drive your good old car that you already paid off instead of getting a new car. No one cares what $20,000 car you drive in your 50s. The old car works perfectly fine, and you will not have to get another monthly payment to make to burden your life. Use the extra money of not buying a new car towards making your wife happy and yourself happy by doing more life experiences like traveling to new places that you two haven't been to yet.
For drive myself but also for comfort of passengers, how can you test for this unless you try yourself. How would you feel sat in the back seat and your head touching the roof for a couple of hrs. Not just the driving needs to be looked at.
@@RetiredandLivingthedream I am ok with the height for my passengers as the majority of them are Thai who are mostly shorter than the average European. I am 6'3" and yes it's not ideal for headroom in the back.
@RetiredandLivingthedream Because car in Thailand is a lot more expensive than car in USA. BMW M4. 8 million Thai baht = 230000 US dollars , In USA only 80000 US dollars you can get this same car. That is why many expats end up buying motorcycle or second hand car in Thailand because they can not afford luxury car.

My neighbour had one that went forever..
Thanks for that, I also think Nissan is too big to fail, and out of all the cars we looked at including Honda City the other day Nissan still wins.🙏😀
Cogratulations to a very beautiful car !!! I love Nissan !!
2nd Nissan and very happy with the reliability.
At about US$20K price point, Honda City, Toyota Yaris and Nissan Almera compete. All three are excellent choices depending on ones preference. Thanks for the vlog.
I think you have summed it up perfectly. Thanks for watching.
Retired! Don't Give Up: Gee Les you picked the smallest Toyota, but to compare prices you had to, the Corolla Cross is the car to own but a whooping million baht for the base and almost 1.2 for the loaded one. but your old one has lots of miles left, our Corolla is 10 yrs with only 140,000 kliks lots left in its tank as well. See you soon
Cheers Dave, we looked at the Basic Corolla struggled to get in and out with the headroom over the door. No good as I get older. The Nissan is still the front runner, we will decide next month after the Holiday.
20 years in the car business....Don't waste ya money ...your car is perfectly fine..you know it's history and what you've spent on it. That other car has been somebody else's problem.
Yep I agree with your statement, Something to consider.
Had MG for 3 years Absolutely Perfect
Thanks for that they do some nice cars.
I get my sealion 7 soon. Can't wait. Avoid the MG5. It's a death trap. Scored a zero out of 5 stars in crash test.
Wow thanks for the info, nice looking car though. Nissan still has the edge looked at the Honda City yesterday . Not for me.
Buy a second hand Honda City (7th gen/after 2019). I rented them in Thailand and they are so nice to drive. Around 500-600k baht new in 2022
I like the new car as then I know the history. I know depreciation but I'll take that knowing the car has not been involved in an accident. Thanks for the comment and for taking time to watch.
799,000 bhat you can get the Mazda BT50 pickup truck
We have no use for a Pickup truck like them but prefer the car. Thanks for the suggestion.
I bought Toyota Veloz last year 900000 baht all mod cons love it
Well done and happy driving. Thanks for watching.
We've also got an Almera and it's been a great car, out of them 3 i'd stick with that. The front of the MG was horrible and it looked like it needed bigger wheels.
It will be my 3rd Almera, impressive car to be sure. Never any trouble and cheap to run.
Rule number 1 Les NEVER sell a car that doesnt have problems
Yes I agree it is going great If I sell it for a fair price then Ill change but that will be in the New Year.
In 2014 I bought a Toyota Fortuner 3L diesel 4x4 it done 160,000 km now and i thing get another 10 years before I think another car, car prices now in 2024 over top, in my lifetime only owned 3 vehicles,1990 toyota landcruser,2012 Nissan patrol, and my Fortuner, 3 vehicles in 34 years and never any big break downs.
Cars are more reliable now for sure. Thanks for taking time to comment.👌
Hi, Les. What about Honda? Services and parts are said to be the best rated in Thailand.
The Honda's I like are more expensive than the cars we looked at, so they were not in the running because of the price. But Honda is number 1 here in Thailand. Thanks for the comment.
What is wrong with your older Nissan; it didn't seem that old and looks in good condition or have you worn out the paint washing it so often when making vlogs?😃
I am not sure if I would buy a Nissan because it is part owned by Renault and allegedly has financial problems.
@johntheaccountant5594 Yep, and plenty of room to fit a solar panel or two on the back!
i might be in the minority, but i liked the MG. Especially the green one! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the comment, never seen that green before. I like Silver but not available on the Almera so would have to be white. Thanks for watching.
The only thing I would worry about is Nissan is going into bankruptcy. Otherwise beautiful car.
What’s insurance? 😂
See - UK Teacher Trying To Raise Cash To Avoid Jail Clive Everall THAI EXAMINER.
