Silco is the best form of villain; You don't want him to win, but you don't necessarily want him to lose either.
Speak for yourself, I was rooting for him the whole time. 😂
@@vincentrees4970 bro stg😂💯
It really is potent because both Vander and Silco are hoping for the same thing, and yet are going about it in the absolutely opposite way.
Vander wants to preserve the undercity at all costs, and he does so by making contracts with the police of Piltover. He preserves the immediate lives sort of, but doesn't do anything about the deep-rooted issue that is actually killing his people; the mines are still toxic, the runoff is still toxic, his people are still being poisoned and dying. He's trying to preserve the present for the sake of the future.
Silco, on the other hand, is sacrificing the present for for the sake of the future. His plan probably would have worked- hell, it almost DID work. By flooding the undercity and piltover with Shimmer, the undercity had the most to gain, since they would get the strength and health boost that it offers even while it becomes addictive. Piltover, which already has the finest medicine and feels powerful, would only feel the negative effects of shimmer, and would therefore be broken down and rendered susceptible to the undercity's guerrilla assaults. However, the negative effects of shimmer as well as all of the backlashes from Piltover after every attack are not to be shrugged off easily by a populace that is already starving and struggling to survive.
Mostly I want him to get anti-psychotics for his daughter
So many learn their lesson too late
“Unfortunately I’m a huge fan of League of Legends”😭 I love this guy so much
Poor Evil Eye...
lol.
Over
This was also was my favorite line
As a league player, i relate.
Unfortunately I'm also illegal Legends fan
*“I never would have given you to them… not for anything.”*
His death hit absolutely hard. To start off as a full villain who would burn down the world and everyone in it only to then be humbled into being a father who’d throw his dreams away rather than give up the one thing that would get him what he’s been fighting for his entire life. Is there anything so undoing as the unconditional love of a parent?
What allways gets me is, Silco allways said "Jinx is perfect" but in the End he told Jinx that "You are perfect"
I think the scene where he talks to Vander's statue was one of the best character moments in the series
@@simonhartig7156To manipulate her! His weapon is obviously perfect? HE made it!
“Unconditional love,” if he actually cared about her, he wouldn’t selfishly hold onto her and tried to murder Vi and lie to her. But,‘okayyy!
He hates Powder, not so… unconditional. He likes his weapon.
@palemeadowsJoel from The Last of Us comes to mind. Loving someone can still mean behaving selfishly
Power, real power, doesn't come to those who were born strongest, or fastest, or smartest. No. It comes to those who will do anything to achieve it.- Silco, Really helps sum up his outlook on life.
“Power is power”
He is an idiot
Reminds me so much of Griffith from Berserk
Why spend years developing power when you can simply take it?
“Time to let the monster out”
"I would have had your son killed for this. Though I suppose we’re ahead on that account." - Silco
🤣
I loved Arcane so much, the characters are near perfect. Silco didn’t even feel like a villain but an antagonist proper, hero to their own narrative, and actually fighting injustice and oppression, thought not above it himself. I also love how he recognizes in Jinx the embodiment of what Zaun is: broken, abandoned, chaotic that has formed a sleeping “monster” capable of doing great things
I loved it too. Aka "Several angry steampunk folk who can't stop loving and hating each other"
The child murderer … didn’t… okay!
When did he fight what. HE CAUSED IT???
beautifully said
I love that in his last moments he didn’t say the old and overused “I never loved you” or “destroy them all” he only wanted to tell her how much he loved her and that she was more important than his dream. That's a father right there.
He was the father that Jinx wanted, but not the father that she needed
how so? when her connection to her sister was much stronger than the want for a family??
to add on to that silco and jinx's connection to each other was absolutely the worst.
silco loved jinx for the things she could do for him that furthered his presence and power
while jinx had someone she could be emotionally attached to in order to fight her own loneliness and pychosis.
@@evahngelions That´s kind of my point, he loved her, he genuinely loved her, but it was a toxic love and we only saw that he molded her into what he believed was best for her, not to mention that he did it just to identify with her more than anything.
