All those triangles on peoples faces started to look like an Illuminati conspiracy video

"Low Key, beyond being Thor's brother," was my favorite part of this video.
Holly Stanford, now that's what I call a low key Thor reference.

Ryan talks so fast but he never stutters. This is impossible, must be genetics...
+SuckYaMudda09 I'm a robot.
OMG!!!
Hahaha He reminds me of those horse racing and antique dealers who speak ridiculously fast :P
It's a problem for non native English speakers. I had to slow down the playback speed and to turn the subtitles on. Would it be such a problem to talk a bit slower?
I stuttered reading this.
Ryan this was AMAZING! ive been waiting for you to get back to stuff like this. im a huge fan and have been for years but im not gonna lie i drifted away because i wasnt getting the more informative content but you won me back with this one. Much love duuuddeee. :)
I've been watching your channel for a long time and I'd say this is my favorite concise yet in depth lesson vid you've done. Great work :)
As an aspiring filmmaker, you guys have no idea how thankful I am to have your videos. Every week you help me learn so much, and honestly I would be lost without you guys teaching me the skills I need to know!! #nothingbutloveforfilmriot
how has ur film career gone in four years lol im curious
fr bahaha@@ben-lk7eg
This is my favorite video you guys have made in a while! keep it up!
Great episode on the basic lighting, The triangle light on the face looks awesome and cross lighting was a great tip! thank you guys keep it up!
Thank you for this video. I hate looking up lighting techniques and only finding videos about three point lighting. I'm glad there's something out there that goes more in depth to actual basic _film_ lighting techniques.
These lighting tutorials are super helpful. Keep it up!
Loved this video! Thank you guys for all the awesome content!!!
One of the better 101 lighting vids I've seen. Nice, quick, and non-nonsense. Nice, tx.
Absolutely loved this! These are the types of videos that really got me hooked into your channel and into film all those years ago. Really looking forward to what's in store this year! :)

Yummy delicious lighting! It seriously changes the mood of any scene. Not the camera.
Great explanation! Will keep these in mind when i eventually get to making short films
Great techniques and, as you said, cross over well into the photo world. Thank you!!
Very helpful! I'm in the middle of moving from writing scripts to actually filming them, so this is extremely useful info (as always!). Thanks a bunch!
I love all things Film Riot but this kind of video is definitely my favorite
🔴 Man oh man this is good stuff. Thanks for delivering such good insight and info on lighting. Really hope to implement some of these great new tips.
This was very good no nonsense crash course. Thank you!
Congrats guys for 1M subs! Like your videos and your work :)
gosh this is exactly what I needed. thank you!
Love this look at lighting terms and what they practically mean in video/film. It's easy to search up a WikiHow or some article on the web, but seeing it in action, as the light physically moves is a really good learning tool. This is awesome.

Thank you Ryan and Josh
nice! its been a trend in online filmmaking tutorials that they are just mentioning the same things over and over but you guys are saying new and cool things that I have never heard of before like short siding and broad and all that stuff
Well there's only so much info available and a lot of it is common/shared throughout the community (unless youre innovating new techniques/names).
Amazing evergreen content
This is a great reference video.
Great tips!
nice ! way to cover a bunch of techniques in less than 5 min !
Been waiting for a tutorial on how to light a bandwagon fan. Thanks!
Just curious, how is your background such a "pure" black? Like no grain at all. Was it much brighter prior and you made it look darker in post? Thanks
Black backround, low iso (or camera with very good iso) and backlit

hmm green screen is the solution (I think)
great episode
Great stuff.
thanks for the video!
Great Video!
cant wait for your ghost recon short
HOLY HECK you talk faster than lightning! Really helpful tips but I literally need to re watch your video several times before even comprehending all the information; WOW :D
Awesome! Thanks.
I'm just going to say how awesome I think it was that you used Road to Perdition for some of the examples of lighting. It's a great movie, but not as well known and appreciated as it certainly should be.

Hmmmm I gotta use these for one of my weekly shorts!
I looked up the DF-50, and boy! I wasn't expecting it to cost so much :O
Nice tips, thanks! :D
Picked up on the Loki joke! Brilliant little insert!
+Michael Shaw :)
my favorite part of your videos is when you show us all of your expensive equipment
I put a Philips Hue bulb in my soft box light so I can change the color temperature or add color to a scene. It's probably one of my coolest video lighting ideas yet!
Great content, gave me some ideas.
I'd also like to know how to prevent banding and artifacting in dimmly light places. I never figured out how to prevent these in-camera. I know that those things have to do with codecs and compression, but I know how to correct those. Just having a pitch black background without artifacting would be a great thing.
Also what about lighting paint (e.g black ) without having a specular of the light?
I have never been this early ever
Notification Squad !!!
NZMAU31 ALL DAY 🙏🏽💯🤘🏾
Thanks for this. Lighting is the main thing I struggle with.
That's an awesome light
Always great info! Thanks! Question: In your garage lighting setup, did you light it brighter than what we are seeing and dim it down in post? Or light it for what we actually see? And which is better? Because I see you have a lot of great solid black areas. Thanks
I was just recently having trouble with this. I pretty much mastered 3 point lighting. But I was just wondering how I could get good lighting without soo many light sources. This helped me a lot. Perfect timing!
Check out cinematography db's recent videos. He has a lighting workshop, where he covers some stuff you may like, also I plan to get more into it with my videos, if you're interested. Best of luck bro.

I also have an ebook available for download that goes over beginner video lighting. Ask and you shall receive.
