Mayu Silk Art 1

Water marbling demonstration by Star McCain at the Mayu Silk Art Studio in Huntington Beach, California. Each time a guest visits our studio, and at every event that we do, we offer a similar demonstration of the use of the paints and tools. Of course, we can’t ever really copy any design or pattern, but we can anticipate certain effects if we have a basic understanding of the process. After the demo, each participant will work one-to-one with a skilled artisan who will guide and advise as needed, while allowing freedom for personal freedom and exploration. Whether we meet in person or via remote live conferencing, is a very personal, yet shared, experience. Unforgettably fun.

Very nice wich kind of painting do you use and can we do this technique on any kind of fabric or only silk?

Thank you for the compliment. We use high quality acrylic paint that we prepare specially for marbling. This technique can be done successfully on many types of silk, as well as cotton, polyester, bamboo, leather, ceramic, terra cotta/clay, wood, paper, and much more. However, not all types of silks are suitable for this art process, and the same for the other materials as well. Some work, some don’t. Although we make it look simple, this art form is surprisingly complex, and it can be difficult or impossible to achieve consistently great results without first gaining some knowledge of the science and technique behind the art.
