Silco would only waste time calming a child if it benefited him, with the exception of Jinx because of her connection to Vander and Vi. Silco's love for her is genuine, but it was born from something selfish: he saw Powder/Jinx as his past self, when he was alone and hurt, and now he has the power to prove to himself that he chose the correct path by making Jinx go through the same growth as him. If Jinx comes out powerful, then Silco wasn't broken and abandoned, he's strong. If she becomes an unhinged sadist who leads Zaun to ruin by blowing up the council peace talks, as a purely hypothetical example, then he failed and he's just as broken as her.
I love how Silco dresses in red, I was doing research for a character of my own and I learned that noble men in the middle ages would wear red to show their power over death. Something that fits Silco perfectly
I also saw a short made by TBSkyen that showed how Piltover residents dress very formally and symetrically but Zaunites dress weirdly and asymetrically. But Silco on the other hand, he is a Zaunite but his clothes have a lot in common with Piltover's people. He interpreted this as Silco being against Piltover but ultimately wants to be like them, and he brings Zaun along with him.

Sometimes it does both. First you fall prey to the betrayal and descend into an abyss of despair then after a while you wake up, you realise what is happening and why. You memorise it like a cauterised brand from which you return stronger, harsher, wiser. You learn trust is earned and only given as much as needed. You realise that you are the key to your own success and happiness. Others may join you on that journey but they in no way control the way it flows and where it leads.
I know right? He isn't your usual two dimensional villain who became a villain because of something stupid. Silco went through hell, and doesn't want the people of Zaun to go through the same thing, so he dedicates his whole life to liberating Zaun. Although he fights dirty, he fights for a good cause and you're sometimes left to wonder... is he really the bad guy here?

I wouldn't say he's an antagonist, I feel like this show didn't really have an antagonist, everyone just kinda fought each other. It's also kinda hard considering there were like 3 main characters. If the only main character was Vi or Jayce than Silco would be an antagonist but Jinx is a main character too and he isn't an antagonist for her story.

A part of what makes the final scene here work for me is that, when Sevika kills Finn instead of him, Silco's reaction is one of fear instead of confidence. He had absolutely no way of knowing whether Sevika was going to stay loyal or betray him like it initially seemed. That brief moment where he needs to compose himself before proceeding makes him feel so real.

Silco is the type of a man who can accumulate a mountain of corpses to make a better world… and in the very last moment.. when he could grasp the goal he worked for all his life.. he throws it all away for the daughter he loves.. it’s truly poetic.

The first time I saw him I thought “Oh are we going the boring Bond villain route?” and then my expectations were shattered as the show proceeded to give me one of the best complex ‘villains’ in a series I’ve seen since Solas from Dragon Age.

