I have wanted something like this forever. Like, immediately after Halo 2 came out, I've always wanted to know what The Arbiter (Thel' Vadam) was up to before the events of Halo 2. Had he seen the Chief in person? Was he feared by the Covenant? He became one of my favorite characters super quickly. I also wanted a proper follow up with the ODSTs from Halo 3 ODST. Maybe a spin off Halo Title, "Halo The Lost Stories" or something, would be great.
The Halo community is truly blessed to have such a high quality lore channel. Most channels would have just talked over gameplay footage and cutscenes. Where as this feels like I’m watching a proper in game terminal or something similar.
Bit late to comment but HiddenXperia and Halo Followers are prime examples of what you just said. Both channels will literally find any excuse to have a 10 minute video, and just talk about things we already know. Admittedly, Halo Follower is way worse, that dude does not deserve a channel with all the bullshit misleading videos he's made.

I love the irony and awesomeness of Sgt. Johnson, a SPARTAN-I, always happened to work with so many SPARTANs time and time again. And the fact that he was is the only known survivor to have seen both the start and end of the war with the Covenant.

What I really love about Sangheili is that despite their undeniable physical superiority to humans is that despite their overwhelming belief of them being superior to humans, they still subcautiously cannot help but feel a sense of honor and respect for their enemy and near complete equal: the Spartans. something they didn't have as much for their covenant subordinates. they were utterly blinded by the the pride of the covenant religion, but even they could not deny the spartans' prowess in close quarter combat with their brethern. so much so it would prove to be vital in defecting from their former masters as their human counterparts seemed to be more merciful.
Theysa can still bring Johnson back and when chief begins to ask "How did yousa survive, yousa died in mesa arms..." Johnson will say: "Sorry Chief, dat's classified"
I really loved seeing the Chief as the part of this ad-hoc team, First Strike really felt like an adventure on its own, like an entire movie could be made about it. Or a game, but the differences in media allowed First Strike to explore things an actual Halo game typically wouldn't go into. The fact that thanks to that crystal, the events of the novel technically take place before the Autumn even arrives at Installation 04 blows my mind but in a fun sci-fi way.
Truth had to be honest and voice his displeasure, Mercy let us go with one dislike instead of several from his alt accounts, and Regret disliked at first, changed his mind, but he forgot the title of the video and already cleared his browser history so now he can't remove the dislike.
FTL travel is already physically impossible, so why not eh. The only reason more series don't mess with this aspect is it can make things very confusing.
Yes, a slipspace crystal flake used by the Forerunners back in the past. At least it wasn't designed for Multiversal travel. You know what a wackier and debased Dragon Ball universe's incarnation of (Mr.) Perfect Cell once said, "Multiverse Theory's a b***h." (And recent fiction like Marvel and DC films nowadays has already proven those words increasingly right, in my opinion.)
It's already been mentioned in another comment, but I was surprised that Maria-062's testing of the Mark VI armor wasn't mentioned, but perhaps this can just be easily gone over as a sort of prelude for the Battle of Earth.

Currently rereading some Halo books in the run up to Infinite in chronological order (Chief focused - original 3 books and Silent Storm) followed by Ghosts of Onyx... also considering Shadows of Reach but unsure. About to start Section V: Reach in FoR tomorrow, also I assume Jun dropped Halsey off at Castle Base shortly before 0400 Hours (UNSC Standard) since Cortana locates Chief's full service record while Halsey was passing through security.

I remember when “CE” was reserved as a reference only for the Custom Edition expansion of the PC port for Halo Combat Evolved. The first Halo game was always referred to as either Halo Combat Evolved or just Halo. Halo CE was always Custom Edition. Custom Edition allowed fans and devs to upload custom built maps to the online multiplayer. Does anybody remember Hugeass? It was a massive map. On my PC, it wouldn’t even render end-to-end. Standing in the middle, I could not see either teams bases. It had flyable Longsword fighters with nukes. It also had a vehicle called a tachikoma which looked like a combination between a toilet and a crab, which I later found out was from some obscure animé. There were also some fighter jets and flyable Pelican drop ships with wing mounted rocket pods. The coolest thing about the map was the “light switch”, an invisible target outside of the map boundary that could be reached by flying over a low spot in the perimeter mountain wall in a Longsword and dropping a nuke. It was a bit of tight spot, so dropping the nuke meant blowing up the Longsword and killing yourself. I almost forgot the warthog teleports and the Scorpion tanks that actually looked like giant robotic scorpions. I loved that map.
This video was amazing, the visualization was so great to help us dumbies follow along! Even though I read the book long ago, it was so nice to see things. Great job!
One thing that is missing from the games, that only really books touched on, was how much the Spartans enjoyed fighting. They share smiles and jokes about their tactics, reminisce about their trainers and lament regulations that they often ignore because they're not made for Spartan, but for normal humans. They have so much personality and joy in their existence, despite the war. It's only towards the end, where the endless losses, where their technical success paled in comparison to all the colonies and lives lost anyways, started to wear on their morale. I want to see more of those Spartans, in their prime and loving it. We get a taste of this in Halo 5 and Halo Wars, but everything in the games takes place in the final months of the Human Covenant War, where all the characters, Spartan, ODST and civilian alike are just tired. Even Halo Infinite, Chief is the Old man now, doing it because he's still the best and people need him, but the joy of it has long since left him. I just want to see the Spartans happy.

