Also the majority of people in modern day have a Vit D deficiency, and as someone who had one for years, it certainly didn't cure my depression or suicidal ideations. Research has shown it can help REDUCE depression in people with mild cases, curing however is not a thing that vitamins or sun can do. It's ridiculous and reeks of toxic positivity, but sadly people keep acting like its so easy. (this is not towards you btw)

Admitting that your entire world doesn't revolve around modeling always seems to be the kiss of death for these girls. Without fail, when one of them says that they're interested in other things, within an episode or two, they're eliminated.
I still feel Elyse didn't win season 1 because they didn't like that she was also in medical school. When they found out they had a collective fit.
Tyra had commented, about one of the girl once, that "she needed more grooming." 😳If that doesn't say it all, idk what does! They want these girls to be willing to sacrifice, to do anything &everything they're told, without question. Those that do, qualify to be used &abused, like the good little modeling slaves the industry wants; probably pimped out to a prince or two somewhere over in the Middle East before their career is up. Those that have a standards, morals, or even just a solid backbone... "Well, I'm sorry, but we just don't need that kind of attitude around here. Your self-worth is getting in the way of our profits."
She was never in medical school.
She should've responded with "I want to be a supermodel turned business woman like you Tyra." and she probably would've won the whole show lol

I remember some years back on Tyra’s talk show, she was made VERY upset because the press took unflattering pictures of her on the beach, in a bikini after she had gained some weight. She made this HUGE spectacle about how awful shaming women for their appearance is… And that is totally true, but perhaps she could have taken her own advise to let the “criticism” make her “better”

I don’t like Tyra but there was a challenge for them to do their own make up for panel. They just could barely see any on Kelle that’s why she said that. She wasn’t telling her she has to wear make up.

@Bella Secrets legit! I admittedly have TERRIBLE skin- scarring, acne, rosacea, just everything and I swear down, if I drink 2-3 litres of water- my skin is so much better the next day

Seriously. I felt so bad for her in the episode where she was looking at herself in the mirror to practice and couldn’t stop crying because she felt so ugly. Janice especially was brutal. They keep talking about taking the critism and applying but how do you take someone saying your before and after look like an Alfred Hitchcock film and laugh?
They really did her dirty though!!! I think she had much better photos and they would always purposefully pick worse ones to break her confidence... Tyra is such a loathsome human being for those types of stunts. Even notice @5:39 how great a lot of her photos are... That one the show froze on was 10 times better than the one they chose as her "best"...

This is INSANE. The judges literally cannot handle someone questioning them. Tyra and her posse created this show so they could have their egos boosted. They needed someone to want their validation as much as they’ve strived for it in their careers. Tyra’s opinions are completely unwarranted. This is a game for them. This is Tyra’s game. It’s not about the models, it’s not about their careers or helping them. This is “the most dangerous game:” let me invite you to my private island and you feel special and in exchange you let me hunt you for fun.

I feel like with a lot of the dark skin models on the show there’s always a trope of being strong or angry and I don’t quite like that.
I remember this episode.... and I remember screaming internally at how GORGEOUS all their unretouched photos were. Like wow. I did not see what the judges saw. Thank god

Remember when Tyra was caught unawares at the beach and a paparazzi got her at a bad angle, and there was at LEAST an entire episode on her talk show to explain away how that photo wasn’t accurate and she literally came out on stage in the “same” swimsuit. Insanity.

I think the difference is that Tyra was at the beach being a normal person not a model....these girls are on a show about being a MODEL! Do you think the fashion world is nice or kind? Tyra was giving the the same energy they would get for the rest of there time in the buisness. It's not for the weak as it's been said by multiple models over the years it's not something for people with thin skins
They beat down Kelly’s confidence throughout her time there, then sent her home because she lacked confidence. These people were the worst.
The episode right after this she was “practicing faces” infront of a mirror and she immediately broke down crying she was so broken . 😢

@@BratzRockAngels Kelle did an interview with the UA-camr Oliver Twixt some time ago and she seems really well-adjusted and successful now. She looks exactly the same too.

