She’s talking about Naomi Campbell. It’s always about Naomi. Any occasion to trash on Naomi was welcomed. The diva photoshoot episode where someone throws a phone at their “assistant” was ALSO to trash Naomi. Tyra really hates Naomi bc someone told her that Naomi got her job back in the 90s and that it was bc of Naomi, when it really wasn’t. Yes. This is a feud that exists since the 90s. It’s truly pathetic. Just shows how petty Tyra is.
The feud is on-sided thou. Tyra needs to let it go! Like Naomi is that girl
Now I believe the Naomi getting her fired story. There were a few other Black models of the era who told similar stories about Naomi... Naomi was a bully during her time. Tyra was her victim but Tyra went on to victimize others.
It's funny Naomi claimed she would never even make a comment about another model being on her level then fast forward we see Naomi on her show The Face tell another model that very thing! 😂

Let me get this straight.
Alison only gives straight on pictures. They criticize her for it, but still pick a straight on picture to critique her on, and guess what, it's beautiful because it's her strongest angle. AND YET, Sandra gets criticized for only giving profile shots, so they purposefully chose one of her weaker, straight on shots instead of her profile shots, which they admitted were stronger and beautiful, and then send her home for having a bad photo?!
The reasoning was that clients tend to prefer head-on shots for marketing purposes (selling products).
No one said Allison only did straight on profile pictures either.... They were critiquing her maintaining the same facial expression in all of her photo shoots, which was a legitimate critique.
Tyra: Don’t mess with other models money 💰
Also Tyra: Doesn’t pay the girls any money, make them pay all food expenses and makes them do photo shoots that can’t be use to get booked 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️

I like how Tyra admits to Sandra that she doesn’t pick the photos based on which is the best one but picks based on what the judging panel will think of the photo.
But she even said that if she had another profile shot....all of her best photos were that of profile and wanted a straight on shot....I was the same way in season 9 with Heather....she was shooting mostly profile shots because it was her best and they did a shoot straight on and her pictures were beautiful. 🤷♀️

In relation to you saying the make up artist deserves an award - Sutan (the artist who is most commonly featured throughout the series) also is known as Raja the drag queen and has won a few awards for various things. I think you'd love Raja because she definitely has taken her experience in the modeling industry and brought it to drag
Raja was always responsible for the really memorable looks on this show 🖤♊️
@@hellopoodles I watched Raja on Drag Race before I ever watched through ANTM, so when I realized Sutan was Raja, I also noticed the best looks were on those episodes
Firstly (I could be mistaken) but I think Sutan/Raja uses they/them pronouns now when not doing full femme drag. (Now it's *very* avant-garde)
Secondly, I don't know how/why I was slow on connecting the dots because:
The episode of ANTM where the girls are surprised by a "special guest" to teach them how to move/connect with sensuality and the person who walks on stage is "Their makeup artist Sutan" in full burlesque transformation was one of my favorite moments and the reveal was *stunning.*

@@rolloverpudding Sadly, I do not. I'm pretty sure it's between the cycles with "The Girl Who Cheated" and S10 (because I just could not watch after that).
I bet if you did a search for something like Raja Burlesque Top Model you could find it, since that's technically what they called the exercise they did. (though as someone in burlesque culture, it's just... not. Still fun to watch though.)
I really think it would make more sense to evaluate five photos to look at their overall progress of each shoot. It's weird to base it off one photo and let it all ride on that. But it's really just so they can build whatever narrative they want.
That's really the whole point of the show. Just fake drama and a fake narrative, they can make or destroy a girls reputation by splicing audio clips together too or make the girls say things they don't even mean and then using that out of context... there's so much of that in these shows I can't ever watch them. I love Jess' take on the photos and models themselves tho, she humanizes them in a show that dehumanizes them completely. Terrible :(

That would make sense if the purpose of the show was to teach girls how to model. Unfortunately, the actual purpose of the show is entertainment and they exploit the girls to do create it.

