Usually in this kind of story the old master would say that the art is dying and that no one wants to learn it anymore so I'm happy that the son wants to learn it.
Actually they're the last family in the whole of Japan to be doing that. Hermes made a short feature of this man's family and how the they're working with Hermes to bring back the art of silk marbling.
The printing process is unique and fascinating producing extremely beautiful designs on silk. I'm happy to hear that his son is learning his fathers method of printing. So this art will continue for another generation. I hope the son will teach many others! This traditional method of printing on silk. So the intricate process won't be lost or forgotten.
am here in Japan for the first time ever and am stunned by the amount of artisanal goods. Then I see this and realize I haven't even begun to scratch the surface! What an amazing country.
Imagine his sadness when his first born son didn't wanna continue the tradition, and then a no from the second suddenly BAM son number 3 makes him proud
The Japanese are in the top 3 countries for creation of artisanal goods, the arts, and technology!《the other 2 countries being Germany, and America》 Those 3 countries are in a league of their own, and the next closest countries are lagging far, far behind! Innovation, and creation are some.of the worlds most important skillsets, look at a country like China《a SUPERPOWER in their own right, however...》 they lack the necessary ability to do much more then mimic, steal, and replicate work mastered by those other 3 countries sadly they as a people have no creative drive, innovative ability, or inventive spirit!
Ren Woxing um right, clearly you don’t know any chinese artisanal traditions. China is one of the richest and oldest countries in the world to exist, Germany and America wouldn’t even compare. Century old traditions and artful productions such as the silk gown called have taken centuries if not millennials to perfect, which may I say, the Japanese Kimono actually copies from. If anything, most of Japanese culture borrowed from China. There is the Chinese opera, which roots back older than any western opera and is completely unique to the culture. Poetries of the highest beauty in complexity and expression dating millennials back are still being studied today, calligraphic painting of Shan shui worthing millions which the Japanese and Koreans also copied... What you see from the surfaces of media reports is although true, but only propaganda and promotion of a one sided and prejudiced depiction of how westerners think China is and should be like. Degrading the country as a whole while being completely ignorant just shows the westernised arrogance and ignorance. You can praise your own country or another without stepping down on another, reducing it in your words as such a valueless copycat when the truth is far from.
Ren Woxing also no creative drive, innovative ability, or inventive spirit? And you say they LACK the ability to do so? Perhaps go read a piece about Chinese architectures, philosophies and martial arts still being practiced and perfected today, or better yet check out Cui Ruzhuo’s modern arts selling hundreds of millions to come back more educated. Also when was the last thing YOU did something that creatively changed the course of your country’s economy, boosting it to tremendous extremes and success such as that happening in China? It would benefit to humble yourself when you clearly are indeed ignorant about something.
In a world with less and less jobs where stubborn humans continue to have children, you have to keep the secret of your trade otherwise your offspring will starve. Have you seen the videos of how people live in cubicles in Hong Kong? Or the one about italians commuting 5 hours per day to go to work? Or the one about college professors in the US who live in their cars because they cannot pay rent?
@@shuraba1234 A disgusting couple if there is any. If an art collector pays 91 million dollars for a silver bunny by J. Koons it's because he is having a conversation with other millionaires like himself. But when an employee of any trade is willing to pay 300 dollars minimum for a Hermes scarf I find it sickening, because that person is a slave who considers himself smart.
If this had been longer than 3 minutes maybe you would have had time to show how this all worked. I have no idea, and the edits were so fast. It was fascinating and I wish I could have seen more.
in japan they eat rice, miso, natto and grilled fish for breakfast, at least traditionally. recently toast has become popular instead of rice. but definitely not cereal. in fact, a very large percentage of east asians are lactose intolerant, b/c they didn't have much exposure to milk throughout their history. actually, they only started eating meat (other than fish) during ww2, because they believed the meat was what made the western soldiers taller and stronger. they didn't like the taste at all, so they used very japanese cooking techniques to mask the taste and make it palatable, and eventually grew to like it. after the war was over, they brought their meat diet back with them, and introduced it to the general population. but dairy and (land based) meat are very new to their diets, and so a very large portion of them can't tolerate dairy. so definitely no cereal eating :)
Ilsunny Lo you don’t. That was the original problem with Orbis printing that made it unusable for the 100,000 unit orders of the fashion industry. But with direct digital marketplaces, that becomes less of a problem, and some of the cutting could be done by CNC so you could produce multiple print “cans” with subtle differences in marbling, but with almost the same overall composition.
I found this interesting, I wondered if there is a way I could learn how to do this? I’m fascinated by the potential simplicity of this... do you think 11-13 could try this technique?
This is why you write and record your knowledge. Depending on oral tradition is a recipe for disaster, just imagine if the third son didn't want to follow his dad?
I felt like you guys asked no questions on this one... I would have loved to hear more about the process. How do they make it? Ect. But no, you didn't ask any real questions.

Why don't you like Hermes?
Steph B. because you like it
Maybe many people do not like Hermès for one reason, it's expensive :'( I wish I could buy some Hermès' products but I'm poor haha
I feel like I know less about this subject than I did before viewing.
Hermes must be a happy camper with these busy bees
Loving these videos of Japanese masters making pretty much anthing you can imagine but in the highest quality