Even first watching this season when I was younger I thought Kelly was so beautiful. She also seemed like such a sweet person. I’m glad she’s ok after everything they did to her.
I really appreciated you sharing your own experience with cystic acne. As someone who also struggled for years hopefully more people can understand and normalize having acne because I had it due to changes in hormones and no matter what I did it didn’t go away and people didn’t understand that it was just my face and it wasn’t gonna change 🙌
Yes that was so open and honest. I had a very difficult time as well in high school. I know it was stress because my parents had just split up and my skin broke out in a way I had never dealt with before. People would make comments especially family. I also appreciate that she showed us something real because we all go through these trying times and it affects how we feel but there is beauty in the struggle.

I had cystic acne that came out in my late twenties because of drastic hormone changes caused by horrible traumas
It got better instantly as soon as my life conditions improved
Bad things are NEVER you, it is an effect from the outside caused by either bad environment or by the effect of a bad person
Listening to your commentary has healed old wounds I didn’t even know existed. For real… I grew up watch ANTM and always wanted to grow up to be a model. It’s so refreshing hearing you stick up for these models and calling Tyra and other cast out on some of their absolutely ridiculous treatments to these young girls! 🤗
The judges are just unnecessarily vicious. They are literally the embodiment of the worst side of the modelling industry. I get its cut throat, but just because Tyra had a tough time, doesn’t mean every model needs to hit rock bottom to prove themselves. It seems more like a ‘let’s push them to their limits until they break and realise they’re not cut out for modelling’ rather than lets nurture and give these aspiring models the tools they need to excel in the industry.

All of these photos were incredible. The unretouched, every single one, looks absolutely gorgeous (and far more fabulous than the judges). Kudos to all of them for surviving this show.
I’m constantly dehydrated and never ever ever get pimples, never washed my face besides in the shower. Like people give the worse advice, my heart breaks for people who have issues with acne or texture. Hugs to you guys, as a person with chronic illness and disability I feel you guys with people telling dumb advice
Same. I sometimes drinks lots of water other times I forget. I eat lots of sweets and often do the crime of not taking off my make up before bed. People compliment my skin.
Water helps already healthy skin, but it's not a cure.

Dude, I’m someone who also has a chronic illness but has never dealt with acne in any realm! I’ve also struggled with an eating disorder so I have not always eaten the best or drank water and never really had more then a couple of pimples at one time. But I get so much unsolicited, frustrating advice for how to deal with my autoimmune disorder and just in general, we should all just stop assuming for others. Hope you’re doing ok with your illness.

It's almost comically when 20-year-olds are like, "Gen Z would never allow this." The show was on until 2018. It's crazy what was allowed.

@@crazycatlady7866 it wasn't ok, but it was definitely more accepted. I was in high school in the '00s and it was a truly garbage time. There was a lot of focus on being flawless and cool, and giving tough love to those who weren't. Mean Girls was popular because it resonated deeply with a lot of us and our experiences. ANTM was pretty widely loved and respected by a lot of people when it came out and even I, who was bullied relentlessly, didn't sit there and think "well, this is toxic". It was just par for the course, and what you needed to do to be cool.
I look back on this show now through Jessica's videos, and Brad Mondo's videos, and it makes my blood boil. I want to jump in front of those girls and defend them with my life.

I cannot believe we watched this as young women and thought this was legitimate in any way. This show is disgusting. It needs to be wiped from history. Every person on that judge panel should be ashamed of themselves for their bullying behavior. You can even see the models absorbing this energy as they “help”(gossip about) the model who is struggling with an eating disorder. What an nightmare.
I was thinking the same, now years later when I'm a case manager at behavioral health and trying to help young women that have major self esteem issues I look back at this and its like "god to think I ever wanted to be on that show". Cause yes at one time I hoped I could lose enough weight and maybe do something like that, never happened and honestly glad for it! I can't believe I watched as many seasons of it as I did, I refuse to watch any of the current stuff and haven't watched it for about 10 years, best decision really.
Some of the stuff was absolutely ridiculous on the show but at the same time, this isn’t an easy field to try to get in especially at this time, so in that sense, they were being realistic to how brutal people in this industry can be.
I had the same thought. How are you supposed to take a critique of your natural beauty and use it to make yourself more naturally beautiful!? This isn't The Swan. I think this is a real life Mean Girls show. They just tear these ladies down and make the entire world feel like fake is best and aging is beneath them. I bet all of these ladies need a lot of therapy after the show. I can't believe I used to watch Tyra. She is a HORRIBLE influence on females of all ages.
In that case let's get rid of the whole industry. It was and it is a reflection of the industrie.
No, we should not wipe it from history, because then people wouldn't have anything to learn from, such as how accepting we (general "we") were of toxic behaviors...just ten years ago, and how far we still have to go, along with how to identify and call out such behaviors (and logical fallacies). Wiping off unpleasantries of the past is just editing and sanitizing history, which would be irresponsible, dishonest, and EXACTLY the same as teaching farce history. Just because we dislike an event in history, it doesn't mean that we should be weak and take the easy way out: erasing it.

