The bankers special serials to 1930 but the letter dates it being shipped in 30 as well. Collectors remember when getting a colt letter to always put in the notes to ask the historian to add manufacturers date, not all guns letter the same year and date being the same. Some guns sit for a longtime maybe years before being shipped. So always ask for them to include manufacturers date along with the ship date.
The Ortgies guns were imported to the US in fairly significant quantities in the early 20's in .25, .32 and .380 cals. Most people have absolutely no idea what they are. They're actually a very cool little pocket pistol that was pretty well made. It is unknown how many were actually produced but the numbers must have been fairly substantial, as they aren't especially rare even today, although they have some parts that are impossible to source anymore and many are nothing more than wall hangers now.
I have a RMS Banker's Special, per my Colt letter, from the next contract, in 1931. While the US Marines were pressed into security work for the post office at times in the 1920's and 1930's, the US Post Office was NOT part of the War dept. As such, the Railway Mail Service - as part of the Post Office - sourced their arms independently from the US military. The RMS Banker's Specials were all chambered in ".38 Colt Police Positive", also called 38 Short Colt (identical to 38 S&W), as the Banker's Special was only chambered in that and .22 LR - the cylinder and frame is way too short to accept a 38 Special. If you wanted a Snubbie in 38 Special, you had to get a Detective Special.
In Germany until 1990s there was a Bahnpolizei ( Railway Police) and Postschutz ( Postal Protection) , because both Railway and Post had been totally Gouvernement run companies. Today both companies are more private than state owned, so they have now only private security guards, in case of Railway/ Deutsche Bahn, it is a company owned security service. For real Police duties in trains and railway station, currently Federal Police is responsible.
The US Government paid it's employees in cash until the early 1980s, then it began paying with a check and the bi-weekly (or monthly if a Congressional or military employee) scramble became to find a place to cash it for free. Eventually it moved to payroll deposit.
@@cbroz7492 You waited in line, filled out a receipt, handed it to the pay master, he counted out your cash, another officer counted it then handed it to you, and you were dismissed. You had to also repeat your service number to them or later it was your SSN#.
I have a question why matching? I used to manufacture medical instruments as you know they should interchange with each other, but we had an operation when the instrument was fully assembled. We had to do an operation which kind of made switching parts around. They might not fit all the time is that the reason they are all matching because they had to have Fits and they weren’t interchangeable all the time
No, these were in what we call 380 ACP (9mm Kurz), not the 9mm Luger. They were still marked 9mm because that is the correct caliber diameter. The 9mm Luger ran almost 15,000 psi higher than the 380 auto...a blowback pistol (non locking breach) of the size of the PPK generally would not be able to handle that.
@@bmitchellc Yeah,...they tried to market that nomenclature but it didn't take...Can't blame them for not wanting to put S&W's name on their product. I've got one that is marked as he describes on the back strap...probably a postal unit.
I hate you. You have the best job ever. Id be happy with beaters. I used ro have a decent collection then got ill and had to go on disability. That ended my collection. I still have 1 or 2 items of little value. From making good money to making nothing really hurts when your passion is firearms. I do have a few slides but cant find any beat up frames for them. If you have any extra frames to goto ffl that are very worn let me know. We can maybe work something out. Help the little guy please ....
I am SICK AND TIRED of gun Karens who would belittle you for touching the trigger. Of a gun that YOU cleared, in a room that they are not in, AND, the firing pin is removed! Yes, if I am showing a firearm to someone, I will clear it, hand it to them and have THEM clear it so we both know it is safe. Oh NO! You swept the camera with it! Yeah, so what. I’m on the other side of the camera so even if you did fire it, all you would hit was your camera. There… I’m done… for today.

Love that little Colt. Thanks
I own two P08, “so that makes me an expert 😂!!!!” Love the Channel, following you for years. Thanks for the on going education - it never ends for me!
So many beautiful guns!
Very decent schooling on handguns, thanks.

For everyone’s information. DRY FIRING IS WHAT CAUSES THE TIP OF THE FIRING PIN TO BREAK OFF. 😮

We still got paid in cash in the 60's and 70's in the military.

My cousin in Italy has the Beretta it was a partisans gun that has a swastikas carved in the handle with some nicks next to it
What do u think #13 iorn cross luger is worth?
Solo qualità, greerting from Italy.
The PPK in 9mm IS 9mm not 9mm short. If 9mm short it would be marked 9mm Kurtz ( .380 ACP) would it not?

@ Thanks. I just thought it would be marked 9mm Kurz if .380.
@ no need. 9mm Luger wouldn’t even fit in the mag or chamber.
To avoid confusion, people should always say nine mm Luger or Parabellum. Saying just "nine mm" invites confusion.
@@frenchfan3368 No kidding! I thought this was chambered in 9x18 Makarov. 😀

The Banker's is in 38 S&W not "special".
Technically, it was "38 Short Colt", but that's identical to 38 S&W. I have a Banker's Spl. from the next contract after this one.

Actually I believe it was 38 Colt New Police whose dimensions just happened to be the same 38 S&W.

The Ortgies,....I remember in Humphrey Bogart's " Sahara "
The German Pilot had one as a hidden back up gun they found when frisking him.