Narcissistic Tyra is always the “victim” to everything and Naomi the “bully”- but in recent years, with old video footage and ANTM clips, we all know Tyra is the mean girl here trying to be the center of attention 😳
Have you seen the episode of her talk show when Naomi was a guest? OMG. 😳 She was very confrontational, acting like her mere existence gave her PTSD and even now triggered from being in front of her, and even said something to the effect of she’s STILL not taking accountability. Finally Naomi apologized for any harm that she may have caused but I felt like she was thinking “anything to make it stop.” I was married to a narcissist for 17 years and remember the scores and scores of apologies I made-while thinking exactly that “please just make it stop.” EXTREMELY uncomfortable to watch.
This episode calls the phrase “Here is your best photo” into question. The fair thing would’ve been to post her actual best photo, but then instruct her to pose head on for the next shoot or else (i.e Heather in Cycle 9-and she turned. it. out.) Instead, they’re playing games. 🙄

I really think that the way the colour was placed on the models faces made a big difference to their looks also. I’m so bad at remembering names, but the girl with the red, it was placed in a way I though was very strategic to contour her face and around her inner eyes in a very symmetrical way. Whereas the girl with the white kind of just had it smeared across her face randomly.
i agree i also just did not like the random piece of hair they put on her head it looks like literal straw, they did her dirty with her styling

Now I want you to react on the episode in cycle 4 when Tyra yelled at Tiffany after eliminated her with Rebecca because Tiffany didn't cry or break down on her elimination and instead just smiled and wished the remaining girls good luck. To me that is when Tyra's true color came to light.

It was a while back and one of the first heavily requested videos because the clip of Tyra screaming was going viral at the time. It's *at least* a year old, but if you scroll through her vids you'll find it - the thumbnail makes it *very* easy to spot. 😉

You're always foreshadowing. I love it! When you said, "Are they trying to send her home", I shouted "YES THEY ARE! YES THEY ARE!" And this was not fair at all to Sandra, because they're not consistent. So they didn't want to pick another profile for Sandra even though they were beautiful. But then for Sundai, and I love Sundai, don't get me wrong, but they kept choosing profile for her even though they complained also she was only giving profile. It's never consistent on this show. Also, they couldn't inform Sandra they wanted a straight on shot from her so she could work on it more?
They did the same thing to Nik (Cycle 5) by purposely choosing profile photos of her too yet complained at her for doing profile.
They did that to Heather in Cycle 9 but she was really smart and saw it coming so she gave them a photoshoot with NO side profiles at all, and they noticed

Celia said in an interview that Tyra told them at that judging to speak up about anything going on in the house. Celia took the bait and then Tyra condemned her for it.
Should Celia have done that? No but I don't think she had malicious intent and I do believe she was encouraged by production to say something about it (because you know, it makes drama and good TV).
And I think every one of them knows how big Tyra is on the women having a passion for modeling. I think Talia did have passion for it, she was just feeling insecure and letting the pressure of the competition get to her, which is normal. Maybe Celia misread that as her not wanting to be a model and production fed her things to keep that idea in her head and it turned into this chaos.
Thanks for not thinking the worst about Celia unlike other ppl. Either Thalia or one of the Judges should’ve said it but not Celia. Bit like you said she was tempted. Happens to all of us. Tyra set that whole thing up and then gaslighted Celia. Like Celia’s mistake is no where near as bad as the malicious things Tyra has done in this show

Celia's frustration is very relatable; a lot of the models who get success quickly are the ones who want it the least. As a model scout, I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to have a model that doesn't want to work. I've literally had a boy who after shooting a Dior campaign with Steven Meisel outright quit so he could do construction. If their heart isn't in it, eventually the clients see that and the calls stop coming.
But the way Tyra implies models in the real world don't "mess with other girls' money" when it is SO common for irl models to lie to other models at casting in an attempt to confuse them and throw them off their A game 🙃
@@alexfromme5025 none of my models or any others I know have ever experienced that type of vindictive behavior, there is much more support amongst the common enemy, which is the casting director 😆
I mean, modeling, especially for male models, has got to be one of the most unreliable jobs there is. You can't really blame him.
@@scorpioigor Most guys are not modeling full-time so agencies are very understanding with their models who are in school or pursuing other ventures. Considering he made more in his first two months working than both his parents combined in a year, I would consider it a missed opportunity since he could have done both. Would you take a day off work for 10000£?
I used to be a fashion photographer, but now do weddings. I got sick of setting up photoshoots with models who just didn't care. They just got told they're a model their whole life, and thought that they didn't have to put in any work. And then that looks bad on me as the photographer when the client isn't happy with the final photos.
The money comment was about the beef between her and Naomi Campbell, which in my opinion, was more of the industry pitting them against each other than Naomi herself. Back then, the modeling industry didn't really want two black supermodels, or played up the fact that there could only be one.
Colorism played a major role between Tyra & Naomi. Tyra was favored & benefited from colorism bc of her light complexion. Being human, Naomi became jealous of that & felt less than bc she's dark skinned.