I’ve had cystic and hormonal acne since I was a teenager. I’ve tried so many medications, topicals, creams- spent so much time in dermatologist offices trying to get it under control and this show (because I watched it growing up and was so into it) really messed with my head. I was so embarrassed of my skin for so long but yeah, people have blemishes and it’s not a big deal.

These girls already felt insecure going into this photoshoot - and then to have the judges (Especially Janice) almost recoil in disgust to the majority of them when their untouched photos were revealed? Absolutely disgusting behaviour. This challenge would only further implement unachieveable beauty standards

It was like they targeted her until they eliminated her. Her and Tocara, because if I remember they always made Tocara be the large animal in the photo shoots and they made her be gluttony in another one but she was also gorgeous.

Honestly looking back I cannot believe I watched this show, and that my mom let me at the young impressionable age that I was. This is heartbreaking. They are literally bullies like one starts with a negative comment and they allllllll join in. Disgusting human beings.
Why is it the ultimate betrayal to Tyra for the girls to want to do something else other than dedicate their life to modelling? It would be so inspiring to hear their hopes and aspirations and should be celebrated on the show
And then fast forward to the last 3 seasons she contradicts herself and says that your brand should go beyond the modelling industry...
Considering Tyra was also a show host and had her own MLM 😂 hypocrisy at its finest. I bet she wouldn’t say that to Cara Delevingne or Hollywood starts’ kids 🤦🏼♀️
If I remember correctly, there were at least 2 other seasons where Tyra would do an episode dedicated to the careers the girls wanted after modeling. She would lecture them about how it was important to have a future plan because modeling was a short-term career in your 20s, and also make it an excuse to attention-whore her talk show or “music” career or whatever else she was playing at.

Tyra explains several times that there are other girls who dreamed to be in place of girls who weren’t there 100 percent. She was validated in what you call a “betrayal”.
Tyra is such a good example of a narcissist and you can tell that she's actually very insecure about herself and masking it by putting everyone else down so she can be on top. She's so dramatic it actually helped me recognise toxic behaviours when they're not on paper only. Her gaslighting is just *chef's kiss*. I still can't believe how could she get away with such blatant bullying for so long...
And thank you Jessica for opening up about your acne problem. I've always admired your skin and it surprised me that you struggle with the same condition I do. Because back in the early 2000, starting with Simone Cowell, the bullying and blatant mean-ness was so in. Everyone on TV wanted to be some version of that and people ate it up..I was always aware of that. Even if you watch the Den of dragons, forgot his name but the call him “Mr. Wonderful” he is so mean, and once called this brown girl a “cockroach”.
Yeah, season 4 before Tyra has her meltdown on Tiffany, she's hugging her and supporting her, pretending to care. I know a narcissist and it's the same. They "help" others so it gives them an ego boost, but will flip out and abuse that person the next minute

I agree! Tyra is not what she used to appear as. Also cystic acne is physically painful and scars easily. So it can be hard to cover. It’s horrible when you get them.
I wish someone like you would’ve made videos like this when I was a teenager. This show was THE standard of beauty for my 14 year old, impressionable self. When the judges would rip into these gorgeous models, I felt so ugly, fat, and disgusting because if those women were ugly, fat, and disgusting, then there was no way I should have any confidence at all.

