hey thanks, ya the room is soundproofed as well. I can jam late at night and not disturb the family. if you're interested check it out: ua-cam.com/video/AOIAPBA2pT8/v-deo.html
So did Blackstar just look at the little toy/novelty amps from Fender and Marshall at the same price point and decide to just embarrass them or what?!? Instead of a toy, it seems Blackstar decided to make a real amp, just tiny. It even takes pedals well... because of course it does. Clearly its a real, viable, guitar amp, in miniature. An effects loop for time effects would be nice I suppose, but for ffs, its a $60 battery amp!
I'm the kind who would add pedals to a little practice amp. Some effects I want to play with at 2am are just not built into those practice amps, like wah pedal, over drive, distortion and a looper. Who says you shouldn't have all the fun stuff when you're noodling late at night. It helps a lot to hear how that little bugger sounds with pedals. Thanks for the demo! 😃
To all potential buyers: The Fly3 is an amazing little amp. I'm mostly playing through a full blackstar stack, but oh boy for use at home? The Fly is brilliant! The only pedal it can't take as well is a delay pedal with rich feedback. It gets a bit "mushy". So if you're not an Ozric Tentacles or Porcupine Tree member, you will love it.
i love that little amp, i don't gig or anything so i got it to almost replace the 20w amp i have and it's great for just bedroom practising and i'm sure it would also be great for busking, i don't actually have any pedals because i normally play acoustic guitar but i'm gonna start a board after i buy a new guitar pretty soon and now that i've seen this video i will buy some!
Thanks man! Here we are, in the pandemia... Were I am staying I have my Fender Telecaster and a blackstar fly 3 and in a few days I will get my pedals from home.. so I wanted to know if that could be suitable without damaging the amp, I founded the video very helpful and liked the intro too. Greetings from Argentina!
Saludos
If I want a bit of late night practice without disturbing anyone, I've found it works fine with a Proco Rat and a Marshall Echohead. The volume is easy to control and it can still give a good sound at a fairly low volume. I do like the sound of that Boss echo you've got there though!
WOW that is awesome, i came across wondering if pedel will work, and the intro just took my breath away very awesome! thanks for making this and sweet ass studio too btw XD
To me, the better "travel" system would be an Ipad with Tonestack, iRig Pro, headphones. You can get any sound out that system. It's compact and great sounding. As for the Fly 3, I can only imagine using this for the beach or next to the pool for immediate gratification plug and play--but in that case I'd rather use the Yamaha THR10 (best practice amp in existence).
cool idea, I'm just not a fan of playing over headphones. I think the price is more appealing for the Fly3 ($59 USD), but I've heard great things about the Yamaha mini amps too. Would like to try one out in the future. :)
Not a headphone guy myself but I am a fan of using the iRig with the Fly as I am on the road quite a bit. It is a great substitute for not being a home and playing through my Blackstar ID30. It sounds as good tonally but the pick dynamics are not there using the iRig. As to the Yamaha. It is a great amp but chose a Roland Cube Lite over the Yamaha because of using by the pool. The Roland has a subwoofer that adds to the richness of the base tone over the Yamaha and makes a better music speaker. The Cube Lite is what I use with the iRig at the office. Sidenote: It is a toss up between the Fly w/extension and Cube Lite since they are about the same size and weight. The Fly can be used with batteries the Cube Lite is a better music speaker.
Hello friend, I speak here from Brazil. is this mini amp really worth using with pedals? does the tone of the pedals remain beautiful? I'm looking for a solution to use my pedalboard, since at home you can't use a bigger amplifier.
@@landonbailey oh yes, thank you very much. sometimes on youtube you can’t get a real sense of the quality of this mini amp, but from your opinion it looks really good.
Hello Lando! I just got myself a Tremolo pedal... and for some reason when I put it between the guitar and the BS Fly the signal disappears. I mean, the guitar doesn't seem to be getting the signal. The pedal I have is a Joyo Tremolo. Any ideas why this happens? Thank you!
i have fly3 but i only practice using headphone. do i need a bigger amp for better sounds or the sounds are the same with headphones? i plan to use pedals.
Pretty good sound from such a small piece of kit. I have a Yamaha THR10 as my smallest amp but I've never tried it with pedals, funnily enough. I'll have to remedy that sometime. I'd suggest maybe changing the order of your pedals to Tuner --> Wah --> Drive --> Chorus --> Echo --> Reverb (I know you didn't use a reverb in this video). Echo into drive can sound too mushy but placed after drive should make the repeats a lot clearer.
+d2vmusic lol, I should know better than that! I daisy chained them together and didnt give it a second thought. I used to run a full pedal board anf split dirt and spacey stuff with my Boss line selector. Thanks for the tip and reminder. 👍
+lando27music You can't beat the Boss line selector for the price - it's a almost a cliché to say but it really is a Swiss Army knife for pedal boards and simple switching. By the way, thanks again for your suggestion for my palm router - I'm going to go with the Bosch GFK600 and will pick it up this coming Friday. Hide the guitars! :)
Fast forward two months and I've finally used my router today! Some surgery required on a Gibson-Baldwin LP control cavity and the router made short work of levelling my infill repair. Guitar only cost me £15 but it's going to be a decent instrument by the time I've finished. Thanks again :)
gg dude I don't know about you but when I plug pedals thru the front I plug the time based pedals AFTER the ods and wahs😂 bet it would sound killer that way, but anyways, it is still a nice mini amp, nice vid anyways 😉👌👍
Nice video man! I've heard this amp is very good, but does it work well with Behringer Vintage Time Machine? I can't find anyone trying this out on either youtube or online, thanks.
This one is more of a vintage pedal, hopefully I'll get to try it out in the future, I'm planning to learn guitar from scratch, since I've learned it once at about 7 and a half year ago, but it was messed up and didn't go well, thank god I wasn't dumb enough to sell my guitar, but the amp does sound weird, there's one time I was playing music through it, and the tone was off, not sure if it's dirty or faulty, I'm going to clean it and find out the answer, this time I will master my electric guitar and not let it lay dying, this is going to be awesome.
actually, let me double check again. I'm going to attach a stereo pedal (Boss-Te2) and see if it's true Stereo. I don't believe I was testing it that way in the video. I'll get back to you
so i tried a couple stereo pedals, and it appears the same sound is coming out both speakers at the same time. Both were delay type pedals, so I was hoping to hear the sound bouncing between each speaker. but no.
The guitar input is mono for guitar and the aux input is stereo for backing tracks. If you get an adapter to run the two outputs of your stereo pedal into a 1/8 inch stereo jack plug (headphone type) and plug it into the aux input you should get stereo effects. If you need to do that and hear backing tracks and you haven't got the bluetooth version, then you'll need a small stereo mixer or run the backing tracks mono through the guitar input.

What?... If it can produce an acceptable clean sound, how could it NOT take pedals, Zippy? Since it's plainly designed to do as much while putting out an electrical signal with a voltage and amperage that common pedals can use, if you understand what that means, then the entire video is completely unnecessary. Frustrated chumps who don't understand basic electricity and simple electronics make the staff at Guitar Center drool because they can be sold a whole new amp when all they need is something simple costing a tenth the price. All you are showing is how good an audio signal you have coming out of two highly efficient 3" speakers designed to handle a large slice of the audio spectrum. The Fly3 is 100x better than this video shows. If you get a muddy sound then you’re doing something wrong.