I'm referring to the fact that he was a "father" that she wanted, one who counted on her and who loved and allowed her everything, but in doing so he didn't help her mental problems at all that only got worse, so your arguments only prove my point exactly. He was a father who loved her, but their relationship wasn't healthy at all and he wasn't a good father, not even a decent one
@sebastianaristizabal3871 and that's my point. he did not love HER. he loved what she can do. those two things are definitely not the same. it's really odd that people call manipulators paternal figures.
@@evahngelionsNot true actually, Silco had no use for Jinx strategically or logistically. The only reason he kept her around was because of genuine love and attachment.
@@evahngelions Well to be fair he was REALLY sincere when he was scared For her. He was manipulative, a bad father, with a sick love because he made her that way but i think that love was genuine, fucked up, but sincere
I mean, it that was true, he would have betrayed her and give Jinx to Zaun but he didnt
Silco is one of the best-written villains I’ve ever seen. I love how layered and complex he is, plus it always helps he has redeeming qualities.
Silco never hated Vander. While he did see him as an obstacle he respected the man Vander was before He became a father figure. Silco wanted to use his drug to gain control and to gain the power to free the undercity from piltover he didn't realise that his methods broke the very city he wanted to build.
Not only that, after practically raising powder he finally understood why Vander threw his ambitions away for of couple of kids. After all, is there anything more undoing than a daughter?
But he did hate Vander. He had to hate him. He even says so in episode 3. But yeah, he never stopped respecting him.
EXCELLENT WORK. THE VILE EYE 👁🗨 ARCANE SILCO
This isn't exactly true. Silco *DID* hate Vander, and admitted as much in episode 3. _"Oh, I hated you for you did, but you kept my respect."_
The two feelings aren't mutually exclusive. You can respect your enemies, even if you hate them.
He does lol
The fact that i genuenly had to ask myself if he is truly evil shows how well this show is written
He's objectively evil and that's okay.
He's evil, but he's in a completely cruel and horrific world and circumstance, it produced him, and he and that same world eventually produce Jinx, it creates its own Adversary.
But yeah, he's definitely well written. So well written that we as an audience can understand his motives and empathize with his character despite him being undeniably evil.
his motivations werent evil ...its just the way he goes about it
@@HK-gm8pe pretty much
"Don't cry, you're perfect." 😢
Ever wonder what it's like to drown? Story of opposites. There's peace in water. Like it's holding you, whispering in low tones to let it in. And every problem in the world will fade away.
But then, there's this thing... in your head, and it's raging. Lighting every nerve with madness. To fight. To survive.
And all the while this question lingers before you: "Have you had enough?"
It's funny. You could pass a lifetime without ever facing a choice like that. But it changes you forever. For that I thank you... old friend.- Silco. My favorite quote lf him. Really illustrates his character
This show's writing is on another level🤯
a guy drowned me in the sea when i was 12, the most transformative experience in my life!
😢😢😢@@henrikbelden7335
It's insane how well written every character in Arcane is, and Silco has gotta be one of my favorite villains out of a show in recent memory. His presence going forward in the show will definitely be missed, and I hope we'll learn more about him in Season 2!
one of my favorite scenes with Silco is the attempted coup in his office with Finn, Renni, and Sevika. even as Sevika stands over him, blade drawn, he is calm, cool, and indirectly reminds her he believes in loyalty. what I find especially captivating is that immediately after Sevika kills Finn, Silco briefly shows vulnerability; he was genuinely scared that his right hand man might betray him and after the shock, he's relieved, but immediately snaps back to the Silco who's in control, who's fearless. it's so easy for a scene such as that to leave out any "weakness" and simply have the villian be nonchalant and fearless, but Silco showed fear, shock, and relief, which is so damn compelling and just another in the thousand of reasons of why this show is a masterpiece
I know he loved Jinx. He saved her life, and upheld her above himself, but he doomed her.
eh she was doomed from the start, she wasn't "built" for this world, and thus got remade into what she is now, it was inevatiable, either death, or becoming this.. rage filled thing.
@@keithfilibeck2390 I like to think that there’s hope for everyone, even a well-intentioned and compassionate child who has to live with the guilt of committing manslaughter against her family. She certainly could have joined Ekko if not for the self-hatred and guilt. However Silco took her down the path that she couldn’t return from. A child soldier who seemingly takes pleasure out of causing chaos and destruction toward others. That you can’t come back from even if it’s not fair.