Jessica I love you, as someone struggling with a skin condition that is permanent due to a genetic disorder, I can relate to the constant comments made about our faces, I hope you know that you're beautiful and your skin isn't the only thing that makes you beautiful. Please don't let anyone else ever make you question yourself, or prevent you from going out and enjoying yourself, you deserve the world! You look much happier now and that makes me happy to see =)
As someone who struggles with acne and wants to model it sucks to know people think of it as gross or unclean or ugly. It's a struggle

One of the worst things about this episode to me is that we actually get to see how much they lighten up the darker models' skin. Yaya is one of my all time favorites, she's such a gorgeous woman and her retouched photo is like 3 tones lighter than she is in real life and it's such a shame

Agreed. They all hated Kelle's untouched photo because it was a couple of shades darker than the retouched one.
I thought I saw her skin looks darker at the judging than in the photo.
To me it just looked like they made it brighter, not lighter. There was more shine to it in the places where the light was shining and the skin was smoother.
They also made a comment on how she needed to drink more water. Drinking a lot of water improves the skin and makes it look brighter.

hey Jessica I know this is a video from a few weeks ago, and I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it already, but you are so incredibly brave in opening up about your experience with cystic acne. while I never experience it first hand, I was talking to my fiancee about it yesterday and how many people talk about how incredibly painful and uncomfortable it can be. I never would have known because your skin has always looked flawless from what I've seen in your videos! you're an incredibly sweet, gentle soul, and I'm so glad that you continue to make videos like this. ❤

I can’t believe I used to look up to Tyra as a kid, I was an avid watcher of ANTM from elementary to high school and I was a HUGE fan of Tyra. Now as a 28 year old and seeing how problematic this show was and Tyra was it’s shocking. Like Tyra was just a straight up gaslighter and bully throughout this series
I remember watching an episode of ANTM with my mom when I was in elementary school and she changed the channel halfway through the episode because she didn't like the way Tyra was gaslighting the girls in the form of "constructive criticism." I'm glad Tyra Banks has all but faded into obscurity and is irrelevant now.
@@brett8460 I was so tired of her behaviour on the show, many many years ago, that I actually googled 'Tyra Banks ridiculous' just like that. I was very surprised and very happy at the same time, seeing the search results, because that way I realized most people disgread with the way she treated people ( and the world is made mostly of nice people :) ).
I liked the show when I was a kid until she made fun of a girl for having a gap between her teeth. It lowered my confidence and the next time I went to the dentist, I asked them for braces. The dentist said my gap is natural and that my teeth are very straight. Braces aren't necessary. It took me years to finally accept my gap.

I literally don’t understand their criticism on Yaya’s skin. She has no hyperpigmentation, just mild texture- she’s freaking GLOWING. I’ve never seen such an out of touch and insufferable group of ppl in one room.

This judge is making fun and provocating that girl for no reason. I mean Hitchcock movie, really? Then the girl responds very kindly and gets bullied for doing so. I would say them to piss off. I wouldn’t let myself to be bullied like that, even if that would be my biggest dream.
I wanted to thank you for being so open and honest about your own skin issues and how you dealt with it. I was born with Ectodermal Dysplasia which affects the pigment of my skin as well as my hair, teeth, and severe lack of sweat glands. I was teased relentlessly growing up, but it also helped me become stronger - but that doesn't mean that the bullying was acceptable or warranted. I've been watching a lot of your videos on ANTM lately, but this one literally got me teary eyed when you shared some of your personal pain you've dealt with - it shows that you are beautiful inside AND out! I wish they did a photoshoot where they centred around their ‘flaws.’ Like acne or dark circles. I think they would feel more comfortable in their own body too!

I know that it's pretty painful I kinda honestly feel it too, but this "reality show" judges just focuses on slight imperfections and make a big deal out of it. Just take it as a grain of salt.

Tyra's self-hatred of her own Blackness in this era was heavily projected on to Black contestants on the show. When she says to Yaya "I didn't know you could look so soft", it implicates the stereotype of Black women being rough around the edges, and too rugged to fit into the Eurocentric beauty standard. Also, when she tells Kelle that as a darker skinned woman she needs to wear more make-up because "our skin does not reflect light," was such BS. Kelle's shots in the photoshoot were stunning and the soft lighting played very well onher skin tone.Tyra was honestly one of the worst role models for Black women and girls in the mid-2000s, despite her obvious commercial success.
Yaya always looked soft and feminine too which makes her bias much more obvious.
This is why I prefer Naomi Campbell because unlike tyra. She actually made black women feel confident and beautiful. Trya did the opposite. Her comments are actually disgusting.
I agree. Tyra’s comment about dark-skinned people having to wear more makeup is an example of colorism. It’s such a shame and sad. The judges on this show are absolutely horrid!

