Thanks for sharing that! It would seem you both joined very different bands so to speak! I visited Richard's grave last week in Stratford, Ontario. It's been 31 years since he passed away but his and the Band's music will never be old to me!
What a privilege to know Richard as a youth and to have followed his development. You can be proud of your association with this wonderful human being.
@@CryptoGrizzly710 I agree that Robbie took advantage of the other's over zealous bad party habits and pulled the wool over their naive eyes with publishing rights etc. He was/is a gifted writer, but there's no doubt that those guys breathed ALL the life into the songs we still love today.... without them they were just songs and that's why Levon hated JRR to his dying day who happened to show up so near the end, that Levon never knew he was there. What a coward PIS. Long Live The Band in our hearts... Frank
No wonder Robbie's wife became an addictions specialist. I know this old story well, and I struggle to like Robbie at all, despite his musical brilliance or his recent death. But in an indistinct way, I do "respect" him, though I'm not sure why. So out of respect, RIP.
They were both incredible musicians, and great singers. However, when they sang together and blended their voices along with Levon... now that was some fuckn magic. Long live The Band

I agree Washington...I love this man's voice. My heart still breaks to this day over his passing. On Levon's site he states that he is keeping the music alive for Richard and Rick....loved reading this. Both Richard and Rick were multi-talented musicians with awesome voices!

This song sounds like a 20th-century popular standard by Rodgers and Hart, Sondheim..I"m not comin up with the right songwriters' names here, but you get my drift. I just hope it never gets covered by Rod Stewart. Beautiful, amazing, first time I've listened to it. Garth is the wizard, Richard is the magic.
possibly the only chance we will get at hearing Richard behind a "Orchestra" (the magic of Garth) such a damn shame it upsets me I've heard all the guys solo albums they're all great but damn it makes me think what would have Richard done?

As amazing as the first time I heard it on a later Band recording. So beautiful that it hurts and brings me tears, but in a wholly cathartic and satifying way. I sing along to it with my eyes closed and match his lovely worn voice note for note and feel blessed doing so. Thank you beyond proper words to express it to you. :{ )
Something about his voice and beautiful playing...poor Richard, I watched the last waltz last night he was drunk or high in the short clips where he spoke but you could tell he was painfully shy and awkward.

Amazing musician, that was back in the early 80's! Richard and Garth Hudson were working with Ringo on an album called Old Wave, I think.

Richard Manuel could sing anything Ray Charles could sing. A precious voice with magical tones.
Just beautiful. He said in a 1985 his playing and voice were getting back and better than ever. Terrible he started drinking and drugging again.
It's pretty strange to hear Rick and Levon sing a while, and then realize neither of them is the best singer in the band.
