do you remember if you had to let the transmission crossmember down? or if you could do this with just letting the mount go and not touching the crossmember? previous owner welded my crossmember to the bottom of the car.
Crossmember was removed. I would highly recommend removing and repairing your crossmember and subframe before doing anything else to whatever car you’re working on.
Hey - may I ask what brand/ kind of cherry picker did you use? I discovered last night mine has too short a beam for a third gen camaro ! Im not interested in taking the front end off the car! Maybe post where I can get one!
Harbor freight 2 ton folding hoist. But if you watch more of the videos on this car you'll see we usually set the engine in from the side of the car instead of the front. 😉
Your plan of what you are doing is spot on. It's also going be nice with the extra room. Added plus: Since the engine bay and surrounding areas are white, it will make working on it much easier. Just like the old super and prostock cars. White helps in the dark as well to see leaks and othe problems.
100% in agreement in that one. That’s actually part of the reason I’m not going to bother painting it. 😉 Funny story...the very first engine I ever built myself was for an 82 Z28 that I bought when I was 16. It was white and o thought it would be cool to paint the new engine white to match the car. HUGE mistake. Within 2 weeks I could see dirt and oil vapors collecting everywhere on that engine. 🤣🤣🤣
@@BadLuckGarage Also shows if you have a leak easily. Almost everything I build ends up with a leak over time, no matter how good I seal it up or brand of gaskets. Thanks for the great uploads!
I did the A/C delete and you have to get a different fan motor. You were saying about swap motors alot I definitely would get the UMR tubular K-frame they are a awesome. It opens the engine bay especially on the 3rd gen camaro.
Yea I'm stocking with UMI on this build. But that K member wont happen for a long time. I can think of at least a dozen better things to spend the $550 on first.
@@BadLuckGaragejust got it pulled out the 1 ton worked just fine at the 1/4 ton setting surprisingly but I also didn’t have it sitting for long on the jack
@@BadLuckGarageI will also be using a lot of your vids to help in the direction I’m going, I plan on keeping my 305 for now and just beefing it up a little with cam and lifters. But the wiring is a mess
Unbolt everything attaching the engine to the car, unplug all the wire harness connections, unhook all hoses, coolant, and transmissions lines, pull the engine.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. I’m wanting to do a 68 Chevelle build in the future. Not for racing or hotrodding but just to cruise in and reminisce. Probably with a small block and a four speed or maybe just an auto. Old school build in memory of my father and build it to look just like the one he had when I was a toddler. The problem is I can’t find one for any less than $10,000 and even at that price point they’re in pretty rough shape. Of the channel grows and revenue increases then I may be able to make it happen one day.....maybe.
Thanks brother. I say 75% racecar because I’m really hoping that I’m building something that I can maybe to power cruises with. Thats my ultimate dream for this thing. We’ll see how it all works out.
The chevy 2.8L v6 was not a bad motor I have about 300,000 on my 85 blazer s10 about to put one in my 1985 Nissan 720 just picked one up from a friend for $300 with 60,000 miles on it
If I’m not happy with the steering I may think about it down the road. But honestly I would be more prone to buying an actual manual steering rack than I would to spend money in power steering. With skinnies in the front it’s just not needed. And even if the unit fits under the dash, you still need hoses and a reservoir for fluid if I’m not mistaking. It’s basically just adding back everything I just removed....the pump just wouldn’t be belt driven.
Ok i see what you're talking about now. But Im not sure how I would adapt that to work with my factory steering column or even fit in my dash unless I was planning to gut the dash, which Im not. Still may be something i look into way down the road....maybe.
So happy to finally have this engine out. That’s always the biggest step and biggest motivator for me to get these swaps done!
Can you pull the motor and trans at the same time with just the radiator out of the way and still have all the ac stuff

Damn! your motor sounds good in the intro.
That engines been going for 43 years. It’s about worn out now. 🤣
Bad Luck Garage if it’s a Chevy it’s just broke in lol
Intro is a classic 😅🤙🏾
Yea I was having a moment,lol. 🤣👍

Amen to that! Better to be able to see them to locate them quickly. 👍

Just now starting this process and bought the same picker as you I believe, is that in the 1/4 ton selection or did you buy the 2 ton crane?
Yea we’ve got 2-ton foldable lifts.

Can you give the link for the individual you did the shout out to? I was going to add them to my library of sources.
Any details in how you did the engine removal?

Love this build use to have a 88 Camaro IROC Z wish would not have sold off
Great to see you making progress! You skipped the nitrous and went straight to turbo 🤣😂
Looking forward to seeing this build 👍
Yea this is an old worn out 43 year old engine though. 🤣
@@BadLuckGarage it's called vintage 😂🤣👍
That’s what I’m gonna start telling the wife. I’m not old, I’m vintage. 😜

You and me both! We’re a ways away from seeing that yet though.
@@BadLuckGarage I feel you on that one. I'm putting my turbo truck up for sale. I want to get a 69 chevy el camino. Time for a new project.

I love the decal. Like I said in the video, I like it even more since I became a grandpa last month.
Awesome video today thanks

Lol, well I manage my channel at work so....

Pretty sure he already knows. But they can’t find anyone else dumb enough to stay on this job so I think I’m ok.
What motor motors are you using?

That was funny
Use the electric power steering module out of a Chevy Cruze so you can still have power steering without the hydraulics
I had actually thought about doing something like this. But it’s about cost, weight, and space.
The units are really pretty small and I think it fits under the Dashboard

I love how I cant find a single video on how to rip the fucken motor out of one of these I'm doing this with no experience
That’s because all you do is unbolt everything attaching it to the car then pull it out.

How many horsepower you got brother? I might swap you into my truck 😂
LMAO. You don’t want me. My rings are worn out and I have a bent rod. 🤣
Bad Luck Garage you sure? Sounded pretty strong to me lol!
