    I love that you knit ski socks! I’m knitting us all snowboarding socks for our next Japan season. Haven’t heard anyone else talk about it but they’re soooo comfy!

    Sounds like a good idea to make smaller projects like the hats now, and keep the bigger shawls for when the weather turns colder.
    Looking forward to hearing more about the Japan trip. Enjoy your summer holidays!

    The exciting part of your visit yarn purchases. Did the staff in the Yarn shops speak English ? The yarn for a short sleeve dress is amazing and I love the colour. The three 50g balls are just lovely. At the Avril Papin Shop I think the Japanese Sweater pattern and yarn purchases are good. You have so many plans whirling around in your head. I love knitting hats and create my own patterns. I will be knitting a cabled hat soon how soon depends on the weather. It is coming up for the hottest months of the year February and March ❤😊

      Thanks so much Rosemary. There was very little English spoken in most of Japan. We managed to get by with gestures and google translate. ;)

    Love the pinks so much. That mug could hold a ball of yarn as you knit. I also don’t care for the yellow/red/blue combo. Like the mint with pink a lot

      @mostlyknitting  9 місяців тому

      Thanks so much. I hadn’t thought about yarn in the mug but you are right! I would be worried about pulling on the yarn and the mug coming with it and getting smashed on the ground….

    Ty for a wonderful video and looking at #28 it seams that neckline is consistently a wee bit like what you noticed… it’ll be interesting to hear your thought… happy knitting….ty so much for the trip through Avril; so interesting to see a different country’s store for knitting 😃👏🏼🥰

      You are welcome. So glad you enjoyed it. Yes - there is something up with the Sweater #28. That crease line of fabric just isnt what I would want in a sweater so there is something in the rate of increases around that section that is a bit off.

    I loved the look of Art Deko sweater too Tash, especially in the blue/black & gold combo. So I bought some Fiori DK in Amber and Midnight Blue but have decided to design my own yoke design - I often go off on my own tangent with varying degrees of success!😂

    I have the same thing with sleeves, although I knit them with tiny circulars, because I hate magic loop, the tiny circulars are hard on my hands but I still prefer them, I tend to knit visibly tighter (I mean I can see it probably nobody else does, but us knitters...) so I go up a 0,25...I am going to check my needles about the "around 4 mm". Wow I really love that silky grey mohair! I am not allowed to buy any yarn (probably for years to come) because I have a ridiculous stash and am a very slow knitter...loving all the cones, there is something special about yarn on cones, I only have a couple and no place to put them, but they would be lovely out and about.

    Lovely haul from Japan. I didn’t know you are into weaving. I’ve just bought a rigid heddle loom.

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  9 місяців тому

      Thanks Sharon. I don’t do a lot weaving but I really like the look of the fabric. So different from knitted fabric. It is just warping up the loom that prevents me from doing it more often. It actually isn’t that time consuming. Just a mental thing, I think. I hope you enjoy it. :)

    Just love your vidios Tash great to have someone in Aust that I can relate to. So enjoyed your trip to Japan buys. With the Opal Sock wool is therefore anywhere in Aust. Dk is available? You are such an inspiration and with great judgement 💕 and nack of adjusting problems as they appear and knowledge of yarns and patterns. e 😘

      Thank you so much Sandra. I don't think there is an Australian supplier of KFS Opal sock wool. The regular Opal is sold in a number of online Australian stores and a few pop up on a google search, but not the KFS unfortunately. Thanks for your lovely comments. :)

    The dusty rose dk/worsted yarn... could you pair it with the slightly scratchy sparkly thread? Since you don't have a ton of meter-age of either? I think the colors would pair together. Or you could do mitts with the sparkle yarn. I love everything you got!

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  9 місяців тому

      Thanks so much Erica. Thanks for the hat suggestion. That has actually given me an idea which I will mention in the next podcast re where I can use it so it won’t be scratchy against my face. A bit difficult to explain in a comment. :)

      @@mostlyknitting based on the project notes I read, I knit as if I were doing colorwork. I'm neither a tight or loose knitter but I let loose my tension a bit in colorwork, of course. It worked well to get the body not as tight as others mentioned. I also did the smaller cast on and even then I felt it was a bit loose on me. But I have a 21.5 inch circ head. Just a bit smaller than you.

    You mentioned the tax when purchasing the yarn and not having your passport but didn't elaborate. What is the difference? And interested to know how the yarn prices compare with Oz prices. Going there in a few weeks. It was great to hear about the shops and see what you had bought and also the pieces you took.

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  9 місяців тому +1

      Thanks sally. I am going to record my Japan podcast tomorrow so I will definitely mention more fully about having the passport and getting the tax back. You can claim most of the GST back on some purchases that you take out of the country but not all stores participate. Walnut Kyoto does but Avril Pepin doesn’t for example. The prices are actually pretty similar to what I have seen in Australia e.g the Gilliatt yarn was pretty much the same price I would pay at Sunspun. But then if you get most of the tax back, it would be a bit cheaper. Hope that helps in your planning. :)

    Half & half wrap - wondering if you (or other viewers) follow the pattern as is for the short rows. Or if you use an alternative to wrap and turn? I’ve never been successful at getting this to look very nice in my knitting.

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  9 місяців тому

      I have chosen to do the Wrap and Turns as written instead of German Short rows due to the garter stitch. I like how it has turned out in my swatch. I am happy to do a video of how i do the wrap and turn and resolving them in case there is something in my technique that helps. I do prefer German Short Rows for stockinette fabric most often. :)