Analyzing reality shows is a good lesson in strategies that abusers use on their victims.
Inconsistent expectations. Gaslighting. Favoritism.
All things that make the contestants feel insecure and uncertain, which leads to the "drama" that producers want
It's so interesting all these years later, looking at who's still "relevant" from these shows. I was so convinced Allison was destined to be a huge top model, and it never happened for her. Meanwhile I STILL see Fo in commercials! She was in a huge Target campaign years ago.
Side note - Aminat is so stunning. Probably the most "raw" modeling potential in this bunch. It's interesting how so often, the one with the most realistic modeling potential makes it the top 3, but doesn't advance beyond that (Eugenia, Amanda, Shandi, Elyse...)
Allison still has a massive following but I think she's just more focused on her personal art and projects
Fo used to be with my agency in LA, she was smart and got an agency that had a lot of lifestyle brand castings. She has a great commercial look, she's honestly probably making way more money than any of the girls who ended up succeeding in fashion [pre social media anyway].
They can't make those girls go on to the final, it would be too obvious they picked the wrong girl. So they eliminate them 3rd place.
I love seeing Raja working! (They’re the makeup artist that was blowing the powdered pigment onto the models’ faces) Raja (aka Roger) is a famous Drag Queen from the RuPaul’s Drag Race universe and they’re a huge fan favorite in the community! They were just crowned the “Queen of She Done Already Had Herses” in the latest All Stars: All Winners season too!

@@krystal7710 Precisely, that's the contradiction. 'Infamous' means that somebody is famous for bad reasons, usually infamous people are disliked because they have done terrible things. So when I read op's comment I couldn't understand if Raja was liked or not. Are they a controversial figure, famous for all the wrong reasons or are they beloved by the audience?

It's an easy mistake to make when a two-letter prefix turns one word into its opposite meaning.
Especially when you have cases like "flammable" and "inflammable" where the same prefix does not change the meaning of the word at all.
English is hard. It's a very illogical language.

They were always shady AF. This photo shoot though, one of my all time favorites. I watched the show for the photo shoots because I absolutely loved the styling, the clothes, the shoots, and then seeing the photos. 🥰

If it was such a problem for Celia to throw someone under the bus, why wasn't she punished for it LAST week? Why drag the drama out again for another week? (Rhetorical question -- we all know why. But good grief.)
So wait, we have seen the judges ask the girls to judge each other's pictures and saying who deserves to be there and who deserves to go home. But all of a sudden it's wrong to try and call someone out, even though production probably probed them to do just that.
It's a good thing Tahlia's hair still looks good immediately after taking out her hairstyle. If it had been me, I'd remove the clip, and then my hair would be sticking straight up for the rest of the panel :x
While I do think that Celia’s comment about another model was unnecessary (what happens at the house should stay at the house), I don’t think this was about teaching Celia a lesson. I think it was teaching every other girl in that room and in future cycles a lesson.

At the end of the day It’s not like Celia was a freaking killer. There are WAY worst sins out there. You’re gonna cut someone’s throat for being a bit nosy when we’ve ALL done that. If Celia is horrible than so are the rest of us. She wasn’t wrong. It just wasn’t her job to say it. There are worse mistakes out there. Plus Tyra edited out the scene for Celia to speak up so Celia can look like the vilian. Y’all’s energy should be going towards Tyra. I blamed Celia too until I found out she was set up. Plus Tyra kept rubbing it on her face all the time. No wonder I started to hating this show.

