A non serated flash2 has been my edc for a long time now. Great knife. I always carry some sort of traditional slipjoint too though.

Picked up a flash 2 back in 11 at Lowe's for around $60. Been using it EDC ever since. I have a Kershaw I carry at work but for street I do like the SOG. Lightning fast. Sorry to hear it's been discontinued.

Still have mine, I have the aluminum handle, went for 80 bucks when I bought it. Years ago I was cutting a nylon strap which the serrations were perfect for and dropped it on the floor, even as I shouted for the moron on the forklift to stop he kept going and ran directly over it, zero problems with it other than a few marks on the knurled texture. Its the toughest pocket knife I have ever owned so if there are better knives out there they will probably last forever.

Seems like you forgot to mention the main unique feature of this knife. There’s a lock for the closed position on the handle. Great for climbing

Perhaps the previous owner grew tired of the serrated edge.

    Well, it's a tactical knife.

I'm...if it's anyone's first choice.... But, it does grow on you. Sad to here it's discontinued.... Idk if it's the deep pocket clip, or how lite it is, or the lock, or...the fact that it cost 40 bucks....

I love the SOG flash-2 design but the execution sucks imo.
That stupid non ambidextrous "piston lock" always has lots of blade play and operation is awkward and the button is sharp cornered and just dumb.
I dont care for assisted openers but the flash-2 is one of just a few that i actually like.
I love the ergonomics of the handle but its cheesy construction is just unacceptable.
I wish SOG would bring it back in updated form.
Thick strong and solid G-10 handle frame housing a steel "cartridge" style liner for the new XR lock would be my preferred construction.
Along with an upgraded blade steel of CTS-XHP, S30V, 154-CM or 14C28N would be my choice.
Ditch the serrations but keep the full flat grind and perhaps broaden the blade by 2 to 3 millimeters.
Id prefer non assisted but i wouldnt mind if assisted so long as it doesnt have either the goofy rear mounted secondary safety lock of the original or the goofier lock of the new Aegis.
SOG if youre listening, get on that asap and id like mine in OD green G-10 and black DLC blade.
Thanks. And oh yeah, dont expect me to pay more than $120 for the 154-CM version or $150 for the XHP. Thank you!

The blade play from the lock is atrocious and the frame screws thread into the plastic

      @@unclejoe6811- yeah it's just deplorable.
Great design, piss poor engineering and execution.
