Hey Jordan, Could you please make a Waves Horizon Bundle Vocal Preset Pack!!! I bought it the other week and have been struggling to understand what every effect does. This would help me out heaps. Keep doing you!!! I respect the hustle!!!!!!
Start off with an eq your stock eq is fine..do some surgical eq to get rid of any bad frequency.
Then a de-esser..for sibilance control ..but...DONT MUDDY dull THE VOCAL.
Then another eq to find your overall sound.
Maybe one more eq if needed to fine tune the vocal eq good and bad..
Then use waves vocal rider to smooth out volume control not so it sounds compressed so be gentle..(after automation and gain control on the vocal)
Then use R.Vox. to usually about 5-db.With -2db gain reduction.
Then use h-comp gently. Or cla-2a.
So thats 3 compressors gently on each gradually making each work a little bit rather than one doing all the work..
Then use h-delay for delay on vocals before reverb. Only need output mix to be -4 or less usually unless its a special delay in parts etc.
Make sure analog is off to delete noise not wanted unless you want it.
And bottom two right knows for cutting low and high end on delay.
(Take the bass out) and top end if needed. Play about with it for your own sound and timing of delay.
Then the h- reverb...
Try presets for this that suits your voice..
THIS WAS A VERY SIMPLE VOCAL CHANE THAT WORKS PRETTY WELL ON ANY VOCAL FOR A QUICK SOUND BUT STILL AN OVERALL GREAT VOCAL CHAIN THAT IVE USED ON MANY TRACKS AND WILL STILL USE ;-)

Why did you use mono for some stuff in the mix and stereo for others? Nice work by the way 👌
use mono for things that you want in the center of the stereo field, that is why vocals are almost always in mono. adlibs can be stereo if you want that wide sound to them.

Any reason why pitch correction isn’t put first in the chain? I thought that was the rule with any pitch corrective plug-in?
Pitch correction just needs to be the first effect plugin on the chain. It doesn’t matter if there is an eq , compressor, meters before it. Just things like reverb , delay, etc. need to after it

I cut the lows out of the dubs up to 300-500hz

After seeing your ad on YT a few weeks ago, I downloaded the free 'DIY Vocal Preset' for PT (& Ableton), & just decided yesterday evening that I would give it a try while experimenting with this song that I started writing the day before. Needless to say, although this was my 1st time using this mixing method, I Am pretty impressed with the results from your Awesome mixing preset tool! Now, just to be sure that I wasn't trippin, I sent a snippet of the rough draft mix to my team & they're really feeling it so far!
I would love to send you a copy to get your opinion/constructive criticism, & if it's not too much to ask, maybe some pointers to make it sound as great as possible. 💯
Btw... If other artists, musicians, producers, beginner mixing engineers, etc. have not downloaded a mixing preset from You to help improve the quality of their mixes, then they're sleeping on not only You & what you're contributing to the creative community, but, most importantly on themselves ‼️💯💯💯

yes you want vocals to be mono for the most part, unless you are going for some stereo type of effect

I’m a beginner and thought it wasn’t a good idea to record so high. It appeared that you were close to clipping a couple of times. Is that OK? I thought -6 was a good maximum level. If I go higher it changes the sound of the vocal even if it doesn’t clip.
yes it is okay as long as you are not clipping in the master

yes order does matter! whatever plugin you put first, will be affected by the one that comes after

Hey Deandre! You'll need to make some adjustments in your DAW settings.

good question! this is a big no no, duplicating the exact same vocal take can lead to phase issues in your mix that you do not want. It is always better to record again, as the subtle differences in the vocal takes add a lot more to the vocals overall as well

Hey bro... I got ur presets and was wondering how I can mix and master a bass heavy song without distortion to the vocals and beat I’m using “vocal sauce 2” and plus the mastering chains... I’ve turned the beat down to -5 Dbs and have the vocals not to loud but still am running into this issue.. let me kno!! Thanks bro!!
Hey Mikki! Turn off the mastering chains until you're done mixing. If you're having this issue literally turn down the master until this is no longer happening. Once you use the mastering chain use the limiter and increase/decrease the gain knob until it's hitting -9RMS using the meter below the limiter! :)

Ughh, I'm not sure what the exact issue would be, I suggest reaching out or searching around for some videos that relate. I haven't had that problem, hope you can get it cleared up.
When you’re creating a song, do you do only one track for the lead ? I usually do 4 stacks for the lead (L,R, half left and half right) then I do a 5th track with a chorus effect on it. Honestly I think I’m doing too much lol. I’m an r&b singer so maybe there’s a difference but for the chorus parts I do the same thing for each harmony so there’s usually 12 tracks for the chorus parts. I’m trying to make my process a little simpler and I see in most of your videos there’s only one take for each part. Do you do that just for the video to keep it short? Please help 😭