RAJA, THE DRAG QUEEEEN is the make-up artist is who was blowing powder on their faces. Such an artistic person, love himmm
I think they didn't get enough drama out of it and she was easier to make a villain. Normally certain drama can span for more episodes, or if it's one episode it's more explosive. Since Celia and Tahlia didn't have serious beef like the models normally do, they had to ask Tahlia about it (even tried to do it while doing make up as you pointed out), then put Celia on the chopping block and reprimand her AGAIN. At the end of the day, it was easier to villainize her than doing it to Tahlia, because in normal circumstances when models question being there the judges are insanely harsh and critical about it, hell in a lot of cases they end up in the bottom two, and sometimes sent, or asked to go home. But nope, we can't do that storyline this week.
It was extremely sad when Kim from cycle 10 willingly quit on the first episode & the judges were critically harsh about her quitting but there was a deeper reason behind it. As a result Miss Jay tore her photo from the homeless photo shoot
Naomi has lived in Tyra's mind rent free for years...
It's always about teaching a lesson, it's very rarely about the photos. But honestly, Sandra really had noooo good photos; front, profile, 3/4...that shoot was so bad for her. But she also got no direction either, so kinda setup to fail.
Also pls, if you can, find Celia and do an interview with her. Would be amazing to hear her side of things about this show.
It’s sad to see London in the background every time in a defensive/uncomfortable position. Using her arms to conceal her midsection. She got noticeably bigger only because they pointed it out and the poor thing was surrounded by insecurity. She had a really fun attitude at the very start and they made that fade away throughout the show. Hope she is healthy and thriving today!
This was a great photoshoot - the colour powder was extremely well deployed and the end results were fantastic.
One thing you mention is colour toning - would it be possible for you to explain it a bit? I don't understand the difference between good or bad toning.
I think what happened with the blue is an issue with the color itself and colorgrading. All other colors even the cool ones were a little bit warmer, but blue was just blue with extra blue making her paler skin blue too when trying to bring out the color of the powder

When the models "fail" on a photoshoot, that is in part Jay's failure to bring our the best in the models, but then again, he's got a script/storyline to promote, so he's not always going to want some of the models to do well.

Firstly, ADDICTED to these reactions and your insights as a photographer.
Secondly, when Tyra said, “I think it’s a safety thing” to Tahlia, I took it to mean Tahlia pins her hair like that because that’s her comfort zone and Tyra thought she should loosen up.
To be fair to Celia I’m pretty sure there is an interview out there where she talks about how Tyra point blank told the girls at panel if there is anything they should know, since they don’t see what goes on in the house, to say it now and production prompted her to do it. They set that girl up and she was punished for it.
This needs to be talked about more. Reality shows set people up so much. It's a problem.
By Tyra saying that someone has been "Messing with her money" for years, i'm pretty sure she was referring to Naomi Campbell. I know they were feuding for a while.
Two things. First, Sandra was set up. They specifically picked a face-on photo. Second, everyone was mad at Celia throwing Talia under the bus but ignoring the fact that Talia was already playing in traffic at rush hour. She said she didn't want to be there while on set of the photoshoot. Jay was right there. You know it was eventually going to get back to Tyra.

What emotional correlates with grey? I would have no idea what to do with that. Did the model in the dog house get the hardest colour to embody deliberately?
You know what would be helpful, showing them their best and worst shots so it clearer what's working and what's not.
Only thing I could think of was sadness for grey.
I love the photoshoot concept! I would have chosen different emotions for some of these colours but still the artists who got the models ready did amazing
Allison was ahead of her time. She should have won but always came 2nd place. Why, I don’t know.
The fact that Tyra keeps bringing up an situation that happened more than 10 years ago .. tells me that she holds on to grudges.. which isn’t healthy .. Tyra you need to get over it .. for Celia to throw another girl under the bus yes it was wrong .. but for the other judges to bring it up during panel .. like I think she learn her lesson by now ..
I find this very ironic how in the next episode, Celia gets first call out and Tahlia gets eliminated. They did Tahlia so wrong in my opinion.
They also did Celia wrong. Like yah Celia should’ve let Tahlia (or one of the judges) say it but that doesn’t mean it would’ve happened. Trya was looking for Celia to do it. She set up that whole situation and then acted surprised when it happened. Tyra is a snake

If it was the other around where Tahlia threw Celia under the bus (even if Tahlia was being set up by Tyra to do it), Celia would've feel upset too just like Tahlia. I'm not saying Celia was the bad guy, but she was in the wrong to go along with it.