Happy hunting Les 👍👍
Thanks, much appreciated.
I have an MG ZS, been 18 months since new, lovely drive. plenty of room.
No resale value
@@chinesecrested9528 I aint selling, it will see me out
Thanks for that info, may you have many years of trouble free driving.
Hi Les. Background music isn’t background. Could hardly hear you.
Wife’s Toyota has been great and running on E20 saves money. Full tank 1100 baht.
My Nissan runs on E20 also and never had a problem, thanks for the comment.
Do they sell new cars with spare tires in Thailand?
Many countries no longer sell cars with a spare tire.
Just curious.
The two cars we seen did not have spare tires.
Look nice the MG But made partly in UK sent to China then onto Thailand my friend has had nothing but trouble with his MG dont mean to be a kill joy sorry
My wife said she herd plenty of bad reports about MG. More thinking to do then. Thanks for the updates.
@@RetiredandLivingthedream I have an MG Les, its brill, no issues
Really like the MG. 😀👍
The cars are very appealing for sure, I don't like all the gadgets more things to go wrong. Basic is best in my mind.
I agree. Out of the three you looked at Les The Almera wins. The MG was nice except for the ugly (to me anyway) Front grille.
Nissan to me has the curb appeal but were looking at Honda this week, a bit concerning about Nissan may be in Trouble here in Thailand.
go for it Almera top. I have one and happy.
I like it very much so will see, visiting Honda in the next few days.
Hi Les get an electric car. That is the future and low maintenance cost. Also you can add more solar and practically drive for free.
Not into Electric cars they have some way to go to convince me they are the future.
Hey Les, we just bought a Toyota Yaris. Smart edition. Replaced our same model, 4 1/2 years old. 594000 baht.
Got a great deal. 0 percent financing 4 years, free insurance first year. Body kit half price. Free window film, mats., caners, etc
Our other Yaris was great. No problems, 50 mpg.
New one seems a bit bigger, definitely more power
Great car, check it out.
Wow sounds like a great deal well done may you have trouble free travel thanks for sharing.👌😀
@RetiredandLivingthedream Hey Les, that deal is in effect till 12/31. You can get it there if you want. Good luck.
When are you ever going to be sat in the back of the yaris
What about the comfort of passengers?
@RetiredandLivingthedream maybe the are not 6 foot 1 and 100kg lol
@RetiredandLivingthedream maybe the are not 6 foot 1 and 100kg lol
Think carefully before you seriously a Nissan with a CVT gearbox google Nissan CVT and you will find all you need to know
2nd Nissan and never had a problem.
We used to have Nissan, but unless Nissan pulls a last-minute financially viable magic rabbit out of the hat, then the company is headed for bankruptcy within 12 to 14 months.
I think Nissan are too big to fail but fingers crossed your wrong. Thanks for the input. 🙏😬
It’s a shame Nissan won’t be around for much longer.
Lets hope they are. Thanks for watching.
How much does Thailand Mobility Scheme give you
As far as I know a BIG 0
Yep the trade in was an insult, Honda was the cheekiest trade it value. I will sell privately.
Affordability when your on a Budget then these cars were all in the price range of my budget. Thanks for your input very much appreciated.
Stay away from the Nissan cvt. I have a 5 speed and it’s a great car. Check out a Honda city.
Thanks for the info were looking at Honda this week.
I ❤ the nissan their more spacious for a big 100kg+ guy I envy you for being in a position to buy a new car go for mate.🇳🇿😀👍
Thanks for the comment, Can't afford cash so Credit it will be.
One litre turbo not big enough
Small but packs a punch so I have been told.
Don't buy the MG,you ruled out the Yaris I am 6'3 never had a problem driving a standard Yaris the gf had but now I am thinking about the Yaris Cross or the Corolla Cross when I get back to Thailand don't forget Honda
Thanks for the info we will have a look at others cars before we make a decision for sure.
Yep Nissans aren't so great or mgs. Toyota or honda are much better quality.
I'd be looking at electric now you got your solar system, MG4 or BYD dolphin around the 600k mark.
No thanks EV are not the way forward in my thoughts.
So how much did they offer for the trade in on your car?
Not enough to do the deal. I will sell it privately.
Do you ride in the back seat of your car sometimes or are you just considering the comfort of future passengers?
Comfort of passengers only as I drive all the time. Sitting for 2 1/2 hrs from the Airport in the back of the Yaris if your head touches the roof is not fun, most of my friends from the uk are all in the 6' feet range. Comfort of others is important.
Just keep the old one most new cars are crap now.
My car drives really well and am happy with it but 5 years I'm thinking of trading it in for a New car. But it makes sense to hold onto it as it goes well and is reliable.