Yep, here's hoping the mysterious black-armored Elite is still Thel 'Vadamee. Possible retconned lore be darned! And nicely enough, some Sins of the Prophets' ship descriptions and sometimes lore actually are now part of the canon. Kudos to the SotP creators and 343i for doing such a thing.
One thing to bring up in Arby’s report. He mentioned the humans released the flood? I’m pretty sure the covenant did when looking for holy relics as discussed in the books/game.
If there was one thing in the lore the humans had a technological edge over the Covies it was that Human Smart AIs were fortunately superior to Covenant ones who apparently their AI tech was rather in its infancy and derived from humans
First Strike is my favorite story out of all of the extended lore. The most recent Shadows of Reach gave me good memories of it. Also ironic that many complained that H5 needed contextual story to bridge the timeline, but so did H2 from CE.
Yeah but the difference is that halo 2 only needed the extended lore as background knowledge. You didnt need to know the background lore to understand halo 2s plot, as it was fairly standalone. But halo 5 directly continued narratives that where started in books, comics, a tv series, halo 4 spartan ops, and more.
I think H2 and H5 had similar sudden gaps, and both used exposition to fill in the details well enough. I won't defend H5 as a good story in comparison, just saying that HCE-H2 dropped you from the middle of space to safe at home, and to understand why you'd have to read at least First Strike to understand why. Bungie was notorious for leaving gaps and using retcons to make the story better, hence ODST filling in the events of Earth since H2/3 had such a turbulent development, as well as the messy Battle of Reach timeline.
Probably not, the only person who knew 6 even existed was most likely Halsey, and by the time she was recovered by Chief they had to evacuate the planet.

Due to severe dyslexia I’ve listened to books most of my life. It’s always interesting to hear the different pronunciations people end up using who’ve read books the same books. Like “Thel ‘Vadam” I read / say like he’s relate to Jean Claude ‘Vadam. Not like he’s a Maine yankee in the Master Chiefs court. It something I’ve run into a lot with the Dark Tower series. Good job on the video too… For the most part… I mean you forgot about that thing that happened to them right after they’re at that place and before they got on that ship to go to that other place, you know with all the aliens and stuff…😁
That goes unaddressed in the games or lore, believe it or not. My current theory is that both Chips and Stacker come from families of quintuplets or something, explaining all the Chips Dubbos and Sgt. Stackers across the games.

First time seeing Halo, the regenerative shields on the Mjolnir Armor was so awesome. My brother and one of our friends Matt were playing, my brother handed me the controller and i was soon swarmed in Covenant beasts, im out of ammo and both my brother and Matt are yelling to hit them, im asking how, matt screms "Its B! B for 'beat'!!!" And we all laughed so hard.. i played up until Halo 3, i think thats the one where you start in a jungle type setting anyways. I acfually want to get an xbox again and play thru the entire series and finish up where i left off, and play some Reach as well tho i hear its a bit of a sensitive subject..
I really hope the Sins of the Prophets design for the DDS-class carrier makes it into canon one day, because I love it so fucking much. Edit: Also, the Halo question that vexes me most to this day is the question of what the absolute fuck the deal was with Ascendant Justice's AI.

The most obvious explanation for that is that they captured a human AI at some point and experimented on it, but I can't really see them going that far with a piece of technology made by the vile infidels. More concretely, I believe the statement is that the Covenant had a total ban on high-level AI because they had at least a summary knowledge of the events surrounding Mendicant Bias. So what's the exception here?