Silco and Vander give me Xavier and Magneto vibes. There end goals are the same but what they're willing to do to achieve that end goal is polar opposite. Not counting(spoiler).
Exactly. Their goal is the same, just the way of them trying to get to that goal is different. Vander wants to solve things in a more peaceful way but Silco on the other hand pursues a more radical and extreme solution. He has a vision and just like he said, he will do anything to achieve it.
The assembly with the chem-barons was ALWAYS my favorite scene. These five, wealthy, powerful, intimidating. But the minute Silco pulls up? There's the power that comes with playing the game, then there's the power that comes with flipping it on its head.
Another Jason Spisak role you can't help but love. All the characters in this show are so complex and human! Silco falling into the EXACT SAME situation he criticized Vander for is a poetic truth that even HE recognized! And it was so wonderfully executed by the writing and performance! It's my FAVORITE thing to see a powerful, coldblooded, highly-capable, ambitious character show a genuine weakness for a loved one, while also still being badass. -fuck he's so hot-
2:00 God, that Marcus scene still gets me. That fake out is all time and is great storytelling for what his mindset is. I can't believe so many people hate him because they missed the point.
Silco's story was written perfectly and informs so much of Vander's own story just by seeing what happens with Silco. the revolutionary gone soft over the love of his adopted daughter. Sacrificing his ambitions for her safety. I'm glad his story ended the way it did, because I knew it couldn't end any other way. It was just as poetic, intimate, justified, and satisfying of ALL the character arcs dependent on it. Because it wasn't just about him, but Powder/Jinx's storyline, Vi's storyline, Vander's storyline all had to be paid off and it was done beautifully.
He is so underrated as a character, everyone just has that mentality of "bad guy = I must hate him". Even though his motives and goals are that of a villain, his whole character revolves around doing anything to achieve power and that imo should be respected (coincidentally respect also happens to be one of his goals). Not liking a character is one thing, respecting a character is something else. This is probably the idea that the show wants us to grasp, as it is further strengthened when he captures Vander and while Silco is talking shit about him, he says "I hated you, but you kept my respect." And yet my friends who hate him still call me a weirdo for admiring Silco, the character that is the embodiment of "You can respect someone and hate them at the same time"... It doesn't get more ironic than this. (also sorry for the long comment but man I really wanted to talk about this)
His goal is the liberation of the undercity from piltover opression. It is decidedly not the goal of a villain. His methods, though are portrayed as villainous, yes.
Also his entire bond with Jinx makes me love him that much more. He is so tender with her. Their hugs were genuine and loving, and he let her do something as dangerous as injecting his eyeball without hesitation, because he trusts her, and she was never scared of him. He never called her a screwup, or yelled at her for making mistakes like the people she grew up with did. When she apologized and said the mistake wouldn't happen again he didn't reprimand her; he simply said "I know" . He trusted her not to make the mistakes again and gave her important jobs knowing those around him had doubts about her. He never thought for a second to replace Jinx or give her up, even for something he worked his whole life to achieve. He was the only one that truly understood and loved Jinx for the way she was. Vi wanted Powder back, Ekko tried to kill her, Milo and Clagger said she jinxed every job, and they shouldn't bring her etc. I don't think Vi is a bad sister, but Jinx couldn't have been expected to give up her father for her. Silco lied to Jinx about Vi, but I don't think he wanted her to leave him; he was just scared to lose the only person he truly loved. He panicked seeing Jinx on that bridge, he showed vulnerability around people who looked up to him as a leader. and It really seemed like he felt guilt after seeing the crystal in her hand. I believe the people that say Silco was manipulative are wrong. He never forced her into anything, he never held her hostage, and he was never cross with her (aside from the normal parent/teen argument), and even told her himself she should take some time off. She didn't want to.
Silco is easily my favorite character so far. He reminds me so much of Askeladd from Vinland Saga; their introductions, their initial facades, their revealed backstories, their affects on the main cast, their fundamental philosophies, and their reverberations on the events of the rest of the story.
WE need him back, I just want SIlco back and for Jinx to be happy 😢 Everyone should start writing letters and signing petitions to let Riot Games know!

Badass is every bit true but I do crack up every time during that last scene, when the glass falls and you see the moment of 'omfgwft'. It's about the most expressive emotion we see on him apart from his occasional bursts of anger. Just a moment of sincere /horror/ because you freaking know he had no idea which side Sev was on before she swung that blade and I don't think she did either.

I mean yeah that's something I noticed too. Viktor, just like Silco, has a vision in mind and doesn't let anything stop him from making it come true. Sickness, uncooperating work partner, Piltover's work ethics... nope. He just doesn't care, the only thing in his mind is THE GLORIOUS EVOLUTION!
Absolutely mind blowing performance. They need to make sure they continue to NAIL the casting for all of their characters, and maintain the quality of the writing.
Silco would give up anything to achieve his dream of an independent city...ultimately however he would never give up Jinx, and thus his ultimate downfall.

He kinda reminded me of Daud from Dishonored. Not so much their skill as Daud is a master assassin and Silco usually doesn't fight people himself, but their look and how they act are pretty similar.
Silco and Jinx are a Masterclass Villainous Father and Daughter villainy-energy (with some good intentions, but bad way and tactics of trying to achieve end goals). His death Absolutely Broke Me beyond my Core, RIP&IP/Rest In Peace & In Power.
In the end Silco was right about power. Azula was born stronger but Zuko did so much thing to achieve that power. And yes he was more powerful in the end
Looks like they didn't. Won't spoil it, but main antagonist from season 2 seems pretty one-note, post Act 1. Act 1 of Arcane ended with "we will show them. we will show them all" so Silco was already magic.
I don't know if I love Silco because of his well written character, badassness, good design, good voice actor, his wholesome father love for jinx, his understandable motives or just because of him straight up being a DILF and me developing Daddy issues
fact is season one was his and jinx's. where you're supposed to be cheering for vi, but she doesn't have much development other than getting with Caitlyn, shes actually along same development as an antagonist/rival with her scenes.
Thats the only thing I'm not that much looking forward in season 2...the spotlight will be on Vi and Caitlyn and their relationship. I found both of them quite boring tbh, and their direct approach of finding a solution to the Piltover/Zaun situation backfired completely didnt it. I just hope they'll place their development into the full story, and make it a little more interesting then in season 1