Don’t touch the MG , it will break your heart ❤️
I have herd good and bad about MG also good and bad about Nissan the two cars I have not herd bad things about is Toyota and Honda.
I've heard MG very expensive on parts and servering and not over reliable
Rented a mg5 there shit.
I have herd good and bad on this video about MG. Toyota and Honda win the vote here but affordability comes into play.
@RetiredandLivingthedream I know u never liked the Toyota Yaris bought one 3 years ago, hatchback for my g.f great little car, she has done over 60k kilometres in it, its never missed a beat.
Check ✔️ if been in Flood
Thanks for the info, will do but i'm sure they would not tell you anyway
Seriously don't understand why your spending 1/2 million bht minimum on an equivalent vehicle albeit New... Total waste of money in my opinion and I bet they didn't offer you more than 250k for your perfectly OK Nissan...Currently given what situation you've shared with us.. There is no need to commit to a fiance deal is crazyness... Just an opinion 🤔
Thanks for the comment, after looking around I am getting to the same conclusion but will make a decision following our Holiday this month. Thanks for watching.
คนไทยตอนนี้โดนยึดรถมาก ล้นลานประมูล ถ้าไปหามือสองใหม่ๆ ถูกกว่าเยอะเลยครับ
Go for Toyota more Reliable👍🤘
The only two cars that have had no bad press on this video is Toyota and Honda, that tells me something. Thanks for the comment.
Do you look for a car to drive or to be chauffeured in.
Most expat think Thailand cost of living is cheap but when it comes to buying car. They have to think twice.😅
Why?
@RetiredandLivingthedream Because car in Thailand is a lot more expensive than car in USA. BMW M4. 8 million Thai baht = 230000 US dollars , In USA only 80000 US dollars you can get this same car. That is why many expats end up buying motorcycle or second hand car in Thailand because they can not afford luxury car.
@ Thanks for that, for me the cars here are much cheaper than the UK meaning normal cars not the BMW way out of my price range so no idea on price difference.
@thansri
All imported European cars are ridiculously priced in TL due to taxes, but Asian produced cars are way cheaper than their Westetn equivalents.
@thansri
Only some rich dude dripping in money could afford an M4 BMW in TL. A new three bedroom detached house can be bought cheaper.
Toyota all the way spend a bit more and get an Atlis
Thanks for the info, now we have an idea of price we can look again.
Would never buy a Nissan - noteworthy for their crappy CVT transmissions that fail.
2nd Nissan and never had a problem.
Don’t bye mg Chinese shit
Good and Bad things being said about MG on here.
The question is, do you trust anything from China to be reliable?
Be careful what with Nissan in financial trouble….
That was news to me and thanks for the comment, I am thinking for sure about potential problems in the future.
This Nissan 1.0 Turbo = VERRY bad engine , don't BUY .
On average, a well-maintained Nissan can run smoothly for 200,000 to 300,000 miles, making it a reliable choice for those who value durability and long-term performance. This remarkable lifespan is not just a claim; it's backed by numerous studies and real-world data.Jun 7, 2567 BE
Reliability is a crucial factor for buyers in the market for used vehicles. Nissan has established itself as a brand synonymous with durability and dependability. Among its diverse lineup, several models consistently stand out for their reliability and performance, making them excellent options for your next vehicle.
I have had 2 Almera's and never a problem. But thanks for the comment, I will do more research.
Les ,what about the Honda city ,good engines
We are going to look at the Honda this week. Thanks for the info.
Crap ending you never said what one you're going for or anything about costs???
The prices are all given, did not decide yet but 100% not the Yaris
@RetiredandLivingthedream sorry I ment how much did they offer you for your car? And what's the monthly repayment on finance
I have a yaris(2ND hand) bought it about 2 years ago. It's about 8 years old now and I pay 5400 baht per month for 5 years works out just over 300K In total, just wondered how much they offered you for part exchange your car
Get the Yaris, Nissan going bankrupt.
Yep that was news to me. Hope they don't but will look at Honda this week.
Ifu only need it to get u from a 2bwhy spend big money they r a good price compared to here ur a canny Man U will make the right choice but 😊but good to watch I know when a frarlang goes to buy in thiland the price will go up there not so slow in thiland 😊😊
Trade in is not good so we will sell next year and see if the cash deal is better. Thanks for watching.😀👌
Stay away from the MG, it will spend more time in the garage than at your house !! Stick to Toyota and you cant go much wrong !
It would appear Toyota and Honda win the votes on here.
Don't buy
We will make the decision next month following our Holiday. But as many have said don't buy. Thanks for the comment.
The only thing I would worry about is Nissan is going into bankruptcy. Otherwise beautiful car.
Not herd of that but I will look into this.🙏
Only referring to the EV factories i think 🤔