@@DarkEclipce
Powder was a bright, compassionate soul with some mental illness and a streak of misfortune. Powder could have become anybody. You’re right, though. Because she was led down one path. She became Jinx, a sympathetic character, yes, but also a person who revels in destruction and terror.
She had so much hope, an ocean of untapped potential, and it was dashed. That’s what makes a fantastic character.
He loved Jinx more than her sister...her sister left her for Caitlyn...didnt even shed a tear watching her sister die....while Silco ran towards her and did everything to save her life
@@HK-gm8pe That's obviously not what happened. Vi didn't "choose Caitlyn over her sister." Caitlyn needed medical attention, they had to get that Hexcite crystal to the council in order to prevent increasing conflict with the enforcers, and Jinx literally almost killed them both _seconds_ prior. Vi had absolutely no reason to talk to her sister at the end of episode 7, because that would've meant irresponsibly risking the lives of herself, Caitlyn, and Ekko. Even if she tried to talk to Jinx, she almost certainly wouldn't have listened to her, and Ekko would've just told Vi to shut up and leave anyway.
Context matters. Had Jinx not bombed the bridge, and had Marcus not nearly killed Caitlyn, Vi would've went back to find her sister. She was ready to say goodbye to Caitlyn for good in order to find Jinx, and then the situation fundamentally changed.
YES! Silco is easily one of the best villains ever imo. The concept of an antagonist who actually loses interest in his main goal because of his love of daughter, was just so profound to me. He’s a cruel bastard, but he never felt cartoonishly evil. All of his crimes were well thought-out and competent, but in the end, it was his own personal growth and humanity which ended his reign. He’s such a fantastic character.
Silco's death was the final nail in the coffin to help create the Jinx we all know today.
Silco was ready to kill Powder, but then Powder hugged him, not knowing that he was going to kill her. Powder told him that she was abandoned by her last family. Silco took pity on Powder and took her in.
I noticed that too. It’s really nuances and sudden changes in the heart that made silco one of the realest villains out there
I think it's more complex... less pity - more *affinity*. Someone whose defining moment he thought he understood, and who would understand his.
It was two things: seeing himself in Powder, but also the fact that Silco was obviously a deeply lonely person. He had been quite predatory up until she lunged at him and hugged him. He was both literally and figuratively taken aback. Watch his face and you can see him processing the emotional shock, like he's flooding with oxytocin and utterly baffled by the feeling. And then, of course, what Powder tells him suddenly makes everything make sense.
Incidentally, I think an element of Arcane that goes a little overlooked is how often they emphasize how powerful physical touch can be. Vi touching Jinx on the arm in Ep. 6 was intense and jarring. Cait touching Vi on the cheek in Ep. 7 was tender and loving. And of course, Jinx was often uncomfortably clingy with Silco. They were codependent not just because of their mutual abandonment issues, but also because neither one could imagine someone else loving and holding them (in a familial sense or otherwise).
@@BlackShardStudio Yeeeeah now that you mention it, I know they’re relationship was familial and platonic but I remember noticing how older Jinx was kinda “handsy” with Silco. Like that scene of Silco asking Jinx why the first job with Sevika was botched and how Jinx was getting REALLY close to Silco, gentIy caressing his face, boarder line sitting on his lap. It felt weirdly intimate and honestly, a bit sensual. That’s why I was always kinda suspicious of their relationship (Atleast on Jinx’s half of it). But hey that’s just another layer to their complex relationship
@@dforman4770 honestly for me it was only weirdly sensual the first watch, the more I closely look at it the less sensual it seems. It was definitely made to give that impression on first viewing. But look closer, Jinx isn't caressing his face, she's just putting her hand on his neck and about to use the eye stabber before getting distracted. she sits on the table but it's made to have the audience mistake it for her sitting on his lap, but this position is just the result of her taking the shortest path from sitting curled up on the table to being able to reach Silco's eye. Then there's the baptism scene where Silco leans in towards Jinx, the background is solid gray and the camera is tracking them so you can't see the movement of him lowering Jinx into the water. This is done for just a second, enough to mess with your mind, and then you see the clouds and register what's going on. Super intentionally deceptive.