I noticed much of Fred's perspective wasn't here, including his dive out of orbit in Pelicans with all of the S2s except Linda & James just before the Autumn left Reach (this part is the major retcon as the Autumn never came back to the surface in The Fall of Reach book). Unless this is part of the retcon stuff 343 did with Reach, the details at 9:40 aren't discussed until 13:52. Halsey also erases Cortana's memory of both her conversation with John just then (to ensure he's the only other one who knows about Johnson's condition and that the choice remains his) as well as the details of the crystal's space-time manipulation (fearing what Section Three would do with it).
And all Johnson had to say about this was that it’s classified

Yeah but the difference is that halo 2 only needed the extended lore as background knowledge. You didnt need to know the background lore to understand halo 2s plot, as it was fairly standalone. But halo 5 directly continued narratives that where started in books, comics, a tv series, halo 4 spartan ops, and more.
I think H2 and H5 had similar sudden gaps, and both used exposition to fill in the details well enough. I won't defend H5 as a good story in comparison, just saying that HCE-H2 dropped you from the middle of space to safe at home, and to understand why you'd have to read at least First Strike to understand why.
Bungie was notorious for leaving gaps and using retcons to make the story better, hence ODST filling in the events of Earth since H2/3 had such a turbulent development, as well as the messy Battle of Reach timeline.

Probably not, the only person who knew 6 even existed was most likely Halsey, and by the time she was recovered by Chief they had to evacuate the planet.
Chef also lost all his health, never managed to get that back.
This was really good- will you be doing one for Halo 2- Halo 3? It’s always confused me how characters (Like Johnson & Miranda Keyes) somehow are back on Earth before Halo 3 starts if Chief leaves Delta Halo before them
The quickest explanation is that the time between 2 and 3 is actually about 2 weeks.

With the lack of marines that survived, but evidence that they did (ex: Chips Dubbo), my head canon is that Chips, along with a handful of army troopers from Reach, and marines, steal a phantom and head back to Earth, just in time before halo 2
First Strike would make for a really cool Halo game. Perhaps you could play as the different Spartans throughout the story and maybe even Johnson.
Due to severe dyslexia I’ve listened to books most of my life. It’s always interesting to hear the different pronunciations people end up using who’ve read books the same books. Like “Thel ‘Vadam” I read / say like he’s relate to Jean Claude ‘Vadam. Not like he’s a Maine yankee in the Master Chiefs court. It something I’ve run into a lot with the Dark Tower series. Good job on the video too… For the most part… I mean you forgot about that thing that happened to them right after they’re at that place and before they got on that ship to go to that other place, you know with all the aliens and stuff…😁
What about the miraculous and mysterious escape and survival of Chips Dubbo and Marcus Stacker?
That goes unaddressed in the games or lore, believe it or not. My current theory is that both Chips and Stacker come from families of quintuplets or something, explaining all the Chips Dubbos and Sgt. Stackers across the games.

I hope we get Stacker back in Infinite, I know he's a really obscure character, but I love how he appears in every main game besides 5 despite that. Honestly the fact that 343 included him in Halo 4 is astounding.

First time seeing Halo, the regenerative shields on the Mjolnir Armor was so awesome. My brother and one of our friends Matt were playing, my brother handed me the controller and i was soon swarmed in Covenant beasts, im out of ammo and both my brother and Matt are yelling to hit them, im asking how, matt screms "Its B! B for 'beat'!!!" And we all laughed so hard.. i played up until Halo 3, i think thats the one where you start in a jungle type setting anyways. I acfually want to get an xbox again and play thru the entire series and finish up where i left off, and play some Reach as well tho i hear its a bit of a sensitive subject..
We should get a Halo Combat Evolved 2 game that takes place during these events

The most obvious explanation for that is that they captured a human AI at some point and experimented on it, but I can't really see them going that far with a piece of technology made by the vile infidels. More concretely, I believe the statement is that the Covenant had a total ban on high-level AI because they had at least a summary knowledge of the events surrounding Mendicant Bias. So what's the exception here?

I noticed much of Fred's perspective wasn't here, including his dive out of orbit in Pelicans with all of the S2s except Linda & James just before the Autumn left Reach (this part is the major retcon as the Autumn never came back to the surface in The Fall of Reach book). Unless this is part of the retcon stuff 343 did with Reach, the details at 9:40 aren't discussed until 13:52. Halsey also erases Cortana's memory of both her conversation with John just then (to ensure he's the only other one who knows about Johnson's condition and that the choice remains his) as well as the details of the crystal's space-time manipulation (fearing what Section Three would do with it).
