This series almost never hits the kind of horror that makes me unable to sleep for a week (I’m super sensitive to specific horror tropes so it’s weird when something manages to hit the right notes without fucking me up for a while) but good sound design consistently gets to me WAY more than visuals and words do. This series manages to skirt the edge of that for me and only a handful of episodes had stuff where the sound design got under my skin bad enough for me to swap to the transcript. Can’t remember the specific ones but definitely stuff relating to the hive. it’s the voice acting and the much more grounded type of horror in this that messed me up worse than any of the supernatural stuff. SPOILERS but I’ll try to keep it vague - - - Both of them involve Elias digging into the deepest trauma he can stab at with Martin and, later, I think Melanie? And it’s hard enough to listen to that part because that’s far far too close to reality to benefit from the distance and abstraction bringing supernatural stuff into it can provide. But it’s when he twists the knife by using his powers to make both of them see the most painful things he could possibly pick, ESPECIALLY in Melanie’s case... Those episodes, especially Melanie’s, are two of the only ones that I wasn’t able to shake off, and I fully credit the voice actors for that. The transcript, the content, that was hard enough but I coulda managed. The scary sound design and screams and everything else, I could manage. The performances the VA’s gave felt way too real. I’m very glad I heard them because they’re impressive, but not to harp on it but ESPECIALLY in Melanie’s case, I plan to stick to the transcript when I get to those episodes this time. Sometimes, a horror radio play is just a little too good at its job, you know?

I'm really bad at distinguishing voices, so this really helped me tell when it was Sasha talking and when it was Not!Sasha. Ugh poor Jon, did a very dumb thing. And poor Sasha, dead for a year and no one realized.
Headcanon that anyone who goes into the Distortion always leaves with fingers a bit longer than when they entered, not enough for real fear, but just enough to cause a lingering sensation of wrong. They leave with smiles too wide or eyes too big, little things that aren't quite enough to be unrecognizable but create that doubt, that thought of 'they didn't always look like that'. That is the Distortion's mark.
I know what Jon did was stupid but honestly, I would have done the same in his position after I realized my friend was killed and replaced by something horrible. I seriously love what you did, the transitions are amazing, especially of Not-Sasha! I love Michael's design so much, it's how I imagined him to look. Michael is our neutral man, we love him very much.

This was sooo good!!! Jon playing the tapes with Sasha’s voice on it nearly made me tear up the scene was So Sad! And you’ve emulated it perfectly with the transitions! I especially love the back and forth showing Not!Sasha’s transformation that was so cool. I also LOVE your Michael laughing I love his gleeful expression!! The yellow door reflecting in Jon’s glasses is also a very cool stylistic detail!! This is amazing 💖

I could pretty much see him choking back tears for those last couple of episodes. I think he was crying in Hide and Seek, either out of manic fear or regret and sadness or maybe both. I knew it was going to be sad. But _man,_ was it sad.
This was amazing! You captured all their expressions so well, the shift from Sasha to Not!Sasha was so well done and you really got the heartbrokenness of Jon across effortlessly, it matched so well with the audio. Michael was so on point and the way Not!Sasha came smashing through? Genuine chills! Brilliant work!

Its really good! It starts of being short horror stories, and gradually becomes a really interesting overarching narrative. Its very well written and voice acted, I cant recommend it enough!
