Your reviews are quality. Dunno if these companies are paying you but they should be!!! I'm also blown away by your playing - honestly an absolute pleasure to listen to. Keep up the good work man!
Thanks for this review buddy. I didn't think there could be 26 minutes of review in a small amp like this, but you nailed it. Great playing too, especially the different styles to show the very varied settings. Top job (and i know it was years ago, but hey, I just decided I wanted one now!) :)
I could listen to you play all day !! I just got the fly with the extension speaker and the wall plug. This thing is great ! I love your clean tone setting, thanks for that one !!
First, Dave, you are an amazing guitarist. Second, this is an incredible practice amp. Third, this was a great review. Now I have my chopbox. All I need now is the chops.
Hahah, I just bought one with the extension cab from the local pawn for CAD 50. The neighbors threatened to call the cops as I was playing while bbq'ing cuz they have a day care & they're more important than me. Batteries for gawds sake! I love the tone. Blackstar rules.
Agree. I appreciate Dave's common touch unpretentious approach to everything he presents. If lengthy, they are comprehensive. Consistently detailed and pragmatically hands on so as to be refreshingly anything but lowest common denominator popularity or limited attention span targeted. Two thumbs up mate.
I really like that you did this with your camera mike, simply because the other vids I've seen have the microphone right up to the speaker. Your demo gives me a good idea of what the actual volume is like . . . great review! Thanks!
I had the same feeling with mine. Still putting it through it's paces, but it is perfect for my cheap thin walled apartment. Especially those late night "something pops in your head and you have to play" moments. I actually ran my lil' pocket pod through it yesterday and the results were not to shabby.
I've got this amp with the extension speaker and I love it ! It. Also takes drive pedals incredibly well on both channels ! The drive channel is too bright on any ISF setting so I'd like a presence knob in addition. However adjusting the tone on the Strats neck and bridge pickup makes it easy for me to find the sweet spot. Also I'd like a little more gain on the drive channel but at this price I guess you can't have everything :) All in all this amp is a massive bang for the buck!
This thing gives me confidence in small amps as a person that doesn't stay at home for most of the year. I'm surprised at this small beast, beastly tones
@@garyives1218 Agreed, they should include a power cable - seems very mean not to! I have lots of battery operated things that also came with a power cable included. No excuse, it's just a money grab!
I live in a duplex and I play at night while my kids are asleep as well. I am going to use this to record the sound for some videos. Put it right next to the camera mic and voila!
I just added you to my list of best of go-to guitar teachers on the WWW, along with Michael Casswell (may you rest in peace, my brother), Guido Bungenstock,TimPierce, Jeff McErlaine, and the "Shut Up and Play" man; in no particular order....all are master guitarists, as you are as well! Cheers mate!!!!
Yeah the amp demo was good, really covered all the features and the feel BUT your fluidity on guitar, now THAT is impressive. RocknRoll just seems to flow from your fingers. Loved it.
I have a tele with an alnico 3 bridge. I got this Fly 3 today after watching your review. Wow. The clean tone with delay is amazing on this thing. All I wanted to do was make my electric at an acoustic level. I also messed around with the OD setting. Not a fan of hot, blistering distortion like you either; but, I found with the gain low, tone dark, volume high, and guitar knobs rolled off a bit, it sounds awesome, a lot like Interstellar Overdrive, Syd Barrett style. Maybe it's just my tele. It's still a little hot, but there's so much of that vintage hollow crunch that I might end up liking it more than the clean setting.
I've seen several reviews on this amp,but I believe your playability really shows it's capabilities. You dig in and don't let up,very appreciative. Good video.

Yes!! I am a fairly new subsciber. Dave seems to have tasty rock chops just trying to get out of his fingers, at a moments notice lol. He's making have to order this lil amp, for my vacation trip.
I just ordered the Union Jack edition of this amp after trying the Fly vs the Vox Mini 3. I wanted a simple, no brainer practice amp without having to program and save a ton of settings. I didn't like the sound of the Mini for a Vox product and loved the Fly. I sat on the floor of the guitar shop for a half hour playing it and smiled the entire time. It was a blast to play through and sounded far better than my other practice amps.
I just bought one of these with the extension cabinet. $70 if you can tolerate the cream color. Guitar Center. I also ordered a Honeytone N-10 just to have around because it's just so portable.
Dave's demos are excellent. No wasted talk. I think he's got the Tex Mex pickups going here. He gets the essential recording sound going here--full sound and low volume.
Thanks for this review. I was eyeing off the Marshall MS-4 for bedroom use, but this has convinced my to get the Blackstar instead. The delay is a real selling point.
Normally find it difficult to get through to the end of most demos....but no problem here.......Cool way of showing your guitar wizardry through an amp demo...which kept me with it......Top Geezer...And Extremely Entertaining Playing.... To Say The Least...Great Job.
Good little portable, might get one for me motorhome. Dave a question, sitting you obviously play a lot closer but when you stand you play very low slung. I was told when playing standing should be the same position as when sitting, ive tried it low slung but not as low as you as my straps wont go that low, i guess you can because you hold the neck quite high, so what IS the correct position when standing?
I notice with my les paul i like to run my amp alot brighter then i normally would then i back the volume back halfway and it warms up alot. I never use to do this with my guitars but now i see how usable it is and how much i like using this technique. I notice you said the ISF was way to bright all the way on 0 but it might not be to bad with the volume rolled down about halfway.
I subscribed a while back because I love your videos and your approach to making them and now I've just watched this and seen that Hornby beside your Computer! I love Hornby!!!
@@thedavesimpson and what if you compare fender 10g and micro crush and marshal ms2 ? Sorry might be irritating, i just got a squirr bullet after looking at your video , now looking for an amp.

Great review, thank you. In fact this amp tries to emulate a marshall plexi. It is on the bright side but as you know there is no way to brighten a sound from the guitar, you can only darken it, so I think Blackstar has it right on there! Page would love it ;-)
Interesting amp, you seem to be running it on batteries?, you mentioned something about mains power, does it have a specific cable to run off mains? (why did'nt you run it off mains?

hi dave. chops are brill as usual and humbling to see that you too make mistakes when playing. don't think i have seen you this enthusiastic about an amp. you have sold me on it. hope its not your guitars and fingers that make it sound good because you could probably make a piece of 6x2 with strings nailed to it sound good lol. questions !. this over a THR 5 or 10. What is your fav practice amp. fav strings and picks. love watching your demo's , wish you lived next door lol. your messin about is what i aspire to.
Thank you very much indeed. I can't answer the amp one as i haven't tried the THR's but the fly is awesome. Trt both if you can and see which one you prefer. I use D'Addario strings. 10s and 9's. Love them. I use 50mm and 60 mm picks. :)

Hi do you like this amp better than the orange amp, the video where you compared it with the fender and marshall? Blackstar or Orange? Thanks
I do prefer this to the orange but i have recently got the boss katana mini and thats better than al of them in my opinion.: )
Would this be a good amp for street busking with an electric? If I got the 6 watt combo would it be loud enough?
I wouldn't say so. Its loud but not loud enough for busking. :)
warguy403 it's loud enough for a living room but as soon as you get outside the sound dissapears quickly (just like any small speaker outside)
warguy403 just my opinion.Ive busked with a Roland mobile cube and a zoom g1on pedal and it’s plenty loud outside. That might be a good option.
3 inch speaker Dave not 6, otherwise it would be sticking out the top of the cabinet, that wouldn't be good.
