2020 Porsche Taycan review | new electric Porsche driven | Autocar

  • The new Porsche Taycan is Porsche's first all-electric vehicle. It comes in Turbo or Turbo S forms, although, kinda obviously, neither has a turbocharger. Turbo is a sub-brand that means a Porsche is chuffing fast: and the Taycan, especially in Turbo S form like we've tested it here, is chuffing fast. On overboost the Taycan makes 751bhp and hits 60mph from rest in 2.6 seconds.
    It's an expensive sedan, at nearly £140,000 in Turbo S form. And that can make it a slightly different proposition to other electric cars, like the Tesla Model S, let alone the Jaguar I-Pace or Audi E-Tron, but as Matt Prior's review discovers, not only is the Taycan incredibly fast, it's quite possibly the best electric car in the world.

      @@don_fren You are an idiot, buddy!!! "...to the point it's an insult for the Model S to compare it to a Taycan". Wow, what kind of fucking douchebag are you???
      At first, "design" or "styling" is just very subjective, and just "lies in the eye of the beholder"... And I'm absolutely sure, that 90% of all premium customers for EVs like the Porsche Taycan design in interior and also exterior way more than a cheap looking Tesla Model S! Especially its interior is just pure crap compared to the clean and also minimalistic looking Porsche Taycan! Did you recognise all the displays on the Taycan dashboard? You like a fugly huge and vertically arranged display in the middle of a dashboard more than sporty looking horizontally displays which are highlighting the width of a car? Congratulations to you.... LOL!
      You know certainly absolutely nothing about Porsches premium build quality of every model they are making, if you prefer "Tesla design" over the design coming from a quality car maker!
      Tesla vehicles have the most embarrassing bullshit build quality you can find in the whole car industry, and therefore they simply aren't worth their money!
      You really have no fucking clue what a different it makes, sitting in such a perfectly built and assembled Porsche Taycan, compared to such a shitty built American wannabe "premium EV"!
      Teslas are more or less only "powerfull electric motors on wheels"... but nothing more! These cars are full with rattling details in its interiors, they are shaking, they are noisy unside... Teslas "quality management" is the absolutely worst of all premium car makers!
      The only truth is, that "the new Porsche Taycan ashames Teslas build quality to the point that's an insult for Porsche to compare a Taycan with a fucking shitty Tesla Model S"...
      You fucking douchebag clown just go back to sleep..., idiot!

    Automotive journalists now have to add EV terminology and knowledge to their repertoire. And reviewing an EV should be different from a gas powered vehicle review. For example is the Taycan constantly monitoring the battery power level with the locations of nearby EV charging stations and warn the driver if he or she is taking a route that could leave them stranded w/o power ( I assume so). Also a big advantage of EV's is all the additional storage space that is available, would be nice to have seen that in the video. What is scheduled maintenance like?

      @TagmakersCoUk 4 роки тому +2

      @Robert Blackford Have you ever run your own business? I don't think so... I have been running my own business for 31 years, so can speak with some authority on finances. When a business needs lots of capital investment (and a car company uses TONS of capital - even Porsche, who just invested 6bn Euro in their new car), that capital comes out of investment, loans and operating profit. It can take years for companies to get to bottom-line profitability - but this is not the key metric... The really important factors are cash-flow and free-cash-flow. These - coupled with a solid product proposition are what gives lenders and investors confidence - and Tesla is unquestionably a company with a very solid product proposition, and (currently) sustainable cash-flows - particularly from operations. Intelligent investors are usually in for the long term. Greedy ones (and competitive interests) do their best to damage this - usually with FUD.
      Any company can go bust, and Tesla is no exception, but the markers for success are there - if you know what to look for. You don't seem to know what to look for in Tesla, but if you did, you would - like us intelligent investors (and business owners) - see that it has a bright and solid future.

      These old-fashioned reviewers don't understand what matters these days. None of the "features" of this Tin-Can are ground-breaking or innovative. All Poorschit have done is swop out a petrol engine for an electric motor. So it's "just a car"... Sure, it's quite attractive, and well-built - but we kinda expect that from Poorschit, don't we?
      Nothing new here, nothing worth really talking about - this is "just a car" - and so what?

      @@Gandalf721 I owned a Porsche many years ago (a 1975 914) and loved it. Wasn't one of their more iconic cars - but a very well-made, fun-to-drive, car.
      The only reason they made the Taycan is because Tesla has forced them to do it. This car uses DIFFERENT electrics - but nothing INNOVATIVE. To simply compete with Tesla performance, they had to put in a 2-speed gear system - adding complication and cost. The Taycan lacks almost all the computer and software innovations invented by Tesla, and which VAG has admitted is years ahead of them. The Taycan is therefore "just a car", and this is where it fails. True... it is solidly built and performs impressively - but where it really counts it is no match for Tesla. Sad... but true.

To date, my business turns over around £1 million to £1.2 million annually, with a net profit in excess of 35% - to me, the major shareholder, so I don't give a crap about the videos.
      2. Porsche has not applied any INNOVATIVE, or ground-breaking technology into their Taycan. They have made IMPROVEMENTS to existing technology is a small way, but nothing NEW. This is despite the fact that it took them 5 years and 6bn Euro to get this far.
      However... it is a well-built, attractive car, that befits the Porsche brand - but it is "just a car".
      The executives in the VAG group (those that are not earmarked for a possible prison sentence) have admitted on several occasions that Tesla is way ahead of the VAG group - particularly in electronics, drivetrain and computer (hardware and software). This is a fact - not "fanboy" nonsense. I am far too old to be a "fanboy" (approaching 70). Besides... I do not want, like or need a Tesla. (I am chauffeur driven in a S-Class Mercedes).
      Lovers of Porsche (I owned a 914 back in 1975, and sold it 14 years later) cannot stomach the fact that a cheeky upstart like Tesla produces better cars - but it's a fact... Tesla makes better cars. Live with it...

    I know electric cars are heavy, very fast, quiet, 200-300 miles range and quick to charge now but what is the life span of the batteries? Do the batteries degrade after so many years?

    • @MovieBroadcast
      @MovieBroadcast 4 роки тому +2

      Yes, batteries degrade with time. But not as much as one might think. Also keep in mind that they improve very fast as billions are being invested in R&D. To answer your question, the Taycan will probably lose less than 15% of the battery capacity after 10 years or 100,000 miles with heavy fast charging. Porsche has a liquid cooling system and so the battery should last at least 300,000 miles or 20 years. Tesla has recently patented a new battery that should last 1,000,000 miles or 1,600,000 km. So battery technology is getting better very fast.

    I’m curious how the air conditioning and heating systems work. I imagine the air conditioning uses an electrically driven compressor but does the heating use an electrical heating coil of some sort or fluid from the liquid cooling system for the batteries? It’s something I haven’t heard anything about but without a combustion engine it requires a different approach to achieve.

    • @luiscaetano764

      Air conditioning can either cool or heat. Basically the cycle inverts when you switch between these modes (condenser bacomes evaporator and vice versa) with an eletric/thermal efficiency of at least 300%. Plus don't forget that some heat can be extracted from the batteries specially after high power demands or during charging.