Let me correct Tyra: you don’t have to wear MORE makeup as a woman of color, you have to wear higher pigmented colors. But there’s no need to cake foundation and concealer and blush on a naturally pretty even toned face.
Tyra should do some photos with no make up, she doesn't even look like the same person. I always feel like she's just jealous of younger models.

I don't remember the season, but Celia was 24 and being called the young Paulina. She had been winning challenges several weeks in a row, and in the middle of a shooting, Paulina interrupted to bring Celia to the side and tell her that she was too old to start modeling. When Celia went back to finish her shoot, she had trouble and did poorly!
This. You should see the amount of makeup white people (men and women) need to wear any time they go on TV or perform on stage. Without it we look like ghosts.

I suffer from (with?) Bulimia myself and am at a point where I accept it and am able to talk to people about it. I really struggle with finding a way to help my diet as I just feel sooo so tired about it all the time (it's the being tired of it that brings me to tears. Nothing else actually.), and so many people who mean well have no idea how condescending it sounds when they offer advice. "Yeah I've tried that, didn't work" runs through my mind as I kinda shuts it out and steer the conversation along.
I can recognize myself in your birthday story. You look beautiful(!!), but I understand that kind of insecurities. I only just discovered your channel but really enjoyed the two videos I've seen till now!
Thank you so much for these videos. I watched ANTP when I was in my late teens and early twenties; these judges represented the best leaders and mentors of the industry and we were meant to trust in their opinion and feedback as experts. I now realize how damaging this is - particularly at a time when I was finding and expressing myself in the world. Thank you for sharing. This is helping me to unlearn so much.
When Nigel said the “cure” was “water water water”, I had to pause and walk away for a minute. Having struggled with acne for 34 STRAIGHT years this was so triggering, heartless, and completely ignorant. Ranks right up there with the person who told me that I had such bad acne because I ate pizza. …, right

I hear ya sister! I have severe acne at 42, on my face chest, back and arms, and the only thing that has helped me is birth control pills; but not everyone can or wants to take it. Even then, my skin still breaks out a little, not as bad though thankfully. I have been on a lot of treatments from the dermatologist but I also have allergies and other issues so it’s complicated. I actually am mostly raw and plant-based, exercise, meditate, get outside everyday, take supplements, use natural products, drink lots of water and still struggle with bad skin, irritable bowel and bipolar anxiety and depression. My husband eats pizza and french fries, never drinks water, no depression, and never breaks out. Water can help some people with bad diets, but its more than that. There can be hormonal issues, or like me acne can be hereditary. Anyway, everybody has a struggle, I get my clear skin from a bottle of foundation and keep it moving.
Or worse…when someone says to just wash your face…like oops I’ve been forgetting that🤯🤬

@@heyalexiajanee it's your hormones. Talk to your doctor to see if you have PCOS. It can cause your hormones to go crazy and birth control usually helps. I have it. But honestly. Just keep your skin dry. And understand it might never go away until you have menopause.
Crazy how Tyra is reinforcing the unrealistic beauty standards. This would’ve made my insecurity so much worsee.
Sadly she valued profit and ratings more than making a change in the modeling industry, which she could've done.
At this time she was the most popular model, TV was huge back then, and Tyra could've changed those standards, having done that she'd have been considered a pioneer in promoting positive changes in fashion unrealistic standards
But she didn't, and now she faces backlash literally everywhere, she's not respected in the fashion industry and people don't want to see her in TV any more.
That's her karma, she preferred profit (short term) over doing something significant (longterm) that would have improved the careers of many upcoming models.
I think it's funny how the two girls she sent home were so naturally pretty and Tyra looked threatened.
Insecure people shouldn't be in an industry at judges you on your beauty, and they definitely shouldn't be on a reality TV show judges you on your beauty. If you're insecure somethings just aren't for you.