Where I like to think if Mel survives, SHE'S actually the one to get through to Jinx and it adapts since she'll introduce Jinx to Jayce and leading to Viktor meeting her and both going over knowing Singe, where I feel the weapon development will eventually go to Hextech non lethal rounds and stun modes for their melee weapons, where I just feel Viktor and Jinx could relate so well considering their parallels AND that's why Vi ends up going back to the Lanes with Caitlyn backing her up, not out of "this is my home" malarky and more so to make amends with the City of Zaun. But I bet Riot will cave in and suddenly Vi has a "the hero was right all along" b rated plot, where I still think that Riot originally wanted them to make more mistakes, only because it as very odd for Jinx to kidnap Cait naked and get the same clothes she wears so she can be dressed in the final scene; meaning that Cait originally was supposed to go with and I think Cait was planning to kill Jinx, just for the end to happen with more impact from Cait and Vi's actions. But who knows.

Oh my god, that would be the absolute worst take: the Hero was right from the beginning. But i'm pretty sure they wont go down this road, at least not in a typical black and white scenario. They put so much work already in showing that all characters have a shade of Grey. They would just play themselves. So there's hope i think.
I can't believe they actually made me sad over a character I wanted dead by the end of the first episode. Episode 9 especially showed me he was more than a generic sinister villain. The writers are god-tier.

Have any of you noticed his breathing when Sevika swings her sword, man is actively having a panic attack, he’s panting. His eye is wide. That stroke of his hair is a trauma response, actively trying to hide the fact he’s shaken up. I find it interesting, that if you listen closely you can hear how Silco is breathing (and it isn’t calmly).

@ Poor thing was terrified, he had hope, but yeah, he didn’t have any idea if she would kill him, or protect him. He didn’t even realise he had an audience until the other Chem Baron looked at him. And the speed in which he forced that fear down, was incredible.
I actually wondered if the voice actor or writer or anyone involved in Arcane ever played F.E.A.R. I kept thinking Silco's mannerisms, voice acting, design and (to a certain degree) his motivations seriously reminded me of Paxton Fettel from that game.

The first time I saw him I thought “Oh are we going the boring Bond villain route?” and then my expectations were shattered as the show proceeded to give me one of the best complex ‘villains’ in a series I’ve seen since Solas from Dragon Age.

Well not really. Vander really stopped working to achieve his end goal all together in order to protect his family.
Exactly. Their goal is the same, just the way of them trying to get to that goal is different. Vander wants to solve things in a more peaceful way but Silco on the other hand pursues a more radical and extreme solution. He has a vision and just like he said, he will do anything to achieve it.

The assembly with the chem-barons was ALWAYS my favorite scene. These five, wealthy, powerful, intimidating. But the minute Silco pulls up? There's the power that comes with playing the game, then there's the power that comes with flipping it on its head.
Another Jason Spisak role you can't help but love. All the characters in this show are so complex and human! Silco falling into the EXACT SAME situation he criticized Vander for is a poetic truth that even HE recognized! And it was so wonderfully executed by the writing and performance!
It's my FAVORITE thing to see a powerful, coldblooded, highly-capable, ambitious character show a genuine weakness for a loved one, while also still being badass.

2:00 God, that Marcus scene still gets me. That fake out is all time and is great storytelling for what his mindset is. I can't believe so many people hate him because they missed the point.
Silco's story was written perfectly and informs so much of Vander's own story just by seeing what happens with Silco. the revolutionary gone soft over the love of his adopted daughter. Sacrificing his ambitions for her safety.
I'm glad his story ended the way it did, because I knew it couldn't end any other way. It was just as poetic, intimate, justified, and satisfying of ALL the character arcs dependent on it.
Because it wasn't just about him, but Powder/Jinx's storyline, Vi's storyline, Vander's storyline all had to be paid off and it was done beautifully.

He is so underrated as a character, everyone just has that mentality of "bad guy = I must hate him".
Even though his motives and goals are that of a villain, his whole character revolves around doing anything to achieve power and that imo should be respected (coincidentally respect also happens to be one of his goals). Not liking a character is one thing, respecting a character is something else.
This is probably the idea that the show wants us to grasp, as it is further strengthened when he captures Vander and while Silco is talking shit about him, he says "I hated you, but you kept my respect."
And yet my friends who hate him still call me a weirdo for admiring Silco, the character that is the embodiment of "You can respect someone and hate them at the same time"... It doesn't get more ironic than this.

He is a product of the world around him. He was likely idealistic in his youth, but he has seen how the world works and it angers him.
His goal is the liberation of the undercity from piltover opression. It is decidedly not the goal of a villain. His methods, though are portrayed as villainous, yes.

