  • This presentation is intended to challenge its hearers to evaluate their current methods of communicating for the purposes of saving time and emotions, as well as increasing the effectiveness of one’s communication. Effective communication can be defined as the delivering of information that is accurately received, in the least amount of time, without being an emotional burden. We can conserve our time, which is our greatest asset, by effectively communicating. Marcus Alexander Velazquez is a public speaker, event host, musician, actor, author, voice-over talent, and screenwriter. His music has been publicly endorsed by the likes of Former United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Anita Padilla of Fox News. He has also been interviewed by Univision and Elizabeth Czapski of the Chicago Sun-Times regarding his positive music. He is an avid mental health advocate, having been through 3 years of counseling to navigate the ins and outs of his own childhood traumas. He's been an Assistant Trainer for a Leadership Development company and currently serves as a Disciplinarian at Mansueto High School in Chicago - a Noble Charter Network school. Throughout all of his ventures, he is focused on renewing the minds and hearts of everyone he comes into contact with. Marcus' hope is that his life experiences will allow him to gain rapport and trust with audiences around the world so that he may speak into their lives. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

    1. To be understood, not heard. Speak with the purpose of understanding and feeling not just hearing.
    2. Don’t be verbose, try to explain with minimal words in a simple manner because it’s about your audience.
    3. Einstein said try to explain most complex things in a simple manner. Act like that
    4. Be an active listener. Try to include questions in your communication
    5. Save energy, save words, save emotion, save relations.
    6. Try to identify what you speak to whom. Understand your audience.
7.Your actions nullify or promote what you preach. So, it’s important to have a good reputation. Your words fall flat if audience has no trust in you.
    Apologies if anything is missing.

And both parties has to have interest . The speaker must be interested in his subject .
The listener , on the other hand , has to be interested in what is being said . Without interest the meeting is just catharsis of the mouth vocalizing to a brick wall.

Speak for yourself. Maybe YOU can always be wrong, but not me. I take the time to research & make sure what I’m saying is factual before I just spew out a bunch of nonsense.

I would politely disagree about #2. Each time we speak, it involves us in some way so it is always about us as well - being understood involves communicating. That's what makes it so powerful - it's always personal for primary or secondary internal reasons. It is always important to check on understanding with the listener and clarify in both directions - speaker and listener - to arrive at a place of mutually shared clarity.

Awesome. 1. Communication is a 2-way street 2. Its only successful when audience are able to receive and understand the message. 3. Be humble while at it 4. Its not about you. 5 Tonality matters.

    Exercises & Reflection Questions
    1. How often do you use the phrase ‘if it makes you feel better’?
    2. How can you better validate others’ experiences?
    3. What other methods might you employ to help others feel grateful in trying times?

    • @lucy7917
      @lucy7917 3 роки тому +5

      1. Quite often - especially when talking to friends who may be upset or experiencing something unpleasant - 'well if it makes you feel any better then, X comparison'
      2. By being empathetic. By not comparing another's experience with something I have been through in an attempt to deflate what they are experiencing. By simply listening to the person without trying to interject my own comments and thoughts.
      3. Remind people that they are doing their best and their best is all that matters. Life is never easy but the sun always rises in the morning and tough times never last!
Thank you for this comment! I found it helpful to pause and reflect. Have a lovely day! :)

Compulsive talking (or talkaholism) is talking that goes beyond the bounds of what is considered to be socially acceptable. The main factors in determining if someone is a compulsive talker are talking in a continuous manner or stopping only when the other person starts talking, and others perceiving their talking as a problem. Talking too much does nothing.
Endless talking and overloading with talking going beyond the bounds of what is considered to be socially acceptable will not solve the many subjects of the Christian faith.
If secular people or religious people discuss anything with people who have compulsive talking (or talkaholism), they are going nowhere.
People really underestimate the Christian faith believing that compulsive talking will solve the many subjects of the Christian faith. Actions like walking, thinking, or talking can not solve the many subjects of the scripture. Mixing the ouija board with a talking show. If people record 4 hours of just talking in a talking show, it would have no effect at all with ouija boards. The amount of talking has no effect at all on what is behind the ouija board, poltergeists, and sleeping paralysis. The drawback of talking too much is that people get overloaded. Compulsive talking (or talkaholism) just overloads people with information. People really underestimate God, talking is not enough for many subjects of the Christian faith. Western people overloading each other with information is just a waste of time.

this guy for sure is a good communicator, but I feel the doesn´t fully connect to the audience. But the things he says, most of them, are important.

The content is pretty reasonable. The intention is absolutely sound. However, be aware that this is pitched at such a basic level, and states the obvious so much it is quite painful. 4 minutes in he repeats the point he made 2 minutes earlier. Ironically he talks longer than is necessary about the points he is trying to make; makes a really good point, very clearly - then explains the point he has made for about 2 minutes. What's with the massive pauses after making a point - as if it is somehow a ground-breaking realisation. Better to trust in the intelligence of your audience than to think you have to labour a point to ensure they get it. A shame as there's some good tips in there.

It is most likely for a more basic level than you are.