It is my belief that they intended for the audience to see past their tricks after watching it closely or watching it several times. what it is is that Jinx and Silco's relationship is completely familial and Jinx is weird and touchy sometimes.
A man who lived as a monster, died a father who loved his daughter.
Silco was a very engaging villain for season 1, so much in fact that his absence in season 2 will be noticed, at least in scenes after his death, as there could be flashbacks to his life with Vander in their youth.
Silco is such a cool villain, someone so evil and we got to watch father hood change him to someone more sympathetic.
Legitimately one of the best villains ever, at least in the current age.
This is unironically my favorite channel. Thanks For this! This is one of the BEST adaptations of all time
Adaptation? Talking about arcane? I wouldn’t call it an adaptation. Taking a couple elements of lore isn’t adapting it. They made their own show with essentially no source material outside of a few characters and the setting.
It’s a weird line for me…I don’t think I’d call it an adaptation, but idk what else to call it aside from its own show.
@@owlson2527 I´m pressing X to DOUBT
@@owlson2527 whoaaa he shifted positions in the chair between cuts? AI confirmed! 🤯🤯
Just a note, Arcane was made canon by the lore merge they had at the end of last year or the beginning of this year
Yeah they have been super quiet on that front ever since they announced it, I suspect they are working up a final lore retcon to make everything make sense/canon but we will see. Then theres my poor dying child LoR who continues to bring us so much world building through their cards. If they kill that off I'll lose a part of my soul!
@@revendax2584 They kinda already did that with Skarner rework, don't really need more retcons than that, the bracken were the biggest inconsistency but since they don't exist anymore they really don't need to change anything (maybe just Camille story)

Analyzing Evil: Handsome Jack from the Borderlands Series
Yes please, he's an awesome character turned villain after too much betrayal
Silco is the best character in Arcane and he’s a completely original introduction to the universe. Superbly written and performed. Seeing his eyes when Vander choked him humanized him in such a way that he’s remained with me ever since seeing the show. Amazing video as always and thank you again.
I’d like to recommend Master Xehanort from Kingdom Hearts. A scheming megalomaniac whose light was twisted into darkness.
Frieza, Grievous then Silco, you’re really treating us Vile
Love isn’t enough to make a relationship healthy…
FINALLY!!! I'VE BEEN WATCHING YOUR STUFF SINCE PALPATINE AND ALWAYS WANTED YOU TO COVER THIS GUY!
I think one of the most interesting things about Silko (this may be my interpretation) is he never overcome is troma (even if he says the opposite). When you look at him a could have killed Vander earlier but a want to show him he was a monster (if he overcome his troma he have just to kill him) and he was incapable of becoming attached to anyone except the person who has the same troma as him.
Without even noticing it, he teaches Jix to repress her emotions, which is the worst thing to do (it makes their relationship really interesting I think)
Sorry for the spelling mistakes I'm not English 😕
what is troma ?
Every good thing Silco ever had was from people who he showed kindness towards. Jinx gave him a feeling of family after he sympathized with her and raised her as his daughter. Sevika was willing to back him to the hilt after he gave her the opportunity to fight for her freedoms. Singed was more of a work friend than anything, but the scene where Singed knocked Silco out to spare him the pain of watching Jinx undergo surgery comes across as sympathy to me.
I’ve been waiting for this one for quite a while. One of my favorite villains in all of media.

Analyzing evil: Judith from Two and a half men
And guess what Judith is more a real life character than a fictional one which tells you how fucked society is.
“Surprise from above is never as shocking as from Below!”
Been waiting for this one, Silcos one of the best villains in recent years.
Wow, Silco, his organization, and ambitions make a great metaphor for our times.
I want to know your reaction to seeing Silco in the alternate timeline as a good man that made up with Vander. All it took was VI to get killed and Hextech to have never been invented forcing Piltover to uplift the the undercity for economic prosperity rather than leaving the undercity to ruin as they used the Hexgates to become rich.
All it took was for Silco to read Vander's letter and forgive.
"Didn't you try to kill him?"
"The greatest thing we can do in life is to find the power to forgive"
Silco's death was likely a huge relief tae him. He had everything he ever wanted in his grasp, but the cost was one he was unable tae pay.