Also his entire bond with Jinx makes me love him that much more. He is so tender with her. Their hugs were genuine and loving, and he let her do something as dangerous as injecting his eyeball without hesitation, because he trusts her, and she was never scared of him.
He never called her a screwup, or yelled at her for making mistakes like the people she grew up with did. When she apologized and said the mistake wouldn't happen again he didn't reprimand her; he simply said "I know" . He trusted her not to make the mistakes again and gave her important jobs knowing those around him had doubts about her.
He never thought for a second to replace Jinx or give her up, even for something he worked his whole life to achieve. He was the only one that truly understood and loved Jinx for the way she was. Vi wanted Powder back, Ekko tried to kill her, Milo and Clagger said she jinxed every job, and they shouldn't bring her etc. I don't think Vi is a bad sister, but Jinx couldn't have been expected to give up her father for her. Silco lied to Jinx about Vi, but I don't think he wanted her to leave him; he was just scared to lose the only person he truly loved.
He panicked seeing Jinx on that bridge, he showed vulnerability around people who looked up to him as a leader. and It really seemed like he felt guilt after seeing the crystal in her hand.
I believe the people that say Silco was manipulative are wrong. He never forced her into anything, he never held her hostage, and he was never cross with her (aside from the normal parent/teen argument), and even told her himself she should take some time off. She didn't want to.
I do not think he is underrated at all
I think for a lot of people he is the best character of the show.
He stills the show in every scene he is.
Silco is easily my favorite character so far. He reminds me so much of Askeladd from Vinland Saga; their introductions, their initial facades, their revealed backstories, their affects on the main cast, their fundamental philosophies, and their reverberations on the events of the rest of the story.
SAME I hated Askeladd at first and loved him when he inevitably died, same with Silco as well.
WE need him back, I just want SIlco back and for Jinx to be happy 😢

Badass is every bit true but I do crack up every time during that last scene, when the glass falls and you see the moment of 'omfgwft'. It's about the most expressive emotion we see on him apart from his occasional bursts of anger. Just a moment of sincere /horror/ because you freaking know he had no idea which side Sev was on before she swung that blade and I don't think she did either.

Looks like they didn't. Won't spoil it, but main antagonist from season 2 seems pretty one-note, post Act 1. Act 1 of Arcane ended with "we will show them. we will show them all" so Silco was already magic.
I don't know if I love Silco because of his well written character, badassness, good design, good voice actor, his wholesome father love for jinx, his understandable motives or just because of him straight up being a DILF and me developing Daddy issues

fact is season one was his and jinx's. where you're supposed to be cheering for vi, but she doesn't have much development other than getting with Caitlyn, shes actually along same development as an antagonist/rival with her scenes.
Thats the only thing I'm not that much looking forward in season 2...the spotlight will be on Vi and Caitlyn and their relationship. I found both of them quite boring tbh, and their direct approach of finding a solution to the Piltover/Zaun situation backfired completely didnt it.
I just hope they'll place their development into the full story, and make it a little more interesting then in season 1
@@nape8198 Yeah, I still like to think Caitlyn will have the SAME situation with Jayce where her parents are against Vi for her actions as well as the Gov't. Where I like to think if Mel survives, SHE'S actually the one to get through to Jinx and it adapts since she'll introduce Jinx to Jayce and leading to Viktor meeting her and both going over knowing Singe, where I feel the weapon development will eventually go to Hextech non lethal rounds and stun modes for their melee weapons, where I just feel Viktor and Jinx could relate so well considering their parallels AND that's why Vi ends up going back to the Lanes with Caitlyn backing her up, not out of "this is my home" malarky and more so to make amends with the City of Zaun. But I bet Riot will cave in and suddenly Vi has a "the hero was right all along" b rated plot, where I still think that Riot originally wanted them to make more mistakes, only because it as very odd for Jinx to kidnap Cait naked and get the same clothes she wears so she can be dressed in the final scene; meaning that Cait originally was supposed to go with and I think Cait was planning to kill Jinx, just for the end to happen with more impact from Cait and Vi's actions. But who knows.

Have any of you noticed his breathing when Sevika swings her sword, man is actively having a panic attack, he’s panting. His eye is wide.
That stroke of his hair is a trauma response, actively trying to hide the fact he’s shaken up. I find it interesting, that if you listen closely you can hear how Silco is breathing (and it isn’t calmly).

Here's the other thing, I noticed. He manages to handle his trauma when it comes to his tie.
I actually wondered if the voice actor or writer or anyone involved in Arcane ever played F.E.A.R. I kept thinking Silco's mannerisms, voice acting, design and (to a certain degree) his motivations seriously reminded me of Paxton Fettel from that game.
The voice sounds similar, though Paxton Fettel creeped me out so much playing FEAR.