You can blow color powder and take photos any time you want! I absolutely love this concept, and did something similar when I did a shoot to help a MUA friend build their portfolio. GORGEOUS!
Tyra hasn’t lied. John Casablancas who was the owner of Elite Models told the press that Naomi threatened him to make him drop Tyra from the agency, Tyra left with IMG models. There are reports where Naomi told Karl Lagerfeld (Chanel, Fendi and His own brand designer) to ban Tyra from those catwalks. Naomi told Gianni Versace not to use Tyra 15 minutes before the show and the model was cancelled too. Naomi has denied the accusations about the Versace show but she was the muse of Gianni, she was a very close friend. Naomi shared an articule on her instagram story bashing Tyra and calling her the real mean girl, Naomi deleted it but screenshots were taken.
It has definitely not been one sided story.
Naomi has been also accused of physical abuse towards their employees, she has been related with blood diamonds in South Africa. Not proven but she has been questioned about Jeffrey Epstein but y’all trying to come for Tyra…
There are reports of some other black models like Beverly Peele being mistreated by Campbell.
Also Luo Zilin was fired from her agency after Naomi did everything in her power to block the up coming model.
Brazilian model Marcelle Bittar has spoken against Naomi and even confronted her during an altercation in Sao Pablo.

It seems like they cant accept that some people cant emote as much with their facial muscles. I hear terms like "afraid" and "holding back" slapped onto models who arent scared, they just dont have dramatic facial expressions.

Why question angel for white but then ask for passion orange? Maybe it's the artist in me that falls back on color theory that I am kind of confused with some of the inspirations
I love the concept but I feel like a lot of them did the same neutral expression. Like the photos are beautiful. They are beautiful. But I'm not getting earth from the girl with the green or whatever orange was. Even yellow, where the model came out smiling and being happy, or white wanting to be angelic, they chose a very neutral photo. I'm not seeing embodiment of color, I'm seeing beautiful faces with pretty colors on them.

The episode begins with a huge shouting match between all the girls involved in the house, so it was definitely not forgiven by Thalia or some of the other girls. Putting Celia in the bottom two in think was used more to close that storyline and move on.
Now I’m not a model or do I look good in photos, but if you need like a practice person on blowing powder on them, I will be willing to offer myself as tribute.

The Judges love to drag down the girls themself when one of the girls questions her choices
but I bet in this case beacuse that girl got dragged down by another model the judges are just temporarily acting supportive only to get her back later in the season.. like that sounds logical
or who knows they may for ONCE actually been nice without any evil motives behind it xD which would be good

Edit : also the Girls with the Green and Yellow powder looked the best absolutely 2 gorgeous models . it's probably the colors are just contrasting very well with there dark skin so just the combination looks incredible paired together . they couldn't have picked better colors to use on those 2 .

I'd really love to see you do some copycat photoshoots of interesting but less pricey shoots like this one; you could probably just grind up some cheap eyeshadow. This one especially would probably turn out lovely with your style.
Feel a little bad that I just kind of laughed when Tyra immediately did her whole Hair Police and Style Enforcement act. I'm past the point of being annoyed or frustrated (most of the time) and now just find it ridiculous. Like really? Really??
The one doing the powder is Sutan Amrull also known as Raja. They are an incredible makeup artist and a drag fashion icon. They won RuPaul’s Drag Race season 3 and she’s loved by many. Definitely one of my favorite drag queens.

Celia’s comment was very cringe and uncomfortable, but I believe she was just doing what she thought was right. She was trying to stick up for someone she thought deserved to stay in the competition more than someone else. Aren’t the judges always getting mad at anyone who even hints about not wanting to be on the show? I’m not surprised Celia thought that comment was a big deal when she heard it
Celia is a Karen and unprofessional. She 100% is messing with Tahlia's bag, she tried to get her sent home. That is clown behavior. Sandra photoshoot wasn't giving, I'm not surprise she had a bad photo. I would be surprised is she had a good one. They both should have went home.