He was starting tae dread being assassinated and failing.
That music from the editor was a bop
Been a follower of you content for awhile now and this is the villain I've wanted to see you cover the most.
Heck yeah! Arcane was my favorite show of that year, glad to see Silco featured. Weird request for a next episode, but could an analysis be on the characters and themes of Starship Troopers?
The bugs are evil and the humans did nothing wrong. Done.
Looking forward to Season 2! This show is literally moving concept art
I've been avoiding this episode of Analyzing Evil, but having watched Arcane, I found Silco very interesting and "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" applies to him and everyone else in the series. Now to watch all those episodes until I understand why all this triggered my PTSD so severely.
Jinx was the closest thing Silco had to a daughter.
Why is the single most blatantly obvious, surface level statement the top comment?
Like, this isn’t an observation, it’s just what happens in the story.
No duh
Silco was my favorite character in the show, I'll admit tears were shed when he died

they recently made an update to the lore and now everything they release is canon, and in that video they said that Arcane is now the canon story of cait vi etc..
Silco fell victim to the classic blunder- thinking he was above emotions. Only to get smacked in the fact with em
The reason he loved Jinx so much was because she healed his wound caused by Vanders betrayal. He realized why Vander did what he did and Jinx gave him what no one could closure and love, he died at peace.
Arcane is officially canon, and from now on League of Legends lore is going to stop contradicting itself all over the place, says Riot. Key art for Riot's Arcane.
Excellent analysis, loved the video. Silco is one of my all time favorite villains and I think one of the best modern examples of a tragic villain
Just coming back to ask - are you considering doing videos on any of the season 2 villains? I bet people are already asking for Ambessa and Viktor, but I'll also suggest Singed, who may be a bit overlooked but whom I find fascinating in how subtly he navigates every other character.
YES FINALLY, IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ANALYSIS!!!
How fitting. I watched Arcane not long ago around the end of March only for this come out not long after.
Vile Eye posting about one of my favourite villains? Today is a good day.
Definition of desperate times make a desperate man.
With all the ads for Raid, WoT etc., it's very refreshing to see a creator endorse the work of another creator he enjoys. Very nice, appreciate it.
Analyzing Evil: Dr. Jonas Venture Sr. of "Venture Bros."
I'd love to see you cover Mel Medarda once season 2 has come out because while not as villainous as Silco, she definitely has done her fair share of bad things and only seems to realize it once her mother returns and she gets to look at the thing she was becoming.
Handsome Jack from Borderlands would be a great evil to analyze next.
I loved the scene when powder hugged Silco because when you see his reaction you see him seeing himself on powder like a mirror
1:04 love 80s music too great video analysis of this character
Great video. Next video should be about Abijah Fowler from Blue Eye Samurai, another animated show on Netflix that’s worthy of praise
This is an excellent summary of this character and the world - building surrounding those he encounters. Thanks for the video! Best wishes to you from Iceland!!
I think you should do one on jinx too since she’s arguably just as much of a villain in this story as she is a main character
Once Season 2 Arrives, a video on Jinx is to be expected. In the meantime, we shall draw our own thoughts and conclusions of the character.
No way! Thank you. I was going to actually ask for this character. Could you do Grand Admiral Thrawn in on your videos, please?
OH YES, I'VE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS!
silco is such a fantastic villain to such a fantastic show
I would love to see a video on The Ghoul from the Fallout Amazon Prime show. The contrast between the sweet and caring Cooper Howard, now eroded from the countless years surviving in the wasteland turning him into the cold apathetic character of The Ghoul.
YOu could probably say Silco was an extreme anti-hero, a person fighting for their cause but willing to do anything to achieve their goal.
I think ruthless murder, terrorism, child slavery, and oppression of innocent people via drugs and fear would definitely qualify someone as a villian. Just because we understand him and he has a noble end goal doesn't make him an anti-hero. No amount of good intentions can justify the atrocities he committed. He is by definition a villain.
"Unfortunately, I am a fan of League of Legends"
Overwatch fans know how you feel bro.
I didn't play League of Legends so I didn't have any baggage or context before watching this. And although not a huge anime buff either, I loved this show. It has such well-written and voice-acted characters.
