    I love this idea. What a great way to get clients to tell themselves the things we, as objective observers, want to tell them. I will definitely be trying this in session!

    2 things.... drop the word “should” from our vocabulary, should and shouldn’ts make you feel guilt and regret... very negative word. All, never ask others for advice, you’re always getting opinions based on their perception of life based on their experiences, beliefs and programming. This therapy is very effective. Thank you 🙏🏻💜

      I believe Albert Ellis would refer to that as "shoulding" one's self.

    And it would be a good idea to not say “ it’s going to be weird”, but instead say suggest a more positive phrase like “ you’re going to enjoy this process”. Would appreciate your feedback. 🙏🏻

    So, in these role-play exercises, what is the therapist's role? Is it that of reflective listener? Empathetic advisor? What exactly does the therapist do with the information gleaned from the empty chair interaction?
