    Note to anyone just starting off with bikes don't keep the kickstart depressed as you will knack the return spring. Not telling this owner how to suck eggs but standing with your weight on the Kickstarter your can hear the spring tightening and whining..not good. Should have full choked and advanced timing IMO..

    Gotta tell one on myself about an untucked shoelace loop...
    You haven't lived until one of them gets stuck over the end of your shifting lever, & can't put that foot down.

      I don’t wear lace boots. In the 70s I rode with a guy who got his stupid bell bottoms pants legs caught in the shifter at a stop light! 😹🙀😹🙀

      I did better than that, just ridden my bike in to get serviced, got on the shop loaner and headed up the road. Stopped at a red light and fell over. Forgot I didn't have a sidebar attached, 😢

      Mine cost £135 in 1964, and that was a lot of money, took me 3 months to save up for doing 2 jobs.

      My grandad left one of these along with 2 other rare bikes in the garage of his old house when he moved out, god knows why because they ran just fine (my dad used to use them without asking)

      @A. Fox (Guitarman) It was not known as "The Beast" for nothing, mine once threw me over the handlebars back in 1964. Hammond really had no idea how to handle one properly.

      @NigelOrmsvik that settles it.
      Had my right foot crushed and my 1450 does it to the starter on rare occasions but my thumb is fine.
      Mine was made 10/98, demonstrator FXDL sold through dock gate 20 so probably came from Warrs of London.
      It'll be historic one day but I think of it as new.

    No electric start?
    I'll give you £1,000 for it.

    It's a beautiful bike, but I had no idea it only made 55 hp out of 1000cc. A Harley Sportster can beat that.

    • @theslimrealshady
      @theslimrealshady Місяць тому +1

      That is 7bhp more than the 1200cc Panhead if we compare what was being made in 1948.

    I love British bike's and own a few but these things are way over priced for what they are , anything V twin has a nasty price tag in todays market . Not worth the money .

      You clearly know very little about Vincents, let alone ever ridden on.

      I had my right foot crushed and don't fancy starting a black shadow with the left, even more so if it's warm/hot.