Naomi had her own modeling show, first in the UK (with the stunning Erin O'Connor), then two seasons in the US. They actually supported the models!
Naomi didn’t care for Tyra because the industry made it seem like Tyra was the new young Naomi. Tyra isn’t perfect but neither is Naomi she threw a phone at her assistant. Both are narcissistic

Damn they literally kicked her out just because being a model wasnt he first on her list, honestly being independent and having your own business is far more empowering than just being a model. Very strong, have to agree good exit.
Good on her for not settling for what will most likely just be some limiting modelling career. I hope she is successful in manufacturing and hopefully supporting better modelling practices, now that she's gotten a glimpse into how toxic the industry can be.
And what’s crazy is the following year after this they encouraged the girls to find something outside of modeling…

Thank you for sharing about your acne struggles. I had really good skin up until my mid 20s after I had my first son and I think just becoming a woman in my late 20s the hormones change so much. I’ve been so insecure as well.
Every single comment you made related to me SO much. I grew up with bad skin. Its cleared and gotten better but only in the last few years and I am 30. I still have hormonal acne. And I over think everything. More so then, but still do. Walking into the resturant..where I'd sit, if the lighting was bad, if I'm sweating to much and my make up has come off. EVERY single thing. This might be the worst episode ever. The judges are just awful and rotten people. Watching them belittle and ridicule these beautiful women for their natural (and AMAZING!!) skin makes me sick to my stomach. They should be ashamed of themselves.
I think this season was one of the worst seasons. There was also an episode where a model complained of sexual harassment but nothing was done…. and she was forced to hang out with those modes after the shoot.

I'm so glad you brought up the struggles of acne, I also had bad acne as a teenager, and I totally obsessed with how my skin looked, it was all I thought about. People always told me to wash my face or drink water, like you're absolutely right, it is extremely hard to live with and those "tips" don't magically make it go away. Thanks Jessica!
The way they treat these models is just sick. Acting like their natural skin is shocking and disgusting? Literally recoiling and pretending they 'can't look'? Every person on this panel should be ashamed of themselves for trying to make young women think that the way they exist naturally is disturbing. Just wrong.
Also, as a person who had cystic acne for around a year and have next to no photos of myself from that time because of it, I just want to commend you for how brave you were to share your story and videos. It can be so demoralizing, but there is nothing wrong with having it!
Seriously!! This could've been a good message, where they judge all the photos and they're all great and no one gets eliminated because natural beauty is different but still beautiful. THAT would've been the way to go about this.

To be an intelligent, and have a future over 30 if your lucky. You tell the models to be confident in the photo shoot, but god forbid feeling good about yourself. That is exactly why you had a young girl with bulimia.
I remember watching this when I was younger, and being so horrified at the judge’s reactions to the unretouched photos. I think they also did this again in another season and those reactions really stuck with me.
I had the same issue as you. Zero self esteem as a result. One girl said to me, "Do you wear make up?" I said, "No." "Mm. You should." Then another made me stand in front of the little pack of girls to rank how pretty we were. She said "Oh Amy would be pretty if she didn't have acne." 🙄 Nothing helped but time. 😔

It is sad that we live in a society where we women are terrified to leave the house without makeup. We are conditioned to believe everyone will harshly look down on us, not want us and we cannot be confident. That everyone believes our natural skin is somehow intrinsically wrong. Shows like this only reinforce this toxic social conditioning. Not everyone is judging, a fact which took a long time for me to accept. Make up should be about self expression and fun

I assume you're referring to people who don't have chronic severe acne. When you have cystic acne and go out without makeup you have to deal with constant reactions of shock, discust and people asking you what's wrong with your face. It's humiliating, and thus people like us really have no choice but to wear makeup to cover it up unless we want to be treated like a circus sideshow.
I stopped caring about whether I had makeup on or not. I had and still have HORRIBLE acne and flares bad depending on "time of the month" lol. I just accept it's me and that's okay

It took me until I was 25 to realize how toxic this show & “judges” were. Shame on Tyra & the rest of these grown adults for how they were to these impressionable girls. I cannot imagine the trauma & unlearning these girls had to go through once they got home. I hope that they were unable to learn that physical beauty is the most important thing & to look for validation from others. I am still trying to unlearn these things & I was just a viewer of the show. Truly a toxic show & atmosphere to be around. Really wish all these people would take responsibility on their bullying & negativity. I really appreciate your videos & how you are helping girls to realize this isn’t how they should be treated or judged. You are a true role model.