I only joined your channel a few months ago so have so much of your back catalogue to go through. I follow a lot of channels that cover TV and movies, including ones that break down scenes and characters specifically. As enjoyable as they all are, few channels delve into the real-world psychology, biology or physics that can really bring characters to life and not just take them at face value.
Analyzing Evil: Humbert Humbert from Lolita
This was so good. A lot of Arcane commentators on UA-cam are fans of characters to the point where they lose any ability to give impartial and interesting insights that honor the complexity involved
"What makes you so qualified to analyze villains and evil?"
"I play league of legends."
"So?"
"For fun..."
"Jesus Christ"
Fuck yeah! I waited for this video almost as hyped up as for the second season.
the whiplash in the first 15 seconds of his eye switching places tho
Lol yes he just doesn't look the same...
Arcane *is* part of the official canon now, riot came out and said as much
Silco is my favorite fictional Narco Terrorist
Analyzing Evil: Naraku from inuyasha would be a dope villain to cover
Arcane is just a goated show.
Not even a minute in and you can be sure this dude knows league cause he disclaimers it with “ _unfortunately_ I am a huge fan of league of legends” … I feel that
WE NEED AN UPADATE!
Silco wasn’t mad that the mob grew fat and complacent, he was mad that they weren’t fat and complacent under HIM.
I do like how Silco adopts Jinx as he never has a daughter of his own
I thought Vander giving up the fight across the bridge was what caused the fight with Silco. I imagine him going rabid at the thought of giving up that fight, and saying he'll go over Vander's decision and like you said probably use more drastic measures which probably made Vander feel he had to physically put him down. Maybe he suggested using kids in factories like he ended up doing.
Looking forward to your update of this video. Blisters & Bedrock 🥃
One thing to add, Riot already changed their stance over Arcane and it's now the main canon as they plan to everything they release to be part of the same universe.
Silco is a fantastic character, probably my favorite from Arcane. I really like how he is deeply flawed as both a man and a father, but is very clear how much he cares about his city and even moreso how much he loved his daughter. A really great villain.
Would be cool to see a video on Unicron from the Transformers franchise!
I love Arcane, and Silko
Analyze the evil of
The Fairy Godmother from Shrek 2
Ursula from the Little Mermaid
Jafar from Aladdin
Hades from Hercules
Captain Hook from Peter Pan/Hook
Rameses from The Prince of Egypt
Silco is like the perfect embodiment of the phrase "One Man's Terrorist is Another Man's Freedom Fighter", and how sometimes, you can be both.
His cause truly might have led to real change, but at a cost that only hurt the people he was fighting for.
In today's world, we have seen this time and time again...groups who desperate people turn to in hope of a life free from oppression, at a terrible cost.
El Salvador, Iran, Zimbabwe, and the current war in Gaza are all examples of this. Wars where most of the violence is carried out by hegemonic powers, but where the actions of those who rose up led to hideous results, as we see Silco carry out with his use of Shimmer and his treatment of others.
Difference being that Silco never felt the need to take young girls as sex slaves, unlike Palestine. He was a straight fighter and killer. I can respect that. Can't respect degenerates who hurt people just to satisfy themselves.
I know literally nothing about league of legends and this may be my favorite work in of art of all time.
Arcane is just such an intricate story and I can't believe people were able to make a story so good.
There's one thing to point out: Jinx is way closer to how he wants his people to be than what he himself is! She's pretty much the polar opposite of him and he's in many ways closer to his own enemies.
I don't know why, but he even has some of their mannerisms.
He does realise it and it may be even with self-hatred.
This ties in to his infamous last words...
Good observation. And you're correct that Silco very much immatates the top siders in terms of his mannerisms and speech. Even his clothes are more fancy and symetrical than any other outfit in Zaun (he's also the only undercity character we see that cann afford to apply makeup every single day).
wonder if he's gonna update this analysis now that season 2 is done...
Silco not understanding where Vander came from to pouring one out for his Brother because he finally gets it
Peak
They are currently reworking the lore so everything can be canon including Arcane so this likely means some champions stories will be edited to fit Arcane's story better.
If they continue to adapt the Dune novels they should hire this studio to make it into an animated series