Agree with you so much. The show is toxic, the judges are awful to the girls and Tyra is a toxic, fake person. I didn’t see it when I was younger watching it, but watched some when I got older and I could see right through her. After hearing stories from some of the women on that show confirming how awful the experience was for them, I can’t stand Tyra.
Not sure if she's just acting for the show or these were the standards she grew up with while she was still modelling. Pretty sure she had her fair share of critical judgements in her heydays of modelling. Depends on how you look at it, it could be that she's just prepping these younger women for the harsh realities of the modelling world or she's really just this type of person. I'm hoping it's the former. But its true that in an industry where looks is everything, if you have imperfections in your appearance, either you are going to try improving on your imperfections or you can switch to a career where your success doesnt have to depend on your looks. But if she's really just a shallow person overall she would have been replaced as a judge few seasons ago. This is just my 2 cents.
I watched some, thought it was fun at first, but after a lot of time seeing clips and interviews, this show really is toxic AF I mean they made a girl strip naked even though she was uncomfortable, another had to do a photoshoot about drug overdose AFTER learning her closest friend had died of a drug overdose through phone call, then giving them makeovers that most of the time are terrible.
Also 25 and same. As a kid, I was unable to see the narcissism. I binged this and her talk show and I feel like I could’ve done something better with my young mind.
It’s no question why some girls come out the show disliking Tyra.
I also had tons of skin conditions from a young age. Some left scarring, some conditions were scalp conditions and caused thinning hair temporarily, and most of the childhood dermatitis was on my face and neck, so a lot of kids and other teens would comment and ask questions. I get it. Thank you for sharing!! It’s good not to feel alone.

Didn't they break down Kelle to the point where she would look in the mirror and start crying, because she hated how she looked? Confidence is something that is never allowed on ANTM. Whenever someone shows a bit of confidence, Tyra and the crew try their best to break them and it looked bad back then and worse now. Tyra is a grown woman and she's bullying kids who want to make it into the business.

As someone who struggles with disordered eating this is a huge nightmare, I dont blame Amanda for telling, but she shouldve told a producer only not the other models and the producers shouldve gotten Cassie therapy and helped her through this. Turning it into the topic dujour and a gossip-y thing is so messed up
Absolutely! The damage this whole incident would have done, it just cemented her ed and made her defensive.
I have a feeling Amanda probably did and the producer thought "ooh story line, go tell the others". Nothing would surprise me with this show, especially as no one appeared to step in to help her at the time and instead watched it all unfold. Nobody thought to intervene or edit it out, just let it go live.

Yeah, it was a mess. I definitely agree with not totally blaming amanda, from what I saw I really think she and most of the other models were genuinely worried. They definitely turned it into gossip, which isn't right, but I can't get mad at them when it seems they had good intentions. I'm just disappointed in the people filming the conversation, not editing out, turning it into drama, etc.

People wouldn’t be scared to take off their makeup if people like those judges didn’t exist. Society complains when people use makeup because they’re “fake” and aren’t showing their real skin while when someone has skin imperfections they encourage them to hide them and be ashamed of them

Yeah! Why didn't they give them a professional facial before the photo shoot? My friend did a couple of regional shoots and that was part of her pay.
Janice Dickinson was truly gorgeous, stunning as a young lady and I think now she's envious of women who are still young. I wonder what she would have looked like if she took good care of herself and aged naturally. We'll never know.

Hey love I just wanna say I appreciate u talking about cystic acne!! I feel very seen! N although I don’t have it now I sometimes get it & went through periods of getting cystic acne it’s super hard to treat & had a big affect on my self esteem & how I viewed myself overall.

It's so no okay to make just seeing pores and a bit of the undereye skin being a different shade as such a big problem.
I hate how they blamed the girls about their skin, since not everyone born with good skin. Some are difficult that is hard to work with. and no amount of good diet, water, sleep and cleaning habits can transform it compile

Thank you so much for talking about what it's like to struggle with acne. I still get acne and have pretty bad scarring from when I had severe cystic acne in high school. Your video made me feel understood and like I wasn't so alone. Thank you
I have no respect for any of these hateful judges. The only joy I get from watching these is your reaction and calling them out on their stuff.
Didn't they literally make a girl tak off her make-up at a panel... And now they are complaining that they don't have enough make-up on... In the episode based around being bare-face? They are so incredibly petty and plain out bullies.
My daughter suffered with cystic acne and I felt so bad for her as we tried to find a solution. A dermatologist actually told her to not wear makeup, it was clogging her pores, he said. I told him "She doesn't wear makeup on her back or her scalp, how do you explain that?" He told her to stop drinking skim milk. He was such a jerk and it was such a waste of time. Our family doctor finally convinced to try mild form of Accutane. It was amazing how well it worked. There was a huge improvement. After the first course, she needed to go back on again, but only for a short while. Years later, her skin looks great and she takes very good care with her skin regiment and I'm so happy for her. It sucks how people make all these judgements, drink more water....Puheease!
my dermatologist said similarly silly things, he suggested that i stop eating peanut butter and drinking dairy. i didn’t ever stop doing either of those things of course, and 14 years later at 30 my skin is under control. turns out i just had to wait for my hormones to change naturally with age lol. i also tried accutane, proactiv, microdermabrasion, laser treatments, EVERYTHING. nothing worked but time
Accutane is actually relatively dangerous. We would monitor our patients every 3 months via labs. It's shocking that a PCP would take on cystic acne with accutane. It's not really a one size fits all skin condition either. Everyone is different, everyone's body reacts differently to hormones, foods, etc etc - A dermatologist can't magically rid you of cystic acne after one visit. Wearing make up DOES clog pores and irritate skin. So, if you already have a preexisting skin condition (cystic acne), applying make up will only irritate or exacerbate that condition. They were correct to advise against it. As far as peanut butter and milk goes - sugars, fats, dairy products etc can also cause acne outbreaks. So perhaps that was the thought process behind that. Moral to my story is, doctors are not miracle workers - especially when you're non-compliant or combative with their advice. It might seem trivial or ridiculous but the advice they are giving you has purpose in a trial and error rule out system to determine causes and treatment for your conditions. Have some faith ❤

I basically googled what cystic acne was and tried St. Ives apricot face scrub every two days worked wonders for me.
@@vexu7366 thank you for this more neutral response. one size does not fit all in medicine, and dairy can be absolutely awful for some people, like everyone in my family who has various bad reactions from it. also i think it’s great these doctors recommended a more “natural” solution first. i think if you can take control over something through diet, that’s much preferable to a harsh drug like accutane.
@@vexu7366 yup i was on accutane for a while as well and it didn’t do anything for my skin. i had to get monthly blood tests to make sure there was no liver damage and before i could start it, i had to read a huge manual and sign a waiver form. not worth it lol

This photoshoot infuriates me. Every single one of these pictures was stunning and the producers' "criticism" made no sense. As someone who struggled with an eating disorder, the way this show treated the model with disordered eating was horrendous. It would've made me spiral. I don't like that everyone was told.
thats the thing. there was NO criticism, much less constructive. They were just going ughh and blegh to the unretouched photos. They weren't trying to build these girls up, only break them down to manipulate them

I think it's funny how Amanda tried to villianize Eva this whole season for being to herself and comfortable in her own skin. Made her seem like a bully but she literally took Cassie's secret and spread it around to all the girls to gossip. While Eva was the only one who thought she was wrong. Ok...

Cassie told Amanda she's bulimic and Amanda told about it to someone else and so forth until everyone knew. Amanda defended herself saying Cassie shouldn't have told her about it if she didn't want everyone else to know it as well. Also later in the season Amanda does accuse Eva of stealing her jewerly and doesn't apologise (at least not shown) after finding out she had put the jewerly away so no one would steal it!
It's the blonde hair any antm contestant who gets it starts to act really rude for some reason.

I love how they told the girl to wear more makeup when there doing a photo shot about wearing no makeup, and working on being beautiful without it. Wow such good advice thx.😮✨

Honestly they should have one opportunity where the judges need to do a challenge and the models get to comment on their pictures anonymously.
Is it stooping to their level? Sure.
Do they deserve it? They sure do.
